Josh to Celtics #1? • Jun 21, 2017 10:48 PM

@ParisHawk

Assault does not require physical contact. If he threatened her to the point that she felt unsafe, even when he physically did not touch her, he would have been charged with assault, if he touched her as well assault and battery.

Obviously the Police/prosecutors felt that whatever he said to her did not raise to the level of assault and she and her companion in her car were not at any time in danger and hence the lone charge of criminal damage to property.

Josh to Celtics #1? • Jun 21, 2017 07:18 PM

@Kcmatt7

Hold on just a second...

Police altercation appears to imply that he had an altercation with police officers which as we know is not the case.

He had two incident that eventually involved the Police. Lets be clear that in the first one at the night club's parking lot, he was charged only with criminal damage to property and NOT with assault which would have been the case if he made threats that made the woman in question feel in danger.

The second involved a hit and run, which is something that happens all the time. I have personally had my car hit a few times at parking lots and hardly ever anyone left any information. One time in Lawrence at an event, my car got hit and there were several witnesses and the lady was told to leave a note with her phone number, which she did, but one of the witnesses was suspicious and got her tags as well. As it turned out, the phone number she left was wrong and when the Police checked the tags it turned out to be the wife of the Lawrence City Attorney. The Police contacted her and she claimed she transposed a couple of numbers on the number she left by mistake...right.
With all the surveillance cameras around, it is now more difficult to get away with it and Josh made a bone headed mistake and got caught.

While the first incident is very serious, the second is just one level up from a traffic ticket and not really that big of a deal.

@dylans

No doubt the incoming class looks impressive. Two or three more like it and KU could be contending in the conference.

2018 Kansas Jayhawks Football Recruiting • Jun 20, 2017 04:33 AM

@Kcmatt7 @dylans

I seem to remember that when Christ and Heaps came to KU there was a thread on the subject and the consensus was that there had been only one 5 star rated player previously or at least in the last 20 years or so; for some reason I thought it was Talib or maybe Anthony Collins? Turner Gill recruited decent players but I don't believe he had any 5 star rated players.

2018 Kansas Jayhawks Football Recruiting • Jun 20, 2017 01:56 AM

@JhwkrRedLegs

Other than the two recycled QBs during Weiss tenure, I believe the only recruited 5 star player was Talib? Looks like this might be the best class ever at KU???

@BShark

Garret played PG in HS and yes, I read what you posted; however, playing that position he was selected POY for the state of Texas, one of the top BBall states in the country...what makes you think he could not play PG in college? Wouldn't the logical initial assumption be that he can play PG until he shows he cannot?

Now The Real Fun Begins: May Rotation Talk • Jun 19, 2017 06:29 PM

@BeddieKU23

But he is not a graduate transfer right now, right so far? He is just an athlete with two years left of eligibility and after he graduates at the end of the season he will still have one year left. He will be a graduate transfer AFTER he graduates from Yale and at that time there is nothing Yale or the Ivy League can do, right? What part do I have wrong?

Now The Real Fun Begins: May Rotation Talk • Jun 19, 2017 05:11 PM

@BeddieKU23

If he is a graduate transfer, there is nothing the Ivy League can do since he will have graduated and gone from Yale, right?

I believe he SEC used to have some restriction accepting graduate transfers but did away with them a while back.

Mitch to have a Huge Huge Role • Jun 19, 2017 05:05 PM

@jaybate-1.0

It makes Bill Self’s mongo house and $10,000,000 per year possible.

Where did you get the $10M figure? His salary is less than half of that and even with bonuses and endorsements it is not even close to $10M. Maybe you know something the rest of us don't.

@globaljaybird

A big honor to be admitted to any of the major military academies.

Mitch to have a Huge Huge Role • Jun 18, 2017 05:59 PM

@KUSTEVE

We all knew Mitch was going to be a 4 or even 5 year player and his contribution would be mostly in the later years. I am glad that Coach Self is bullish on him.

2018 NBA Draft • Jun 18, 2017 04:31 PM

@Bwag

It is waaaaaay too early to know how things will shake out. The actual draft will look quite different.

2018 NBA Draft • Jun 18, 2017 03:54 PM

@REHawk

Too early for it to make any sense and all the OADs listed are based on their HS ranking with no idea how they will do in College.

NBA Draft ↗ has most KU players listed with Vick as the top at #25.

