@jaybate-1.0
Thanks JB. I will watch the game with one eye closed.

You're on a roll, and that's one powerful spirit :)

KU vs WSU - Match Ups • Mar 22, 2015 08:19 PM

@wissoxfan83
Wow Wiss, that's one impressive prayer! I was at Church this morning, and couldn't come up with good of a prayer ;) But yes, I did say a prayer for our boys to romp Wsu - gently, of course.

@Crimsonorblue22
Thanks to you I don't need it now :) Thanks for the laughs!!!!

KU vs WSU - Match Ups • Mar 22, 2015 07:40 PM

Would @jaybate-1.0 or someone please enlighten me about what Connor could/would have told Wsu coaching staff regarding Self's Bad Ball, if at all? That is worrying me to a point where I may not be able to watch the game. Have a weak stomach. And wondered if that's why Wsu has been showing some resemblance to our Bad Ball (think jb referred to it earlier). Your positive input will be greatly appreciated to set my anxiety aside before the game.

NCAA Tourney Exposes The Big 12 • Mar 20, 2015 07:03 AM

@drgnslayr
Okay I'm settled down - so I'll ask. Do you think B12 teams are just too worn out & beat up from its long hard battle of a season to perform well in the NCAA tourney? I knew Baylor wouldn't go far thanks to its coach, but geez ISU? This makes KU look bad!! Guess KU will have to send its opponents home including UK with Bad Ball!! KU will have to go get respect for the rest of B12!

Why So Many First Round Upsets? • Mar 20, 2015 06:55 AM

@jaybate-1.0
I didn't know that was one of Self's specialty. It seems logical to conserve energy for the first game with the second in 24 hrs. Other coaches just figured this out? Are you sure JB? Or is it because teams go out so flat that worked against them, like ISU? I knew B12 wouldn't do well in the tourney, I knew it I knew it. Why can't they??? So frustrating. Are they too beat up?

@jaybate-1.0
Oh no jb, I want this Bad Ball kept in the dark until the tourney is over! Hope Marvin is not a smart coach. Thanks for the anxiety jb :)

@drgnslayr
Very surprised to learn KU leads in recruiting expenses. Then wondered why - traveling from Kansas is not cheap or timely. A KU professor went to UPenn & told me it is expensive and takes ALL day to travel to KU. Plus, while I love Lawrence and the beautiful campus, it's not quite the urban city with energy that youth seeks. So make the dorms cool for players to come as others are finer too. Gotta compete, right? Have you seen the new dorms for regular students? It's 5* apartments! Agree with you on developing kids, and don't like that college bb/sports have become revenue generator for others. But players with skills (just like any field) are also benefiting, right? Look at NBA/NFL players making millions including so many sports analysts (except gals) who were once players make a nice living. Say, I feel better. Changing times - always have good and bad, guess that's life. Did I help? :)

@jaybate-1.0
Boy JB, you sure know how to throw water over a nice sand castle! I hear you, actually nobody spoke as in spelled it out loud as you just did, but it's just too darn loud & hurts my eyes & ears! You spoiled that image of once pure innocent sport where boys in college play game of basketball for extra curricular activities!!! Indeed it has become BIG business. And money attracts the unattractive who darkens this once innocent sport we so love. Thanks for the enlightenment. Urgh :)

Wayne's World!! • Mar 17, 2015 08:58 PM

@drgnslayr
I've been trying to go inside of Wayne's brain, and this is what I pulled out. :) This is Wayne speaking - "Well, I thought I was talented enough for 1st pick last/this year, but not sure now since my knees gave out on me. I lost that athleticism which I always counted on to go NBA. Everybody said I would. I thought I would. Now, I can't even jump the way I used to or do the things I used to on the court. Not sure anymore - about myself, my future, my life. Geez, what am I gonna do if I can't make it to NBA? What happens to my dream? Don't think or know if my knees can hold me up." Now, I'm not an athlete, but if I were, major injuries such as knees will put a lot of DOUBT in my head. I had a little foot surgery, and lost senses around it - no longer the same and it bummed me out. That doubt is the internal demon we all have, and can rear its ugly head for our players - particularly at such young age when their minds more vulnerable & fragile. Hope Self is a good psychologist and is rebuilding new & improved Wayne :)

For Lulu • Mar 17, 2015 02:56 AM

@Statmachine
Great idea! I'll offer up some Hail Marys - being the Lent season, that should help, huh? Thanks for the laugh.

