@Kong No no no. I did NOT say that. I was quoting another. Lol
@Hawk8086 curtesy I guess.
seems like they always tell a defender to back up even on the baselines. Or wave their hands I front of the inbounded to make sure there's space and to go verticals.
@Hawk8086 not sure how you'd call it and on what terms. "Cause I said so" won't hold up.
Now if Frank makes ℅ txt with him or the ball while crossing the line the whistle should blow and its usually a T for interference.
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm sorry you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave.
@Hawk8086 I know when I officiated games it depends on the gyms. How much space there is. On open ended gyms a player that is in bounding only can step back so far as well.
So with the sideline at AFH having the scorers table so close to it they have to advise the defender to step back for space at the beginning of the play.
That's my interpolation anyway
I played in a few gyms when we'd inbounds I front of the opposing fans when you went to run into the floor they'd try and trip you or pull on your shorts.
Actually saw a ref get tripped by a fan as he was back peddling down te court. They couldn't prove it was on purpose. But found out after the game it was their coaches wife that did it. Lol

Is this the crazy train thread?
We've all been waiting for you to board.
What took you so long?
@jayballer54 and @crimsonorblue22 which of you lived closer to the Colorado border? Lmao
@jayballer54 Let's put those wings on the smoker for about an hour slowly saucing them.
Then get the flame going and char the sauce on em.
Gives us a chance to sit around and drink a few and talk before we dive right into the food.
Oh yeah my neighbor and O have done a few smoking comps. Love BBQ.
@approxinfinity I'll just take a Budweiser
@jayballer54 cmon man don't you know once we are in season all we get to talk about is the next game. Last season. Second guess coaching decisions. Complain we won. Which players should or should not be playing. Other programs and how great their players are compared to ours. Stats. Advanced stats.
If I missed anything please add to it.
I like your attempt. But I'm afraid it's futile with the outbreak of rabbies in this fan base.
@jayballer54 there's a special place in He!! For guys like you.
Don't worry we will be neighbors. Lol
Yeah we can all get along
The real question becomes are they nominated for this honor because they are that good or that Duke, MSU, and Kentucky have already signed them?
Yes I know it can go hand in hand.
BUT the reason I say this I always find it funny with football recruits as a junior they might be a three star recruit. Maybe a few smaller schools are after them say , Oklahoma State, Bosie st and such. The. Their senior year Alabama starts recruiting them along with Texas. Kid is putting up same numbers as a junior but is now a 5 star recruit because Nick Saban is recruiting him.
@wrwlumpy Alex I'll Take Perry Ellis on the block for $1000 please.
@cragarhawk Jayhawk Brother I'd be there to help but I have a feeling the commute would kill me.
Sorry.
Feel your frustration.
Can't believe the HS coach hasn't stepped in somewhere and said, " Hey this is what I'm looking for when these kids get to highschool." ??
Maybe I'm off in my thinking but you'd think he'd want them knowing different concepts of the game, fundamentals and so on so he doesn't have to teach them and can start coaching them into te program right away.
@slimshaddy73 Keep this up and you won't be able to post from this account either man!!!
Kidding.
Or am I?
@Crimsonorblue22 What is this team ball you speak off?
@Kcmatt7 Cmon coach are you serious about the NC2 A's? Of course I want to get there. What kid doesn't? It's where stars are born and legends are made.
I've spoke to Ben Simmons down at LSU and even after their win against Kentucky, if they don't start winning more games he may not be able to showcase his skills in the tournament. Heck if he gets there he could go on a Kimba Walker run.
@DanR I watched Wiggins play at WV a few years back and remember him just taking over the KU offense, why didn't he do that more that season? Do you think Kelly Ombre would have been better suited had he stayed one more your or was he ready for the league?
@drgnslayr I'd really like to get down there for my visit for one of your home games, hopefully a Saturday so dad doesn't have to miss work and we can really spend the day there. Would like to get to know the guys, it is important to me that I get along with them on the court but more so off the court. My teammates now are my closest friends and we do everything together, movies, dinners, just hang out and talk as well. Be it life or basketball.
I want to to win, be a part of a winner. My goal is to win our State championship this year, but to do that we need to concentrate as a team at the game on hand and knowing our opponents for districts to make state automatically and not on some wildcard shot.
