Huge storm just about over KC with the worst of it on the north side by the airport. We are expecting the southern portion to be over Olathe in the next 20-30 minutes.

@Crimsonorblue22

Extremely dark and windy and the storm should be here in the next 30 minutes...keeping fingers crossed.

@wissox

It appears to be more the KC Star than Mellinger since he has written OK stories about KU in the past. Missourians feel the need to bring down KU since the MU sports programs are one gigantic dumpster fire.

I agree, having them as an 8 or 9 seed seems like they would be grossly under-seeded, which is not new to them.

Kim Anderson already out at fizzou • Mar 06, 2017 11:58 PM

@justanotherfan

Basketball fans in KC heavily support KU; however, it has not really been successful recruiting the KC area, partly because of the perceived rift between KU and the local AAU teams. Releford and Rush are the only two recruit from the KC are a that I can think.

Kim Anderson already out at fizzou • Mar 06, 2017 05:44 PM

@drgnslayr

Agreed. Many other high profile jobs will be available such as North Carolina State and maybe Washington or even Indiana; all much better destinations than MU. At this point I would think that Larry Drew would be the leading candidate.

B12 tourney... weigh in • Mar 06, 2017 04:55 PM

@BeddieKU23

Keep in mind that the winner is the automatic conference qualifier. If KSU, TCU, Tech, OU or even Texas pulls a miracle and wins...they would be in.

Kim Anderson already out at fizzou • Mar 06, 2017 04:51 PM

@drgnslayr

Both KU and KSU have more fans/followers in the KC metro area than MU. A lot of unhappy people when MU left the Big 12.

Apparently the program was in considerably worse shape than it was reported and resulted in players leaving the program right and left. Haith really did a number with the program...MU probably has grounds to sue his a$$ off but then, they knew what they were getting into with him.

B12 tourney... weigh in • Mar 06, 2017 04:41 PM

@Bosthawk

If KSU, Tech or TCU advance all the way it would certainly insure at least on and probably 2 more conference teams making it to the dance. Is it possible? Yes. Is it probable? Most likely not.

Contender or Pretender? • Mar 06, 2017 04:36 PM

@Blown

The 4-1 is not something Frankamp saw.

Contender or Pretender? • Mar 06, 2017 04:34 PM

@drgnslayr

Don't underestimate the Shockers. I know is popular here to bash Marshall but there is no question he is a very good coach and good at getting the best of his players. If KU plays WSU, I believe KU would win but it would not be an easy game by any means. WSU is a dangerous and motivated team.

@dylans

Dave DeBusschere also played both sports and is in the list of top 50 all time great basketball players; he was perhaps the best player during the Knicks glory days but you might be too young to have seen him play. Chuck Connors of "Rifleman" fame also played both sport but again, it was probably before your time.

Time to get to the office, anyway, where I have a third monitor dedicated to this forum that I can check while I do actual work.😄

Non-KU games • Mar 06, 2017 04:12 PM

@dylans

The "official" story and what actually happens are often not the same. The story, as reported, provided an easy out for both parties to part ways. You can draw your own conclusions.

Flakes versus Assassins • Mar 06, 2017 04:06 PM

@dylans

Thanks. I do have a couple of external keyboards but I mostly use the iPad when sitting on a recliner or in bed so an external keyboard is not an option. For real work I use what i call real computer with separate keyboard and mouse and, other than portability, no tablet can beat this setup.

Non-KU games • Mar 06, 2017 03:59 PM

@dylans

Frankamp did not leave KU because he was afraid of the competition, he was asked to leave because of off the court issues; the kid deserves some privacy so I will just leave it at that.

@mayjay

Collins certainly has the Duke pedigree but with a 0.551 4-year/lifetime record at NW, I am not sure he has the gravitas to replace Coach K. Once upon a time KU took a huge chance with a young coach ant it worked out pretty dadgum well.

@HighEliteMajor

Mason had to transition from the volume scorer he was in Hs to a true college PG. Once he completed the transition he became a complete multidimensional and steady player and arguably the best PG ever at KU.

@ralster

The KC TV stations are reporting that Cuonzo Martin, Lorenzo Romar, Tom Crean and Larry Drew are the potential candidates. They also reported that Anderson admitted that when he took over the program it was in a lot worse shape than reported; they said that the program has now been cleaned up but still needs a full rebuild.

Capel thinks he will get the Duke job when Coach rat face retires (I don't) so he is it going to wait, Marshall is one of the top 10 paid coaches and would be a candidate for much better openings than MU and I don't believe Coach Dooley would take that dumpster fire of a job.

Go Frank • Mar 06, 2017 06:27 AM

@approxinfinity

Mason is now being projected to be selected in the first round, CBS has him as #21... ↗

@drgnslayr

You are correct. As I mentioned before, Mason has had games when his shot was not falling but he was still able to control tempo, drive and score, dish assists and rebound; he is a multidimensional player and not a one trick pony and this is why he is the leading candidate for POY. Yes, he might have an off game when part of his game is not clicking but Senior Frank Mason has been so far the poster boy for consistency so, short of a sesssion ending injury, I am not worried about Mason going on a multi game slump.

Kim Anderson already out at fizzou • Mar 06, 2017 05:37 AM

@blackmild33

According to the latest news on the KC area TV stations, the candidates are Counzo Martin, Lorenzo Romar, Tom Crean and Larry Drew...all, except Crean, big underachievers and all 3 college coaches currently at programs that will not make the big dance. Drew has a below average HC record in the NBA with Atlanta and Milwaukee where he lasted only one year. Frankly, I don't think Crean or Martin would consider MU. Romar probably gets one extra year so it doesn't loose the incoming recruits.

