I would have liked to see BMac play in the 2011-2012 team that went to he finals; with him KU probably has another Championship...
Let's not be hasty. Remember that KU has been accused of the same thing when it hired Danny's and Mario's fathers. How about hiring Darnell Valentines's coach Lafayette Norwood? Many would even say that Snacks got his job to get Alexander...It is not that uncommon, it happens all the time.
Don't despair. Keep in mind that these are 17-18 year old kids making the biggest decision of their lives and one that will set the tone for their future careers and one that involves a lot more money than most of us will ever make, so it is understandable that they want to take their time. Our time table and/or impatience is not and should not be their concern; they will make a decision when they are ready. Don't you think that if you were in that situation you would take as much time as possible to make that important of a decision?
Ingram is announcing Monday and I imagine the rest will do the same in the next few days as well, not that big of a deal in the big scheme of things...plus gives a topic for ongoing discussions.
Forgot Embiid too. I understand he did not play but he is drawing a huge salary from the Sixers. 16 KU players in the League.
That article is one year old and if you read the entire article (not just the first paragraph) and his explanation about context you would know that it is not likely the he will be leaving KU anytime soon and the last paragraph indicates that much.
You might have the correct answer and it has a different shade of Blue. Rat face ratting on Roy...
Sissy throw? That is putting it mildly...and kindly...
I can't think of another player that seemed as exited playing for KU as KY was. I sure miss his attitude.
I posted a link to the story under the pitchers photo above...
Congrats KY.!!!
Hopefully this opens the door for an NBA try-out.
If even part of the allegations stick. the "death penalty" is not that far fetched. Looks like Coach Williams is in a tough spot.
Interesting article on SB Nation. ↗ I had to laugh when I read this gem about KU...
With Diallo, this is likely the deepest front court in America.
You can't make this stuff up.
Are UNC fans getting ready for a new coach? This post seems to indicate that Coach Williams stay at UNC might not last long ↗, particularly if any of the allegations stick...
Also, in the NBA if you have money you can buy yourself a good set of players that fit your system, In college, unless you are the squid, you cannot. :)
Breaking news Royals fans...
Oakland has just issued a statement, they want the pitcher on the right (pic below) pitching for the Royals when the visit Oakland in June...
On a related note, Lawrie just made himself the most hated person in Kansas City ↗...
Good info. Is he playing for Greece in the upcoming World University Games? Is he even eligible?
Pet peeve #...too many to count...
Statement from the Thunder...
This past year we had unique and challenging circumstances and as I have conveyed, not many people could have accomplished what Scott and this team were able to,"
"We have a deep appreciation for all that Scott has contributed to the Thunder organization over the last seven years,"
Why is it that when a public figure gets fired he suddenly becomes a "valuable and key contributor." If that is the case, why the "F" did you fire him????
Archie Bunker and the Meathead...probably most of the younger posters don't know who they are. :)
Excellent points. Whats is the current status for Papagiannis? He seems to have dropped off the radar in the last week; I figured he decided to play pro ball in Greece...
Just got off the phone with a friend in OKC who is a huge Thunder fan and he was really surprised that Brooks was fired; apparently there was lot of friction between Brooks and Presti the GM who wants to bring in his close friend Billy Donovan.
I understand that Denver and Orlando have already contacted Brooks. If Donovan ends up at OKC, the very desirable Florida HC jobs opens up and the college HC merry-go-around starts. At this time I just don't see Coach Self leaving KU...but then, I did not think OKC would fire Brooks; maybe they will hire Ollie after all and I will be wrong two out of two :( or it should it be... :( :(
While it would be nice to get Newman, I would say that KU's primary targets are Diallo and Ingram and any available footer or near footer after that, would you agree with this?
Wiggins and Embiid were high level prospects but Svi is still a big unknown. Did you watch the Nike Hoops Summit where the International players beat the Americans? Tons of good foreign prospects...about 25% of NBA players are now foreigners.
Wasn't it the joke about California being like a bowl of granola?...what isn't nuts and flakes is fruits...not that I have anything against any of those groups... :)
Interesting recruiting information here... ↗
Tyrone Outlaw sounds like an interesting prospect, really good shooter but we have plenty of those....
Ebuka Izundu, the 6-10 senior forward from Victory Christian High in Charlotte, North Carolina sound interesting but I had not hear of him before. Looks like there are several programs looking for bigs including KU and UK and not many left available...shades of the year before last and Tarik Black?
Here is a link on Izundu ↗ and another ↗, and another... ↗
BTW,whatever happened to the 7' Greek that was so popular a few days ago? Is he not playing college and playing pro ball in Greece?
No question that Ingram is Duke's #1and only target and they sure are putting on the full court press with all the heavyweights. They have now a "potential" replacement for Tyus Jones and with Ingram they are back to having a championship caliber team; without him they fall behind UNC and UVa in the ACC.