As for my personal goals after high school, I want to play on a winning team and program. I want to play, coach, I want to be that freshman of the year at what ever conference I go and play in. I want to have my teammates be able to see they can trust me and let me help them get to the promised land. I want to cut down the nets in every tournament we play in. I want to walk off the court a winner coach, and not just a foot note in the history of the team.
I want to play in the NBA, I want to have a career that when I'm done playing I won't need to work for someone else like my dad does now. I'm a fighter coach. I will fight for everything that I want just to succeed. I play with passion, I play with my emotions on my sleeve. I want people to know when I'm mad, and when I'm having a good time. I have to do my late mom proud and let my dad retire. I don't have siblings, I have teammates, and when these guys are no longer close to me I need a family atmosphere to be around.
I see that at KU, I also see it at other schools too.
You have a rabid fan base, I think that's great with the students camping out and all. Not sure how I feel about some of the things I read and hear on the radio from the fans though. The internet is a very easy way of finding information about schools, fans and coaches.
Speaking of coaches, any rumors that in a year or two you could take over at the Spurs for Pops?
I mean I don't want to sign up to play for you and Kansas and then find out you are headed to the NBA yourself.
@drgnslayr and @VailHawk
Coach, I have to ask you how you pick your starting 5 or who comes of the bench and playing time.
Do you go with what guys have done for you in the past? What ones potential will be? From what happens at practice? If I miss a contested three early in the game am I on the bench? What is it going to take for me to get back out on the floor? Or do I get enough rope to see what I do the next 5 times up and down the floor? Do you use stats to pick your starting 5? I have read some teams use advanced analytical stats, do you? My dad says the Coach Wooden would have laughed them out of the gym and that Coach Popovich is doing that now. Why are they making such huge waves in basketball right now and what are your thoughts on them?
What in your opinion is the best thing and worst thing about the one and done rule? No I'm not a Lebron or Garnett guy who could make the leap right away, not saying that, just wondering about your thoughts on it.
What past players that you have coached would you say that would give me the best insight to your coaching?
@drgnslayr Thanks coach for your honesty.
Yes coach Roberts sat down with me and my family and answered a lot of questions at the time and showed us some things about Kansas that were very insightful. Love the new dorms, but I want more than an in house basketball court.
My dad knows through channels #10's old national team coach. As a young kid they even thought he would be at Kansas one year. If he is still there next fall along with #14 that really puts me behind the 8 ball on the depth chart. I am not trying to sound overly confident, I know there is awakes someone better, but I think my defense and strength of being able to get to the rim might or should put me ahead of them for playing time. I am hopeful that I can get into summer workouts right away and compete with them and well yes take their spots.
Is this even a possibility?
I want to win. I want to win every game I play in. Be it an all-star game or a title game. I was crushed last year when we got be in the state semi's by a team that we should have beaten by 10 or more. Buzzer beaters are hard to live with, because you can always second guess every play you made or shot you missed.
After sitting in Allen Field House at the age of 13 during Midnight Madness and seeing the fans just go crazy over basically an open practice I can see how much they enjoy winning too, and would really like to contribute not only to your current streak of conference titles, but to bring you another National title.
What I've seen happen in the Big12 since Kansas and Self have started this streak is schools want to be the ones the knock KU off the mountain top. They want to be the school at the end of the year that had their arms wide open yelling "Top of the world mom!"
So they've all went out and hired quality coaches and have paid them all nicely in doing so. I mean WV has an incentive for Huggy just to beat Self I. The regular season?
With better head coaches at the schools along comes better recruiting and better players. Making games a lot harder to win night in and night out.
Texas proved if you aren't going to be competitive vs Self they will get another guy to take your place. I think that OKie state is probably the next to do so with replacing Ford.
No days off for the Kings of the hill.
@Kong I believe coach Self will NOT let them have a mind set of over looking Tech.
@VailHawk First Thank you for your comment.
Secondly my dad also met Bo years ago after he (my dad) was doing playing hoops in Europe.
He wanted to go from our balanced offense and make it more of a defensive game. We had a lot of returning starters going into my Junior year and he decided he was going to put his system into place no matter what it did to the team that made the semi finals of state the year before. He had no history with any of our players, didn't talk to any of us abut the changes he was making, either about the playbook or personnel. I decided I would just concentrate on basketball at that point.
@VailHawk No I have never heard of it. I will have to check it out. Blog? Fan site? I have looked at Jayhawk slant, and follow players on Twitter from all schools.