Mayweather v McGregor • Jun 18, 2017 03:40 PM

@dylans

Two truly unlikeable characters. If the fight is controlled to be purely boxing then Maywheater has the edge; if it turns into a brawl the McGregor has a puncher's chance. The key is that McGregor can fight equally well as a righty or southpaw and it will interesting to see how much it will bother Mayweather or will keep him guessing enough to make him lees effective or even ineffective.

While the money keeps going up, boxing has now a shadow of the popularity it had in the 60s-80s and MMA is the new kid on the block offering a newer and higher level of brutality that seems to be preferred by a portion of today's society; the modern version of the old Roman Colosseum. While I still read the results, I don't actively follow either.

Did Leborn start the super teams? • Jun 18, 2017 03:17 PM

There have been super teams ever since the NBA was started. It does not necessarily mean getting all new players but also assembling a super team by getting a great supporting cast for an already on board superstar. The Lakers got at different times Wilt, Kareem, Shaq and other great players to complement the existing players such as Magic, Worthy, Kobe and others. The Celtics, Lakers, Bulls, Spurs have all at times assembled all star casts with various levels of success. The Russian owner of the Nets tried to spend a lot of money by building a super team from scratch and failed miserably; the Sixers are trying to do the same by tanking seasons and getting high draft picks and the jury is still out on that strategy. The current high cost of super stars and salary cap/luxury tax makes it more difficult now to assemble a super team; the Heat was definitely one and currently the closest we have are the Cavs and Warriors with some dark horses building for the future with young players such as the Sixers anf the Timberwolves.

@Texas-Hawk-10 @approxinfinity

Like I said...if it is determined that any of the players involved was part of the championship game then the title will be stripped...or I should say, it should be. I guess we will find out soon enough; I am sure we will meet back here in the near future.😉

@Texas-Hawk-10 @approxinfinity

What you are saying then is that if any of the 5 teams that finished runner up would have won the tournament instead, it would not have had its Final Four vacated? In other words, if you are going to cheat be sure you win the NCAA Tournament and you will not be stripped of your Final our appearance?

Sorry guys but I will stick with nonsensical. If it is determined that any of the players involved was part of the championship game then the title will be stripped. I guess we will find out soon enough.

@Texas-Hawk-10

What I am saying is that if any of those 5 runner ups would have won the final game then they would have forfeited the title.

What you are saying is that they were penalized ONLY because the lost that final game and if they would have won instead, say Memphis beat KU, then they would have not been stripped of their Final Four appearance because the NCAA would not take the title away? I don't mean any disrespect but that is non-sensical. As I mentioned, the NCAA stripped USC of the title in football which is a much bigger deal than the basketball title.

@Texas-Hawk-10

5 Final Four runner ups had to forfeit their Final Four appearances...

Final Four Appearances Vacated By NCAA

YEAR TEAM FINISH

2008 Memphis Runner-up

1999 Ohio State Semifinals

1997 Minnesota Semifinals

1996 UMass Semifinals

1993 Michigan Runner-up

1992 Michigan Runner-up

1985 Memphis Semifinals

1980 UCLA Runner-up

1971 Villanova Runner-up

1971 Western Kentucky Third place

1961 Saint Joseph's Third place

@Texas-Hawk-10

That is incorrect. Many teams have lost their NCAA titles including USC in football in 2004 which is a much bigger deal than basketball. The violations are a lot more serious this time around including Loss of Institutional Control.

Yesterday the talk was that the Lakers had told Josh they would pick him at #2 and this is why he cancelled the workout with the Celtics. Not any more. Josh is now being talked as going #1 to the Celtics. ↗

@Texas-Hawk-10

Jay Bilas, who happens to be a lawyer, disagrees ↗ and most of the articles I have read today on the subject seem to think so as well.

WOW!!! The NCAA finally announced the penalties ↗ for Louisville and it looks like it will have to forfeit its National Championship among other penalties..

Now, we all know that UK shopuld be at the receiving end of similar penalties and hopefully, justice will eventually prevail.

The Cavaliers had the rights to Kaun for as long as he was under contract overseas. Once he was no longer under contract and available to sign with an NBA team, they had the rights for 1 year after which he would have been free to sign with any team. While playing overseas he did not have a contract with or drew a salary from the Cavs so there was nothing to go on the cap, makes sense?