If you are going to do it...go big or don't go at all???
yes...but....
He has adjusted his method, maybe not as much as some would like but he is still winning, so it is hard to argue that he is not doing things right...right?
We really don't know much of what goes on behind close doors and after reading @ralster's accounts of his experience with him, I will not second guess what he does.
Amen brother, I know exactly what you are saying. When I was young I thought time stood still..now it looks like it skips entire years...
I believe 60 minutes did a story of a panhandler lady in New York. She drove to town in a brand new Lexus, changed into ratty clothes and covered herself with a filthy blanket...she was maki9ng close top $200K per year...
I have offered yard work to some of those people with the "will do work" signs and invariably I have been turned down. I no longer give money to any panhandler.
Come on guys...did you see him play at the Nike Hoops Summit? I did and he is not ready for prime time. If he wanted real competition he would have joined one of the many Basketball Prep schools but instead he went to Canada. I believe the real agenda is to create a narrative where he ends up in the NBA based uniquely on anecdotal experience and potential (the NBA has proven it is dumb enough to do that) rather than actual competition against other top players, so he learns to play while getting a hefty paycheck.
I really don't believe that any of the top programs would take him for one semester, not even the squid and particularly not Coach Self, although after playing one semester, and unless he is a savant like Embiid, he will in all likelyhood stay another year or two; he certainly would not start at KU. Way too much distraction and chemistry disruption to take him for one semester; also, it would likely affect the academic standard of the program and the overall backlash would be more than any program would care to have.
Attending school for one semester and then leaving would be the basketball equivalent of a "booty call" and no school wants to be at the receiving end of such visit. I would certainly hope not KU.
Also, Brandon Sampson that had committed re-opened his recruiting after Lavin left and now he is going to LSU. If they lose Diallo it will be a pretty rocky start for Mullins.
It was 3 +years ago...
Yep. At the nightclub at the new Oread Hotel.
Nothing gross, actually kind of funny ↗unless you are Dion Rayford in which case it will follow you forever... ↗
In Arizona these are he definitions and likely penalties:
Under Arizona criminal law (revised statues), assault charges range from misdemeanor assault to felony aggravated assault. The statutes for assault also include charges for endangerment and threatening.
Misdemeanor Assault
A misdemeanor charge of assault can result from:
- Physically injuring another person,
- intentionally placing another person in “reasonable apprehension of imminent physical injury”, or
- touching another person with them intent to injure, insult or provoke.
Any actual physical injury (#1) will result in a Class 1 misdemeanor charge for assault. A Class 1 misdemeanor has a maximum sentence of 6 months in jail and a $2500 fine.
The threat of injury (#2) will result in a Class 2 misdemeanor charge for assault. A Class 2 misdemeanor has a maximum sentence of 4 months in jail and a $750 fine.
Touching with intent to injur or provoke (#3) will result in a Class 2 misdemeanor charge for assault. A Class 3 misdemeanor has a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Aggravated Assault
Aggravated Assault is a felony charge
Aggravating factors that may may an assault offense an aggravated assault include:
Any assault that results in a “serious physical injury”
- causes temporary but substantial disfigurement or fracture
- an assault using a deadly weapon
- if the victim is restrained or captive
- if the perpetrator is an adult, and the victim is a child 15 years old or younger.
- is committed after entering the private home of someone
- if the victim is a police officer, prison guard, firefighter, prosecutor, teacher, or medical professional.
An aggravated assault charge is a Class 3 Felony. Under Arizona law, a class 3 felony offense carries with it a penalty of 5-15 years in prison for a dangerous offense, for which an aggravated assault qualifies.
Second offense aggravated assault charges increase the severity to a possible prison sentence of 10-20 years.
Aggravated factors in under Arizona laws are extremely complicated. Please contact an attorney for a full understanding of the exact penalties you could be facing if found guilty of Aggravated Assault charges in Arizona.
==========
I will guess that the charges will be amended to a felony assault after a private financial settlement is reached and the injured party refuses to testify. Any more, that's the American way, sue the wealthy and get a big payday.
but,,,,did you drop the chalupa? Some of the older football fans will know what I mean :)
My prediction of the hour...KU with the lead on Diallo and Duke with the lead on Ingram...but it could change in the next 15 minutes. I understand that Ingram will announce in 1 week from today.
5 games? That is a lot than anyone imagined; I am sure it will be appealed. I did not think Ventura would get a suspension and a fine seems about "politically" correct.
Don't wait, unlike wine, it does not get better/easier with age.