Can't believe what some of these games say to guys on Twitter. Might get rid of mine when I go to college. Distractions.
My dad and I have the box set of all the 30 for 30s on DVD. That's a good one. The Bo Jackson one is my dads favorite one.
Speaking of Bo Hackson I played WR for two years in HS before our coach left and I didn't like the new guy.
I have magazines writing that I could be in the NBA within a year. Not sure that's me. I've stayed at the same Highschool my whole career, because I like my teammates and coaches.
I want to be able to play as a freshman, I feel that my upside is huge, so playing right away is something that interest me.
I usually draw the opponents best player on D and I love the challenge of guarding him. I want that challenge. On offense I can stroke away from the arc, but yet finish strong off the drive as well. I'd like to be able to post my man up on the block better.
Current NBA player would be Dwayne Wade, a guy who will do what it takes for his team to win. If it's score 40 or jump into the fans to save the ball. Of players of all time, I'd Say Charles Barkley, I like to go after the big guys and out rebound them.
We play man to man and press a lot. Have played some 1-3-1 and I usually play the baseline being able to close out and cover lots of ground.
Offense is usually a motion or flex. We do run some set plays on out of bounds, either back door cuts or screen for a three. We have also ran the Princeton offense to really throw D's for a loop.
@drgnslayr Well put!!!
I noticed Perry in the OU game when he was on the right block that when he spun and the shot did or didn't fall and there was contact he looked at the baseline ref a lot, like, "what do I have to do to get a call here?"
He too seems to get jobbed due to his size, or lack there off.
Announcers are always funny, when they say if it's a foul you have to call it, or if it was found in the first 5 mins of a game it was a foul the last 5 mins of the game. Yet it's only when it's about a player they are backing that game.
Was Landen's foul at the end of regulation called correctly? Yes it was only because the decapitating of Frank (perhaps a little over the top there by me) wasn't called 1 or 2 seconds earlier, since the refs wanted to let the game play out and not be the cause of a team winning or losing.
This will be a fun little exercise for all the pundits out there that believe they have ALL the answers for Kansas basketball.
Please recruit me, what's your sales pitch?
Lets say for the sake of this lilt game, that I'm a 6'7" 230lb shooting guard. Ranked #12 over all and the #2 at my position. I was the gatorade player of the year in my state as a junior and likely will repeat that as my senior year I am avg. 22.7pts a game with 8 rebs, and 3.4 ast. There are rumors I will be on the McDonalds all American team this summer as well.
I have offers from Duke, UNC, Texas with Kentucky and Arizona still calling me as my stock still seems to be rising.
What offense do you run? Defense? What will my playing time be like? Do I get to start as a freshman right away? I mean I want to play and play a lot as I will probably be there one year, possibly 2 if I don't think I will be a lottery pick after one year.
Feel free to ask me any questions and tell me how your coaching style will sway me to your school.
We are now closer to the Texas Tech game than we are from the win we got on Monday night.
Reading the post out there including this one about the divide, who should play more, upside, ceilings, floors, why it went into OT or three, who played well who didn't, the refs, the announcers, I have come to the conclusion of this.
Kansas fans are spoiled little brats.
One loss to the team that became number 1.
A huge win over the #1/#2 team.
Beating a team with possibly the POY of all of college basketball.
Yet there is unrest and anger about the winning. I made the resolution this year, and even posted it on this site that I was going to be more of a fan this year and less of a fanatic. Enjoy the season and the games and not get to a boiling point over ever possession that doesn't result in a score for KU or a TO for the other team.
So I stand by my statement that KU fans are spoiled. Being ranked #1 isn't good enough. Winning a tough fought game isn't good enough.
Here's a news flash, you can't win a National Title unless you win games to get into the tournament to begin with. The more games you win in the season and against really good opponents, the better seed you get is said tournament. The better seed, the easier road to that National Title.
Lose those games early and often and then you are forced to win your conference tournament to get in. That will lower your seed in the big dance pitting you up against tougher teams earlier and more often in the tournament.
See you gotta win now, the next game. You can't look ahead to March now, you have to look at Saturdays game right now. Then come Sunday you have to Look at Tuesday nights game, not who KU will match up in the round of 32.
