@HighEliteMajor

The uniqueness of her being a woman seems to have been noted by Bill Self, as Bill Self admitted that he said to himself, “I don’t want to hire a woman to be a men’s strength coach. Who does that?’”

Coach Self was hesitant to hire a woman to be the men's basketball team strength coach because there was little or no precedent for this (other than UConn) and as you know, all coaches work closely with the athletes including interaction in the locker room and you can see where this can create issues...and yet he hired her, right?

So, his hesitation to hiring her was not sexist and not at all based on her capabilities but based instead on the reality of the interaction between athletes and coaches. See? This is not sexist.

@elpoyo never stopped to study her qualification and simply stated his premise that she was famous just because she was a woman. See? This is sexist.

So we can dispense with the whining about sexism related to the @elpoyo’s question.

So there is no whining about sexism and you are comparing aples to oranges, one is not sexist and the other is.

But the point is what has she done to outshine her competition? We aren’t “in the know” so we don’t really know. I’m interested.

As far as her capabilities as a coach, there are numerous articles describing her accomplishments and she is widely respected in the businesses, not only as a coach but also as a leader, as attested by the awards and accolades she has received. All you have to do is Google "Andrea Hudy" and you can get the information by yourself.

I will get you started here... ↗

@HighEliteMajor

I could be reading it wrong but then apparently most posters have as well. While el poyo post was framed as a question, to me it was more of a statement than, other than being a female, Hudy was nothing special.

Anyone that follows KU basketball knows that Hudy is considered by both, players and coaches, as one of the elite trainers in the business and a big plus in recruiting. To imply that Hudy is famous only because she is a female is not only sexist but plain incorrect, her accomplishments speak for themselves and deservedly place her at or near the top in her field...regardless of her sex.

@HighEliteMajor

While not technically impossible, the chances of a potential 2 and done rule ending up at the Supreme Court are highly improbable, wouldn't you agree?

The NFL and MLB have longer waits, although baseball allows prospect to go directly after HS. If these two sports rules which are currently in effect have not ended up at the SCOTUS, the proposed basketball rule will likely not end up there either.

@Kcmatt7

The federal government had gotten into too many areas that should be the domain of states. Most federal agencies cand be eliminated and the jobs moved to individual states where they belong.

The primary responsibility of the federal governments is in the Constitution's Preamble which says the federal government was established (and the Constitution was adopted) to “form a more perfect union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquillity, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”

The job of the federal government as originally envisioned included foreign relations, national defense and security, individual liberty and order and justice to allow a civil society without anarchy; everything else is secondary.

@Texas-Hawk-10

You listed juts 3 bigs, Doke, Preston and Whitman as taking all the minutes for the 4 and 5 position? I am not sure that is correct, you need more than 3 players for these 2 position and this is where Lightfoot might grab minutes...unless you go back to a pure 4 and 1 with the 3 bigs you mentioned fighting for the one position.

Bad year for recruiting • Jun 04, 2017 02:51 PM

@chriz

A couple of flaws in your argument.

First, regardless of what conference KU plays in, it would not be playing elsewhere, it would still be playing in Lawrence, Kansas and that seemed to be an issue with some players that prefer the coasts.

Second, KU has a lot of players coming back and not a lot of potential playing time available which naturally limits the recruits that wil be interested, regardless of conference affiliation.

Third, the rankings do not count transfers which are now an important source of players. Had they counted Cunliffe and Whitman KU is probably top 10. Next season, if KU does not sign anyone else other than the 3 players that will be eligible, the Lawsons and Moore, and based on their ratings, and more importantly experience, KU class would likely be ranked top 10 but under the current ranking it would not even be listed. Someone needs to come up with a ranking that considers all incoming players.

Last, how changing conferences would change anything for KU? KU is ranked low on the rankings you cited but as shown above they are grossly misleading and would not be any different if KU played in the ACC or any other conference. Did you notice that Texas and Big 12 member is ranked #5, defending champion and ACC member UNC #17 and and previous defending champion and Big East member Villanova #25? Maybe the last two should change conferences?

I have no problem with 0.0001% of the people making the decisions for the rest of us provided it is not the same group of people. We need to go back to the concept if the citizen legislator as envisioned by the founding fathers where individuals would take a few years off their regular jobs to serve the country and then go back to their original jobs. We do this as follows:

Term limits - 1 6-year term for senators and 3 2-year continuous terms for congressmen. Once an individual has completed his/her terms he/she cannot ever run again.

Congressmen are subject to all the same laws as the rest of the people. No exemptions.

