Christian Garret, the ultimate team player...
Lots of celebrities at the Olathe location and I believe they have now one in Leawood across Town Center that probably gets most of the celebrities. Billy "Country Breakfast" Butler was frequent sight at the Olathe location.
I agree with you on Danny and because I value his opinion I posted his comments. I also thought the slide went over the line and as I posted before, sometimes you have to go old school. It will be interesting to see how the series goes in Oakland with all the "extreme" fans they share with the Raiders...
Iverson called and said...Spelling? Are we talking about spelling? As long as the info is good who cares about spelling. :)
You mean the one in Mission or the one in Olathe? Is ts called Joe's Kansas City BBQ now.
I was simply relaying what Danny Mathews, who we can all agree is a very knowledgeable analyst and one who played 2nd base in college, said. We might not agree with his comments (I am not saying I do or I don't) but no questions that you have to at least consider his opinion.
I thought Pitt had been out of it for a while and ISU's chances also went down when the coach recruiting him went to St. John's. I would say it is between KU and St. John's with a late (hopefully too late) push by UK...
Better than KC??? We might have to put that statement to a tasting test...
3-star? WOW! He really is desperate; I thought that 3-start were not allowed to wear UK unis.
How is the BBQ IQ? :) :) :)
Please keep us informed; you effort is greatly appreciated.
Coach Self system takes more than one year to master and he has indicated he had to "dumb down" the system so the younger players could be at least partially effective. The '08 and '12 team with experienced player could execute all the variation of the hi-lo and the the '08 team had the talent and won the title, the '12 team did not have nearly the talent and still made it to the finals. If Coach Self will continue to rely on inexperienced players he will have to come up with hybrid version of his system that makes the inexperienced players effective and still takes advantage of all the variation of the hi-lo; having said that, the upcoming team should have a fair amount of experience.
Ingram is to Duke what Diallo is to KU, the primary recruiting target based on need. No question that Duke will go all out to get Ingram...it sure would be nice to steal one from rat face.
Herrera pointing to the head will certainly cost him a suspension and I doubt Ventura will get one.
FWIW, Danny Mathews, who is well respected by Royals fans, was on 610 AM today and he indicated the slide was not that bad and 30 years ago nobody would have even blinked an eye about it and that typically when you slide into second it is practically impossible not to have one leg up, although Lawrie's might have been a little too high He also indicated that the beaning of Cain did not seem to be intentional. It sounded strange to hear Danny taking a stance not favorable to the Royals...maybe he has a point?
I would seriously doubt that Ollie would get a HC job in the NBA. His name was popular after UConn won the title but last season they did not even make it to the tournament and his original shine has seriously faded. Th only reason he is being considered is because his friendship with Durant (and Westbrooke) with whom he played and I personally don't think Durant would stay in OKC just because of him.
Every year there is talk about replacing Scott Brooks at OKC and it never leads to anything. He had a super tough season with all the injuries and I am not sure he had all of his starting players together for more than a handful of games and it took a tie breaker to keep OKC off the payoffs; he is well liked and respected by fans in OKC and the stories come from sources other than those in the team.
The game(s) were arranged a long time in advance and there is very little KU can do to change the schedule now other than opting out and paying a huge penalty and missing an RPI building game that is too late to replace and that would create a really bad precedent of not honoring contracts. Maybe in the future all contract should have a clause with dates when games cannot be scheduled, but it is too late for this particular game. Better yet.SZ should hire someone that actually know how to write a contract that favors KU; he obviously sucks at it.
Didn't you predict the same scenario at the beginning of last season? It worked out OK...trust thy Self.
I have mentioned it in a couple of other threads but there does not to be much interest on the subject. He has picked up a few commitments though.
No way KU ends up .500. On the other hand, he might be thinking that without competent/capable bigs, might as well go small with a potent long range array of shooters ala ISU, it worked well for them, it might work for KU as well.
Here is a link for you...Link for HEM ↗...
You obviously think you know more than Coach Self and are not shy about it and you also continuously reminds us that know more than all of us forum members as well and that only your opinion counts....might as well apply for Coach Self's job. Please be sure to let us know what they say...once they stop laughing.
