With Duke's schedule in ACC play- there is at least a chance they could go 11-7. UNC can sweep them (although probably unlikely). Road tilts at FSU, Notre Dame, Louisville, UNC, Virginia.

How long is Indefinite • Dec 22, 2016 02:40 PM

@BShark

No excuse for Bolden, he knew the situation he was getting in. Tatum needs to show off for the NBA.

How long is Indefinite • Dec 22, 2016 02:32 PM

@Kcmatt7

Was just about to say that. Duke isn't playing well, anyone that watched them against Elon or Tenn St knows this team isn't firing on all cylinders and now missing their 2nd leading scorer will probably give Virginia Tech a golden opportunity

2018 Recruiting • Dec 22, 2016 02:30 PM

@Kcmatt7

Watched him play against Oak Hill where Billy Preston plays and he was sensational. One of his other teammates is signed with UNC, big bruising forward type. Of course if Romar isn't fired we would have no chance anyway but if he does and KU misses the Duval/Young party this guy would be someone to go after.

How long is Indefinite • Dec 22, 2016 02:24 PM

First TV timeout when they are losing 7-2?

Louisville/Kentucky • Dec 22, 2016 02:22 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

The other part of it was Louisville did a great job of limiting transition. Kentucky did get a chunk of points pushing pace when they had the chance and they are the best in the country at doing this. This is why the UNC game was in their favor because of pace. When Lousiville could slow the pace for good chunks of the game, there were less possessions and Fox/Monk chucked a whole bunch of bricks (13/32) between them.

Bill RE: Next Season • Dec 22, 2016 02:15 PM

Interested to see if Self goes after Jahmal McMurray from South Florida who is also tranferring. Native of Wichita, prolific scorer but has some baggage apparently. Was averaging 20 a game in the 3 games he did play this season.

Louisville/Kentucky • Dec 22, 2016 02:11 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Yup close to a 30 footer. Monk had some really nice drives to the hoop but his jumpshot (as advertised in his scouting report) is streaky.

Tripper Allen at it again • Dec 22, 2016 02:02 PM

@BShark

There is no place in the game for those antics. The ACC and Coach K chose not to end this behavior last year with punishment. Now its backfired, yet again but does Suspension actually cure the problem? He's getting into the heat of the moment and making dirty plays. It's psychological at this point.

Marcus Smart is still flopping in the NBA- that's a psychological problem. Can Allen stop tripping players?

Tripper Allen at it again • Dec 22, 2016 01:55 PM

I will give Allen this. He was remorseful in the post game. Nothing excuses what he did, again, for the 3rd time and I don't think him crying and the emotions he displayed in the post game are an act in any way. He's still a young man, everyone makes mistakes. But I do hope the ACC takes action to make him think about those actions in games served because this is now at the stage of a problem. How does one fix what seems to be a trigger in the moment?

@mayjay

Nice post. Doke's impact will be felt. I do hope that guys step up in his absence with how thin we are. I like Coleby but even coach says we are only getting 80-85% of him and maybe for the whole season. Lightfoot is who he is right now, maybe he'll have some games where he flashes.

Minutes will go up for Lucas & Bragg and the margin for error just went down even further with them. We'll certainly see how guys step up

Big blow yesterday. I was holding out hope that the injury to our big guy would be minor and he'd be back but out for the season? Won't be full speed until summer? Jeesh, not only does this crush his current season, it puts his off-season development in Limbo as well.

Where to start.. This feels like a crushing blow to a team that only has 9 healthy bodies now. We only have 3 healthy bigs, Coleby is still dragging that leg and will have to play now., No other choice for him. We are severely limited in the post right now.

What is the hope? That Bragg lives up to expectations? That Lucas can play up to last years level for the rest of the season? We can squeeze minutes out of a hurt Coleby & Freshy Lightfoot? Go to 5 guards?

This doesn't end title hopes in my opinion because this team will live and die by its five guards. We'll see who steps up and see how this team responds to adversity.

When are we going to stop getting bad luck with our bigs. Every year a big is getting hurt that impacts the team..

thoughts everyone?

Tripper Allen at it again • Dec 22, 2016 10:39 AM

Look at these quotes from after the game.. I no longer respect K. Great coach, but you lost me now. He needs to do the right thing here.

"I handle things the way I handle them,'' the Duke coach said. "And I think I've handled this correctly, and I will continue to handle it correctly, and I don't need to satisfy what other people think I should do.'