OK and since someone will surely say I'm a Bill Self apologist for this post, hey I get it, he's not perfect, nor is any player, ref, fan, announcer, game, band member or anyone or anything else. Being wrong makes us human by nature.

All I can think of is that the refs think he's so short that everyone should block him. I wish we would do something different at the end of the shot clock!
Just as long as he doesn't flop or flail his arms like a sniper took him out from 400 yards.
Has anyone else seen the Sports Center commercial where Coach K is sitting in a room with Duke paraphernalia hanging around or in cases with his two ( what I assume are his grandsons)?
You know the one where they have ESPN on the TV and you hear how great Justice Winslow is playing?
The one where Coach K ask his grandson to text Mr. Winslow and tell him how great he is playing?
How is this legal through the eyes of the NCAA and all their rules? There must be a loophole that allows coaches to appear in ESPN commercials wearing and promoting their school and past players??
@Crimsonorblue22 probably made some egregious call that set Hurley off.
Wonder if coach K reached out to Mr Higgins about his actions? Lol
@Crimsonorblue22 Did he T up Hurley in the ASU game or was that a partner of his?
I'd like to see how he scored out on each game along with what other fan bases think of him?
Pretty sure OU isn't really happy with him either.

Dude you've maxed out your posting limit for the free site.
You must pay a high yearly fee to be able to post like @jaybate-1.0 and @HighEliteMajor.
Just kidding man. I have no idea. Just thought I'd have some fun today.
@justanotherfan those three all have to either catch said ball or hold on to it though before they are offensive threats.
Quick poll.
Which crowd/fan base will chant "overrated" the earlier in the next two games?
Saying if they get a lead somewhere in the games.
OK I was getting very very worried that the triple OT game sent @HighEliteMajor major to the ICU of his local hospital. That is until I looked and say the he did post twice yesterday in response to other post.
But yet I'm still concerned, perhaps he broke his keyboard in his post game analysis from typing too fast and hard? Plus his post from yesterday were short.
Maybe he's on vacation and has limited internet reception.
Oh wait, remember last week when he made his wife wait to go out and eat? I saw the movie Misery, perhaps his wife went a little rough on him?
Just worried about you @HighEliteMajor just want to make sure you are doing alright in health and freedom and with that win Monday night.
Perhaps you haven't finished your analysis yet?
Why? Some of you are probably asking why I'm concerned about @HighEliteMajor as we tend to not be the best of comrades on here. But hey he is still a Jayhawk Brother.
Here's to you HEM, Rock Chalk Jayhawk
@BeddieKU23 The WV game bothers me.
Sure KU can win it, but I thought that two years ago and only Wiggins stepped off the plane to play.
So hopefully this team stays focused for the next 7 days. Get some rest and relaxation and healing as well on these road trips.
WV might have the best home court advantage in the conference, due to the travel by other teams. Yes it works against them when they travel west as well. But on a short turn around like what KU will be dealing with WV definitely had a huge advantage.
@jaybate-1.0 spoke with the head of officials for Nebraska highschool basketball years back. We got to talking about calls on non-calls. Said it wasn't like football where you can pick up the flag and wave it off. In basketball once the whistle blows you have to make a call.
He continued talk about the worst thing an official could do is anticipate a call. Be it a block or charge or a reach in. He said when you do that you have lost the ability to let it play out. But a lot of guys do.
He ref fed a HS game of Eric Stricklamd who went on to Iowa and the NBA for years. Stricklamd got a steal at half court, dribbled to the rim from the right side. Their pg was maybe 5-10. Strickland took off right I front of this kid. He said he thought for sure Stricklamd was going to take him out so he blew his whistle and began to signal charge when he looked and saw him go higher and higher not touching the opponent and dunking. Usually the ref blows the whistle and half the fans base is happy. He said in this moment the whole crowd was booing him.
Stricklamd went up to him and told him not to have a make up call it would be to obvious and walked away with a smile.
Would actually like to sit with him and watch a game now a days. See what he thinks of guys.
@KUSTEVE said:
WE WON !! Let’s take a day and wave the KU banner, and enjoy it!
Amen Jayhawk Brother
@globaljaybird each team usually submits a video to the big12 with calls that they think are unexplainable. Then each official is graded out again. This can affect what games they do or if they are suspended any.
The problem is if any of them are suspended I'm sure they will get KU down the road and that won't be good either.
@RockkChalkk who goes in the game and does a better job of rebounding?