Since KU started the streak, in addition to Durant Texas has also had lottery picks LaMarcus Aldridge, D.J. Augustine, Tristan Thompson and Myles Turner, KSU POY Beasley, OU POY Buddy Hield and Blake Griffin. Baylor has Prince and Udoh...

KU has taken on all comers and still king of the hill.

where teams with high payrolls sign foreign players in the 2nd round whom they never intend to sign

I am sure you meant draft?

I am not sure what you mean. If a foreign player is under contract overseas, an NBA cannot sign him, however it retains the rights for one year after the player informs the team he is available to sign. Ricky Rubio was selected by the Timberwolves and the team waited for several years until his contract buyout was less and they kicked in part of it as part of the contract. Until he actually signs he does not count in the the salary cap. NBA team carry 15 players on the roster and a minimum of 8 and maximum of 13 can be active for games; this is why you see the 3 bottom players taking turn being active during the playoffs.

Lots of exemption to the salary cap.

OAD era • Jun 13, 2017 01:42 AM

@mayjay

Tems cannot stash a player indefinitely. After a player indicates he is ready to sign the team retains the rights for only 1 year after that. I believe what you are thinking is what is called the Eurostash player and those are Euro players currently under contract and the team retains the rights until their contracts expire or 12 months after he informs the team he is ready to sign.

Teams retain the rights of underclassmen until 1 year after their class would have graduated or 4 years maximum for a OAD, otherwise the draft would be moot and prospects would be like free agents and able to negotiate with any team.

OAD era • Jun 12, 2017 06:01 AM

@mayjay

Why not adopt the baseball model then? Prospects that are ready can go directly from HS, if not then they have to wait 3 years which gives the time to potentially graduate or at least make substantial progress towards a degree which they can finish on line or later.

@jaybate-1.0

Cunliffe shot 0.405 in the 10 games he played for ASU. Great athlete with huge upside.

@KUSTEVE

As a team KU shot 0.404 from the 3 last season although only 2 players individually shot over 0.400, Mason was one and Svi at 0.398 came close. Do you want to guess who the other player was?

KU has at least 5 players that can potentially hit 0.400 or better from the 3 next season, Graham, Newman, Svi, Cunliffe and Vick; Preston hit 0.375 in HS and I am not sure what Garrett's percentage was. If they all progress as expected, KU could be scary good and the college version of the Warriors.

2018 Recruiting Thread • Jun 10, 2017 04:34 PM

@BShark

I will have to disagree with you. The AAC is not a bad Conference and it has been consistently ranked as the 7th best behind the power 5 and the Basketball only Big East. It has several quality programs including Temple, UConn, SMU, Cincinnati, Memphis and now Wichita State. UConn has the most of titles, 2, in the last 10 years tied with Duke and UNC and if you go back 20 years, it has the most titles if any program with 4. All the teams I mentioned above have been ranked in the to 20 in the last few years.

In my opinion, the Newcomer of the Year in the American should be a solid contributor in any of the major conferences; Dedric won the same award the previous year and we all think he will be great at KU. His numbers are better and his upside greater than that of Whitman, who most of us think will be a solid contributor the upcoming season. I have great hopes for K.J.

We will not really know until next year. If Udoka and Preston leave along with Whitman then there will be lots of playing time available; if they decide to stay...not so much.

I am sure the available bigs will wait until next year to see how much PT is available before making a commitment. All the potential OAD players will want plenty of PT since they want to showcase their talent in the one year they play.

Udoka, first team All-American • Jun 09, 2017 05:17 PM

@approxinfinity

Remember that Bragg had grown an inch or two and gained weight under Hudy's guidance over the summer and physically there was no reason for him not to succeed; the expectation was based on his potential and position he would play. Bragg's issue was not physical but mental. ESPN had him as the KU break out player and many early mock drafts had him as a lottery pick...just sayin'...

Udoka, first team All-American • Jun 09, 2017 04:39 PM

Whoa there...lets not get carried away. I remember a thread like this last year about...wait for it...Carlton Bragg. Let's not jinx Doke and heap lofty expectations like Bragg only to be disappointed when not met. I would be happy if KU can get 20-25 minutes of solid defense and enough offense to keep opponent honest; with the back court KU will have this is all we need from him and everything over that is icing on the cake.

Joe Dooley needs another step up before being considered by major programs. Very unlikely he would jump from Florida Gulf Coast to Indiana; obviously not unprecedented mind you, but a very long shot.