I have to respectfully disagree with you. Ollie is well respected in the NBA as a player because of his work ethic not necessarily because of his ability since he was mostly a role player that averaged 3.8 ppg and 15 mpg over his career. However, his only coaching experience is 2 years as an assistant under Calhoun and 3 as head coach with 1 (very successful) trip to the NCAA with Calhoun's players) and the next year (last season) he made it only to the 1st round of the NIT. Not really an impressive coaching background. Bruce Weber came within a whisker of winning the NCAA with Self's players and had a much better record than Ollie and he is not even sniffing the NBA anytime soon; he might even be out of a job at KSU soon. Remember Mike Davis? He made it to the NCAA Title game in his second seasons as HC at Indiana (with Bob Knight's players) and after that it was all downhill with UAB next and now coaching at Texas Southern of the Southwestern Athletic Conference... a long ways from the bright lights of Indiana and the Big 10.
Scott Brooks has finished 5th, 4th, 1st, 1st,1st, 1st and 2nd in the North West division which for a super-small market team with a lot less resources than a big market team is really, really good. He is already third in the franchise history in wins behind only legends Lenny Wilkens and George Karl. I have a couple of friend in OKC that are big fans and what I hear from them is that he is well liked and respected by fans. Last season was a disaster with injuries and they went through 21 players...if Durant had played 30 games instead of 27, they are most likely in the playoffs. When you look at all coached in the NBA history with 400 or more games, Scott Brooks is #8 all time in winning %...this pretty darn good. The only other coaches with a better winning % are:
- Phil Jackson 0.704
- Billy Cunningham 0.698
- Gregg Popovich .685
- K. C. Jones .674
- Red Auerbach -.662
- Pat Riley 0.636
- Erik Spoelstra 0.629
- Scott Brooks 0.620
Anyway, that is my story and I am sticking to it :)
If they get Ingram (their main target) they will have championship caliber team...again. :(
We had glimpses last season of how well this team can play when firing on all cylinders, and with the extra year of experience...and it hey can find consistency, I believe we will see improvement across the board. I have a sneaky feeling that Greene will be a really pleasant surprise.
Recovery form injury has changed dramatically in recent years. 25 years ago I had arthroscopic surgery on my left shoulder to remove scar tissue that had formed between the ball and socket (carrying a laptop...make that a 30 pound transportable computer did it); I had to stay in the hospital for 2 days and my arm was fully immobilized for 1 month and after that, when the holding gear was removed, my arm hung limp on the side and it would not move and I had to do go through extensive rehab to get it fully operational again. Two year ago I had a more extensive arthroscopic surgery on the other shoulder to remove scar tissue as well as bone spur; the surgery was done as outpatient and I was sent home the same day with a plain cloth sling and instructions to only use it if the shoulder became painful. Within a week my arm was almost back to normal and all the rehab required was to exercise at home it with rubber bands.
I will guess that Brannen will soon be starting with light exercise and graduate quickly to a heavier routine. Like I said, recovery form surgery is now a lot shorter than it used to be and exercise/rehab starts fairly quickly. I am really not worried about him not being in shape come next season.
I see your point but I am not sure I agree. Brannen was starting to play better and his defense, although still lacking, was considerably better than the previous year and his defensive rebounding was much improved. In hindsight, I can see how his injury completely negated side to side movement and seriously handicapped his defense. Brannen is a smart kid and I am hoping he he will be a nice surprise once he is healed. Many players actually come out stronger from an injury since going through the rehabilitation regime gives them a more balanced and better training approach that takes better advantage of their strengths and compensates for their weaknesses...I am hoping it works this way for him.
Talk about Darnell Valentine-like thunder thighs, is she a weightlifter?...I guess you would have to be to lifts those huge whatchamacallits... :)
...and while we are at it, might as well add Raiders-like black unis?
Good points but you have to remember that Coach Self developed his offense at at time when upper class men played and the younger players learned the system and if you look at his best teams, they were junior and senior based teams with a other complimentary players.
With OAD and TAD players taking the bulk of play time, the Coach Self has slowly changed/simplified his system, I guess you can call it dumbing it down for lack of a better name, so it is not as effective as it once was but allows better production form the younger, less experience players. The current team should come in with a lot more experience and I can see Coach Self staying with the system that has proven to be highly effective longer, now that he has the talent and experience. No question that some kids such as Collison, Hinrich, Reed, Morningstar come in with much higher basketball IQ and can contribute earlier, others come in with lower a BBall IQ and eventually catch up and some will never quite reach a high level BBall IQ and will have to rely on other tools to be productive. BTW, I don't believe BBall IQ is related to how smart you are but how your brain is wired.
Where and which is the best? I am not sure they are better than the ones in KC which rer routinely in the top-10, top-20 lists of BBQ joints in the country.
At least dozen great BBQ places within 10 miles (many very close) from home.
Depending on the day and time, lines can be crazy long. Most of the time I just order and take it home; I am only 3 miles from their location.
