I'm Callin It - Jayhawks WIN Tonight • Feb 14, 2017 01:06 AM

I'm hoping the Syracuse/Louisville game ends in regulation. Lots of empty seats at Syracuse. Cheater Boheim is being heralded by suck-up Fran.

They do have 30,000 seats and the Northeast has been pummeled by snow storms for over a week

TX Tech v. Baylor • Feb 14, 2017 01:05 AM

Well we will see how tech comes out 2nd half. Remember baylor isn't their super bowl so it's hard to imagine them pulling this one out after the game settled down.

Motley hasn't scored and they lead by 4.. Tech just isn't good enough to win

We got a can of whoop azz just waiting for those dreaded Hillbillies, and their thugathon. The fat lady will sing, and the fat man will sigh, as we take it to them.

I'll take this for a 1000

If they did it would be hard to imagine us missing a beat. We used to be able to rely on a mostly set roster but our success has left us in limbo now more then ever

Trae Young • Feb 14, 2017 12:39 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

Great points.

Ray talked about being the one that handles the media while he's home. In college it's all on him. Not really sure why it will be a big deal for him to handle his media obligations on his own

@drgnslayr If Devonte and Svi come back next year, will they be featured in the offense by Coach Self?

Unless we find a freshman capable of surpassing them I would think so.

I think Newman will be option #1 if all the reports of his transfer year are true. Kid is wired to score

2018 Roster • Feb 13, 2017 05:50 PM

I know I've said it many times but Graham rising or falling on draft boards has absolutely nothing to do with whether he will be here next year.

The only way I think Graham is back is if enough scouts convince him that coming back and running the team would be in his best interest (that way he solidifies his 1st round position). If enough people say, hey you should come back and try and copy Frank Mason, maybe he listens. I don't think that's a realistic option though. I would put Graham returning at 1%.

With Svi the draft and stash option is always a threat but the way he's struggled on defense has got to be the most alarming part of GM's looking to draft him. Another year would benefit him so much. He would take another step up the ladder in terms of scoring options on this team (currently he's 4th) next season he could be the 1st or 2nd option. A 20 year old senior, groomed by one of the best College Coaches will still be attractive to teams. Will be interesting to see if education is a factor in his decision. Will his parents pressure him to put 1 more year into school, to get that degree. At 20 years old time is still on his side compared to most College Senior's that are pushing anywhere from 21-23 years of age. I put his return 60/40 right now based on his clear defensive struggles.

Continuing on it all depends on Trae's decision and whether I will be alarmed for next year. If he stays home I'll never mention his name again because I won't agree with any of this process. This one will be on Self too, no other way around it. I don't care if Oklahoma is the home school, this is the recruiting area that Self is supposed to win. We complain that its hard to compete for top kids thousands of miles away but yet this one sits the next state down. No excuses.

I wouldn't count out Bragg being somewhere else next year. It won't be the NBA. I do hope Carlton continues to give this team solid rotation minutes for the rest of the season. We'll see after the year what Self thinks is best for his team. I'd put his return at 50/50.

Still a lot of recruiting left to do. It seems we have 3 legitimate starters for next season in Newman, Vick & Doke. Svi could make 4 and I'll count him for now. Cunliffe, Preston & Bragg and possibly Garrett could be fighting for starting spots as well. We obviously need more talent and the pool for that talent is slim right now. At least 1 point guard, another guard in general and a post with size/rim protection ability would be the needs going into April.

It's going to be a transition year unless some miraculous things happen

@HawkChamp

thanks i hope so

NCAA Tournament Committee sneak preview • Feb 13, 2017 01:01 PM

@jayballer54

Maryland might have had a great chance of cracking the Top 16 if they had beat Purdue at home. As it stands Maryland has a really weak overall resume. The Big-10 being down doesn't help them get marquee wins. Purdue or Wisconsin or both should have been in the Top 16.

W. Virginia Game • Feb 13, 2017 12:59 PM

@stoptheflop

I believe we do play the most Saturday/Monday games. Some other leagues might have different scenario's where they play games every other but I'm not aware of them. ESPN wants KU on TV on Big Monday so that's the grind we get placed into. We play 4 consecutive Saturdays on the road as well which seems made for television

The price for success?

