@drgnslayr

With that kind of motor? He can leave after one year if he gives KU a Championship next year. In so many ways I felt cheated with Embiid. He got hurt and we never got to see what could've happened. Maybe this is God saying lets try this again. ;)

All in on Brown • Apr 28, 2015 11:50 PM

If we're going to recruit another?? I want another big.

Last year our paint play was such an eye sore. If KU's motto is to go inside per HCBS then lets get another big. After all we have enough perimeter players.

Diallo a Jayhawk • Apr 28, 2015 08:07 PM

Well getting Diallo is a game changer. Wow.

Pessimism or Reality? • Apr 28, 2015 05:46 PM

@RockkChalkk

I don't think your drinking the Koo-aid at all. Though I'm starting to think Diallo is becoming a reach. No proof but Nike seems to be pulling out all the stops to get these top kids into Nike schools. I will say kind of love Nike turning it's back on Coach Cal and UK. I had a feeling Slimy Cal and his arrogant ass would cost him in the end. At the end of the day for Nike it's about selling shoes and apparel, and Coach Cal is bad for business.

HCBS has done it before. Getting gems in the rough of what's left over, and you're right He's done pretty good with transfers. Just off the top of my head Young, Whithey, and Black all turned out to be pretty good pickups. Though Black under preformed a bit he was a presence on the court. I'll never forget when he backed down the opposing team all by himself. LOL That was classic.

Pessimism or Reality? • Apr 28, 2015 04:50 PM

Kudos to all those putting a positive spin. I was kind of like maybe we need this kid and when they signed somewhere else, I then thought maybe we don't need this kid.

I think I have to join the crowd in thinking KU will be fine next if they don't sign another player. After all we are kind of reaching that point any kid we get know is going to be riding the pine anyways.

I also think we KU fans maybe sleeping on a player already on KU"s team. To me Svi has that chance to really break out. He's spent a year studying the system. He's spent a year under Hudy building muscles he didn't know he had. He's spent a year getting used to American basketball. He's spent a year understanding what basketball means to the KU faithful. Look for the kid to be locked and loaded.

As a bonus yet to young to tell, but this Bragg kid seems hunger. He's not the typical OAD kid who thinks he can play in the NBA yesterday. Yet he seems humble, hungry, and carries a resolve I will succeed.

Either way I feel the future is bright.

ACC owns the NCAA • Apr 26, 2015 04:25 AM

The NCCA is a plan, a thought that has out lived it's usefulness. It is nothing more than an ancient relic that belongs in a museum somewhere. Merely to remind persons and fans what once was.

The NCCA has been neutered, when it gave the Power Five autonomy. They only reason they still exist is the Power 5 are using them as a buffer against potential law suits from other lesser conferences.

You watch Louisville's near death ban will be lifted and changed to nothing more than a year ban. See Pen state? The NCAA has no teeth no real power.

@Crimsonorblue22

Yea I think it worked out for the best. However My point months ago was "you draft a player on potential, Why not see what he has before you trade him?" Oh but I got the what to and what for. :) It seems Wiggins is proving my point. ")

ACC owns the NCAA • Apr 25, 2015 04:56 AM

First UNC ↗

All that cheating? All that evidence? All this time? And not one word from the NCAA, not one word.

Second FSU ↗

So a Football player can get hook ups. What other hookups did he have? Clothing stores? Electronic stores? Jewelry stores? Car dealerships? Either way not word out of the NCAA. Not one word.

Yet for some reason they threw the book at Syracuse? Maybe because they ain't one of the old tried and respected ACC schools?

Oh please explain to me again how Wiggins for Love was a no-brainer?

Bill Self to OKC! • Apr 22, 2015 11:16 PM

Not an expert on the issue of taking a NBA job. However my instincts say a HC like the BS elk requires a lot of patience and being selective. Taking any NBA job that comes along can be career suicide, and wreck havoc on your home life.

The variables of the college game compared to the NBA are just so different.

In CB one bad season after several good season's doesn't even make a bleep in the radar. In the NBA one bad season can send you packing.

In CB the HC is the man. He has the power to sit a star player if he sees fit. In the NBA the star players have all the power. Get sides way with one of your star players and you maybe looking for a new job.

In CB being successful gives you many raises, a secure job, a secure home life, and when you hang it up they'll build statues and dub streets in your name. In the NBA your the hottest thing since sliced bread, yet the next year they'll drop you like a hot potato. Also nobody ever really remembers you after your gone. It really is a thankless job.

In CB there is down time. Time to practice, time evolve, time to grow as a team. In the NBA it's a grind. There is no time for practice and so. It's go time

I won't say HCBS will never take his shot at the NBA, I'm just saying he would have a lot to think about before he made the move. It is not so much about what he would gain by going pro, but more about what he would be giving up by leaving.