You remind me of the nagging wife, that can't even keep the household budget straight,. telling her husband, the CEO of a Fortune 500 company that just finished the year with a billion dollar profit, that he is doing it all wrong.
P.S. Read @ralster's posts about his time with coach Self, you could learn a lot...although I seriously doubt it.
That is what you get when you hire a coach with girl's name :)...just kidding, Kim Anderson seems to be a pretty decent guy that inherited a cesspool of a program. Mike Anderson jumped ship the first chance he got and Frank Haith was a stupid hire...but what can you expect from the program that selected Quin Snyder over Bill Self? Much like the Chiefs hiring Romeo Crennel, .you just don't hire a coach with history of losing and expect him to suddenly start winning...plain dumb.
I am with you and while at it you can throw Westbrook in the mix, although he is a volume shooter and first option on a depleted team. IMHO, the off-the-court issue should not be a heavy factor, but all things considered, I would go with Curry...and I thought he looked too fragile in college to make it in the NBA. I sure was wrong on that one he sure is a complete player.
When I watch Curry, perhaps the best all-time 3-point shooter ever in the NBA, I am thankful he missed one against KU...
Yes, but...
Other coaches can say the same thing about UK and just about every other program. Cauley-Stein - 3 years to become good, the twins two years to become marginal second round picks or go undrafted, Poythress 3 years, Dakari Johnson 2 years and so on... and they all came to UK as OADs, and the same thing happened in previous years where the squid player core was not OADs but players with more than one year of experience. On the other hand, freshmen Wiggins and and injured Embiid went 1 and 3 in the draft...see my point? Not every highly ranked HS player pans out in college and not all of them develop in one year either.
No question that after watching Alexander play a couple of games, it was obvious that he was like a fish out of water and his basketball IQ was well below that of other players. Yes, he did well in HS when his superior physicality was enough to overwhelm other players, not the McD All-American types mind you, but the ones that work at McDonald's after practice. Look at the highlight tape he did after announcing he was declaring for the draft...the entire highlight tape is the one dunk that earned him a "T". Alexander and Selby are KU's poster children for staying an extra year or two in college. No question that Alexander would have benefited greatly staying an extra year at KU.
Come on...prospects are well aware of what other players can and cannot do and they are not that stupid to think that, Alexander and his personal/family issues that prevented him from playing at the time when he could have been the most productive, can or should be blamed on Coach Self.
By the way. UK has 18 players in the NBA, Duke 17 and KU?...well...16. Not that much of a difference ↗, is it?
yada, yada, yada...and KU was supposed to finish behind Texas, ISU and Oklahoma last season, how did that work out?
A lot more difficult to win consecutive titles in this day and age than when UCLA did it, they had overwhelming talent and little competition back then.
A lot more to the Frankamp story than what has been published. KU has scholarships available, why waste them?
In the mean time MU continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel, ↗ and KSU keeps losing players... ↗
makes you appreciate Coach Self and the KU program even more.
So, who do the Royals think they are with so many injured players...KU?
I like my asylum version better... ;)
Old school baseball....love it!
I get it you value the results of a 6 game single elimination tournament more than continuous excellence throughout the season. You are not alone, but you are in the minority of people familiar with the sport and that includes just about every sports writer out there.
You can read it here ↗ and here ↗how other people see the conference title winning streak.
If KU goes on to tie or beat UCLA's streak of 13 consecutive titles, it will most likely considered one of the greatest achievement in team sports ever, considering that KU did it in a time of much greater parity and with a heck of a lot more capable teams than during the UCLA run when a handful of teams dominated the sport.
I get the impression that Maker has no interest in college unless it immediately improves his NBA chances and at this time it look like college would actually delay that goal
Calipari has always managed to stay one step ahead of the law, and maybe this time he need asylum in Canada. If he gets UK on probation, the fans there will not be kind...
I would prefer to keep anything related to rap off the KU program, but if I must, and the choice comes down to "P" Diddy or "P"*ssy Drake, I'll take Diddy.
