Yikes, mom wants him close to home.. That probably does it for KU's chances
Vanderbilt is good, don't get me wrong I would put him more in the 40's range because he lacks a jump-shot with any consistency right now. He can handle the ball and push the ball in transition, has pretty good vision, rebounds well and finishes above the rim. I don't think he was a fit at KU from how we like our 3 and 4 man to have shooting ability. If that is the way Self recruits those positions going forward with how successful the last few years ago have gone, guys like Vanderbilt probably won't get as much attention from us. I know there was mutual interest for a while but I think when Self narrowed in on Preston, Vanderbilt wasn't needed. We better hope that decision doesn't backfire
I would like to see more of him but the games I saw him play he wasn't as active as I expected. Definitely needs to learn to play with a more consistent motor to play under any of his finalists, especially UK. Oregon in my opinion would be the best fit for him as they like to use similar guys as their 4 man. I've had a hard time finding a good comp for him. For his ranking he's borderline OAD type but I don't see it.
I'm sure it will. Allen does this frequently. Just when I thought I could forgive him for his tripping last year because he did man up and admit he was wrong this season, he goes and does this. This type of behavior is part of who he is
I just laugh when I read ESPN's College Basketball page this morning- also known as the glorified sunshine pumper page for Duke and UK.
All the talk about Duke is with Harry Giles back they are the clear cut best team. Well he came back, played 4 minutes, didn't score and now the new narrative is "Harry Giles' debut still means plenty of growth remaining for Duke". Had they won by 30 like the media expected it would have said" With Harry Giles Back, Duke shows dominance".
Walker wouldn't start as a freshman in my opinion. But he would be a nice piece if we can get him for an official. Walker reminds me a bit of a Wayne Selden. Maybe a better shooter at this stage, he's a big guard who needs work on his handles and quickness for the next level.
He's really slow playing his recruitment though. Did mention KU is still in contact as of the past weekend when he played in Florida. He said he plans to take some visits after the new years. I'm sure we wouldn't be much of an option unless he knew Svi was going pro as well.
Tenn St is actually a decent team this year, took NC St to OT and beat Middle Tennesse St who is again good this year and beat Michigan St in the NCAA's last year.
Only lost by 10 with all the help from those paid ref's. Better check their facebook's, instagram's after Christmas, guaranteed they got some Duke gear from Coach K Santa
It's definitely in the running for worst foul called of the year. It just goes to show you how much reffing is influenced by what they think they see, hear, anticipate. One thing for sure we know Allen isn't majoring in Business- It's the old Acting 101 path
17 ft's to 3 of course the refs got their check and commemorative signed t shirt from coach k on the way in!
Perfectly okay with that, watched some of his AAU games this summer couldn't believe he was that highly ranked. maybe he's improved
Looks like Jairus Hamilton SF 4 Star, is a name we should know going forward in the 2018 class. His coach is a Jayhawk Fanatic- huge fan apparently.
The 6-foot-9 2018 prospect has nearly a dozen offers now, and is hearing from some of the best programs in college basketball.
“Everything in recruiting is going really well right now. I’m not going to lie,” Hamilton said. “A lot of schools are contacting me daily, and I’m interacting with a lot of different people. I’m really blessed.”
Hamilton said he hears a lot from Kansas, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. California and Arizona have also gotten in the mix, with Louisville the latest to offer.
Kansas assistants Kurtis Townsend and Norm Roberts are Hamilton’s main contacts with the Jayhawks.
“They contact me a lot. They text me telling me I’m playing terrific and to keep it up,”Hamilton said. “They’re trying to get down here, but it’s just so far and they’re in the middle of the season. It’s hard.
“They wanted me to come over for Late Night at the Phog, but it was tough to get out there.”
Hamilton’s coach, Che Roth said they may make the trip for Senior Night the first weekend in March.
“It’s a cultural experience,” Roth said. “It’ll change your life.”
Hamilton said there’s a lot to like about Kansas.
“I love the history. Great players come through there all the time,” he said. “They’re an elite team that’s always winning. Every year now. I love the coaching staff, and everybody is a winner.”
“Really looking for the perfect fit for me,” he said. “Going away from home isn’t such a big thing that’s a deal breaker for me. I want to go to a place where I can contribute real quickly and be on the court fast — play my position and my role on the team.”
“He’s an exceptional passer. Four year ago, the kid is 5-foot-9 and a point guard. He’s grown a foot in about three-or-four years and still has those point guard tendencies. He’s a really good passer. I still think he’s too unselfish. He could be a little more aggressive and a little more assertive. Those are areas we’ve seen big growth from last year to this year. Tonight he had 24 points on maybe 12 shots. That’s pretty efficient. He’s really doing a good job of working on his handle, and working on his perimeter game.”
