Me too, but not at KU...just not worth the risk...
Unfortunately, Larry seems to bend the rules everywhere he has coached. UCLA, KU and now SMU all got probation..and we just recently learned that KU came close to getting the death penalty...
I like Brown as a coach but frankly, I would not want him back at KU...
I have been pondering the same thing...where does that 3 feet rule come from? Is it a new one? Is there even a rule that says so? Inquiring minds want to know... :)
As the younger generation would say....not cool dude, not cool at all...
You are right, being drafted in the First Round does not "guarantee" success but it is decent indicator of potential success, in other words, the odds would be in his favor rather than the other way around.
Putting down other poster's opinions while stating yours as fact does not show civility. I will not get into a poop argument with you...I will defer to your expertise in the subject.
Please enlighten us on what numbers tell us that Hield will not be successful in the NBA? Most every draft projection has Hield as a first round pick and the more recent ones have him as a lottery pick, I would think these numbers are the opposite or the numbers you used for you analysis...
I am not saying that Hield will be a star in the NBA but the numbers appear to indicate that he should do well in the League...after the last game I believe it.
P.S, A little civility still goes a long way, in this forum and in life in general.
You are right, we probably don't have '88... but we might have 3 or 4 others we missed.
I believe that once it get to the Elite 8 is should be at least 2 out of 3 or 2 groups of 4 playing each other. Other than Football (pretty logistically impossible) I cannot think of another major sport where a single game decides the tittle.
KU will indeed lose at some time during conference play but it will not at Texas Tech. If I had to guess I would say in order of probability OU, WVU, ISU and KSU. There is no way in God's green earth that we lose at OSU without Forte playing for them.
Excellent point. Hield is now a senior...in his fourth year Wiggins numbers would be record setting...
I agree. Ballock, at least on paper, appears to be the improved version of Ron Baker. Whether it will end up being that way...who knows. I would have loved to have Ron Baker play at KU.
Pray tell why is my question condescending? I simply presented a situation not that dissimilar to what actually happened during the game....and more importantly, didn't he draw that fouls on Hield? it was his third foul and less than a minute later drew the fourth fourth on Woodward...just sayin'...sometimes drawing the foul and going to the line can be considerably more important.
ISU led OU most of the game at OU...the problem with ISU and OU is their short benches which will show up more towards the end of the season.,
Anthony Bennett called...he said being a great player in college does not mean you will do great or even stay in the NBA, Adam Morrison agreed.
Coach mentioned that players are passing shot just to give it to another player that is in better position...this the epitome of team play and one of the reason why KU is shooting such a high percentage from outside...they are being more selective and taking better shots. I like it.
On a given day, any team can beat any other team...this is the pet peeve I have with the single elimination approach.
At 6'-8" Wiggins can play either the 2 or the 3 while at 6'-4" Hield will play mostly the 2 where he will be somewhat undersized and maybe the 1 that he really does not play much.
At this point Wiggins, no question about it; he has already proven he can play in the NBA while Hield has proven he can play in college...so far.
That is a grand slam post!!!
Love that song. Mac Davis was a heck of a song writer...
I guess happiness was Lubbock, Texas
In my rear view mirror
But now happiness is Lubbock, Texas
Growing nearer and dearer
Good ol' boys always go back home...
Here is a link ↗to the fall...looks pretty nasty...
Coach Self: You are way over your head and I'm getting the finger?
Referee: I know, I know, I know....my mistake was this big but your are getting the finger anyway...just because I can... :D
Quick question...which one helps your teams the most...dunk the ball and get two points or draw the foul and get the same two point from the line...these are the two option, no 3 point play. option.
And the answer is...
Great Memories. UCLA had beaten UNC State earlier in the season (only loss for UNC State) and the game was a rematch Both team were loaded.
I am with you on this 100%. Hield is clearly in the lead for POY...after watching him go to work, how can anyone not be impressed...
I like Greenberg but he sees to forget that the trend in basketball is away from the 5 and more towards stretch PFs. Wisconsin might not have had a true 5 but it surely had the best stretch PF in College basketball
Hunter works best within 6 feet of the basket and when he ventures further out he is often caught trying to block a shot and fouling or out of position. OU scored 36 out of 106 point in the paint...most of the damage came from outside the paint which made Mickelson ineffective. Jamari is a much better option when you need to extend the defense out....perfect situation to play Jamari and he did play his heart out and had some timely baskets and momentum changing blocks. IMHO, perfect use of Jamari's skills by Coach Self.
Here is the fist block ↗ by Jamari; hopefully the link works.
Here is the second ↗ where he hit the ground hard
...that and Jamari's blocks...
LSU stated the season not at full strength; its #2 and #3 scorers Hornsby and Victor have played only in the last 6-7 games and since then they have lost only to Wake Forest. They will get better.
Zobrist was such a versatile player for the Royals that he will be hard to replace; he would have been the primary player I would have liked the Royals to resign.
Unless you have "perfect storm" game where everybody plays better than average, one or two players will always play better and one or two players worse than average. Overall OU played above average and KU below. Yes, Cousins had a below par game but most of the other players were above par, while KU had Mason and Mickelson play well below their averages. Overall. KU has much bigger margin of error by virtue of its deep bench while OU has a smaller margin of error because of its shallow bench. Had another OU player had a sub-par game, KU wins comfortably.