Unless Thon Maker improves a lot over the Summer, I just don't see him playing a single day in college. He is not close to being ready to face quality competition (he was exposed at the Nike Hoops Summit) and is a long term project. He will take the NBA big money based on his potential and hopefully develop his game while getting paid...after all, you can't teach height and he is got plenty of that.
Based on what they did throughout the season and where they were projected to finish in the tournament, UConn had no business winning last year any more than MSU had making it to the Final Four this year and in the process providing an easy game to Duke instead of the tough game Wisconsin had against UK...so yes, the road to the final four is a crap shoot and involves a lot of luck.
Get P-Diddy instead he b*tch slapped Drake before ↗...
Ingram is Duke's top priority and they had home visit yesterday as did UNC and KU. Interesting that the squid is in Toronto watching the Raptors=Wizards game...maybe is is contemplating jumping to the NBA???
Lots of talk out there that Skal Labissiere might not get cleared by the NCAA and might not be able to play for UK. If this happens and the squid does not pick up any of the available to players left, how much trouble is he in since his approach is to win with overwhelming superior talent?
Wilt had the misfortune of playings for bad teams that he had to put on those huge shoulders of his and carry them. Russell had the fortune to play in perhaps the best dynasty in sports and while he was very good, his teams were also outstanding and hence he ended up with more post-season hardware than Wilt and every other player in the sport, and sport historians often have him ranked a head of Wilt, which is grossly unfair since Wilt really dominated Russell...but as Wilt himself said... nobody roots for Goliath...except Jayhawk fans. :)
Dang Slayer...how can I unwatch those pics?
Thorne has one year left to show what he can do and needed "guaranteed" playing time somewhere in one of the top conferences. There is no way KU could have promised or guarantee playing time. KUs on the other hand cold have; another player dismissed (5leaving so far) and they will have only 3 of their top 10 scorers coming back; they do have several decent (2-3 stars???)prospect signed though.
Spot on. I just posted something along the same line except comparing Wilt and Bill Russell. While Wilt dominated Russell at the position, Russel had a much better team and his teams won most of their games and history has been much kinder to him than Wilt.
Good read, however I respectfully disagree with this statement:
"No one, except Russell, who flustered Wilt with his quickness. Russell was the only guy Wilt faced during the season that was as quick as him. Wilt could overpower Russell whenever he wanted, but Russell's quickness and intelligence kept Wilt from getting to his spots and overwhelming Russell's Celtics. That's why Russell has more rings than fingers. He was the only one that could neutralize Wilt."
Wilt outplayed Russell in just about every game they played. Yes Russell won more games and had more championships but this was due to the fact that his supporting cast was always much better than Wilt's. They had 142 head to head matches including the regular season and playoffs and these are the numbers:
Chamberlain
- Total Pts.: 4077
- Average: 28.7
- High: 62
- Total Rebds.: 4072
- Average: 28.7
- High: 55
- Wins: 57
Russell
- Total Pts.: 2060
- Average: 14.5
- High: 37
- Total Rebds.: 3373
- Average: 23.7
- High: 40
- Wins: 85
I am obviously biased but there is no question that head to head, Wilt owned Russel. Just my opinion.
The replay appeared to show that the Oakland player went for the injury rather than breaking the double play. The Chanel 5 sports analyst indicated that there will likely be retribution tomorrow...
I'll take Junior Selden over any OAD.
My post with Coach Self's comments about missing on Baker were not at all related to recruiting him and not getting him; KU DID NOT recruit Baker at all. The comment Coach Self made was in relation to not seeing his potential at the time, no one really did and his only option was to walk on at WSU...who would have thought he would turn out the way he did.
I could be wrong but I cannot think of a single recruit that KU pursued hard that ended up at KSU or WSU...maybe you can refresh my memory.
Coach Self has openly admitted that much like a lot of other coaches he missed on Baker. Baker was pretty much of an unknown and even WSU did not offer but simply asked him to walk on (like KU) and he did it at WSU because he figure that he had a better chance there than at KU. No one imagined he would develop the way he did.
You got it.