Not that it means anything.... • Apr 22, 2015 03:39 AM

I kind of wondered about that. KU has kind of become a home for top foreign players. Well see if it continues.

Which Jayhawk Will Improve the Least? • Apr 22, 2015 03:36 AM

I'm going to put on my KU glasses and say all the players will get better. However in light of your question I'm going to say a OAD. There will be a recruit a OAD that won't live up to the hype.

Royals vs A's • Apr 20, 2015 10:41 PM

@drgnslayr

It happened to me once when I was playing little league. I was playing second base when the kid did the same thing to me. He slid hard with his cleats up. Well I still threw the ball, but I threw it at his face. The ball bounced off his face, Blood start coming out of his nose and tears out of his eyes. I got tossed from the game. Yet for some reason I never had that problem again. Go figure.

Brandon Ingram Decision • Apr 20, 2015 07:21 PM

@sfbahawk

No please I have no desire for KU's females acting in this way. Let UK have their way. Maybe in couple of years a UK recruiting porno tape will surface.

Brandon Ingram Decision • Apr 20, 2015 03:30 PM

This is the cold reality of recruiting OAD's. One day you wake up and your left holding the bag. I get going after the best talent but at some point you have to ask yourself when does this become pointless, or where do you draw the line?

These top recruits have had more than enough time and visits to know where they want to, or have to go. What are they waiting on? I always hear such and such school is making a late push and is closing in on such recruit. Really? What kind of pushing are they doing that they could change a kids mind in such a short time?

It used to be a kid knew what college they wanted to attend when they where in junior high. Now they just sit back and let all the offers come in. Kind of makes you think what's in those offers? Huh? I think HCBS should still recruit the best, but I also think he should have a line in the sand. He shouldn't sacrifice the future of the program to chase some kid that is just looking for the best deal. To many quality kids in the 20 to 50 range that want to play for KU, to just dangle in the wind so you can see what a top talent is going to do.

Besides that why would you want to be left standing when the musical chairs of OAD stops?

Move over Shoecos! • Apr 19, 2015 09:14 PM

Oh my eyes, I must poke my eyes out.

FOE?......come on down Brandon Ingram! • Apr 19, 2015 07:54 AM

Any other year I think Diallo would be a shoe in for KU, as I think he would've liked to come to KU. Not to mention he was talking to Embiid. However I believe the problem is KU is playing this World University games. I'm not sure Diallo can play in it? Not good for him and not good for KU. After all he's likely a OAD.

It wouldn't surprise me if HCBS is changing his recruiting tactics for this upcoming year with a big emphasis on this World University thingy.

Friday Basketball Epigrams • Apr 18, 2015 05:34 AM

@jaybate-1.0

When you first posted the concept of shoe wars I have to admit I was amused. Yet after researching the concept it's a no-brainer. These kids are tied up in the shoe wars long before they even pick a college.

I can't prove it, but I willing to bet these kids already know where they are going because they are told where they are going. Nike isn't dropping millions in the AU because they love kids and basketball.

That's why I'm willing to bet UK doesn't do so well this time in reloading. Coach Cal, Mystery man WW won't matter to Nike and it's billions. Coach Cal made a huge mistake in not respecting his opponents. Becoming the most hated program in college basketball, and not winning the big one is bad for shoe sales. Americans maybe fickle but they hate arrogance and anything associated with them. To Nike this is bad for business and sales.

Zim makes it official. • Apr 18, 2015 03:38 AM

@HighEliteMajor

So I'm completely bored, and going to pick a debate with you. :) I think you under estimate Landen Lucas, and what he can do. No he's no top talent, No he won't get drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. However there is something about this kid.

I believe he is perfect for HCBS's High/Low. He seems to have the ability to take the pass or lob from the top of the key. He also seems when open to put the ball in the hoop quickly. I thought he filled in quite nicely when Big Cliff was benched for the season.

I guess what I'm saying is don't sleep on the kid. Especially if KU doesn't sign another big.

@Crimsonorblue22

I have to say I'm a bit excited for some KU football. :)

Royals in 15-16 • Apr 14, 2015 12:17 AM

This years Royals team is just nasty. They play gold glove defense about every spot on the field. The starting pitching has no problem going 6 to 7 innings, and the bull pen OMG is just sic. Also lets not forget this team is hitting for power. Scary Good

Watching this Royals team is almost like a rebirth of my youth when I watched owner K's Royals.

@JayHawkFanToo

Yea but for how long? I would also say there is some ??? marks even on this years recruiting class. Remember Nike is not loyal. It's all about the money. If Cal and the UK starts to hurt their brand they'll drop them like a hot potato.