For Lulu • Mar 16, 2015 07:46 PM

@HighEliteMajor
Have no fear, I always knew you're a man :) Oh, and this is coming from a girl :) Grew up with men, and never could get the remote control. Dad & brothers taught me a little about sports for ALL four season - so I wouldn't make them miserable watching sports. Was so happy once football season was over thinking "finally I get to watch my shows". Wrong. Basketball season had arrived. Then Tennis, baseball, etc etc etc. Guess that turned out alright as I do enjoy watching sports - not very knowledgeable but thanks to you all, I'm having fun learning. Yes HEM, I learn from you too :)

Self Fullfilling Prophecy • Mar 16, 2015 03:57 PM

@HighEliteMajor
So here's my follow-up question. Since 69.3% includes the 2nd shots, am I safe to assume footers on KY team are effective as rebounders? What about second shots for KU 3s? We all agree that KU is not a rebounding team this year. Wow, we dropped as many 3s as UK, and UK scored 70% of the time while KU 57%! I don't have the knowledge of the game as you or others, but based on those 2 numbers, KU shouldn't bank on 3s against UK or anyone with footers/rebounders. Sorry HEM, but I can't agree with you on dropping more 3s. It'd be like spending $10 on lotto to win $6.

Self Fullfilling Prophecy • Mar 16, 2015 02:02 PM

@HighEliteMajor
69.3% include the second shots?

CLONES CLONE BAD BALL • Mar 16, 2015 01:57 PM

@HighEliteMajor
Help me understand HEM, if we don't have a footer to block or rebound, wouldn't it be too risky to be dropping 3s? Thought I heard Self say this is not a good rebounding team - I mean Mason is the 2nd rebounder we have, right? So at 40% (before the slump), are we giving away 60% without a footer to rebound? I get what you're saying, let our boys drop 3s, and make plays for 3s - there's nothing more I'd like to see than those beautiful 3s drop. BUT, without the ability to rebound the missed 3s, wouldn't it be too risky to bomb away 3s? The conservative side in me is thinking this way, hence the question.

CLONES CLONE BAD BALL • Mar 16, 2015 01:40 PM

@KUinLA
Why not take your unprofessional and vile expressions to another KU site where it welcomes & promotes it?

CLONES CLONE BAD BALL • Mar 16, 2015 01:36 PM

@Jyhwk_InTigrtwn
100% agree, and would like to request the man in charge of this site to REMOVE KUinLA. He's unprofessional. He must be a teenager with temper tantrums who spouts "I'm spoiled and can't deal anyone who disagrees with me". Have 13 yo nephew who doesn't speak or express his disagreements the way this one does. He needs to go to the other KU site where offensive language is encouraged and practiced widely.

@JayHawkFanToo
Haven't seen UVA in action, but lost to L-ville, NC and even with Duke, right? Isn't UVA one of those teams that is always hot during the season but fizzles out when it counts? That's my memory and am sticking to it :)

As im sitting here watching kentucky • Mar 14, 2015 06:40 PM

@JayHawkFanToo
I agree. But that's before Mason learned to get opponent footers to foul him. If he plays smart - driving & penetrating and get fouls from KY footers, we got it made with FTs! Oh yes, you're right about Greene, Selden & Obre dropping 3s - and that get us another NC! Of course, the stars have to align to win it all.

As im sitting here watching kentucky • Mar 14, 2015 06:05 PM

@Bosthawk
I sure would like for KU to sucker punch them right in the mouth that they won't know what hit'em! Mason is the guy to do that & if we don't panic. When we panic, we can't think therefore can't execute. That's when our boys' mental toughness comes in to bust open kentucky's air full of confidence. Love for Self & boys to go at them!

@drgnslayr
Agree. I wondered if Wigs was instructed to get through the year without injury. Seeing what I see Wigs do now, believe he didn't give 100% playing at KU - was he was listening to his dad or Self? Wish him do well as a Jayhawk, nevertheless.

@jaybate-1.0
Would you analyze something for us? Manipulators/controllers of the college bb are 1) Shoe Cos, 2) AAUs, 3) ESPN & eyeballs, and after reading an article from one of the board rats (can't recall) on Refs, I ponder. Heard we have many gamblers making $$ off of our hard working players. Wouldn't it possible that some of these games are fixed by greedy gamblers via the Refs, and gamblers paying off some players or even staff?

