another ill advised jackson shot, just took himself out the game
its like contact is just not allowed
vick with a huge shot
wow these refs just plain suck
a missed call on masons drive leads to that junk!!!!!!!!!!!
svi didnt even try to stop that guy going to the hoop
I say let Mason get to the lane, they haven't stopped that action all night
too slow with the ball
yeah the phantom calls start coming in.
Michigan St not looking good after a 17-2 lead. Zona playing good d

Even with Trier, Arizona is not a top ten team this year. MSU has the talent to make the final four.
I agree but they did have the potential, same as Michigan St who is replacing it's top 3 players and must rely on freshman
Michigan St should win the first game rather easily. Arizona is down to 8 scholarship healthy/eligible players. Allozo Trier possibly out for the year just tanks their season and he didn't travel to Hawaii. Can't see them winning.
I do think the IU/KU game will be high scoring. IU likes to play fast and KU always plays to the opponent. Fundamentals will be key in this one. I think KU will win by 6-10 points.
It's a good move for now because he wasn't playing.
He'll get a chance to play and at this rate the Pelicans season is already on the verge of disaster so at some point he will get recalled I'm guessing to see what he can bring to next year
Pretty sure we saw this all coming.
The New Orleans Pelicans' Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Dell Demps announced today that the team has assigned rookie forward Cheick Diallo to the Austin Spurs of the NBA Development League
I think that is what is most frustrating about recruiting for KU.
Self said Lucas (sore foot) will be able to play on Friday and start. And he said Bragg would start. Bragg didn't start 2nd exhibition
What we've known for freaking weeks when he visited Bama again. Sometimes I just don't get the guy

The bow tie looks pretty Bama
I think the Duke matchup is a toss up, and we all know Coach K's influence on the ref's. Will the guys take to the bright lights? That would be a game for Jackson to show us why he has gotten so much praise. The last time we were in MSG Mason was pretty good for an unknown freshman, remember him having ice veins in that one. I feel like Mason will be key in that matchup.
I'm hoping we can win tomm and tuesday. Certainly no cupcakes like we are used to early
Hopefully there will be someone like Vick available in the spring. I am concerned that we need immediate help rather then talent you have the ability to develop without pressure
Sure but isn't it at the least a little bit concerning that Lucas is walking around in a boot and Mason was nursing a sore thumb before our first game. And we only have 10 eligible players. I just hope whatever pre-caution this is, doesn't become anything more then that
Vick was also supposed to be a 2017 guy, but graduated early and KU was lucky to be 1st in line for him. Larry probably helped us in that one.
Yes these early games will be interesting. Nobody has a leg up on anyone, although some big injuries make it seem like KU might have an advantage in the Duke game. We don't, we don't have a 20 point scorer like they do and KU lost its Champions classic last year because 1 player could take the game over. As much as I dislike Allen, he is a tough matchup for KU. Our advantage will have to come from fundamentals-defense, rebounding etc.
They aren't as important as March which is why I think you side with caution and don't stress his leg further right now. Imagine how valuable the minutes Udoka & Bragg would have without him as far as those 2 becoming key guys further on in the season. With how Self likes to play his players he trusts in big games, it would seem Lucas will get big minutes which scares me.
I think we can all agree we'd rather have a healthy Lucas with no lingering issues to be concerned about then a hobbled man throughout this season. Injuries are the biggest concern to this teams potential
I fully agree about Garrett, I think his talent is similar to Vick. 2 guys that just didn't get the notice on the shoe circuit but are players. One of the best attributes about Marcus is he's a leader, he has that unselfish trait you look for in a floor general. His height for the position is crazy. Other than Sexton, I don't think there was another PG that fit KU better. And at his size you can play him off guard and hope his offensive game continues to improve as has been the word about his game. I see Devonte Graham 2.0 in this guy, maybe not the shooter devonte has become but its hard not see the rest of his game comparing well
They still are the most likely team to win. Returning a 20 point scorer and 2 savy veterans in Jones/Jefferson is eerily similar to KU's roster last year. If their freshman get healthy and established roles they are tough. But they lack a true point guard and that has been my gripe against them.
It's probably why he didn't play much in the 2nd exhibition game. I believe he only played 15 minutes.
If he plays and makes the injury worse, this is on Self for not doing the right thing. Landen is too important to worry about 2 games. We have to believe everyone could step up in his absence.
Maybe I'm assuming too much but anytime a kid is walking around in a boot its more then just a pre-caution and Self downplaying the injury is what coaches do
I would pick at least a half dozen teams before I picked Kentucky making the Final 4. But its the same every year.
The last 2 times KU lost in the Elite 8, the following year they made the Finals. Something to ponder
Might surprise this year with his team but I do agree
exactly, Lucas had a similar injury last year where he had to sit games to rest. this early he should not be playing if there is any risk of further injury
He's really selling the stay local angle with these Louis kids. Any top big man that plays for him is career suicide. Too bad for them
Looks like he might be considering Saint Louis. The weasel is up to tricks again.
According to multiple reports late Tuesday and Wednesday, five-star East St. Louis big man Jeremiah Tilmon — the No. 1 player in the state and No. 25 in the nation, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings — will not sign a national letter of intent with the Illini during the early period, which ends Wednesday.