NO, you haven't handled this correctly because it keeps happening. You put him back in the game in the 2nd half like nothing happened, he got a foul 5 seconds later and WHINED again. Joke Coach, Joke.

He went on to say that he is both a teacher and a coach and that he knows Allen better than anyone.

No you don't know him better than anyone. Get over yourself. Teacher, you failed, Coaching you failed here.

Tripper Allen at it again • Dec 22, 2016 10:36 AM

@JayHawkFanToo

Agreed.

Louisville/Kentucky • Dec 22, 2016 10:35 AM

Well the game was a good one. Louisville prevailed

We got to see Kentucky face a good defense and its clear if they don't have someone like Monk who gets 47 points that they come right down to earth. Louisville got one very good game from Snider and some timely buckets from Johnson & Adel that led them to this win. Louisville is huge, some man-child's out there so I can see why they are good defensively.

Tripper Allen at it again • Dec 22, 2016 01:02 AM

Even Jay Williams (a Dukie) said he should be suspended 5 games. Ripping Coach K for playing him in the 2nd half.

Tripper Allen at it again • Dec 21, 2016 11:52 PM

@HawkChamp

that would be fitting to bring this to the masses if they did win. Elon has never beat a ranked team

Tripper Allen at it again • Dec 21, 2016 11:48 PM

Elon is up 1 at half after that technical fired them up.

Allen should be suspended no questions asked but we all know he wont be

If Bill Self has to wait 1 year to get into Basktball Hall of Fame so they make room for Lefty Driesell & Eddie Sutton, I am good with that.

Andy Katz

Kansas coach Bill Self made the list of possible Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame candidates for nomination for the first time. The announcements of who makes the class of 2017 has traditionally been done at the Final Four.

Congrats Bill, well earned!

Louisville/Kentucky • Dec 21, 2016 07:43 PM

Big game tonight, usually this is on a weekend but with the big holiday I see why it was moved.

Louisville will have to shoot well,force turnovers and get to the FT line to compete in this one. I look at this Pitino squad and don't see a marque player like they usually have. Mitchell has been pretty good and can score but they rely on defense and balance. Kentucky is a far superior team but its a road game so obviously this won't be a cake walk for them. Which style will prevail? Up & Down or press and zone? Should be an interesting game to see how Kentucky does facing zone D as I've thought all along a big way to neutralize UK is to force them into jumpshots

@drgnslayr

He's done a much better job of being aggressive and getting to the hoop as of late. I hope he continues to show that element of his game because he's got the size and body to take advantage of that skill. He needs it because otherwise he's kind of set-shot prospect for the NBA.

I would love to see him back as senior to continue to work on his mid-range game. Graham & Mason have that pull up game that gives them the triple threat aspect and sets them apart in our offense. Imagine Svi back with Newman/Vick/incoming recruits. Another potentially good shooting team that could play small ball and exploit defenses. I could see Svi potentially being a leading scorer next year with another year here. I think he's just starting to get confidence in his full game and the extended playing time he's seeing this year is helping facilitate his improvements in his game

I didn't read half of it when it was going on but if memory serves correct it had to do with sexual preference..I could be wrong. It wasn't KU related that's for sure

I prefer the HEM that posted about KU. I hope he returns one day, loved the post game day talks. It's like you needed all day to read his posts and think of some half intelligent response, half the time that wasn't going to cut it either.

Interesting. I like seeing Jackson in the Top 3. He should be a top pick candidate the way he's playing. Will be interesting to see how the mock's change after the new year when people's attention shift from Football to B-Ball.

2018 Crootin Thread • Dec 21, 2016 11:41 AM

KU Assistant Coach Jerrance Howard will watch 2018 #1 ranked player Zion Williamson and 2019 #14 Christian Brown at the Chick Fil A Classic in South Carolina.

Zion Williamson is one of the most physically imposing players I've ever seen in High School. I Can't even believe he's a High School Junior. Could easily be mistaken for a top Football recruit

KU Assistant Coach Norm Roberts is watching 2018 PF Emmitt Williams, Trevon Duval (Both IMG) and RJ Barrett (Montverde) right now

2018 Recruiting • Dec 21, 2016 11:08 AM

In the other Recruiting Thread I posted about a new name on the radar, Jarius Hamilton a 6'9 SF 4 star prospect out of North Carolina. His coach is a huge KU fan and we have 2 assistants recruiting him right now. Will be interesting to see how involved we get with him going forward.

