Yes, but it is not easy to find a PG that averages almost 10 apg with an assist-to ratio of 3.5.

HOW BILL SOLVED THE RUBIK'S CUBE β€’ Jun 27, 2017 05:21 AM

@HighEliteMajor

Come on @HighEliteMajor, we both know that @elpoyo comes to this board only occasionally and mostly to make outrageous statements and to get a reaction.

Now, you are a smart fellow...are you saying the the NCAA does not involve a fair amount of luck? If you say no, you are being disingenuous.

Also, how is it A coaches fault when he has a good game plan and the team picks the wrong time to have an off game? Take the last game of the season against Oregon, KU shot 5 of 25 or 20% from the 3 point, 4 of 10 or 40% in the first half and a putrid 1 of 15 or 6.67% in the second half. When is the last time the team shot so poorly from the 3?...and most of the misses were not even contested shots but wide open ones that the various players made routinely during the season...how is this Coach Self's fault? I am sure that if Coach Self could have played he would have shot better than that.

I have always maintained that if from the Elite 8 forward the format is switched to 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 the end result would be quite different. KU probably does not win in 1988 but likely wins at least 2 or 3 more titles in other years, maybe even this past season.

By the way, one man' garbage is another man's treasure.

@HighEliteMajor

I sense a connection between you and @elpoyo...any chance he is your alter ego? A sycophant?

@Kcmatt7

As a floor general and passer, Rubio is probably top 3, if you have seen him play, his passes are a thing of beauty. His defense is not bad, he steals the ball often enough and he is great at the FT line. The glaring issue is his lack of scoring and poor shooting.

Right now I would say he is an overall top 15 PG and if he ever improves his shooting and scoring he would easily move to top 10.

2018 NBA Draft β€’ Jun 26, 2017 08:20 PM

I am still not impressed withe Lonzo Ball. While he is an above average passer, other parts of his game are below average; his defense is below average and his shot will get blocked often by athletic defenders that will not give him the room he had in college. I don't see him as a future superstar but only journeyman player in the NBA. Of course I could be wrong...I did not think Curry was going to be a superstar either. :smiley:

@mayjay

"Mason never played point guard until he arrived at Kansas. He called himself a "scoring guard"

I beg to differ. while he never called himself a PG but a "scoring guard" according to all the recruiting services and his previous 2 high school he was indeed a PG although I saw one place where he is listed as both but I have yet to find any source that lists him as SG onl;y.

"Only Townsend got distracted by a little guard dribbling circles around everyone else, including McLaughlin."

Again, you don't SG dribbling circles around other players, typically a PG is the one that would do this.

"The nuances of the point guard position, however, were unbeknownst to him."

This is typical of most HS players that have had average HS coaching and whose talent gets them by.

""Teach me how to be a point guard," he told the coaches, "because I don't know.""

Again, this statement does not indicate that he was not a PG but he did not how to be one at the Division I level.

Semantics aside, has anyone ever considered Mason to be a SG and not a PG? I could not find a single source that would support this.

New guys β€’ Jun 26, 2017 09:15 AM

@jaybate-1.0

He came as a 2 guard in high school and then played like one, when he played point his first season.

Both Rivals β†— and KU β†— have Mason listed as PG out of HS, I am not sure why you think he was a 2. Yes, he was a volume shooter while in HS but a PG all the same.

Magic calls Ball the new face of the lakers β€’ Jun 25, 2017 02:32 AM

@DoubleDD

I am pretty sure Wade will be available.

@Statmachine

The Wolves have 4 quality starters in Rubio as PG, Wiggins as SG, Buttler at SF and Anthony Towns at Center; Dieng at PF is a step down. They also have a number of young backups with good potential. They are one quality player away from being a credible contender.

The Sixers have put together a nice collection of young talent with a lot of upside...if only they can stay healthy...

2018 NBA Draft β€’ Jun 25, 2017 12:30 AM

@mayjay

Interesting. I am surprised he did not use KU's recruiting record, it would have made his argument that much stronger.

Team FOE β†— competing in The Basketball Tournament again. several former KU players are part of the team and Mrcus Morris is the GM.

But they do want Lopez, he is a very good center and they need one to have a solid team.

KU Gets Slapped by Draft β€’ Jun 24, 2017 02:41 AM

@jaybate-1.0

The problem with Mario was that he played SG in college and he needed to switch to PG in the NBA and that was a risky move that could have ended badly. Luckily, he was able to develop into a serviceable PG.

4 states added to California travel ban β€’ Jun 23, 2017 06:56 PM

Link here... β†—

In addition to the 4 original states North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Tennessee, now Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and Kentucky join them. I wonder if this will affect Wichita hosting NCAA regional games...it could affect lots of potential sites in Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee. Hopefully the NCAA does not cater to California.

Well, he turned down a Celtics visit. β€’ Jun 23, 2017 05:58 PM

These type of decision are made by his agent who hopefully has a lot more information than we do.

2018 NBA Draft β€’ Jun 23, 2017 05:56 PM

@Kcmatt7

They cannot have all those players and stay under the cap. The talk is that getting anyone else means Nance is gone.

KU Gets Slapped by Draft β€’ Jun 23, 2017 05:52 PM

Coach Self's job is first and foremost to win games at KU and then prepare players for a future career which for some is the NBA. It is amazing that he wins as much as he does without all the big time players. With all the top players UK and Duke have recruited, they should be winning the tittle every year...and yet they don't and their consolation prize is having multiple high picks in the draft.