The 6-foot-10 Tilmon, who committed to Illinois in July, has not publicly decommitted, and the Illini still could sign him in the spring period, which begins April 12. Some speculation has Tilmon taking a look at Saint Louis, where Belleville Althoff guard Jordan Goodwin — a top Illinois target — signed Wednesday
Sore foot they say. Wearing a boot they say.
So why risk play if the pre-caution is to prevent it from becoming a stress fracture.
Make Bragg and Udoka play a majority of the post minutes and see what the young guys can do. They need the experience.
I know, I used logic here
At least we got one stud coming our way next year.
Congratulations to @Skyline_Raiders hoopster Marcus Garrett for signing NLI with @KUHoops
Congrats Marcus, I have a feeling we will be very happy with this guy
Wooten seems to have seriously interest. I can see why he would, he signed with Nevada and now has one of the best teams in the land after him.
I'm not sure he's anywhere close to an impact signing but we'll need bodies and his video's seems to have a good amount of athleticism that can be worked with.
Agreed!
Good additional points, he is a talent but is he the right talent. And the position we seem to be in, is desperation for talent. He reminds me of the Morris twins, more specifically Marcus with his inside/out ability but would he be helpful or out for himself (which seems to be a popular scouting report on him). And if all was true, eligibility nightmare, character issues why are we chasing him?
If Preston had no issues I'd be playing a different tune. When we have to think of all the reasons why it might be positive to still be after him, you know its not a great situation to begin with.
I find it frustrating that our Coach, as good of a man as he is puts his efforts into recruiting these kids with red-flags. It just seems so off character for him to continually chase them and hope for the best. Most of the time its not a stretch to say the one's with issues are probably not good fits for KU. Obviously we've gotten our fair share of guys with unique circumstances (Traylor, B-Mac) who came from nothing and Diallo who was picked on by a broken system. The success rate has payed off but I don't get the sense Preston is one of those kids. He's bounced High Schools every year mostly for no reason then being a by-product of today's privileged. He left school in California after losing a game and rumors he was going to lose his eligibility. He then appeared at Prime Prep (which was a sham and kept him eligible) and then API (same situation) and now heads to Oak Hill in a strategic move to help his eligibility concerns.
Good point. If Jackson is the competitor he's known for he'd take this challenge willingly and we'd see that fire that every coach that's been around him says he has.
Billy Preston is the Thon Maker of this class. I will waste zero time on this kid when its pretty much guaranteed he'll burn the school he signs with, just like Mudiay did to SMU and Ferguson did to Bama/Arizona. I hope we get someone who's actually eligible.
Right, our back court is better but we'll see how we guard their action chucking style. We won't lose the game because of their post players so its going to be all about how we beat them with our strength
Definitely. Newkirk was decent at Pitt, but he was never the full-time starter. So this is his first gig as a starting PG. 4th year Junior so I expect he'll be okay with a year in the system. Mason should have his number.
We will have to mix Jackson/ Svi or Vick on him. Anunoby is very athletic and is showing a more complete game this year. Recruiting services really missed the ball with this one just like Oladipo. Crean has always been good about finding recruiting diamonds.
Indiana is very similar to KU this year. They have 1 really good post player, 2 young post players with promise (Morgan & Davis) and 3 really good guards (Newkirk, Johnson & Blackmon).
I'm hoping our advantage is that Newkirk is running the show for the first time after transferring from Pitt and needs time. Yogi was a very good leader for IU and that will be tough to replace. Blackmon is returning from injury and Johnson has always been a complimentary wing that can have big games and shoots the 3 really well.
I expect we will struggle guarding the perimeter and stopping them from jacking 30 3's which is there MO and only way of winning. You stop them from making 3's and you stop Indiana. Hopefully I'm wrong but perimeter defense has not looked good in the exhibitions so this is going to be 1-2 possession game I believe.
It's the story of this generation, nobody wants to be told honestly they can't do this or that.
It's why we have unheard of transferring all the way down to the High School level. Kids attending 3-4 HS's just to get what they want. Andrew White is the perfect example of the new age mindset.
These top kids will find a school that will sell out to get them. Not saying Oregon did any of this but there situation from a depth chart standpoint is no different that KU's and he still went to Oregon. Altman is a very good coach and has built Oregon up to be a national contender so in his mind I'm sure he thinks this is a win-win.
Fully agree about the impact getting Garrett was in regards to getting Brown as well. I think Garrett will be a better College player, stay longer and will have a bigger impact.
Hopefully spring recruiting will yield some impact players. November is dead again. It's at the least, concerning that KU has struck out on its big targets and will have to try and get involved with whatever stragglers are waiting for Spring (which is not many at this point).
I hope so, he's an important player on this team
Bob is very good. Will be much easier to listen to he does a lot of College Basketball games. Also the voice of the NY Jets.
At least ESPN got it 50% right.
I saw something from an Oregon insider that their style of play fits him better. Offensively & Defensively they like big wings who can handle the ball and he fits that role. Looks like they have sold him on what type of role he'd have there. They may lose their SG and SF to the draft after the year which would put him in line to start immediately.
Not sure on the exact rule for red-shirting but I believe if Lightfoot plays 1 minutes of game action his red-shirt is over. I think we need him to play this year because its important for him for his soph year when he'll be counted on more. He looks like he can play some and we can all see Coleby is not even close to 100% out there so having that extra body available is important.