@drgnslayr
I rest my case slayr. Duke wins. Wait, not if Mason has anything to say/do about that. :)

@Hawk8086
If we are looking at the losses to determine #1 seeds, then agree KU=2. That said, what about the body of works? @KUSTEVE pointed out Duke is a young team as is KU, but Duke failed to win its conference and the tourney. Should Duke still be 1 because of its 4 vs. 7 losses? My logic tells me Duke=2, KU=1 :)

BAD BALL STRIKES AGAIN!! • Mar 14, 2015 03:31 PM

@jaybate-1.0
Are you saying Self's criteria for recruiting OAD/TADs = athleticism + brain smarts? Lacking in bb fundamentals, some of these muscle boys need the brain power to learn Self's Bad Ball that scraps & reprograms their muscle?

CBS story • Mar 14, 2015 05:27 AM

@Crimsonorblue22
Thanks for posting. Wonder if Dodd knows about Bad Ball.

BAD BALL STRIKES AGAIN!! • Mar 14, 2015 02:33 AM

@jaybate-1.0
So we saw a bit of what our boys can do against Cali & 10 OADs? This Bad Ball is the anti-thesis of before mid-life crisis Self era? Is it okay to believe this team will get NC? Say yes! I want/need to believe!!!!!

Espn pregame for ISU and OU • Mar 14, 2015 02:23 AM

@Crimsonorblue22
Urgh - where's the play button Crim?

@sfbahawk
My thoughts exactly. Other players have added muscle on their upper body after a year at KU, but Greene's body hasn't changed much. That said, based on Greene's comment, I wonder if he is hurt playing against big muscle all season.

“They (coaches) made a tape for me (Greene) and Wayne (Selden, Jr., 0-1 vs. TCU) this past week. I was looking at my shot from how I’m missing and when I was making them. I don’t feel my body is moving the same into the shot. Other than that, I’m shooting well in practice. It just hasn’t fallen in the game. I don’t feel as fluid. I know how my shot feels. I don’t feel my legs are getting into it. No excuses. I’ve got to make shots. It’ll turn around.” Gary Bedore @ kusports.com

I love the kid (gotta remember he's a kid, my nephew is 20 & still a goofy kid) & hope he is not playing with injured ankle or something

@Crimsonorblue22
Thanks for the validation. I love his 3s but questioned his commitment & attitude to hard work. What you said makes a lot of sense. Hope he grows & matures in March - perhaps realizing he ain't all that until he learns how to dribble, defend, follow&obey coach's directions.

@Shanghai_RCJH
Agree about Greene given Self is implementing Bad Ball which isnt about dropping 3s, and Greene is all about 3s. So how he does in March may be indicative of whats to come with BG next year.

IS IT STILL FUN TO BE A CHEERLEADER IN D1? • Mar 11, 2015 11:55 PM

@Crimsonorblue22
Great photo!! Thank you Crimson.

Jamari • Mar 11, 2015 08:20 PM

@Crimsonorblue22
Thanks for the post. Am I off the rockers thinking Jam could make a living as a back up in the NBA? He's got the body, speed, attitude - reminds me of Black except the maturity and haven't yet realized or learned what he can do with his athleticism. Am I off the wagon on this? Somebody with keen eyes for talent please tell me.

IS IT STILL FUN TO BE A CHEERLEADER IN D1? • Mar 10, 2015 08:09 PM

@jaybate-1.0
Wow, had no idea cheerleaders would cheer for the opposing school in AFH. Now, that's sportsmanship! Sad that is no longer the norm. Imagine cheerleaders of the 70s didn't dress to show all like today. Think they're cheering for themselves actually.

@jayhawk-007,
50/50 is good by Vegas standard? Not a gambler so don't know about Vegas numbers, but shouldn't it be more 80-90% in favor of Kentuckt to win NC vs 50%? Geez, we can say 50/50 for any team on any given day in March. Pardon my ignorance on Vegas bets :)

@jayhawk-007
It seems there's no clear & dominant winner, so I'd have bet on my favorite team - KU!! Thanks for the info - interesting.

@jaybate-1.0
Thank you for helping me understand the mystery! Hunter was impressive, and for the life of me couldn't understand why Self wasn't playing him. Unfortunately, Self has to play the game. Sad for Hunter. Life is not always fair or just. Now, I'm really hoping Hunter gets to shine in the tourney!

