Cam Martin officially in the portal.

Don't know if we'd be interested in anyone but most Providence players and recruits will end up available with Cooley moving to Georgetown.
Hopkins.
Will be really interesting to see how prepared he is. Potential to be our most important freshman
I want Kevin back badly for all the reasons you mentioned. He was the perfect fit here. He's gone though so it is what it is.
I think you'll see Self adapt with the portal. The year he took the Lawson's & Moore didn't exactly pan out as planned and that was with all of them sitting a year due to the rules.
Moss and Jalen Coleman Lands were valuable bench pieces the 1 year they played here. They brought scoring off the bench. They were valuable.
Malik Newman gave us a magical March.
Remy Martin said hold my beer in March.
Kevin this year was a homerun.
In the next 1-2 years the Covid years will be exhausted, and you'll see a shift again, I think. Teams are so old because of the covid year and transfer explosion. It's hard for 18-year olds to compete against 22-25 year-olds which is what we are seeing right now. Coaches have had to adapt to survive.
Well I think you'll see that with Bobby & Zach potentially. 2 guys that did not develop into roles they were expected to have coming into the year returning for another year. Neither is set in stone but the intel suggest it could happen.
Yesufu is also a case of not developing where they thought he could get. He also played out of position this year due to his limited skill set. Self signed 3 guys from the High School ranks. The writing is on the wall there imo.
I agree program/roll players are important and I think Self values that too. It's hard to keep them now with the portal. I don't see Self pushing players out like other programs might do. That doesn't sound like a Bill thing in my opinion. Bill will keep the culture good where the guys that want to be here stay and the ones that don't, have the option to find a better fit.
I do think Bill will attack this year with careful intent. McCullar was that guy last year. He'll adapt like always.

Are we strictly left to portal transfers?
Are all decent HS prospects committed? Or how about some mentioning reopening their recruitment?
Yes. The 23 class is way down. Potentially you could return 6 guys with experience. Harris & Adams are your only 2 experienced guys coming back.
Clemence, Bobby, Udeh, Ejiofer have little overall experience. 4 incoming freshman is a lot in this portal age.
We need experience badly. As we've seen the last 2 years it's difficult to win when your young.
@drgnslayr said in Alpha Kevin, 2023-2024:
Wasn't Rice at Texas a portal grab last year? We sure missed on that one.
Yes, New Mexico St. He flashed big time in the NCAA tournament last year when they lost. KU wasn't in on his recruitment though. Beard definitely found a good one.
In most cases when a coach leaves, those players will receive waivers to transfer regardless of their transfer status before that (had they used the 1-time waiver). I haven't seen or remember an example of a player being denied a transfer due to that issue.
It probably will happen where a player gets poached from KU in the future that we don't want to lose but that hasn't happened yet. I think it's important to note that KU's program is desired and we have the reputation to recruit talent here. As long as Self is here I imagine that will continue.
Over 2 currently with the 4 incoming freshman.
Cam & Cuffe will free up those spots bringing us to 12.
Expect MJ to transfer. I would also expect Yesufu to also explore his graduate options. That would free up 2 spots for the portal.
Zach seems like the one wildcard, Bobby said after the game he planned to return.
If Zach leaves you have 3 possible spots for the portal. Think that's about as accurate of info as we have.
Yeah disagree wholeheartedly.
Norm did great considering the circumstances. Had the team in position to win the entire game.
Needed some help from his players..
Usually is every year for Self teams
Troubling to see Harris under 60%. He doesn't look like a confident shooter at the line. Something he will have to address this offseason
I get the frustration with the portal.
I think it has done good, obviously the underbelly can be no fun when it comes to NIL impact and tampering etc. I do think it's benefitted KU positively. You still have to have a program built which Self has so I don't see a big issue in our view.
Just under 600 in one week in the portal
Roughly a dozen teams have lost anywhere from 6 to 8 players to the portal each. Pretty insane turnover.
Yes he made it official today
Can't see this full time, Udeh is a walking foul
Sorry I meant Bobby, Joe, MJ.
I really think McDowell will be good here at some point. Really interested to see how he does this offseason because I could see him getting minutes but it's too early to tell.
I'm not sold Chris will be mature enough to handle the coaching and his emotions on the court. It's a huge concern. I'll hope for the best. He didn't exactly have a banner year at Montverde, playing PG on a stacked team. He didn't start if I recall either. Probably a 2 guard here that can handle the ball like Self likes. He's turnover prone as well. Thinking he's going to be a bit of a project but if he puts it together I'll be excited to see what happens.
I guess it will depend on the departures and who they can get.
KU has 2 1/2 starters coming back with Udeh the 1/2 since he is playing behind KJ.
Elmarko will be exciting but I also wonder about growing pains since he is ball dominant and will have to learn to play off Juan. I see it working since he will have the ball in his hands plenty even with Juan but it's going to take time.
Zuby has promise as your 3rd big. That's 4 guys I have trust in. You need 3 to 4 more.
The rest will never start here. Yikes
Yeah he certainly could make comparable cash here I would think.
Kev had his sr day. If he was entertaining another year he's certainly not showing it.
I agree Kev showed some real promise here late. He made plays that Jalen wasn't yesterday. Would love another year of him, but that door seems shut

@BShark Portal should be Bill’s favorite thing. Proven d1 experience that can come here right away and pick it up quick
Yeah I think we add two starter level guys this offseason.
Not enough tbh
Perhaps he will be an alpha on a g-league or European team next yr. Kev go get paid!
