Self never fails

Poor Bryce Thompson!

Pathetic NCAA

He can be this years version of Adam Flagler of Baylor. Last year he was a big weapon for them off the bench.

Let's guess this will conveniently happen after KU gets punished

Jalen • Nov 02, 2021 09:43 PM

3 games will not disrupt that much. Good lesson for Jalen and I hope he comes back stronger and mentally ready to go

JCL • Nov 02, 2021 08:16 PM

Sounds about right for how seasons go

Jalen • Nov 02, 2021 01:54 PM

@AsadZ

Yeah that could be the benchmark. The penalty for DUI though across College Sports seems to be a lot less now then it used to be. Mark Few is a good example. I would expect a multi-game punishment for sure here

Silence of the flock • Nov 01, 2021 05:05 PM

If you are to buy the streaming services all on your own, its definitely expensive. Fortunate for me we pay for Prime/Disney and get Netflix/Paramount/Peacock for free sharing. If all these platforms crack down on sharing they will lose even more back to cable

Jalen • Nov 01, 2021 04:59 PM

@Kcmatt7

Yeah I would think Mitch is only in line to play at the 5 but who knows with this untimely situation. I see Braun sliding into that spot in the meantime, play the freshman based on matchup. Self has plenty of perimeter depth to use Braun at the 4. He rebounds well but defensively it will be a nigthmare.

Jalen • Nov 01, 2021 01:03 PM

Certainly this is concerning because he'll definitely miss some time, Self doesn't let this stuff slide easily. The 4 spot was already a bit of a mess after Jalen so we'll see. Assume Braun will get action there with his rebounding skills and ability to stretch to the 3 pt line. Guess we are going to dip right into that supposed depth right off the bat..

Jalen • Oct 31, 2021 11:19 PM

Yikes. At least it's now and not March. Still stupid

@BeddieKU23 Seems to be a recent trend. Maybe we see more of it because of the way the transfer market changed things. Used to be guys that weren't top guys could try to wait it out for a better school as people got more desperate in the spring. That isn't going to happen now with immediately eligible transfers across the board.

Yep, Covid, being able to take visits earlier + the portal definitely puts a premium for a lot of these guys to lock up a spot. It was interesting to see just how many kids have already decided. Not going to complain as a fan, it's nice to know KU got some guys that your not waiting 5 months from now to try and land..

2022 Recruiting Thread • Oct 29, 2021 10:18 AM

Crazy, only 18 of the Top 100 remains uncommitted at this point.

Baylor lost Langston Love for the yr due to ACL. Was a fan of this one and he would have been a terror playing against. Huge blow for Baylor

Silence of the flock • Oct 25, 2021 02:49 PM

@drgnslayr

Definitely will be interesting to see how the game trends with the new portal rules. The revolving door may not be as difficult if the majority of the kids you get in are experienced. I would think the transition for kids familiar with P5 D1 coaching, practice etc would make it easier for them to pick things up in a new system. I think it will be something to watch with all KU's transfers early.

I believe the Big-12 for example has upwards of 50 new transfer players for this year because of the new rules. Half the league added 6 or more transfers in one year. Completely new teams really. The Big-12 will be interesting to watch to see what happens.

Holy Crap that Chief defense sucks • Oct 25, 2021 02:35 PM

Mahomes hasn't looked himself lately. However he isn't alone, lots of turnovers on offense haven't helped. The interceptions Pat is throwing lately are concerning. The result was shocking to see from a score prospective but the Titans came in with a guy running the ball at perhaps the highest level he's been at yet and the Chiefs D has struggled all year to stop the run. If Henry isn't in the convo for MVP at this stage of the season I don't know who is because he's been completely dominant.

That would be a perfect NIL. Where are they based? Just checked, according to google it is Pennsylvania, too bad...

Definitely, they are all over the northeast where I'm from.

Silence of the flock • Oct 25, 2021 10:28 AM

At least the backcourt should be solid enough in 22. Harris/Yesufu/Pettiford/Cuffe in the 1-2 spots with Braun/Dick/Rice/Adams for the wing/forward spots. I wouldn't be surprised if Self was on the hunt for a high scoring guard transfer in the spring.

The real intrigue will be in the post. Clemence/Adams/Udeh/Ejiofer. Again I can see Self looking for a veteran to help these young guys along.

Dicksportinggoods?

Silence of the flock • Oct 25, 2021 10:09 AM

@drgnslayr

Yeah redshirting is no longer something coaches have leverage over a player to stick around and develop with the one-time transfer rule the way it is. Before a redshirt kind of locked them in because if they transferred after a redshirt year they still had another sit-out year in most cases wherever they went. Now redshirting doesn't really bind a player to KU. No idea how you massage a situation like that anymore.

Hopefully the 4 freshman have patience because after this year every one of them has a chance at PT in 22. KU is going to be extremely inexperienced and young the way the roster is shaping up. Braun, Yesufu & Harris the only locks to come back that will be in the rotation. Perhaps KU can make Jalen stick another year but we're hearing the opposite. If the freshman return & all 4 incoming recruits make it to campus Self has 2 open spots to fill in the spring (assuming Wilson goes pro). Can imagine he'll be hitting the portal for an experienced wing & big to balance out all that youth.