Prior to the draft, all the talk would have been made by Jackson's agent or by Jackson with his agent near by.

Other than Deshawn Watson (Clemson football), the competition are a soccer and a baseball players and a wrestler, none of these sports are nearly as popular as Basketball or Football.

@Crimsonorblue22

Jackson is a fast learner and has learned to keep his temper in check. Remember how at the beginning of the season we used to cringe when he took a 3 point shot? Well...his 3 point shooting went from 0.318 before conference to 0.435 in conference play, a result of better mechanics but most of all better shot selection; a huge improvement no doubt. Jackson will do well in the NBA not only because his God given athleticism but also his desire to win and the work ethic to make it happen.

Mason drafted 34th by Sacramento β€’ Jun 23, 2017 04:38 PM

@Kcmatt7

At one time there was talk he would be traded to the Sixers and so there was a chance of having Embiid, Ben and potentially Jackson on the team but that was just a rumor that never came to fruition.

Ben will do well in the right setting and Sacramento is not it.

Josh to Celtics #1? β€’ Jun 23, 2017 04:04 PM

@mayjay @Kcmatt7

I do agree with both of you. At this time some people believe that what Jackson did was so serious that should define who he is, others believe it's not a big deal and most of us are somewhere in between, where we don't approve or condone what he did but we also believe that is should not be made any worse than its is and should not define what Jackson is. No doubt all position have some merit and, if still doing debate, I could defend any of them

As you recall, Jackson got a couple or three "Ts" early in the season, one fully unwarranted and even the announcers said so, but he learned his lesson, realized that sometimes bad calls happen, buttoned his lip and did not get any more T's the rest of the season. I think the kids is a fast learner and he will always remember what these incidents could have cost him and will be a good citizen going forward.

I have to say that this thread, although repetitive, its has not gotten confrontational or rude and while there appears to be little left to say on the subject, there is no need to shut it down; I am certainly out of things to say and moving to other threads/topics.

Again, we can always agree to disagree.

Yep. I believe he was trying to say...The NCAA has a thing for successful coaches like Pitino and me and I am not the only one "unfairly" penalized even when everybody else thinks he is as guilty as Pitino.

Josh to Celtics #1? β€’ Jun 22, 2017 11:18 PM

@Kcmatt7

Now you are comparing apples and oranges. Josh Jackson is not applying to be a teacher, a counselor, an accountant, a doctor, an attorney or a priest, he is applying to be a basketball player in a League in which incidents like his are nothing new.

If I am hiring an accountant to do my books and manage my company's accounts I certainly would hire someone with an extra clean record; however, if I am hiring someone to dig fence posts holes on my backyard, I could not care less what he did a long as he does the work and stays out of trouble while working for me.

If character would be requirement for every job, then the Kardashians, who much like Jackson are in the entertainment business, would be in the poor house since they have no talent or morals.

Kobi Bryant was rewarded with huge contract and he became even more popular after the rape accusation and out of court settlement.

The Chiefs drafted Tyreek Hill, who had been dismissed from Oklahoma State after pleading guilty to choking his pregnant girlfriend, a crime that is considerably more serious than anything Josh did and now he is cheered by the fans.

Have you ever heard of Pacman Jones, a crime wave all by himself?

I could go on but it serves no purpose.

Again and in my opinion, you are blowing out Jackson's issues out of proportion and making them worse than they are. We agree that he made mistakes but we disagree that they define who Jackson is and on how much will affect his draft status. Contracts are loaded with morals clauses that would allow teams to get rid of him if he gets into further trouble.

I guess we will know in a couple of hours how these issues affected his draft status. If he falls below the top 4-5 then we will know it probably had an effect, otherwise it will not have had any.

Josh refused to work out for the Celtics. β€’ Jun 22, 2017 04:28 PM

The Celtics (Ainge?) made a statement indicating that they will picks at #3 the same player they would have picked at #1 which logically means Jackson...and they got some future picks from the Sixers in the process.

@mayjay

A pretty self serving statement from Boeheim. :smiley:

-Thing is 6’8 - -and 260? - - seems a little lean for his height doesn’t it? - - Maybe not.

A player with those numbers is a well proportioned and solidly built athlete and not a slow, overweight player like many linemen are.

Kcmatt7 said:

He went after a woman in some form and he performed a hit and run. Only fact that matter is he was guilty of two crimes that ARE above a traffic violation. And that is an issue. Period.

He did not go after the woman, he hit her car and this is why he was not charged with assault...I believe than under our legal system, we still have the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, tight?

He did not "perform" a hit and run, he accidentally hit a car while backing up from a parking spot at a KU parking lot, something that probably happens multiple times a day at private parking lots at KU. I am not sure the Police was involved in this incident and probably Campus Police (not the real Police) got involved and the issue resolved; typically, Police does not get involved in incident on private property unless there are injuries. Do you have information that the City Police (real Police) was ever involved?

I don't understand why you are trying to make his actions look worse than they are. We all agree that both incidents were bad but nothing earth shattering. The first one more serious but the second just above the level of a traffic ticket.

Again, none of us condone or minimize what he did but we do not need to make it worse that it is either. Just my opinion.
