Wanted to give a shoutout to BShark, Beddie, Jayballer, KC Matt and the gang for keeping the recruiting news coming. You all do a great job, and I really appreciate the info you dig out, and divulge. Keep 'em coming....

Hopefully the constant updates lead to good news sometimes. Really important to finish 2017 class with top talent and look to 18 to fill needs which could be everywhere

Oh and I'd kill for Zion or Langford but no chance. Seems like we might be able to sneak Hamilton out of NC if we need a wing.

Definitely we are just "there" with those guys. I have to think we might have playing time available which could change things

@BeddieKU23 I looked up Simi...holy cow...he reminds me of JJ.

Yeah he's really good. Not sure why we haven't thrown the hat into that one.

@Kcmatt7

the 2 I listed are multi-year types. Williams has OAD ability. I agree we will need bodies

2018 Recruiting • Jan 26, 2017 08:41 PM

@Kcmatt7

I think we should be selective. 18 class is down. Grimes, Dotson seem to be two we have a great chance with. We should be all in on Emmitt Williams. ALL in.

This summer will be interesting to see what we go after. 19 class has guys we really want.

Jalen Carey listed as a SG on ESPN ranked #12 SG. Will be a Top 100 kid when they expand the rankings. Hope we stay on this one.

A few others I wish KU was recruiting who I've watched recently.

9 Simi Shittu PF (Canadian prospect, could work the Wiggins angle). Very skilled player.

35 David McCormack C - Huge man 6'10 280 is starting to get in better shape. Hudy would do wonders with this man. Teammate of Preston.

2018 Recruiting • Jan 26, 2017 08:12 PM

ESPN updated Top 60 rankings. KU targets

2 Zion Willaimson PF (Unlikely)

3 Romeo Langford SG (unlikely)

5 Jordan Brown C

7 Emmitt Williams PF (should become a major target) Could be a top 3 player when all is said and done.

14 Quentin Grimes SG (the key to the class IMO)

16 Brandon Williams PG

32 Jairus Hamilton SF (Staff recently visited him)

34 Devon Dotson (Will Visit KU Feb 4th)

@BShark

We'll see, kids from his area have proven to be tough to pull. I do like him coming for a home game that should show him a good time.

@BShark

That's positive, same day as Young

I need @jaybate-1.0 to investigate whether these teams were drinking Water or Gatorade at their games.

@JayHawkFanToo

There was a few times during the game where I was hoping Self would have gotten a T. Sometimes those plays turn out to change the momentum of a game. Who knows if that would have been one of those situations. Coaches like Huggins & K are such habitual offenders about getting in a ref's face that they get away with it often. Just like Huggins defense, you can't call every foul. Same logic applies to him barking at the ref's

Something in the Water? • Jan 26, 2017 11:19 AM

1, #2, #4, #6, #8, #14, #16, #17.

That's 8 ranked teams losing since Monday. Six of the Eight lost on the road.

Puts our loss in some perspective here.

Baylor went to the line 18 more times then Tech last night and only won by 4 at home. The friendly whistle in the Ferrell Center was as easy to spot as it was in Morgantown.

Crazy week in Basketball so far

Reality - and Gut - Check Time • Jan 25, 2017 08:33 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

that looks like solid hand to ball contact. I mean that is how the ref's saw it.:smiley:

the rules of how games are called in West Virginia are non-existent. Higgins and company made it up as they went

Lucas and Svi • Jan 25, 2017 06:49 PM

@kjayhawks

Right, it wasn't just one player that was doing it. Although his seemed to stick out more than some of the others because there was clear plays where he just dogged it

I can't believe we were guarding Ahmad with Lucas last night. Ahmad is a not a post player, he plays SF and has a streaky jumpshot. That shot was on last night, but we continued to put a post on him that would stand 5 feet from him at all times.

E X H A L E ! • Jan 25, 2017 06:46 PM

@drgnslayr

Valid points. It was one of those nights, again in Morgantown where nothing made sense and little went right. When we battled back for that short-lived lead in the 2nd half I thought just maybe this team would overcome everything but in the end we let multitudes of poor play from a team and individual aspect snowball into the final result. We deserved to lose the way our energy level and body language looked. I did not see a team that was willing to take punches and fight back.

Strange calls don't even begin to tell the story. I'm sure it would be hard for any of us to put aside emotion of how the game was being called. Again I might sound like I'm blaming the ref's and really I'm just trying to point out how poorly officiated the game was and how we let that affect the outcome of the game instead of rallying around it. When things didn't go well we just didn't have the answer.

E X H A L E ! • Jan 25, 2017 06:10 PM

@drgnslayr

I'm sorry you missed the first half, they announced throughout the day the game was changing networks. We actually played pretty well in that first half for large stretches. Held a 5 point lead and blew it on 2 possessions that resulted in wide open 3 pointers and that pretty much ended all the positive momentum for the rest of the game. I remember saying to myself at that exact moment that the game was probably over. Not because I was trying to be negative, but just because it was the vibe I got from seeing a team battling to hold a lead and lose it in less than 30 seconds.

As I posted in another thread our guys were affected by the officials. They clearly got under the players skin. Mason played like a freshman for a large portion of the contest and we now see when he plays poorly that the rest of the team follows. It was a poorly played game and I expect we'll see a different team Saturday

Lucas and Svi • Jan 25, 2017 06:03 PM

@wsloan311

He really did give up on some plays and some of that was due to the foul trouble. It is not acceptable though and tape will show that.

Reality - and Gut - Check Time • Jan 25, 2017 05:59 PM

@DCHawker

Quality Post. The harsh realities always come full circle with a loss. We seem to see the same theme play out in Morgantown every year now. Good thing we get the return game in Allen in 2 weeks. The beauty of the round-robin is KU can use that loss when we play at home.

I felt like I was watching a Spanish Cooking class on TV with the way the game was officiated. I don't understand how the game can be called that poorly and inconsistently on a consistent basis. I don't care if anyone disagree's but the entire game was affected by how it was officiated.

We saw first hand 8 seconds into the game how this game was going to go. Frank Mason called for what? Handing the ball off and having a defender run into him? I suppose play on just doesn't exist.

Now our players lost this game fair and square but you could tell they were all frustrated and affected by those 3 guys on the court. Our players did not use the scouting report to their advantage. That was the worst defensive effort in years. West Virginia ran the same play over and over with a screen for a post/wing into the lane. We didn't successfully stop it once I don't think. That's poor recognition by player and staff.

It is gut check time. I do hope that this loss will help this team react to the situation because the game on Saturday is arguably against a better team in a more hostile environment. We saw how poorly we handled last night with guys who have been there 4 years. I don't think anyone from this team has played in Rupp. I expect we'll see a charged up team on Saturday, that's all we can hope for
