Ball movement much better for GM than KU - getting much better looks....
Bill not happy with Joe......

The ball already sticks in his hands too much for my liking.....
Assume we will see Yesufu now...

Good look for Och, those will go in more often than not.
I would settle for just slightly less than more often than not... ;)
Mitch 4-4 - rest of the team 2-7....
@Kcmatt7 said in Jayhawks vs. Patriots (George Mason that is):
Itβs been fine with Remy I suppose, but still like our starting lineup the best. Give Joe a shot early and see if he can get going
Our offense has been more than fine for the most part. And, it's not just Remy - it's that we've had 2 real ball handlers on the court most of the time. Better ball movement and fewer turnovers.

Not an ideal start, GM getting great looks.
I'd say pretty ugly start. And Dave being Dave on both ends....
@BShark said in Surprise (Nevada) Game Thread:
One of the issues for Jalen is Och/CB are better at functionally the same position for Self. Play him at the 5 more in the right spots (not tonight) but really just avoid the Mitch pairing.
That is the crux of the issue. Och and CB are better overall performers at the 3/4 spots and are going to get 30++ mpg. Probably just 15 mpg subbing for them. The real minutes are at the 5. But he doesn't want to play a back to the basket role and HCBS doesn't see the fit. They're both obstinate. Jalen could get 20 minutes subbing for Dave, but when he is in, the offensive mindset would need to shift - open up the middle even more than with Dave or Mitch....
Unfortunately very bad couple of minutes for Yesufu...Not going to instill confidence in putting him in when it matters...
Starters are really playing well for the most part (minus one, maybe...). What is surprising and disappointing is only 2 points from the bench - given that this is supposed to be one of the deepest teams in recent years....

These open 3's are exactly what Dejuan needs to do on offense. We saw at the end of last year that he can make open 3's at a very high clip.
Yeah, he just has to make the other team respect him because his passing and handle are both elite traits. He has flashed a bit of everything today. Hit wide open threes, blow bys for lay-ups.
If Juan scores, it's just a bonus. It is crystal clear by now that he is critical to the flow of the offense. He is a very good ball handler and passer, and he doesn't turn the ball over. KU TOs are way down from previous years, and that is because we have two true guards that don't force passes (especially into the paint)....
15 Nevada TOs in the first 16 minutes - and we only have 31 points and an 8 point lead.......
Tough to go 0 for 3 or 4 on a possession....

Well, if he does end up signing, hopefully he will have learned how to spell Kansas correctly by then.... ;)
Baylor comes from 10 down in the first half to beat Oregon. The Ducks aren't that good this year, but it's a true road win in a tough environment over the two time defending Pac 12 champs. It's pretty clear that the road to the B12 title now runs through Waco, not Lawrence. This from CBSSports:
"This victory over Oregon doubled as the 400th career win for Drew, a likely future Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer who has turned Baylor into an undeniable power. The Bears are now 64-6 in their past 70 games and on a 16-game winning streak that dates to last season. In that stretch, Baylor has beaten Gonzaga, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Houston, Michigan State, Oregon, VCU, Stanford, Arizona State and Villanova (twice). Incredibly, each of those wins has come by at least eight points."
Pretty remarkable run....
SFA is making 60% of their 2 pt shots - we - are not......
Typically, a team like SFA needs to be making a few 3s to hang with us - but they've made only 1 (of 6) thus far.....
Just now able to follow on Gamecast - not watching. 10-27 from the floor at home - getting killed on the boards - only 2 starters have scored??????

B12 non-conference wins this year include: Xavier, Memphis St, Iowa, Creighton, Tennessee, UConn, Clemson, Mich St (twice), Utah, Fla, Arkansas, NC St, and a handful of other Power 5 wins. Interestingly, only Texas and KSU are without a really quality win, but neither has a bad loss...
Was looking a bit more closely at the B12 non-conference record. Apart from a really solid list of quality wins, what is perhaps more remarkable is that conference teams have lost just a total of 14 times, and no one in entire conference has a really bad loss at this point. In fact, every loss thus far has been to a team with a winning record.
Arguably the "worst" losses thus far are KU to Dayton (7-4) and TCU to Santa Clara (7-4). No other team that has beaten a B12 team has more than 3 losses. "Good" losses include Gonzaga, Providence (10-1), Seton Hall (9-1), Arkansas (9-1), Xavier (9-1), Illinois (7-3) and Marquette twice (8-3).
Interestingly, 6 of the 14 losses are to Big East teams.
Baylor makes just 6-25 from 3 for the game and still wins by 21 over a top ten team. Wow. Villanova made just 6 2 pt shots the entire game.
Just suffocating defense by Baylor against Villanova in the 1st half. Wildcats have 9 points with 5 minutes to go....

Also, OU beat Arkansas - another good win for the conference. These will help power rankings against conference foes...
ND beats UK - a good day indeed....
12 Jayhawks scored. Epic beatdown....
All 5 starters in double figures...
3 fouls on Mitch in about 1 minute....

Shooting an "okay" 60% from the field
And, even more okay 3-1 assist to TO ratio (15-5).....
Stunningly, Iowa St has arguably the best collection of quality wins of any B12 school at this juncture - Xavier, Memphis St, Creighton and Iowa. Overall, the B12 has had the best top to bottom non-conference results of any other conference by far - several wins against Power 5 schools and other quality wins (albeit not really top 10 types of wins), and relatively few bad losses.
Just caught the last 4 minutes of the UT game. Really poor execution by the Longhorns down the stretch to lose by 4....

Ugly game - 44 all at the end of regulation. But a good win for TTU and the conference...
Big effort from starters tonight. Needed to overcome 2-17 from the bench...
We should get 4 FTs and the ball, right???
Why is Jalen only taking deep shots. He should be able to take his guy off the dribble to the rim...

That was a mighty fine possession...
This is similar to the past couple of games - opponent shooting 60%+ in the second half....
Deny him the 'effing ball. Don't let him catch it where he is comfortable....
Champ and Posh 10-14 from the field - 4-6 from 3....
No defense whatsoever....

Huggy can get his guys to do it
How has that worked out for him in the long run, compared to say, HCBS (whom your comment implies cannot do it)?
In no way am I implying that Huggins is a better coach than Self. The records speak for themselves. Just that some on the thread have passed off the defensive lapses and letting lesser teams stay close in games that should be easy wins by saying that it is too difficult to maintain intensity for the entire games. If you have a very short bench and guys have to play 35 minutes or more, then you would expect some pacing. But, if you have a deep bench and trust those guys to perform for 10-15 minutes, then the starters should be able to go hard for 25-30 and not take plays off. That's all...
@jayballer67 said in Iona Game Thread:
Coach Self is NOT happy. Talking about how our defense is trash baasically. - He brought up one time where one of the guys flopped acting to ty to get charge - -we ALL know he was talking about there ( Remy ) - -which in turn the guy knocked down the 3. - -Got to get Alot better defensively
Yeah - they gave up 52 points to Iona in the 2nd half. The Gaels shot something like 60% in the 2nd half. Also got to the FT frequently by attacking the basket.
For the life of me, I can't figure out why 20 year olds can't play with intensity for 40 minutes - actually more like 15-30 with the depth on this roster. Huggy can get his guys to do it...
23 more shots, 16 more rebounds and half the turnovers. How are we only up 15???

23 point lead down to 14 in a couple of minutes...

So yes. Iβd like Zach and KJ to get minutes but in this team Mitch might be pretty valuable
Mitch has been around forever and knows what is expected of him and how to function in the offense. Generally doesn't try to do more than he is capable of...
That was an awful break...
Mitch is second leading scorer right now...