Doesn't drop easy passes?
Plays solid D?
You bring up the missed dunk on a soft foul. That happens to a lot of guys.
Why aren't you burying Frank Mason? His shooting wasn't that great. Mason made big FTs in OT. HMMM. So did Lucas.
Why aren't you bagging on Selden? His fouls and T sat him on the bench to long. But he made a dunk in traffic.
Why not tear Elliis's game apart?? How many times did he miss on the block through contact? But he hit that three late.
Devonte. What a to machine in the first half. Why did he play in the second?
Make fun of those all you want. But that's what you sound like when it comes to Lucas.
There were runs both by KU and OU no matter who we had in the game.
Sometimes OU play to your strengths and use what's working. That's what Self and Co did last night.
If Bragg and Diallo play I. The second half what Lucas does how bad does KU lose by due to their bad turnovers, shot selections and bad fouls that don't need to be made??
@RockkChalkk I have mixed feeling on it. If you foul and the guy with ball takes a heave at the rim who knows?
Do they get 3 FTs?
Does the Hail Mary go in plus one?
Probably would have put a little more pressure on the ball to eat up clock and make them work to get up court. Just can't get burned. No one can leave their guy to help though either.
If you foul away from the ball is it called flagrant? Two FTs and the ball back at half court and who knows how much time is left to get that shot off?
If it's a two shot foul you have to make sure to block out on the second ft and not get sucked in by the rim. A rebound and quick put back tied the game too, what happens if they call a foul on the put back or rebound?
There are too many variables Ryan just yes or no on this one. I think that's a reason a lot of older coaches play it straight up a lot of the time.
Perry Ellis poking the ball away from Spangler as he was lining up for a three from straight away.
Sure the ball went towards Heild and made me hold my collective breath.
But no easy ones!
Perry came up big on that play.
@RockChalkinTexas Three blind mice! See how they run! Three blind mice I said!!!"
@BeddieKU23 said:
And our fans, the one’s that were left gave him a standing ovation. Name another fan-base that will do that for a kid on the other team. Not ISU, Not KSU…KU is all class even its fans, although sometimes we all have our moments.
Cause those fan bases would have been on the floor shoving the OU players or breaking legs of reporters as the celebrated the victory.
@wissoxfan83 yes in other areanas those fans probably would have been waving and acting the fool in the background.
These fans sat there and listened to him answer the questions. I respected his game, and after hearing him take the blame for the loss on his TOs and giving credit to Kansas and his own teammates I respect Heild even more so.
Another key moment and it sounds sarcastic but after Heild took the final shot almost all the Jayhawks in the floor went after the rebound.
Not allowing another attempt if there would have been any chance of one.
In 9 conference football games KU scored a 108 points combined. Last night the basketball team scored 109.
@Jyhwk_InTigrtwn Mason had a rough night with the refs and this is coming from a guy who made a resolution not to blame them.
The first half strip was all ball. Self falling on the grenade technical so Frank wouldn't get one. Then late in the second half he played Heild straight up and as Heild went up for the shot Frsnk called again and got all ball.
Then his drive at the end of regulation getting closed lined, illegal in football legal in basketball as a no call. Funny how the tv talking heads said they had to call the foul on Lucas but they don't mention what happened to Frank. Well SVP did on SC last night.
Then after the game the Buddy Heild POy media wagon goes after Frank saying he didn't give the three feet and taking away a great defensive play on his part.
Team leadership. From Selden and Frank taking big shots. To Perry who kept going up time after time in the paint against their bigs.
Perry doesn't complain a lot about fouls but he looked at the officials a lot as to why there was no whistle.
Let's not forget leadership by Jamari and LL. Hitting the floor time after time, even though Vitale gave the credit to the OU player for keeping the ball alive when in all reality he got more of Lamdons head than ball.
A side note about Jamari. He was in the bench in the second half and he was standing up and he was pointing out to Bragg where to go on D. He was coaching the you gets from the bench. That's leadership that isn't quantifiable by stats.
Bruised team doesn't need to lean on just one guy to be its leader. Devonte leads in when Frank can't and so on. There are 5 or 6 guys who could be leaders for this team on any given night. They take ownership in this team.
I was impressed overall with the fortitude of this team as a team than just one guys performance.
Self telling Raferty their (Baylor) best offense in the first half was us putting hands on them. Sending them to the line.
