29-9 run by UCF. Against a team that really doesn't have much of an offense...
29-9 run by UCF...
12 fouls to their 6 and 12 TOs to their 7 - that's the difference in the game...
20-5 run by UCF...
We've scored 5 points in almost 9 minutes...
They have 6 more shot attempts and 8 more FTs - TOs and ORBs...
Have they actually forced any of our 12 TOs???
Still no shot attempts by Elmarko. It's one thing if your PG is pass first and doesn't look to score often, but what is the purpose of a 2 guard who isn't looking to score???
This is a 13-2 run by UCF over 5+ minutes..
2 completely lazy, stupid TOs to start the 2nd half...
We had a 35-12 run against UCF - and yet are up just 8....
14 points from bench so far. Just 2 points from the starters at the 1 and 2 spots. No FGA from Elmarko. We simply can't afford to have 2 starters not looking to score...
We're on a pace for another 18 TO game. It's not like they are actually forcing the TOs...
10-0 run by UCF...
Last 3 minutes have been just as bad as the first 3...
UCF should not have an 8-0 run against anybody....
Just when it looked like we had the game in hand...
Not going to see Juan, Nick and Elmarko on the floor at the same time very often...

What I hear is that Furphy can't defend a quick backcourt guard. He will die trying I know that.
That may well be - so it will be situational. But then give him all the 3 and 4 sub minutes...
I hope HCBS will make Furphy either a starter or primary bench option. I really think that with 20-25 minutes per game, he's a consistent 10-12 PPG and 5-6 RPG...
So, what has become increasingly clear is that Elmarko doesn't add that much at the 2 spot. Way too passive and not a natural position for him. Furphy better at the 2-3-4. Elmarko should get primarily Juan sub minutes (and hopefully give Juan real blows) and just occasionally at the 2.
I'm ready for Furphy to move up to our 3rd scoring option - that is, I want him to become more of an alpha and look to score - not just wait for the open 3.
A light has turned on for KJ in going after RBs...
Start can't be any worse than that...Elmarko looks lost/passive in the first 2 minutes...

@Crimsonorblue22 Nick looked good yesterday, had a couple of steals and was much better defensively. I’m kinda shocked that Jackson has a leash of 6 miles while the other youngsters have one that’s 6 inches. If he has a game like yesterday again, I’d start Timberlake or Furphy
The problem is that we desperately need Elmarko to start and improve. He’s the only athletic small we have to help guard opposing smalls. We all love us some Furphy, but he’s not that guy. Timberlake hasn’t proven to be that guy either. McCullar is great on D, but smaller quicker guys are tough to stick with.
So unless we are playing a bigger, slower team, I can’t see how Furphy starts.
And we know how Self feels about defending…
Agree that Furphy can't start, but would like to see him get 20 minutes a game at both the 3 and 4 for Kev and KJ...He has high Bball IQ, which can't really be taught, and he rebounds more aggressively than anyone else on the team...

How many times are we gonna hear about this call?
We'll, it was a HUGE break...
@Crimsonorblue22 said in KU vs TCU game chat:
Nice shot Juan!
I might call it a wing and a prayer.... :)
They are in the double bonus. The next 3 for us will be front-ends...

El Marko ought to be fresh
Fresh or stale, he hasn't done squat today...
@AsadZ said in KU vs TCU game chat:
Insane shooting by TCU
Actually, we are hitting almost 60%. Just way too many stupid TOs...
@DanR said in KU vs TCU game chat:
Turnovers are starting to cost us
Dominating the offensive(+12) and defensive(+5) glass, but fewer shot attempts thanks to 14 TOs (to their 6)...
@Gorilla72 said in A look ahead to Conference Play:
A quick review of the Big12 teams records seems to indicate most members are playing lower rated teams. Houston has scheduled that way forever but it looks to be prevalent now. Most Big12 teams have great W/L records but opponents have been weaker. When playing against ranked opponents, their record is poor. #3 Houston has yet to play a ranked opponent, but faces KU, K-State, BYU and Texas in consecutive games later this month. #18 Baylor lost to the only ranked opponent they played (Duke). #11 OU lost to UNC at home, with no other ranked teams on their schedule for pre-season. #12 BYU lost only to unranked Utah away but beat #17 SD State.
It should be interesting as the season progresses, but we all know KU is circled on their schedules.
Fair assessment. The B12 did win the SEC match-up handily and most (not all) B12 teams have a few quality wins (OU has probably 4 of those), but no one other than KU has a marquee non-conference win.
That is a stark departure from recent years when, in addition to the Hawks, Baylor has had 2 or 3 marquee wins, and the rest of the conference has added another 2 or 3. For example, at this same point last year, Baylor and UT had each beaten two ranked teams and ISU had beaten then #1 ranked UNC.
So, it is a bit more difficult to weigh the relative strength of the conference this year.
28 point lead at one point. Surprisingly the starters that have let them make it look semi-respectable...
Well, we were well over 50% shooting for a while...
Hawks 17-26 since 4-15 start...
@jayballer67 said in KU vs Wichita game chat:
just checking but isn't the object of the game is to put that little round orange ball through that orange round thing ? -- Asking for somebody else lol
We have 4 times - unfortunately, another 11 when that hasn't been the case. 26% shooting isn't going to win many games...
Settling for jump shots...
What is with a 29 yard punt. Special teams have been a big problem all year. Need to address that next year...

Juan, KJ and Elmarko are 3-14...
Is that good?
Maybe good defense by the other guys...maybe...
Juan, KJ and Elmarko are 3-14...
KJ with zero rebounds is just unacceptable...
How many layups does Yale have so far???
Starters other than Kev are 5-18. Against Yale...At home...
KJ 0-3 and zero RBs...
Nick has half our points with 6 minutes to go in the half...
This is way more than playing down to the competition. No intensity at all...
KU = 33% shooting, fewer rebounds, more TOs, more fouls...
Early Xmas present for the Yalies...

@Texas-Hawk-10 That would not be the sole reason but Timberlake is bad enough to cost us a game that we would have won otherwise
Yale's not that team though. Timberlake could play all 40 minutes against Yale and KU would still win.
And, Timberlake has proven he can score at least against Yale-caliber competition. I think we will need his (demonstrated) 3 pt capability at some point, and I would like to see him get a chance to play meaningful minutes and get into the flow. See if he can get his confidence back. He still has the best stroke on the team, even if the ball isn't yet going into the bucket. Not to say that I wouldn't also like McDowell to get more minutes.
