The flopping has hit youth ball • Apr 12, 2014 01:43 PM

@drgnslayr I know there was talk last year or the year before about if a player flops he will be talked to, if he does it again they get a warning the next is a T. That's three chances to flop and get a call against the other team.

The rule needs to be if a player flops and it is obvious then he is accessed a personal foul. If it continues its a T. The only problem would be stopping the game for another review of some kind.

But in the case when Seldon swung his elbow within a foot of Smarts face and he went down, they were already reviewing for head contact. They need to be able to wave off the elbow call and and gave Smart a PF for his faking it.

I mean what real guy likes it when someone fakes it?

Hairspray Oubre?

@Wishawk That makes me ask, when will he have to cut his hair? I know Wiggins was allowed to let his grow last fall, but cut it after the warm up games, and Young was allowed to let his grow his last two years at KU, yet Self was never a big fan of the 'Fro.

But will Kelly "hairspray" Oubre have to get his cut down a little before he joins the team?

Embiid Did The Right Thing • Apr 11, 2014 07:43 PM

I made the remark in jest, but honestly they need to stay, as you say, at least 3 years.

@nuleafjhawk

I remember being 18 and away from home with only me to hold my self responsible for the things I did.

I can't imagine being 18 or 19 even 20 years old, a couple million in the bank, hanging around 25 to 30 year old men traveling all around the country.

Wait let me imagine that.....oh, hummmmmm. OH! WOW!! Yikes. Cool. ouch! Cops. Yeah probably a good thing that didn't happen

Embiid Did The Right Thing • Apr 11, 2014 04:03 PM

@nuleafjhawk Or not listen to Alen Iverson for advice. Here was guy who was making millions every year, so he would fly into Denver for a game without luggage, go buy new close and leave them there and fly to the next city and do it all over again.. Lets be honest he wasn't shopping at Target or Kohls either, probably very elite places.

Athletes get drafted by a team, that owner pays them. They go buy a car, probably a dealership that the owner has his hands in, that money comes back to him. That player decides to buy a house, the neighborhood he wants the land is owned by the owner, money back in the owners pocket again.

The owners keep getting richer and the players just keep spending.

Darrin Revel has wrote some great things on players financials along with owners too. Very good stuff.

April 8-15: News Headlines • Apr 10, 2014 06:25 PM

@dylans He has proved that he is a bigger idiot that I originally had given him credit for and he has proved it too.

He says he tried to go to the NCAA and help them, but they didn't want to work with him. I wonder why?

It would be a lot easier for him to pay players, cough cough wink wink, under the table if htey were already getting paid by the school. A kid gets $3000 a month it would be hard to tell if he was getting more or not.

On that scale of $3000 a month that $750 a week. At $500 a month thats $1250 a week. There are a lot of people that work over 40 hours a week that do't make that much.

Hopefully the NCAA can find some garbage on him before they crumble.

The Press Conference w/Joel is Set • Apr 10, 2014 06:06 PM

@truehawk93 Have been thinking hard.

Hard to rhyme Oubre with anything

Ondele Oubre??? Then again I haven't heard his last name spoken so I don't know

April 8-15: News Headlines • Apr 10, 2014 04:19 PM

@nuleafjhawk > More likely we'll be saying, " I remember the two OAD's that got drafted #1 and #2 in the NBA and became the catalyst for a whole slew of OAD's coming in to lead us to 10 loss seasons. "

That brings up a question. Are you better off being in a small class of freshman OAD ie Wiggins and Embiid than in a large class like what Kentucky had when it comes to where you are drafted?

I know there is no true answer to it, 2012 KY has how many in the top 10 of the draft? But can players get lost in a large class like that over just being one or two guys?

Embiid has learned to drive, announced at his presser today when he also announced he was going pro.

If you can avoid a wreck with a lion, you can avoid a wreck with a pedestrian.
If you can avoid a wreck with an elephant, you can avoid a wreck with a car.
If you can avoid a wreck with a hyena, you can avoid a wreck with a dog.
If you can miss a lone tree in the desert, you can miss a fire hydrant.

What is a Blue Blood? • Apr 09, 2014 09:24 PM

@justanotherfan Can they get a -1 or something for years they missed the NCAA tournament.

Not that I am asking you to do this, but should probation count against them as well? What about scandals? Those should be negative factors in my minds eye.

What do we think of our OADs? • Apr 09, 2014 09:21 PM

Besides Henry, all of KU's OADs have been pretty solid kids, not attitude problems, grew why they were here.

Selby didn't make it in the league, but Henry is now except he is injured, BMac is doing well too.

Wiggins and Embiid will do well in the League and that all shows KU off pretty darn good.

No not the pizza!

Let's talk about the Domino affect if Calipari leaves Kentucky for the Lakers this summer. I mean they just resigned Mitch Kupchak, so it's not out of the realm of reality that they would do something stupid again.

OK so Cal leaves, who gets the Kentucky job? Who wants it?

What is a Blue Blood? • Apr 09, 2014 02:49 PM

@wissoxfan83 But there is no point deduction for not making the tournament. YOu are not penalized for not going, but rewarded by not going, as you can't get a low number or a zero.