Congressmen contribute to social security just like the rest of the people. No congressional retirement plan.

Congressmen are covered by the same insurance plans as the rest of the people. No congressional health plan...you would see how quickly the current program is fixed.

There you go, problem fixed...and then I woke up...

My point was that a lot of what is being reported as fact never happened as it was proven in several widely reported alleged anti Muslim attacks that were made up and never actually happened; the alleged incident is front page news but the retraction is buried on page 35. Same with a lot of alleged acts of racism that were staged for publicity. IMHO, racism is racism regardless of political affiliation.

We appear to be on opposite sides if the political spectrum so in deference to you, I will not comment on that and try to stay on KU basketball.

Texas has all the pieces to field a team that should contend for the conference title. If you look at all the star rankings coming out of HS, Texas has probably more than anyone else...but, it still has Smart that has yet to show he can run with the top dogs.

Mitch Article • Jun 02, 2017 01:03 AM

@jaybate-1.0

You missed my point. In the older days players like Cowens were considered and listed as center and played the classic back to the basket and near the basket and every single team had one center listed on the rotation. Now, most teams don't list a center because the back to the basket players are very rare. Players like Kevin Love who not too long ago would have been considered centers now they are power forwards. The power forward, particularly the stretch power forward is considered t be more versatile and thus more desirable and more marketable position and players that would have expected to play "center" now they play power forward. By the way, Tim Duncan was listed as and he consider himself a power forward ↗ and not a center...

@BeddieKU23

KSU might be laughable but always manages to give KU tough games.

I believe ISU and KU are 5-5 in the last 10 meetings and ISU is ahead 3-2 in the last 5...that is a pretty decent rivalry. Also, if Hoiberg is canned by the Bulls there is a good chance he goes back to Ames and the rivalry gets even more heated.

Against WSU KU is 6-4 in the last 10 and 3-2 in the last 5 and this could be a very good rivalry.

...so, why is it again that we need or want MU?

Mitch Article • Jun 01, 2017 05:54 PM

@jaybate-1.0

The true Center is disappearing in the the NBA. Only5 teams list a true starting center and most call themselves power forwards or just forwards and the stretch forward that can step outside and hit the 3 is the new trend. This trend is starting in college as well since the NBA is the ultimate destination for the better players and less players are going to call themselves centers.

Reading the story link looks like this exactly what he has been doing. From the training he is doing, sounds like he is preparing to play more like Senior Ellis, leaning towards SF more so than PF.

Unfortunately in this day and age it is hard to tell the motivation for this type of crap. Many of the recent alleged anti Muslim incidents were found not to be true or created for publicity. I really hope they find whoever did this and throw the book at them.

Interesting that it took place in Los Angeles, one of the most liberal cities in America. Had it happened in fly over country, it would have been front page news everywhere...after all we are supposed to be the racist red necks and they are the enlightened ones.

KU vs Fizzou? • May 31, 2017 02:37 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

In my post I did not mention sports at all. The Big 10 has always claimed to be about academic performance first and MU does not fit the mold and Nebraska barely does.

The latest expansion was all about markets and Rutgers with a student body twice as large as MU and the huge New York market and Maryland with the huge D.C.-Baltimore corridor were frankly no brainers.

Anyone that does marketing knows the KC metro area is all KU and neither MU or Nebraska can deliver it like KU can, that was the mistake they made but Nebraska had a solid football program while KU...not so much. Nebraska was added purely based on the potential of its football program but that was done in an earlier expansion.

Sports wise, Maryland is a powerhouse compared to MU having won men and women basketball titles in this century while MU never has even smelled a Final Four and men's basketball was already on its way back to being respectable. Maryland just swept men and women Lacrosse titles, a sport that is big on the North East and has the top swimming program in the East Coast among other sports.

You never know. Remember many thought Bragg would be a OAD and then, last season he was picked out to be the KU breakout player and projected to go lottery. Well...he is gone but not to the NBA and it will be at least 2 more years before he can even test the wasters.

KU vs Fizzou? • May 30, 2017 04:17 PM

@HighEliteMajor

Do you really think Governor Nixon made his (extremely stupid) statement about MU joining the Big 10 without checking with the university? I seriously doubt this and it was approached this way to send a message that the state government would support the move.

Frankly, I don't believe MU was ever under consideration by the Big 10 since it is a middle of the road school with no national reputation in any area and whatever little they had going in the school of journalism, was gone after what has transpired in the last few years. The Big 10 added Maryland and Rutgers, schools that dwarf MU in every area including market size. I have heard and read numerous times over the last few years that the Big 10 feels it should have added KU instead of Nebraska and it is possible, maybe even likely, that if the Big 12 folds, KU ends up in the Big 10..MU, no way.