Texas Tech is 9-0 at home and their only loss is to #16 Utah, they have played 3 games at neutral locations (2-1) and have yet to play a true road game. Al their wins have been fairly comfortable and the more recent one mostly by double digits, although the competition has been relatively weak. Their best wins is no doubt the one over Texas, although I am not sure how strong Texas really is since they barely beat KSU at home yesterday
I believe the ISU game on the road will be heavy dose of reality for them. If they win at ISU then they are a contender, if they keep it close, they will be dangerous but more likley ISU wins by double digits at home.
In all fairness, he gave the standing ovation when Collison fouled out in OT and before the game was over. He has indicated that he had done it only one other time before and I am not sure he has done it again.
So...how hyped up do you think the KU-UK game will be? Maybe the MSM will guess that UK will get pasted and will choose to under -hype it and pretend is does not matter?
Regardless, I don't believe the KU-UK will come even close to this game as pure basketball spectacle at its best.
If you can't refute an argument, attack the poster...got it...
Don't forget that Jamari also had 3 blocks and the rest of the team had 2...He and Lucas really showed why they get playing time.
I don't care what anyone else thinks but Bragg went in early and for the most part he looked completely lost and so did Diallo when he played. I understand that they need on-court time to develop but last night's game was not the game for them to do so; it was a game for them to observe and learn..
The discussion was about the owner's comments and they all agreed it was silly to blame Markiff..or the "millennials" for the Sun's problems. They all indicated the problems is with team's management and not the players...or Markiff.
To paraphrase the late Jerry Tarkanian...
The refs were so upset they missed the call when the OU player whacked Mason on the head at the end or regulation that they decide to call a foul on Lucas instead...just to make themselves feel better
This is right up there with the KU-Texas OT game when Collison got the standing ovation from Vitale, the one when KU beat the Durant led Texas team after falling way behind in the first half and the last KU-MU game with the famous TRob block...
I wonder if KU can file a complain and quietly request that he does not officiate any KU games in the future....you would think that KU has enough clout to at least get him reprimanded.
Watched the game with friends and even one of them who is a big MU fan indicated that is was one of the worse refereed games he had seen, The foul call on Mason at the end of the first half was egregiously bad; Mason would have had a clear path to the basket and KU would have led at the half by 1 or 2, instead KU was give n T and OU led by 4...that is a big swing....and that was not even the worst call...oh well...
I read somewhere that Higgins was the ref in at least 5 of the previous 9 loses at AFH...makes you go hhhhmm...
The argument that a college team with the same players is the same from one year to the next is silly. The additional experience and maturity and the off season or preparation make a huge difference. Maybe in the NBA this is the case but certainly not in college where the younger players improve by leap and bounds...can you honestly tell me that the current players re not much better than they were last year? I think not.
Now to enjoy the KU win...
The Sun's owners comments are being discussed in ESPN and the reviews are not favorable at all...
Coach has to play with what he has at hand. This year's edition is quite different than last year and the players themselves in addition of having one additional year of experience, seem to also have a much better attitude and the chemistry is quite different as well. I don't believe last year's team had the skills, maturity and chemistry to play like the current team. The better Self teams had a fair number of junior s and seniors and that seeems to be the type of players that run the system the best.
TCU beating WVU 47-45 at half time, 2 starters for WVU with 3 fouls each...
You realize that even what you call poor seasons, most teams would kill for, right? Try being a UK fan losing in the first round of the NIT to Bobby Mo...now THAT is a bad season...and with a boat load of top players to boot You often mention UConn as an example of what you want KU to achieve...how many times have they missed the dance lately? Would you be happy watching other teams at the dance while yours sits at home?
If Coach Self continues coaching like he has since he has been to KU, I would be delighted, and if I ever start to think otherwise, I will cleanse my mind by reading how MU passed on him and watching a video of the UK-Robert Morris NIT game...that will set me straight in a hurry.
No need to answer. We both see it differently and I am not. saying that my view is better or worse...just different. Fair enough?
Are you suggesting that Self is not doing a great coaching job THIS season, which was the one the original post addressed?...never mind, silly question...
There is zero risk to balanced betting,. The only times that the balance is busted is when someone will come just before the deadline and place a huge, long shot bet (multi million) and there is no time to change the line to balance the money. This has has happened in the past but mostly in the fight business, i.e. boxing, and most of the time it broke in favor of the house.
Read up on Vegas betting, it is quite interesting and very secretive as the algorithms they use are proprietary and heavily protected; if you think Coke, Pepsi and KFC protect their formulas, Vegas makes them look like the proverbial pikers. When you talk about gambling, the only people gambling are the people placing the bets, the house hardly gambles at all and it is a well run and very profitable business. Most professional gamblers hedge and balance their bets and don't go for the long shots which are for the occasional/casual/spur-of-the-moment bettor and hardly ever pay off...there is a reason why they are called sucker bets... :)
I’m really curious what Self has done to free up mental space for this team’s offense, trey shooting being the case in point. His hangups with threes in the past are well documented. Quick hooks for quick triggers. Whatever he’s done to make his perimeter guys less gun-shy is paying off in spades. I love it!
Most would call it coaching?
ISU controlled the game early and well into the second half...how did it work out for them? The key is controlling the game late., when it really counts...lead or not...just sayin'