Win or Lose? • Feb 13, 2017 12:07 PM

100% chance Fran is calling the game tonight which mean the mute button is my best friend. Sad that the game will be ruined by him

Win or Lose? • Feb 13, 2017 12:05 PM

A KU win and a Baylor loss tonight would pretty much be the best scenario of events to happen today:smile:

Win or Lose? • Feb 13, 2017 11:34 AM

With Louisville/Cuse playing before the game tonight there's a high probability this game won't end on time

Win or Lose? • Feb 13, 2017 11:33 AM

Watch Huggy try and steal some points tonight from James Bolden.

In his last 4 games Bolden has played 26 minutes and scored 36 points including 7-11 from 3. I'm sure if he scores KU fans will go "who is this guy".

Kid missed all of last year with an injury and is stuck on the depth chart but lately has been tearing it up. Not too many kids can come off the bench, play 10 minutes, and score 17 points like he did against Oklahoma 2 back.

Win or Lose? • Feb 13, 2017 10:39 AM

Well I'm glad coach is playing up the Revenge Factor going into this game because we need it. If we were to judge how we played Saturday as a comparison to tonight it won't cut it against West Virginia. They just don't play the same type of basketball that almost all of D-1 plays.

Have to win the rebounding edge and make shots. Can't have Ahmad or Adrian making everything, they are again our biggest matchup nightmares

W. Virginia Game • Feb 12, 2017 04:38 PM

I'm gonna be honest I think we have a big chance of losing Monday. I do hope that our players bring it and the atmosphere makes it difficult for West Virginia because otherwise I'm not feeling great about this game.

KU will have to win the fundamentals battle. That means rebounding, 50/50 balls, points after turnovers, points in the paint. West Virginia does all of this better then KU and killed us in Morgantown doing so. We lost our poise and that can't happen at home.

Josh Jackson was incredible Saturday but he won't get away with points in the paint like he did against Tech, they will be charges because West Virginia flops flops flops. A primarily jump shooting tech squad was able to live in the paint with ZERO resistance. How do you think WVU scored so many layups against us? Because we don't have anything to stop a team from running back screens on us all day, something has to change with our paint defense.

I hope our 3 point shot is hot and Mason is healthy enough to give us a better version of himself because otherwise we are underdogs

NCAA Tournament Committee sneak preview • Feb 12, 2017 04:27 PM

This preview was a joke and nothing more than a popularity contest for the ACC. Not having any big ten teams is a flipping joke. Joke joke joke. Did I make that clear

Wins like these win championships • Feb 12, 2017 11:52 AM

This win is good enough in conference play. I guess finding a way to win when your POY candidate is without a doubt signaled out by the refs says something about this team we didn't know. Jackson had IMO the best freshman performance in a very long time.

this is by far becoming the most maddening team late in the season that I can remember. We won but yet we looked like a team full of Swiss cheese. 5 conference games yesterday, 4 comfortable wins except KU.

Frank better be healthy for Monday that's all I gotta say..

can't get anymore biased then that

Ya no lie. KSUs press breaker is a million times better than ours. I hate our lob pass down the side that get picked or thrown poorly a lot.

Turnovers weren't the issue for ku first time around against WVU. But in general I agree

WVU K-ST • Feb 11, 2017 05:56 PM

WVU K-ST • Feb 11, 2017 05:55 PM

@BeddieKU23 ya I don't really care who wins. I'd like to see KSU left out again this year. It's crazy to me that them losing to us at home improved their RPI from 54 to 38. No way are they are top 50 club.

Exactly.

WVU K-ST • Feb 11, 2017 05:34 PM

They just suck that's all there is too it. Game is over

THE FINAL TWO WEEKS • Feb 11, 2017 05:23 PM

Kansas St

by a ton

Crazy, and he sat the last 4 minutes

Young’s 65 bested his previous career high of 60 points last season. It also is the most points scored in Oklahoma 6A, beating his own record.

Coming into the game Young, a McDonald’s and Jordan Brand All American, was averaging 42 points per game. He had scored 44 earlier this week with Kansas coach Bill Self in the stands.