If I were to do a list that way a loss in the first round would be -1 and not going would be -5.

I am not going to do the math on all of the teams, but I am sure that would change it a lot.

UCONN WINS • Apr 09, 2014 02:44 PM

@JayhawkRock78 Funny story, this spring the first meet was really cold and windy so their coach said they weren't going to compete in it. So all the distance runners met up at the school put on their uni's and sweats and ran to the track meet and sat there at watched it and ran back to the school. About 6 miles give or take a few tenths one way.

Yeah he really enjoys it and runs all the time. And on top of that he is really a great kid, a good person.

UCONN WINS • Apr 09, 2014 02:01 PM

I ran track in highschool for three years and only high jumped my senior year. No jumping coach, not good practice area really no good track meets to jump at and I got 6-2. Hurt my knew warming up for state, and I think I might have been able to win if I could have jumped pain free in my class anyway. We were in the smallest class of schools in Nebraska.

I played one year of college ball then it was no longer fun so I jumped for one year and was getting 6-6 regularly. Really enjoyed it until my knees said no more.

What is a Blue Blood? • Apr 09, 2014 01:57 PM

Thanks for sharing. Glad to see the Badgers in that elite list! It's interesting that Ohio State is not in that list. They've had some pretty good success in the tourney it seems.

@wissoxfan83 Not really. Since 2000 they went out in the second round in 2000, 2001 and 2002. They missed the tournament until 2006 and a second rnd exit.
2007 lost to Florida for the national title.
2008 no show
2009 lost to Siena in first rnd.
2010 third rnd loss
2011 third rnd loss
2012 lost to KU!!!! Final 4
2013 Lost Elite 8 to WSU
2014 Knocked out in the round of 64 teams

@JayHawkFanToo that's a nice ride

All those named dunks make me laugh cause I don't think he ever thought about them until he was asked what he called them and just rattled off what was on his mind.

It also reminds me when Rick Mahon was traded to the Sixers. Charles Barkley got called for a foul not sure on who not who the line was directed at the player or the ref, but Mahorn says, "if you pay the fine I'll take him out." The ref instantly Td them both up. They just laughed.

@JayhawkRock78 My wife is a Husker fan, football volleyball but it's funny how I am getting her to pay a little attention to KU basketball. I mean it's taken 16 years three kids, two of which are KU fans, (I had to give her one) the other is momma's girl. My neighbors are all die hard Husker fans and it drives me nuts cause when there is a football party I will go so I can drink BS and eat good food so then they say Im a closet Husker fan.

No way!! No chance!!

Where Does WSU Go From Here? • Apr 08, 2014 07:33 PM

Or does anyone care one way or the other?

@nuleafjhawk

Well no not really, but in the overall landscape of college basketball one has to wonder what's next for them.

What conference would they join? I'm not sure.
If Marshall leaves, I think they are a middle of the road team for many more years to come.
He does have a decent recruiting class coming in and a few players staying so they should be decent again next year.

I could see them being a Butler like team, hot for a few years, coach gets a bigger job and pooof, they are no longer on the map of mattering much anymore.

@JayhawkRock78 I've been to the Field House once. It was Bill Self's first year and it was against a Baylor team that had maybe two scholarship players on it after the Dave Bliss issues.

It was and is my Graceland. I got to go. If I ever get to go back for a game it will be icing on the cake. I'd like to take my kids there, let them have that experience as well.

I do want to walk through the Booth HOF, as it was being built when I went, there were a few parts of it open but not much.

As a past KU player told me once, "It's a dump, but it is legendary, it's a game changer. It is KU." He was referring to the old locker rooms, the concourses, the ceilings and even the bathrooms. But like he said it is legendary and will give you goosebumps just walking into the place.

I have been to Wrigley field, the Old Boston Garden and to Candlestick park even Lambeau field . The garden made the hairs my neck stand up and the floor wasn't even down, it was just the concrete slab, but the banners, the history....Lambeau was cool too, no game just a tour. Wrigley was awesome they were playing the Cards, it was a very intense crowd. Big Mac vs Sosa. Went to Candlestick the night they honored Bonds for his 400 HRs and 400 Stolen bases, his dad, Willie Mays and a few others were there in attendance. I was on the field for BP that night, they played the Dodgers another great rivalry.

But still AFH is my Graceland.

Over the history of the NCAA blue bloods would include:

UCLA, Indiana, Kansas, UNC, Kentucky, Michigan St., Duke, Syracuse, Arizona, Louiville or UConn.

I put Arizona on the list and maybe they are maybe they aren't, Lute Olsen sure tried to put them on the list. UCLA, their dominance in the 60s-70's says enough. Indiana was always relevant when Knight was there and they are the last team to go undefeated for a full season and win it all. Kansas UNC and Kentucky are all on the same level excluding titles. They have all done great things in the history of the game. Michigan St. has been a team known for Magic and Izzo, Duke has only been relevant since Coach K got there. Syracuse maybe they are in the same boat as Arizona???

I guess you could add NCState there too at the end, they were a team to be recond with in the 70's and how can anyone discount the impact Jimmy Valvano had on the game, not just him running around looking to hug someone, but his coaching and his personal legacy.