@jaybate-1.0

I believe Cal is losing favor with not only Nike but the Kids he recruits too. He's had all a coach, a program could ever want and he couldn't deliver. Not only that he comes across as cocky and a arrogant ass. Ever notice when UK loses it's never about the other team playing great, it's because the players didn't listen to him and do what he said.

If the game is to sell shoes then being a arrogant ass isn't they way to go. If everybody hates you and you are sponsored by Nike, then people, fans will begin to hate not only Cal, UK but also Nike.

240 lbs of Recruiting Space Opened.... • Apr 09, 2015 05:18 AM

Going at on a limb here, but this is what I'm seeing. My feeling is Coach Cal and the Wildcats may not get the big recruiting class they're expecting. Coach Cal showed he can't coach a OAD team to a championship. The UK players sticking up for him said it all. Words like you can't blame it on coaching was Nike saying protect our investment. Yet in the end it was all a coached speech.

They maybe OAD's but they do want to win a championship. Look for Duke to grab some players and then look for KU to grab some players. As KU is playing in this professional tournament. ESPN is already going to air all those games. Behind closed doors I would expect that ESPN and Adidas to put some pressure on these kids to go to KU. I believe KU has 3 or 4 schollies to give. Look for them to be filled with OAD's.

Just my two cents.

@HighEliteMajor

First you know I'm pretty much in your camp when it comes to the OAD.

However I'm afraid KU and HCBS has no choice. As KU is a blue blood, has much recent success, and is a money maker for all those involved especially Adidas. In fact I think a case can be made that KU is Adidas top College school.

I totally agree that KU and HCBS would be better served to recruit to the system regardless of the players ranking, but advertisement and business partners pay the bills. I have not facts to back up what I'm about to say but I'm willing to bet Adidas and even media outlets like Fox and Espn have a say on recruiting.

I'm not so sure these OAD kids have much a say in were they go as they think they do. I'm amazed that a private school like Duke who has very high education values is getting OAD's? Lets face it most of these OAD's would have a hard time spelling their name yet they are getting into colleges with basketball history.

Think about it? UNC did every thing to deserve the death penalty from it's education of student athletes. All the evidence is there, yet the NCAA has done nothing. Now keep in mind the NCAA gets all it's money from the Tournament. UNC in the tournament is good for business. Another example look how the NCAA reneged on their punishment on the travesty that happened at Penn St. It seems if you're a power 5 school you have power.

I think we are stuck my friend. KU is going to recruit OAD's because Adidas says you will, because the Big 12 says you will, and because the media outlets says you will.

I'm willing to bet that if Cliff doesn't declare for the NBA, he'll be cleared to play next year????

I don't doubt the refs were in the bag, but the Badgers were out coached. The Badgers weren't beaten by talent. They were beaten by coaching. Like or hate him Coach K is a damn good coach. Duke's bigs had no fouls to give, yet the Badgers never took advantage of that. Also for some reason the Badgers seemed gun shy of letting the shots just fly. Not sure why? However yes I agree the refs where in the bag.

I guess with UK going down Nike doubled downed on Duke.

@Jayrawks1

Doesn't matter slimy Cal can't coach 10 mickeyD's past a tough homegrown good coaching program like the BADGERS. This is the game changer. Slimy Cal had every thing he wanted and needed, yet he couldn't deliver.

That is all that matters. The Badgers saved College Basketball today. Hell I'm going to have a tee-shirt made. It will say the Badgers saved college basketball 2015. ")

And the Badgers walked on water • Apr 05, 2015 03:23 AM

Thank you so much. The last couple of years has turned me sour. It seemed the college game had come to who had the best and the most talent. In so many ways I felt the game I loved was going away.

Yet the Badgers proved me wrong and restored my faith. Yes a team can win with homegrown players, yes a team could win, when the refs wanted to give the game to the Goliath, yes a team could win with a good game plan, yes a team can win with a coach that knows how to x and O it.

HCBS if this is what you want to build then count me in, but pay attention. This nasty Badger team had the green light from three land.

Game on KU fans. Hell yea.

WHAT IF KU SIGNS THREE OADS? • Apr 03, 2015 02:23 AM

The OAD is kind of souring my stomach but I'm afraid as KU fans we have no choice. HCBS has been recruiting these kids hard and heavy. It seems the problem with getting OAD's they leave holes in your team for the next year.

There was a time when a kid graduated and moved onto a Pro career there was a kid waiting in the wings. It seems like with the OAD's you have no choice but to continue down the path. Well unless take you're hits for a couple of years of losing to revert back to the old way.

