Like the new avatar global. And thanks for the quote-I miss the old sayings my parents and grandparents used, but I never heard that one. Very good.
When I read this yesterday I thought about posting "PHOF"and knew it was inadequate so I thought I'd sleep on it. Today I can't think of anything better than what's already been said. As for Camelot, if I had a magic wand I'd wave it so my kids could grow up in the world I grew up in. This site is a sweet distraction from all the bad stuff.
Spot on JHF. You need a mean look on a football uni. I remember the silly wiley wildcat (sp) at KSU when they were terrible. The logo change at KSU looked much better. Maybe someone thinks we need to sell our brand on the gridiron? Until we get respectable football seasons nobody will pay attention.
My short answer is if Joel was healthy for the dance, we make the final four last year.
Are we better this year? I have to see them play but I don't see us losing more than 5 games before the dance. At a glance-I'd say the next years team will be better unless too many (more than one) jump to the NBA early.
Baton Rouge- two Indian tribes kept having territory arguments so they put animal blood on a tree trunk to mark the boundary.
Saw that. I was excited the day LeBron went to Cleveland-and I thought it would be great for Wiggins. This Love trade ticks me off-so even though I don't follow the NBA I will make it a point to not like the Cavs from here out. A good thing about Wiggins though-he handled it with class.
Ditto, between 3 and 4. If I lived close enough I'd buy season tickets to support the team. I cherish every chance I get to be in Lawrence-let alone a game day. That said, I would probably be giving the tickets away some games.
@nuleafjhawk
Absolutely what I tune in to for a nap during the weekend.
I was wondering about the down arrow too. This is a very civil site. I rarely bother to hit a thumbs up -most the time I just follow the conversation or sometimes jump in myself.
@globaljaybird
A good dog really is hard to beat. Sorry to hear it. Does the name Woodrow come from Captain Woodrow F Call of Lonesome Dove?
Thought of Jaybate when I read this.
Hello ladies & gents,
I had two kids in KU camps last week and decided to stay in Lawrence.
The Oread and Eldridge were booked so I tried the Marriott Riverfront (Springhill Suites)
I give it a big thumbs up at a weekday rate of $109. About 100 yards east of 6th and Mass we walked up and down Mass instead of looking for parking spots every meal.
There is a train whistle across the Kaw River now and then, but it didn't bother me, in fact I enjoyed it.
- As JHF2 says, hard to control.
If we could see the Williams, Anschutz, Ward holdings we'd know a bit more. Speaking of the latter they have some extra pocket change after last week.
I wonder if I won't have to see Russell Stover on the top of the backboard camera shots in the future.
-
Rather not see them advertise in school arenas & publications at all.
And NO sponsorships. -
NO
- NO
What you and your support team have done is amazing and however you want to handle things is your call.
If you do have to start over, is there away to keep the history under a different site such as KU Buckets Archives, or REV 1, or go to KU Buckets 2 moving forward?
@jaybate 1.0
Thanks 1.0
On the road and checking in (in Wichita no less) enjoyed the read.
I saw Wooden in LA at a quiet spot on a lunch break but didn't bother him (I never bother celebrities have a meal-but I've done it twice on airplanes.). I did get to meet him signing books at his camp my kids attended when we lived in LA and spoke to him via a radio interview after he released one if not possibly his last book.
Wooden will always be one of my favorites-in the book his commitment to the west coast came because he didn't hear from a Midwest team he loved-and did not know the phone lines were dead because of a storm. When he committed to the West coast he soon learned about the lines down preventing the phone call he wanted-but he had already given his word. He could not go back on his word.
@brooksmd
Great news-they should be good together.
@truehawk93 SWEET!!!
@Crimsonorblue22
I have them both-I just might post them for fun.
At prom I sported a blue jacket with rad/black plaid pants and thick crush red velvet tie about 4" wide. Recently I saw a greeting card making fun of a geek in the exact same outfit. Looking back I feel sorry for my date that night.
@drgnslayr
Thanks much for sharing. I remember watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show on our small black and white TV.
We lived in Chicago at the time and most boys had crew cuts. My dad served during the Korean War and ran a tight ship. I don't think my hair touched my ears until after the football season my senior year in high school.
@drgnslayr
Maybe you don't want to air your personal story to all on this board. But I've seen bits and pieces in your posts that intrigue me. If you are up to it, I'd love to hear your life story as in preKU, KU, and post KU years.
