We're settling for jumpers again...

We are beating them on the glass pretty good. Turnovers a slight edge. Good shooting from Howard though.

Team effort on the glass, but if KJ could ever learn to grab a couple, we might be tough to beat..... ;)

We've missed like 10 shots at the rim - could have had 20 point lead...

WVU loses...

Not looking good for WVU...

Gradey's guy is scoring at will...

Giving up a LOT of easy points...

Gradey doesn't need to be taking contested 3s against this team...

@DanR said in Norm Roberts Cooks Up Some Bison Burgers Game Thread:

Udeh got that first foul out of the way fast

Isn't that always the case???

We do not need to be taking all these deep 3s...

@RockChalkinTexas said in Norm Roberts Cooks Up Some Bison Burgers Game Thread:

Lots more media timeouts might be to our advantage 👋

Speaking of media - of course 5th seeded Duke gets the primetime CBS game...

KJ is going to have to take a couple of those open 10 footers...

Terrible D so far...

We are going to have to take care of the basketball. Should have been prepared for the pressure...

OK, so call me crazy but here is one of my challenging piks - - I'm picking whe they match up and I think they WILL match up - I'm taking Arizona over Alabama - go ahead call me crazy but that's my pick

Small sample size, but ASU and Oregon's 24 and 25 points beat downs might suggest that the PAC-12 teams are better than assumed???

Okie State just edged mighty Youngstown State in the NIT...But at least they won. Clemson lost to Morehead State and Florida got whipped by UCF. Maybe UCF won't be an easy night off in conference?

From CBSSports.com....

  1. Reigning champion Kansas gets jobbed

After Kansas thumbed its nose at the NCAA throughout the FBI case investigating the program and corruption within college basketball, which was adjudicated before the season with mostly meaningless penalties, it doesn't feel like too much of a stretch here to say the committee wasn't incentivized to go out of its way to award the reigning champion Kansas Jayhawks. Maybe that's a little too tin-foil cap theory-like of me, but consider this: Kansas had 17 Quad 1 wins -- four more than No. 1 overall seed Alabama and 10 more than No. 2 overall team Houston -- and landed as the No. 3 overall team.

Kansas still landed on the No. 1 seed line, but in getting passed by as the No. 1 overall seed and getting jumped by Houston, KU did not get to land in the Midwest Region. That pushes the Jayhawks to the West, which is arguably the toughest region of them all. So not only did the Jayhawks not draw a favorable geographic spot, they got a tough region to boot.

Based on Vegas odds, the West is by far the toughest region, at least at the top. 3 of the 6 top betting favorites to cut down the net are in the West (KU, UCLA and Gonzaga). The other regions have just one each. West has betting favorite 2 and 3 seeds, and second favorite 4 seed. From betting standpoint, Midwest is easily the weakest region.

@Texas-Hawk-10 PG or not, UConn is the team I'm most worried about. They've only lost twice in the last 11 games - 2 pts to Marquette and 3 pts to Creighton. They've beaten Alabama, Marquette, Creighton, Providence, Iowa State, Okie State, Florida and Oregon.

Complain About KU's Unfair Bracket Thread • Mar 12, 2023 10:12 PM

I think the easiest paths to at least the E8 are two #2 seeds - Texas and Arizona...

@BShark said in Texas game chat (danger I'm 0-1 in my last game chats):

Hope they see this. Chip time.

I'm not sure he is wrong. Has any recent national champion lost 5 games by 14 pts or more??? We are a fragile team, living on the edge. Almost completely dependent on the 5 starters. If locked in defensively and generating fast break opportunities, with at least 4 starters scoring, we beat anybody. But if one or two, esp. Juan, are having a bad game, we aren't particularly good. Thin margin between getting knocked out early and winning 3-4 games (don't see a 6 game winning streak against good competition...).

2 players in double figures, and barely that...

It's stunning how bad MJ is defensively...

UT is a ridiculous 25-41 on 2 point attempts - most lay-ups. No defense....

This will be our 4th beat down of the year. Common denominator is lack of balanced scoring...

Bobby simply cannot handle the ball at a D-1 level...

Definitely not Juan's night. His season long assist-TO ratio is better than 3-1. Tonight it is 2-4....

Stupid foul...

Joe has as many shot attempts at Juan, Gradey and KJ combined....

4 points from Gradey, Juan and KJ. That has to change. We need each of them to score and at least two of them to get to double figures...

That’s the easy way. I do think there’s a chance jalen could carry us with like 20 next half.

Respectfully disagree - evidence is pretty compelling that we will win if we have 4 or more players in double figures.

10 shots from Jalen and Joe - none from Gradey. JWill is a warrior, but he isn't efficient offensively. We aren't going to be at our best unless everyone is contributing...

Interesting that Harris is named the best defender in the league, but doesn't even make the first, second, or third team. crazy!

Exactly why Self keeps saying he's underrated. Hosed.

Best PG in the league

8th in the nation in APG. Better than 3-1 A-TO ratio. Has second fewest TOs per game of top 50 assist leaders. Doesn't score as much as most other lead guards, but doesn't need to. Only really negative stat is FT% - near bottom for a lead guard.

Bright Points From The Texas Game... • Mar 05, 2023 05:34 PM

@drgnslayr said in Bright Points From The Texas Game...:

@Kcmatt7

You are right that we need to make 3s.... But in the broader picture, we just need to bring scrap and fight to a game. We barely broke a sweat in this game. 50/50 balls? Few or none. Defense was a shadow.

We have to play both sides of the ball but it starts with defense. Yesterday showed that. We started a push in the second half with a few Gradey 3s and they just punched us back with ease. Even the announcers mentioned we needed to get stops after those 3s.

Good defense creates offense... it also lifts the team up. I think hitting some 3s helps lift up our guys, too, but it doesn't create defensive stops by themselves.

I respectfully disagree that they key is making 3s - and I think the evidence to the contrary is pretty compelling. Look at some of our more impressive wins and point totals:
87 points against Baylor and just 6-21. 88 points in the first TX game and just 2-10. 8 made 3s scoring 87 points against OSU. 7 made 3s scoring 84 points against IU. We did make 11 racking up 95 points against KSU, but that was on 27 attempts.

The common denominator(s) in our wins is balanced scoring and generating break points from steals and and rebounding the ball well on the defensive end and pushing it up the court before defenses get set. We don't need to take and make a lot of 3 pt shots. Now, if we do make 40% of attempts, I like our chances against anyone. But, I like it more when we play with intensity, get into passing lanes and generate steals, and everyone looking to score heading the rim, including and especially Juan and Gradey....

Stats that stand out: JWill and Juan playing 39 and 37 minutes in a beat down - 14 minutes of court time from Udeh, Rice and Pettiford and only contribution to the stat sheet was a foul each - Gradey and KJ each with just 2 RBs each and zero assists.