Who would really want coach at MU anyway?

Non-KU games • Mar 06, 2017 12:57 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

A good 2-4 year stint at a solid mid-major could be the springboard to a bigger program.

Non-KU games • Mar 05, 2017 11:59 PM

@BShark

To be fair, it is not like Frankamp quit but more like it was politely "suggested" to him that he might be better off somewhere else. Likely the same scenario with Greene although I could be wrong about him.

@DoubleDD

I agree. Huggins brought recognition to the program but Martin brought real success. KSU should have taken Underwood when he was available, now they will have problems getting a name coach to Manhattan..

@BShark

The Star and Weber can't help themselves. Even in an article about Weber there are lots of digs at KU, both from Weber and the Star's Mellinger. Weber's are pure jealousy of Self and Mellinger's the current Star's SOP.

GRAYSON ALLEN IS A DIRTY PLAYER • Mar 05, 2017 08:39 PM

@Blown

I have to say that there is no evidence to prove that either Vick or Jackson "like" kicking anything other than opponent's butts on the basketball court...and they do the later very well. In fact, there is no evidence that I know that Vick kicked anyone; it that had in fact happened, I would have been a very serious offense and charges likely filed. This sound like the "Bragg threw me down the stairs" story when in fact he was protecting himself and she fell back on the stairs going down all of 18 inches and, unless the laws of gravity work differently in Lawrence, she did no fall any further than that.

We pretty much know that Jackson did kick the door and tail light but I will guess that he probably did not "like" it, and based on the consequences of that act, unlikely he will ever do it again.

8 Years of Frank • Mar 05, 2017 07:58 PM

@KansasComet

To me work ethic includes doing all the things that make you better at what you do. In Sherron's case it would involve diet discipline, which by his own admission he could not do. No question genes worked against him, but It is not unique to him; many other players with similar tendencies were and are able to control their weight and have long careers in the NBA.

@jaybate-1.0

You are good at offering opinion as fact. How about you show some actual links and numbers to support your claim.

Tayshawn shot 0.382 from the 3 for the season and a slightly better 0.398 during conference. Note that the year before he shot 0.380 for the year while shooting 0.409 during conference. KU and Mason have the most games of any team against top 10, top 25 and top 50 teams so he has seen some of the tougher defenses and he has done just fine.

All players have off games where part of their game does not click. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, arguably two of the better 3 point shooters ever, combined for 3 of 22 from 3 a couple of days ago...does this mean they will continue shooting at the same rate? Absolutely not. Chances are they will go back to shooting their usual average.

Mason has already had well below average shooting games but he bounced right back. There is ZERO evidence or reason to think he will go on a long slump. Yes, he might have a poor shooting gamve from the 3 but he will continue driving and scoring, dishing assists and rebounding like he always does, and again, you have provided nothing to prove otherwise.

@approxinfinity

???

@jaybate-1.0

Now, I am curious. Please tell what stats for Tayshwan "who fell precipitously from dizzying heights for him his last season." are you talking about? I seem to recall that Tayshawn's las season at KU was his best.

As far as Mason, you have your statistics wrong because you are comparing apples with oranges...Senior Mason>>>Junior Mason>>>Sophomore Mason>>>Freshman Mason. You are assuming, incorrectly, that this year's Mason is the same as last or previous year's Mason...obviously he is not, he is much improved in all aspects of his game, including shooting, and this is why he is the leader for POY.

GRAYSON ALLEN IS A DIRTY PLAYER • Mar 05, 2017 06:02 PM

@Ralph

You are joking, right? Bobby Riggs was a an old, retired player playing for kicks and giggles while Billie Jean King was one of the top 2 or 3 female players in the world at that time. Remember that Bobby Riggs beat Margaret Court before that, who was at the time the top ranked female tennis player in the world, if I remember correctly.

As far as the William sisters, it has been done and it was not even close...a German player not even ranked in the top 200 beat both sisters back to back... ↗ and that was after playing a round of golf in the morning and having a big lunch with several beers.

8 Years of Frank • Mar 05, 2017 05:47 PM

@ralster

Sherron with that work ethic would be playing in the NBA.

@Texas-Hawk-10

I respectfully disagree. By the time Embiid signed with KU people like "foreign player expert" and KU fans favorite punch bag Fran Fraschilla called him the best player out of HS. Pitino commented that KU had gotten the biggest steal of the class and this is before the final ranking came out. Embiid committed to KU in November 2012 and the final rankings came out months after that.

GRAYSON ALLEN IS A DIRTY PLAYER • Mar 05, 2017 05:32 PM

@jaybate-1.0

Serena could beat other female players but she is no match for a male athlete, not even in tennis.

Remember Chyna, the female wrestler that was built like a tank? She was handily defeated by one old and out of shape Joey Buttafuoco of the "Long Island Lolita" fame.

@jaybate-1.0

Embiid was the #6 ranked player out of HS. ↗

Flakes versus Assassins • Mar 05, 2017 05:08 PM

@ralster

Better than Selby in 2012 would have been Ben McLemore who had to sit out the season, with him KU probably beats UK.

Apparently her poor play started long before the incident and it got worse in conference play. Perhaps her ongoing relationship with Vick had something to do with this but her coach would be crazy to give her more playing time considering when you look at her stats.

Also, only part of the damage (door, tail light) was caused by Jackson but apparently the windshield was also smashed among other damage and yet nothing has been made of who the other party or parties involved were. More interesting is why battery charges were not filed against her when by her own admission she threw a drink in the face of Vick and apparently is documented in the police report?

Likely we will not know the entire story any time soon or until Vick leaves KU anyway...perhaps this is the best outcome.