Even Missouri residents are no longer applying to attend MU and it has experienced a dramatic drop in student body size to the point that it had to close several dorms at a time when every comparable school is growing and expanding. Why would we want restart playing a school that has lost so much prestige lately? It would only help validate them become relevant again with no upside for KU.

You really have to watch this video. I don't believe you can play any worse than this if you tried it. A volume shooter that got heavily exposed.

I bet daddy Ball is not happy.

KU vs Fizzou? • May 30, 2017 03:52 AM

Oftentimes is not what you do but how you do it. MU went begging the Big 10 for admission with the governor publicly asking only to be turned down. When everything appeared to be settled, MU moved to the SEC at a critical time for the conference placing it, and by extension KU, in a precarious situation that almost led to the end of the conference. There is no question they did it knowing well the problems they were creating, so I say the Big 12 teams owe Missouri nothing but contempt for their dastardly deed.

KU did not play them when they could have beaten them by 50 points and now that they think they might have a good team they want to play again and get some respectability and exposure? I say screw them, good bye and good riddance.

Doke Update • May 28, 2017 11:59 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

I took a look at his highlight videos and Doke almost always dunks with both hands and with authority which makes his dunks unblockable and the very few times I saw him dunk with one hand he used the right hand every time; he also shoot right handed and his baby hook is also right handed. Since he injured his left wrist, the effect will be much less than if had injured the right one. In short, he should be able to shoot and dunk without too much problems until his left wrist is fully healed and back to full strength.

What am I missing? If I have it correctly, Ayton will likely start at center and he will backed by 7' Center Dusan Ristic. Arizona will also have 4 start PF Ira LEE as well as Senior Keanu Pinder. Guards include Alonzo Trier, Rawle Alkins, Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Barndon Randolph and is likely the best back court in the PAC 12. No question Arizona is a legitimate top 10 team.

With all due respect, there is no proof whatsoever that Vick was ever put on probation. Even the Star article ↗ indicates that the process used was preponderance of evidence, which means if there is 50.1% chance that he did it and 49.9% that he did not do it then he is found guilty and probation was recommended but there is no evidence that the probation was ever implemented.

From the Star article...

University investigations use preponderance of evidence standards — which means the matter in dispute is more likely than not to be true — to determine if violations of school policy occurred. It is not known if a report was filed with campus police but Vick has not been charged with a crime.

The KU office recommended Vick be put on university probation for two years, The Star has learned. It isn’t known if Vick was ever put on that probation or, if he was, if he is still on it. He continues to play.

That office declined to discuss the case and referred The Star to Joe Monaco, director of strategic communications for KU’s public affairs office.

“Due to federal law,” he said, “and to protect the rights of all individuals involved, the university cannot comment on individual IOA investigations.”

Had they found that Vick committed a serious offense, the case would have been referred to the police and criminal charges would have been filed. If a criminal act took place and KU did not reported it, it would place itself in legal jeopardy and I would think the school would not do that even for an elite athlete.

As far as I know and according to Coach Self, he was not allowed to see the details or findings of the case and we don't know if the female in question received the same alleged recommendation or if any of it was ever implemented; if it had, I am sure the Star would have been all over it.

So let's not rush to judge something for which there is no evidence.

I believe people still have the presumption of incense until proven guilty. There is no proof that I know that he ever beat his girlfriend and it came down to case of he said-she said.

Have you heard of buyer's remorse? The son of an acquaintance of mine apparently had sex with his girlfriend (both were underage HS students) and when her father found out and went ballistic, she claimed she was raped. He was found guilty based on her word and now he is in the sex offender registry. She later recanted and now he is trying to get the conviction overturned and get his name off the registry which apparently is considerably more complicated that one would think.

We should not jump to conclusions absent proof or a conviction. The kid deserves the benefit of the doubt and presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law and not on a biased newspaper with an agenda. Just my opinion.

Doke Update • May 26, 2017 05:15 PM

@BeddieKU23

I believe he dunked during warmups not too long ago. As long as he can dunk I am not worried; he will not be doing much shooting anyway.
Big guys seem to have endurance issues but it applies more to players that are more fat than muscle. I would think that after one year under Hudy, he has converted a lot, if not most of that baby fat, into muscle and his endurance is greatly enhanced. At this time, I would be more concerned about his ability to stay out of foul trouble rather than his endurance.