@DCHawker
I agree with you about Brannen missing valuable PT to show off his case. That said, I would NOT trust BG to get us far or FF. His lackadaisical attitude (his confidence in 3s has been both blessing & curse) has prevented him to grow as a defender & killer. He has not proven to be a Navy Seal. Self had to discipline him for being late or missing the work out. Well his body needs the most muscle (compared to other players) if he wants to create his own shots - that kid has a lanky body that is without discipline or muscle. Guys like Mason can push BG around. It's my supposition that BG has been frustrated because his 3s aren't dropping, so he did something stupid again. See this as more of a character issue with BG unlike that of Marines or Mason's! Self should have left his sorry a-- home instead of taking him to OU. I'm critical of this kid because he can do so much more than being a 3pt princess - in defending, fighting, etc. Plus, he canNOT dribble! Traylor has a better shot at NBA than BG. Banking on his ability to hit 3s has prevented him from developing & growing to becoming one he-- of a player, but I remain dubious for now. I totally get why he didn't get PT before.

@jayhawk-007
I do not know or understand the game well as you board rats :) That said, my eyes and gut are telling me this year's B12 POY is FRANK MASON!! Without him, we've lost earlier games that could have costed us the 11th when Ellis was being reprogrammed by Self. What Ellis learned in the last two years had to be scrapped and reprogrammed with jb's Bad Ball which is totally different. Ellis wore his frustration on his face in early conference games. Mason also shot lights out -- how many double digit games did he have? Ellis finally came through, but without Mason, the 11th would not have been possible. So, my hats off to Mason, the Iron Fist! Just my thoughts.

Fact or Fiction - Calling out Calipari • Mar 07, 2015 05:42 AM

@Lulufulu
While I share your sentiments on Cali, let's avoid character assassination based on gossip or rumor. As much as I'd like to see his FFs/NC vacated, let's not rush to condemn the man - albeit he is a cheater. Let's us, KU fans, be above this, and hope that Cali is a better man than what the article implies. That said, where there's smoke, let's watch for the fire. One thing I got out of this article for sure is Jaybate's theory on shoe cos - man, they DO rule college bb!

The reality of playing Bad or worse ball • Mar 06, 2015 08:09 AM

@DoubleDD
Based on your argument, Durant UT & Blake OU teams should have won it all. Sorry but we have to agree to disagree.

The reality of playing Bad or worse ball • Mar 06, 2015 05:22 AM

@DoubleDD
Oh I beg to differ DD. How do we explain the 1988 Manning and the Miracles? That team was not ranked high or did we expect them to win it all? That team's Heart and Will combined with a little luck did the impossible. It's that "heart vs brain" thing, and we can't overlook the "heart" of this team. My only concern is the injuries and some of our guys are worn out - ie Mason.

@Crimsonorblue22
I'm with you! Was hoping Self would rest Mason & Selden for the March run, and walk away from OU and B12 - so I can give my heart some rest. But competitive Self & players are likely to go for OU's throat as JB predicts. Oh, no ~ Watching them play will give me white hair!

Ok, here it goes. KU crawls, bites, kicks, screams, dunks and goes to FF, plus the 3s drop like rain to send soft Kentucky team home crying. And, we have our NC! As for ESPN, viewers realize their own analysis is more sensible & logical than those mouthpieces of the east/west coast. Now, Self has to make it happen! Thanks for asking Lulu.

@drgnslayr
Here here. Earlier in the season, I too yelled at Self - let them drop 3s! We also know of too many good teams with co-dependency on 3s to drop like flies in March. So yes I too am embracing NO IDENTITY for this team. That said, sure hope Self has been building some weapons for March.

What An Opportunity! • Mar 04, 2015 10:38 PM

@drgnslayr
Why not rest the starters Ellis (knee), Mason (42 mins vs WVA) and Selden (was limping with rolled ankle vs WVA), and put the bench (Mickelson, Lucas, Svi?) against OU and the B12 tourney? Get the starters fresh for the March run? By the way, any chance a coach (Self) would hold a player (Mickelson) out of games (except vs. WVA out of necessity) to reprogram the player to get ready for the March run? Opponents don't have much info or stats on him since he hadn't played. Perhaps I'm dreaming- that Mickelson will be lights out against unsuspecting teams & their footers with his blocking in March. Thoughts?

AN INSTANT CLASSIC • Mar 04, 2015 05:21 AM

@wrwlumpy
AMEN!

@KUinLA,
How about providing us some of your own insight on how we got the 11th with this team? Analytical in me would like to know because it HAS been painful, dumbfoundingly painful to watch KU play. I'd appreciate your analysis.

Frickin' ESPN • Mar 03, 2015 08:03 PM

@brooksmd , @nuleafjhawk
I have ZERO interest in listening to WOMEN analyzing MEN's SPORTS! I wrote ESPN when a woman analyst was analyzing football! Are you kidding me? What the hell does she know about playing men's sports? Has she played football? With men? My only hope is that ESPN will die out, drift away, or blow up itself.