By 2018 I have no idea what this roster may look like and that is scary to think about.

Doke should be here Junior year but those were not his intentions when he signed here. The NBA is getting away from guys like him. Honestly the best thing for his game would be to spend 2 more years at KU or he'll be in the D-League. Just my honest assessment of him right now.

I think Newman will leave after next year, he'll have a featured role and if the reports are true about his game from this year he's poised to step in and have a major impact on next years squad. Whether he starts at PG or is the 2nd lead guard is the only question at this point.

Bragg is a tough one to predict right now. Self said he wouldn't be here 4 years, with this years off-the court trouble and his reserve role its hard to see him leaving this year. Bragg might be a guy that ends up here 4 years and has monster Jr/Sr's years. We'll see.

I'm going to take a stab and say we get Trae Young in 2017. What else we may get is a wild card based on draft decisions. MJ Walker could be in play at Wing, and we should definitely get another big to develop.

PG - Young (Soph)

SG - Garrett (Soph)

SF - ? (Walker (Soph) guessing, Transfer?, unknown recruit?

PF - Bragg? (Sr), Lightfoot (Jr), ?

C - Doke (Jr), Maxwell (Sr), ?

Devon Dotson seems like our best bet at a high quality PG at the moment. Things could change with him because of the recruiting area he's from and reports that his parents desire to see him stay in-state will make him a tough pull.

Grimes should be a KU signee sometime in 2017, can't see us losing out on him. I do think we will be in it for Langford until the end- get a visit- maybe he says some good stuff that keeps us fans thinking we have a chance. Big time player.

At this point I don't have much to say about anyone else, 2018 is a down class and a down year for early targets

Bill RE: Next Season • Dec 21, 2016 10:49 AM

@BShark

Interesting, I liked Cunliffe out of High School. Very Athletic, deep range on the jumper, good handles and can get to the lane and finish. I see a player Self would want. Not sure he defends anything but we'll see how the visit goes.

Some ASU people have commented on his sudden departure. I can see where they might be upset, he was the highest ranked kid to come to ASU since James Harden. Tough to lose talent you think might be the face of your program if he developed. Might be a kid that needs to mature and be grounded. A lot of talk about him not getting along with teammates, upset with playing time even though he was starting, upset with role in the offense. Who knows what is actually true but there might be some "baggage" attached to him. He attended 3 High Schools, switched AAU squads. Sounds like the typical today's kid that wants everything. Honestly have no clue whether to believe those claims or not, but if he comes to KU he only has one way or its the highway. Would be a really good get as a mid-season transfer, I think KU needs him desperately if Svi tests the waters and leaves

2018 Recruiting • Dec 21, 2016 10:45 AM

@Kcmatt7

From all I've seen scouts are high on Devonte Graham in the NBA. The mock drafts might not say as much but its hard to read into those this early. Graham will be a solid 2nd round pick, maybe even the last few slots in the 1st round type.

It's nice that Vick is getting looks, playing on KU he will with his athleticism and improved shot. I don't think there's any chance he leaves after this season because scouts are going to want to see him in a feature role. I'm still waiting for Vick to be consistent in games. He got some points late in the Stanford game but was largely absent for most of it. Svi took his spot because of his consistency. Next year I think Vick will end up somewhere in the 1st round. He'll see his opportunity for a feature role after this seasons roster attrition.

Duke/Tenn St • Dec 20, 2016 08:48 PM

Kyrie didn't recover from injury enough to play more then the games he did at the end.

Your right Giles is going to take time and the game was close so they sat him after he played 4 minutes in the first half. I'm sure his numbers will go up as he gets more practice time and chemistry with teammates.

Duke/Tenn St • Dec 20, 2016 08:46 PM

The team Duke beat last night? No, Tennesee St. Tenn St did beat Middle Tenn St this year (the same teamt that knocked off Michigan St in the tourney last year)

Just Askin.... • Dec 20, 2016 07:49 PM

@nuleafjhawk

My vote for Thursday is Tyrell Green. Last year he played 39 minutes the whole year. This year he's averaging 14 points a game on one of the worst teams in all of D-1. Shooting 50% from 3, sounds about right to have a career night. He had 18 against Oregon, 23 is his high twice this year.