So @Jaybate-1.0 it's not about what if we land 3 OAD's it's almost a must.

What if KU doesn't get any OAD's? • Apr 03, 2015 02:09 AM

I love winning just as much as the next KU fan. However if a player wants to stay at KU and forgo a potential NBA career, then count me in his camp.

The problem with the NBA riches is the same thing that's wrong with America in my opinion. A pile of cash doesn't solve anyone's problems or struggles in life. At best it alleviates the pain or problem of being broke. However as all you know as I do. Money is easy come and easy go. Yet an education lasts a lifetime.

If Selden wants to stay then let him stay. Maybe he won't be the player we always thought he would be. Maybe some will even say he failed and didn't reach who he was supposed to be. However life is a tricky thing. Sometimes it seems all laid out before us only to realize it was all a dream. If at worst if Selden spent 4 years playing for KU got his degree and moved on with his life. Would that be a failure? I don't think so.

Besides our success rates with OAD's with the exception of Embiid give me a four year player like a EJ, TR, and TT any day.

What if KU doesn't get any OAD's? • Apr 02, 2015 08:33 AM

@Statmachine

Yea it seems Bragg could be quite the player, but come on he isn't going to be shooting three's at KU. At least not under HCBS's watch? LOL

What if KU doesn't get any OAD's? • Apr 01, 2015 11:28 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

So do you think KU will manage without replacing Oubre, Cliff, and Ellis if he decides to go. I'm not sold on Selden going yet, but what do I know.

What if KU doesn't get any OAD's? • Apr 01, 2015 10:19 PM

I was reading about Oubre declaring for the draft. I think it would be a miracle if Cliff comes back. I just don't know if the NCAA is going to clear him to play. Selden seems like he wants to go, and I believe even Ellis has said he doesn't know if he's coming back.

I'm not sure how many scholarships KU has to give? Yet I'm starting to get a sick feeling to my stomach. What if KU is entering to the downside of the OAD. Yea we have Bragg but what if nobody else comes? Now I know some will say that won't happen, yet I'm starting to believe it's a real possibility. These OAD's want a for sure run in the tournament, and let's face it KU has bowed out in the second round two years in a row.

Could KU's lack of tournament success scare of potential OAD's?

Okie Lite Mulling Firing Ford • Mar 31, 2015 11:41 PM

@wrwlumpy

No I'll never stop rooting for KU. I meant I won't be a fan of HCBS. :)

Okie Lite Mulling Firing Ford • Mar 31, 2015 10:08 PM

@FarSideHawk

I would say you pretty much nailed it for me. Sometimes the Devil you desire is worse than the one you already have.

I think the problem with HCBS that some fans maybe having. Is it's all or nothing come tournament time. No in between. KU either has a strong showing or they play like they should've never got off the bus. That's kind of my frustrations. It's not just losing that bothers me. I can handle losing. It's how we lose and who we lose too. We don't lose to big time programs, no we lose to teams you've never heard of or just really plan suck, are just lucky to be in the tournament.

However if KU exits the tournament early again next year, then I'm done with all the excuses. No more but we were so young, but this player was hurt, or the but our shots weren't falling. No KU is t00 good of a program to exit the tournament early 3 years in a row without even a sniff of the final 8 let alone the final 4. If you guys want to keep riding HCBS train then by all means, but I'll be getting off. Next year is break or make for me as a fan for HCBS.

Okie Lite Mulling Firing Ford • Mar 31, 2015 08:18 PM

@wissoxfan83

Well I really don't know what to think on the issue. I can understand both sides of the point. However I know when the drums start beating then it won't be long. It may not be this year or ever a couple of years from now. However as the discontent grows so does the need for change.

I will say this it's not just the losing but it's how we lose, that is making me raise my eye brows. It seems like KU is either outcoached or the players weren't ready to play? That just doesn't sit well with me. Also don't forgot perception can be killer, even if there is really no truth. Nobody in the college basketball world thinks of Coach K or old Roy as chocker's, yet everybody says that about HCBS and the KU program.

I'm not saying lets raise our pitch forks and get rid of HCBS, I'm just saying I'm getting tired of being at my wits end every time they step on the court. It seems like KU could play a blind team and it would come down to a last second shot. That to me is a problem.

Barometer On The Jayhawk Nation • Mar 31, 2015 07:14 PM

@drgnslayr

I'm taking a chance in the Finals. Let's face it winning conference championships really seem to have no value. Especially when KU and the Big 12 do squat in the tournament.

Don't get me wrong I love the dominance KU has displayed over the Big 12 but in the end what does it really mean? Nothing.

Okie Lite Mulling Firing Ford • Mar 31, 2015 07:09 PM
