Teams combined for less than 25% shooting. Good stuff....
OSU is 3-15, we have more RBs and fewer TOs and we're up 3 at home............

Self not happy with the refs
Yeah, but refs don't have much to do with 5-18 shooting and 0-7 from 3....
The one stat that really leaps out is that our opponents have significantly more steals than we do. Also disconcerting is the almost equal number of TOs as our opponents, especially given how that has trended. In our first dozen games or so, we had fewer than 10 TOs in a game on multiple occasions, and I think we had more TOs than our opponents in just a couple of games. Over the past dozen, we've turned the ball over more in just about every game.
The difference is that we had two capable ball-handling guards on the floor during most of the time during the first half of the season. Say what you will about Remy and Juan, but they are both more capable ball-handlers and passers than anyone else on the team, and that is certainly including Joe, is who decidedly not a lead guard. We had fewer TOs and consistently had better spacing.
I agree with @Texas-Hawk-10 on each point. Folks are awfully quick to extrapolate success based on very limited positive contributions, whether for Zach, Joe of KJ. Like most everyone else, I would like to have seen more minutes for all earlier in the year, particularly in the relatively few games which were comfortable wins. But, at this juncture, I'm not sure anyone has amply demonstrated that they should be in for more than spot duty. I particularly don't get the clamoring for Joe to get Juan's minutes. While Joe has some strengths, he is not a lead guard and has given no indication that he is actually capable of running the offense (fwiw - he averaged 1.8 apg last year in 23 mpg last year at Drake). Notwithstanding the fact that Juan is not a threat to score and his presence allows teams to ignore him on the offensive end for the most part, I would argue that he is actually our most indispensable player right now - at least until Remy can get back on the court. There is a reason Self is playing him 38-39 mpgs, notwithstanding the wear and tear.

@DCHawker yes! Is their transfer still out too? Boy do we know how that sucks!
Cryer did not play again today. They haven't been at full strength for a while....

I heard on the radio, somebody from Baylor, the guy I can't spell, hurt his knee today.
Unfortunately for Baylor, it looks like Tchatchoua may be done. I hate to see that happen, and mean that seriously.

@Jethro The 11-7 was a call back to some of the posters above who were confident this was the worst KU team Self has ever produced.
I will confess that I was one of those who thought 12-6 was distinctly possible. But, I also noted that was less a comment about this Hawks team - neither the worst nor the best of the Self era - than it was about the overall quality and depth of the B12 this year. We've seen that play out night after night, apropos of OU's beat down of TTU last night. Although it's been a knife's edge, sitting at 8-2 right now with 5 of the remaining 8 at home puts us in a pretty good position. But we need to hold serve. We still need to play at Baylor, WVU will be tougher with Sherman back, and winning back to back games with TCU won't be easy.

Any who…. KU is still 8 in kenpom.
3 offense previous #3
36 defense previous #30
That wasn’t a bad loss now that I have a day of whining under my belt.
It wasn't a bad loss from the perspective of losing a close game to a ranked team on their home court.
But from the perspective that it's most points UT has scored in more than 2 months (and against UT - Rio Grande Valley or something) - that our end of each half execution was abysmal - that we missed crucial FTs in crunch time - that we committed numerous unforced TOs - that we gave up numerous to ORBs to a team that isn't particularly good at rebounding - and given that we could have easily picked up a good road win and gotten a big leg up on the B12 title - it was a bad loss.....
Foul trouble - gonna have to get production from the bench...

1-6 from 3. Just gotta make some of those
At least better than their 0-8....
So, we've seen this movie before - long stretches without scoring - TOs and quick shots by the wrong guys...
Lot of bricks on both ends...
Good pressure D by Joe there...

Let's speed this game up
Not sure we can - doubt this game gets out of the 60s, maybe 50s....

We should roll @UT
I'm done assuming anything with this team.
So, every game is "we good, maybe, it depends, we'll see"????? :)
We put up 83 on Baylor hitting just 5-20 from 3....

We should call a bunch of timeouts just to piss off the ACC fans
Love it, but knowing ESPN, they will cut away from our game or delay the start of theirs...
Ochai should not be in right now...
Everyone contributed today. Dave only 1-6 from the field, but 7-8 from FT line and 8 RBs. Juan only 1-5 from the field, but 7 assists and 3 steals...
Double double for Braun. Ochai one rebound away...
Team effort on the boards today - four with 6 or more...
Guys are tired and getting really sloppy - turnovers piling up - need to get some fresh legs for at least a couple of minutes....
Has Dave ever finished through contact?????
Akinjo has taken more shots than anyone else for BU - and missed them all. Tough to overcome that...
Just DO NOT throw a pass to Dave....

Harris was just standing there eating a sandwich. Obvious charge
Definitely a foul before the charge. We got a break there...
Our rebounding advantage is rapidly disappearing....

Dave missed a dunk. Ok...
Well, it doesn't count as FGA - lucky for him...

I don't remember too many points we scored having to actually run offense. We just blitzed them and played off that high in transition plus the defense. Och is clearly not 100% back
I remember Dave scoring one back down in the post…
He did - made him 1-6....
@BeddieKU23 said in Baylor Game Thread:
KU needs about 27 to 30 this 2nd half to win
I'd like to get a couple more than that. We have given up 50 in a half before... ;)
Matador defense by Jalen there...
We're actually shooting poorly on jumpers, but making almost everything around the rim, which is certainly a change for the better...

The same thing against ISU. A lot good in that game, but he chucked a few ill advised 3s early in possessions - which didn't come close to going in - same as these...

Don't like the reference - Chiefs blew a bigger lead than that... ;(

We are a much better offensive team with many fewer turnovers when we don't run plays for Dave. Spread the floor. Attack the rim. Get open jumpers. Let him focus on getting offensive rebounds and points off put backs and dishes. That's it...
I probably said a few times out Dave just needs to play the Landen Lucas role.
Which he can do pretty effectively if he doesn't have to worry about scoring. And, I don't really mind him taking the 10-12 foot face up jumper when they lay off of him. He can make those, which Landen couldn't...

Not if he keeps having the guys try to throw it into Dave...
WVU has 21 points in the 2nd half at home...
Perhaps a wee bit of overreaction to one game??? Yes, Joe provided a spark and stepped up when we were down a man. But, he took a few quick, ill advised shots. Net very positive, but... Yes, he should get more minutes off the bench. But the idea of him starting in place of Remy or anyone else??? Remy was a 1st team All-Pac12. Joe wasn't a starter for Drake - Drake. Averaged just over 20 minutes and about 13ppg. Folks really think he's a KU caliber starting or high minutes guard??? Love him off the bench for energy and a spark...
Juan was really solid tonight. Dave also - but that's because we ran like only one feed the post play....
Execution in the last 2 minutes has been awful...
Brockington has taken almost half their FGAs....
Lordy - if they were capable of making any shots, this could be nail biting...
Still not totally confident yet...
We're inching closer to a 1-1 assist to TO ratio...
We just can't make lay-ups....
Weird, but CB has taken 4 more shots than anyone else on the team...
Juan and Dave actually 13-14 from the field...
I would much rather see Dave take a straight up 12-15 footer over a 3 footer....
So, Joe has done some good things, but shot selection has been bad - and 1-6 to show for it...