This year is kind of a catch 22 situation. The roster is so deep none of the freshman may play outside mop up minutes. But next year those same kids will be in the starting lineup/rotation with very little experience which isn't ideal either. Usually those freshman have a better chance at PT their first year which accelerates the development curve for them. I see 22/23 as a real transition/rebuild year.

They will play Tulsa in a closed scrimmage on the 30th in Tulsa

2022 Recruiting Thread • Oct 21, 2021 03:53 PM

@BShark

From unranked to Top 30 in 6 months says a lot about his development. Seems like his offense is starting to take off to round out his other skills. Sounds like he's got a jump hook but will need to develop more post moves. He's coming to the right place to maximize that

@KirkIsMyHinrich said in 2022 Recruiting Thread:

You love to see it. How does Udeh project as a defender? Is he a shot-blocking type player?

He projects well as a defender. Scouting reports on him note his rebounding/shot blocking are currently his best attributes. Jr year averaged just under 10 boards and 2 blocks a game. Saw a few articles he's not only a good weak side rim protector but he'll let offensive players get into him without fouling then wait and time blocking shots so definitely sounds like he has some skill there. I'd love to know his official wingspan cause he appears to have a 7'2 or higher. I've seen it mentioned he has a 7'2. Love his upside

2022 Recruiting Thread • Oct 21, 2021 12:48 PM

@Oldmanhawk

I couldn't find a good comp for Udeh from past KU post players. Some of the things he does well now remind me of Doke (dunks, defense). The long wingspan as well. Jerry Meyer said he reminded him of Thomas Bryant (Former Indiana Hoosier, current NBA player)

Silence of the flock • Oct 21, 2021 12:36 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Maybe it was the hair but he did look a little more sleek in build. Got up nice on a few dunks . Guy has transformed his body and probably is about as maxed out athletically as he'll be here. If he can play 25-27 minutes a night we'll know that he made big strides in his last year

@Marco

Coach mentioned that Braun & Harris were the most improved players from the offseason. Probably not a stretch because both needed to improve signficantly

2021 Recruiting • Oct 21, 2021 12:33 PM

@Woodrow

Knowing our luck a player will get a Dodge Charger, crash it, lie about it, have his family lie about it then and have a 3 year investigation started.

KU preaseason AP#3 • Oct 21, 2021 11:13 AM

Interesting looking back at our bench last year. 1,555 minutes from the collection of Harris, Mitch, TGF, Bryce, Enaruna. They scored 393 points total combined. Yesufu & Coleman-Lands last year scored 726 points combined and they are expected to be have big roles off the bench. Yesufu alone scored more points then the 5 Hawks did. The bench should produce a lot more this year.

@BShark

I like both of them a lot. They both fit what Self wants. Both are athletic and can punish the rim.

2022 Recruiting Thread • Oct 20, 2021 11:27 PM

He's got to have a 7'2 or more wingspan. Evident when he gets up there for dunks that he's got some reach to him. More natural athlete at the basket then McCormack. The lob, rebounding, rim protection and ability to dunk are things that will translate for him. With development on his footwork and refining his skills in the post he's going to be a Bill Self favorite if he sticks around

2022 Recruiting Thread • Oct 20, 2021 03:12 PM

@BShark

I have to say I'm impressed (as long as he commits) that we landed him. Month ago I definitely thought the Portal was the only option for another big the way things were trending. Good to see this class with for now possibly 4 Top 100 kids.

Yep and there's rumors the league will be split into divisions. At least that's what the BYU guy is saying. Imagine back to back road games against UCF and BYU. Just doesn't sound right at all.

@BeddieKU23 You know I was thinking about him and thought, naw, shouldn't waste time looking him up. I'd love to see him do well. Thanks for the add!

Wayne making a roster popped up on my Facebook from a Jayhawk group I follow. I had no idea he was with the Knicks tbh but good to see him still trying to make it in the NBA. I had kind of thought after his last go-round that he might have to go elsewhere to play.

Still disappointing that Frank hasn't found a good home. That injury in Orlando last year was the epitome of bad timing/bad luck. I know guards his size have a low % of getting stability in the league but having seen how dominant he was at times in the G-League I still want to see him be successful. Devonte got his chance and capitalized and it seems like Frank is still chasing that same chance

KU preaseason AP#3 • Oct 20, 2021 10:14 AM

@drgnslayr

Love the optimism and I'll raise it a different way. We got 3 dudes (Remy, Ochai, Dave in the Top Tier nationally at their position. Those 3 should go toe-to-toe with any matchup. No reason that trio shouldn't get 40+ a night. They are not perfect but there's no question we should feel some confidence having that kind of firepower and experience at those positions. That should in theory allow Wilson/Braun/Harris/Yesufu/Coleman-Lands to fill in certain roles around them. We'll see how it all fits but on paper it sure looks optimistic.
