Most Improved player this year? • Jan 15, 2018 11:53 AM

I'll start. Easy answer would be Doke. He's exceeded my expectations so it was tough to pick against him.

Devonte Graham is the most improved Hawk in my mind.

Why? Having to play 36 minutes a game with no backup is not easy. The pressure is on him, he knows it. We are a discombobulated bunch without him on the court. His numbers are up across the board, his scoring production is starting to creep up towards 20 a game, well above that in conference play so far. That's rare company at KU. His PER, 24, is excellent for the burden he has to carry every game. Lately he's been more aggressive getting in the lane averaging 9 FT attempts per game in conference play. This team will go as far as Devonte can take them.

Who ya guys got? Why

Interesting article. I think the proposal (immediate transfer with a certain GPA) is too lax if that's the bar they are setting. A 2.7 or 2.8, that's not setting the bar high at all for kids academically. I'd like to know how many kids are falling above or below this proposed requirement.

I'm actually surprised the NCAA is thinking of opening this can of worms honestly. They look at record transfer numbers as a problem that needs to be fixed. I don't think giving players the ability to transfer immediately fixes the issue. I don't think the NCAA is prepared to deal with the potential issues this could create. Who's going to oversea tampering? Can players transfer mid-season and play at other schools the same season?

Moses just wants to be recruited. For a Top 20ish type player not a lot of teams seem to be that interested in dealing with him. Kid would be good in College if he stuck around for a while and developed which I doubt he'll do

Izzo: RUH-ROH • Jan 14, 2018 01:46 PM

I think highly of izzo.

His team this year is coasting right now. Remember it's all soph and freshman doing the heavy lifting. They have a few upperclassmen that play but they don't decide outcomes of games for them. Point being they are very young, really talented and as always izzo will find a way to get them going again. It is nice to know that a team projected to be one of the title favorites is vulnerable. I actually think KU matches up well vs MSU if they meet in March. This isn't the typical izzo tough squad, it's got guys who are thinking next level

I personally love coach Izzo. Humble, high character, great guy. I think everyone would feel comfortable sending their son to play for him.

Agreed!

Anyone see the drama with tech court storming. A fan got too close to a wv player and the player threw a punch. I believe it was Wesley Harris who threw it from the video I just saw on espn. Can imagine he will be disciplined...after Monday though

@cragarhawk

Wait til monday. That should bring a few it's the refs fault

Bruce blames the refs for losing

Bruce will have a book of excuses by the end of his career. K st couldn't ever do better then this dip

Silvio • Jan 13, 2018 04:04 PM

This has potential huge implications on rotations, minutes, rebounding

I don't even dare bother with football recruiting. Most of the time those players won't even see the field for 1-2 years.

Bite your tongue, sometime in the future (could be a liftetime)KU football hires a great coach and gets in the running for a 5 star player. You'll totally be in it!

KU hiring a great coach might not happen before football becomes irrelevant due to lack of player interest due to CTE.

Burnnnn

I feel like we are waiting for a crappy internet link only to listen to a coach talk about his JV team for 45 minutes when its supposed to be a commitment announcement (its totally happened recently) @BShark @Jayballer54 I know you guys now this one!

That was truly awful. Perhaps the worst commit announcement I've watched and most are pretty bad.

The only one that's ever topped that was a 5 star Safety choose FSU recently and took 3 1/2 hours. His entire team went before him (with no prior knowledge anyone else was announcing) and they delayed it 3 times because of a missing microphone

I wasn't sure where to put this but so many midseason transfers now. More than I can remember. Blake Harris has left Missouri for NC State.

I was going to get around to posting that. Still think he would have been nice to have backing up Devonte this season. However having Dotson and Grimes next season more then makes up for it

Harris, unlike Moore would potentially impact recruiting. And really I don't think our guards are an issue at all, though Newman has been mostly disappointing relative to what was expected, fair or not.

I agree Harris could have impacted recruiting. Whatever the case Self whiffed hard on evaluating who'd be a point guard on this team with Graham. With his comments recently about Newman he almost sounds stunned how bad he's played after all that he flashed to the staff in his off-year. Whatever the case we will find out whether Newman is a new man or not real soon

@BeddieKU23 Thats what I meant by all parties. The money is too good for coaches. There is always another program willing to take a player. It is just a nightmare.

Yes the money part is actually the problem.

I just couldn't imagine being a coach in today's game. Not a lot of loyalty, from any party. And too many opportunities for players that they really do have the upper-hand.

Even less loyalty with coaches unless you are an elite coach at an elite school

@BeddieKU23 Yeah he can definitely shoot it. I'd love to see him end up at KU.

I wonder if that was always part of the equation with Jairus. If it was, then it really makes sense why he ended up at BC.

Looks like that (brother) became more of a thing late in the game. Hamilton really didn't progress last summer in AAU and a lot of bigger schools backed off. Good spot for him IMO.

Not surprised he's ahead of the younger Lawson. Must be having a big season

Has Chandler not been having a great season? I haven't been paying too much attention.

Just observing both of them I can see why Williamson is getting some attention. He can really shoot it. I just think Chandler lacks the skill that his brothers have. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of potential with him but he just screams athlete at this stage. Williamson has one really good skill already.

@JayHawkFanToo

It could happen though I don't think that's likely. I don't remember if Self has commented on that scenario or if its been asked.

Self would be extremely disappointed in him if he did given what seems like a considerable amount of resources thrown his way in this situation. Imagine a NBA team inquiring about Billy (to Self) after he hypothetically left the team. Not sure the Preston's want to burn that bridge..

Wouldn’t that open a slippery slope? Let’s recruit the parents and as long as the kid has plausible deniability he is gold...

As I understand, he has to sit one year because he transferred and he will eligible around this time next year.

I should have clarified I think he should be able to play next season, not just half of one. He's already sat a year and his circumstances could make him a candidate for an appeal to get that other semester back.