@Kcmatt7

The article you quoted is 3 years old and was written 3 years after the trade in question and as you know, hindsight is always 20-20. Scola was 31 at the time of the trade and Martin 28 and both past their prime, Scola more so than Martin; Dragic was young and unproven at the time and had just finished the season averaging 7 ppg but he turned out very well and kicking butt for Miami. Odom lasted 2 more mediocre years before he was out of basketball for good...at least the Kardashians did not turn him into woman. :smile:

I don't blame Kobe for the situation with the Lakers, if I was in the same situation and was allowed to get away with what he did, I am sure I would do it too and probably you would as well. LeBron is the only other player that I can think that gets away with the same :shit:

Instead of attacking the messenger you should have read the message on the link I cited at NBA.com. If you would have done so, you would have read quotes like...

Hoiberg’s two seasons in Chicago have been mediocre at best and descended into complete dysfunction.

Or...

But going into next season, the hot seat will be Gentry! Holberg (if he's not gone already), Dwyane Casey and maybe Nate McMillan.

Or...

I'd guess that Alvin Gentry and Fred Hoiberg are sitting on the warmest seats, but both of those guys are just finishing up their second season.

All the comments coming from different analysts. Also, as much as Coach Self respects Hoiberg, I just don't see him coaching under him.

In short, while your scenarios sounds intriguing, if you follow the NBA you would know that if Hoiberg is let go (unlikely in the near term given his contract) he would not stay with the Bulls given his lack of success running the team and his likely destination would be ISU.

@Kcmatt7

Either management, i.e. president, GM and coach run the team or you let the players run the team. If you let the players run the team and decide who comes, stays and goes then whose fault is it? Players are hired employees and management makes the decisions. You don't see most teams having this problem, right? If the Lakers deferred to Kobi, whose fault is it? In my opinion, the Lakers. Players don't do anything unless management allows it. Players are like kids and will continuously push the envelope, it is up to the adults to set the limits. You cannot blame for what happen to the Lakers on Kobi while holding management, i.e. the decision makers blameless.

As far as the Chris Paul Trade, most of the League owners were solidly against it, see here ↗ and here ↗.

Coach Self • May 24, 2017 02:56 PM

@jaybate-1.0

You need to read up on what is going on in the NBA. Hoiberg has not come even close to meeting expectations ↗ and he is in the hot seat and barring a great next season he will be gone.

@Kcmatt7

A couple of items. Sterns did not block the Chris Paul trade because it would help the Lakers too much, he blocked it because it would hurt the Hornets too much since it would have taken the only valuable player the Hornets had and at the time, the NBA owned the Hornets.

Next, Kobe did not screw the Lakers, they did that all by themselves. Kobe's obligation was to himself first and to get the best possible contract he could and this is exactly what it did; the Lakers could have negotiated a better contract and yet they did not. Kobe's presence put butts on seats and the Lakers did not hurt at the gate. Keep in mind that the NBA is a business and the players are businessmen whose job is to maximize their present and future income. Remember what LeBron told the Wall Street Journal..."The first time I stepped on an NBA court, I became a businessman."

I have to disagree with you. There is very little downside to Svi coming back and a lot more upside. Svi will now know what the scouts think are the weaknesses in his game and he can work next season in improving them while at the same time completing his degree, something I understand is big with his family. Also, this is a pretty loaded draft while next year is a lot weaker and I have seen where he is already projected to be a first round pick.

We have seen parts of his game but we have yet to see him put it all together, something he has a good chance of doing if he comes back. I understand he is a good student and if he is close to completing his degree, he might choose to go pro and finish his degree on line.

Agreed. This is exactly what I wrote in my post above which begs the question do you want players that will win games for KU or players that will win games in the NBA. Since Coach Self's primary responsibility is to win games for KU I am sure he prefers the first while Calipari, who has publicly indicated his job is to place players in the NBA, prefers he second.

WE ARE A BETTER TEAM WITH SVI. • May 23, 2017 05:32 PM

Interesting. We heard a lot of analyst say KU had the best back court in college with Mason and Graham; however, UK's PG Fox is the consensus #4 and SG Monk anywhere between #5 and #7 in the upcoming NBA draft while Graham would not have been drafted and had to come back and Mason, the consensus POY and top PG is a mid second round...

The mock drafts are all over the place; I am not really sure which one has the best record of picking the correct players and positions. I have seen Swanigan anywhere from #20 to mid second round, Collins from Gonzaga anywhere from late lottery to late first round, Iwundu from late first round to late second round and Mason from as high as #29 to late second round but most have him in the middle second round.

Anyone knows which mock draft site has the best record?