I guess they are differentiating between a home game win streak and a home court win streak. The Davidson game is included in the home-game package for season ticket holders
Saw this. Maurice was playing minutes and would have been used against bigger teams like KU. K-St much smaller now just 2 guys playing over 6'7. Iwundu is going to be forced into the post it looks.
UNC played well, I don't think they played their best but they showed a lot of grit getting the game to a 1 possession game late. The concerning takeaway I would take if I was a UNC fan was the 71 points from 2 guards, 81 counting Briscoe. It was a great game otherwise filled with lots of big shot making ability from certain players. Monk, Fox & Jackson played like Pro's. Berry was also good for large stretches of the game
The chemistry you noted between Frank and Devonte is 2nd to none in the country. Add in Josh and you have the 3 best players on the team playing in sync with each other. It helps that Jackson is such a good passer and just has a great basketball IQ out there. Self truly has 3 quarterbacks on the floor most of the time.
Yeah the defense in the first half was all over the place. That can happen a lot in games, we led up a bit after getting a double digit lead. I put most of that on foul trouble. Jackson got dumb fouls, Graham did the same & Doke got a quick 2 when he was making an impact on offense with his size. We were forced to go to alternative lineups that don't have the same chemistry right now. And anytime KU is forced to play any significant amount of minutes without do-it-all Josh Jackson we see what can happen on both sides of the ball. The more games that go by the more apparent it becomes that Josh Jackson has to get 30 minutes a night.
I also agree about the offense. We got what wanted besides not making 3's in the first half. It's essential we don't have too many of those games but its good to know that if the outside shot struggles we can still punish defenses in other ways. I was happy overall with how we responded to adversity for the first time in a while. This team will see plenty of it going forward.
well said. This was their A game and 2 players scored 71 of their 103 points so really it was one crazy good individual performance backed up by another very good effort from Fox. I can't imagine Bill Self will let Monk be wide open on all those shots he got off. He made plenty of contested shots but for the life of me I couldn't understand what UNC was doing leaving him so wide open.
I honestly thought we played a very good game. Even down 5 in the 2nd half there was no sense of urgency from me. Davidson was making shots they couldn't sustain and when we had our most athletic lineup on the floor minus Doke we were dominant on defense. They scored 13 points for a good 10+ minute stretch, that is elite defending against a team that runs a lot of cuts, screen action and is active all the time.
Our 3 point shooting wasn't there and we still scored 89. We are an offensive juggernaut.
The road game at UNLV is intriguing but UNLV is so bad it shouldn't matter. I watched Duke beat them by almost 50, UNLV would need more than a miracle Thursday. It's good for these guys to have a road game before the conference slate starts against TCU
happy to hear that. this time of year is always tough on the body
loved this game besides the early 2nd half decifit. KU went on an insane run after that timeout. have to love the response offensively and defensively from them
we got the bottom of the espn barrel. happens
agreed!
very happy with VIck's 2nd half turnaround in this game. kid just has to continue to put it all together
great game for these hawks. winning when you don't play perfect. self has his athletic group out there and its hurting this davidson squad
this is a great game for KU. very happy with the response these guys have put on the last 5 minutes or so
without graham out there its been hard to play the 1-2 punch
could be svi has been good and aggressive but his defense has been terrible
davidson runs a lot of good offense. i am not surprised we have trouble guarding this team
vick has been a non-factor today
if you can't make shots you can't win
yupp he took himself out of the half and we suffered because of it
I'm glad Davidson is giving us a game, these guys need it to focus
it is technically a home game though just being played in the sprint center
Davidson has shot out their mind from 3 and it won't hold up but KU has to keep Jackson and Doke on the floor as well as Graham otherwise this will keep close
nope bad half for him. shades of last yr
junk half. foul trouble, missed 3's not having your most athletic guys on the court allowed a school that relies on finesse and jump shooting to have a lead
Mason has missed a whole bunch of shots he's made this year and the 3 point shooting has been terrible.. if 3's go in and we guard the screen and big play we will be fine
this is the game KU needs. a blowout does nothing for them
zero defense
Guarding Gibbs with your life is the only thing this team needs to do
Nice start for Jackson & Doke
no chance for UNC with the way Monk is playing
at least the first 10 minutes will be on another espn network unless they delay
the kentucky fanbase is so bad all you hear is booing after every play that doesn't go their way. so pathetic
absolutely nothing you can do, he's playing out of his mind.
of course a football game would take more time, i'm sure it will be on another like ESPN news
If kentucky plays like they have for 40 minutes and Monk shoots out his mind that is their ceiling, they can beat anyone.
If Monk doesn't make 7 contested jumpers UNC would be winning
yes they can
what a game so far. definitely on the way to 100 + for both teams
Game chat y'all, expect a good game
fastest I've seen at the college level especially for his size and athleticism