@drgnslayr
Endowments have been going up at a lot of schools, but the cost of attending college the past 20 years have skyrocketed. Just back in the 70's in state tuition was $265/semester when I started and about $650 when I left.
Now it's over 10 grand. The land and buildings were paid for long ago. Not very many new additions either. So why is Texas (or KU and others) getting so much more expensive to attend? Could it be they are all trying to limit the size of each class graduating college and raise the costs so more can't afford it?
bskeet-can you assist with link.
@Crimsonorblue22
Sound advice- I just need to think that way more often because I am guilty of being right and then unhappy sometimes. At my age I should know how this works by now.
@JayHawkFanToo
Thanks so much for sharing-my son (I am near 60 so a generation is skipped) and your grandson have a few things in common- but WOW- what a resume your grandson is building. Unfortunately you are reading things right about too many activities. In this day and age of "year round club ball" etc. I have kids with excellent abilities who are being forced to choose one sport in Competitive Texas high school sports. I think that sucks. Even if they choose ONE sport, there is still pressure from band/choir etc. or other extra-curricular activities at the school to choose one and skip the rest-the opposite of how I grew up.
@JayHawkFanToo
The only reason I can figure they make a cut-off of the arc down near the base line is to make competing for that sweet spot another dimension of the game. In any event it is NOT "downtown". If and when MARV yells that-they'd better be 4 foot plus away from the line and in the case of the side would put them OB. Whoever is calling the game with him needs to set him straight.
@JayHawkFanToo
Do you care to share what GPA/ACT/SAT score puts a kid in the running to get accepted?
@JayHawkFanToo
Thanks for clarifying. My colleague might have said "aid" and I didn't catch the difference between "aid" and academic scholarship. Besides that it was decades ago and my memory isn't that good
@jaybate 1.0
About 20 years ago I worked with a Cornell grad who played football for them with an Academic scholarship.
He told me Cornell and other Ivy League schools did not offer athletic scholarships-only academic. AND, he was flat out against them starting to give out athletic scholarships.
So, I don't know what the situation is today, but it makes sense that the Ivy League wouldn't be very competitive in Div 1 Football and Basketball without athletic scholarships.
Well today the Houston Chronicle said he was on the Rockets roster-not that the Texans couldn't use his help on the gridiron.
I thought I started this thread in "warm and fuzzy"mode.
Many thanks.
Goodman tweets Andrew White will visit Notre Dame tomorrow. That's the only thing I found-that tweet.
So good luck Andrew. I hope the rest of your college days go well.
@globaljaybird
That's a great story. Do you know what any of his best marks were?
@globaljaybird
Heading to Vegas for a bBall tourney next week. I will be sure to check this place out.
The KC Star reports this great news-
Link made possible thanks to bskeet.
Congrats to Tarik and best of luck.
@drgnslayr
I tried to cut and paste a neighborhood photo I took just before Euro 2012 but I couldn't figure out how to make it work. Anyway the place was wall to wall orange for a whole block. Homes with nothing but orange paint or orange plastic tarps.
test
@drgnslayr
If so, Vail needs to hire my pool man. I've seen algae as green as that grass in a pool before but that grey stuff looks terrible.
@drgnslayr
Found it thanks, the area I stay is walking distance. I won't be there until FIFA is over so maybe we'll have some luck.
Dammit Jim, I missed all four. My bBall days on the court were over decades ago but I'm traveling with a young colleague to Amsterdam soonand it would be fun to see what he can do on that court-jet lag withstanding.
No way I want anyone but Self. I just thought we'd have two NCAA titles under him by now-and maybe the Embiid injury gives him a pass. I also thought Roy should have delivered a title.
Happy with HCBS here-just think we should have had another NCAA title by now-so if he delivers in the next year or two-I'm good with that,,,
He is a class act, funny, handles himself extremely well, etc. etc. etc.
@DoubleDD
A oh way to go DoubleDD
@JayHawkFanToo
Actually I forgot about his background when I wrote that.
What I meant was the fired up "here I come with the ball-even if I have to go through you and we both end up laid out on the court at the end of the play."
Was it Traylor, maybe Black that did that to Ridley last year-Ridley wanted no part of it and still got punished.
@Lulufulu85
Good luck on your move. Hopefully you can find coverage of KU games to help get through the Northeast winters.
"Talented",,,that leaves me out.
@drgnslayr
As much as I respect finess players like Ellis, I also think he needs to get on a diet of red meat-and learn from t-robs attitude and play. So I should back off of my "hate street ball" comment and say some players need some of that swagger and play-just not too much mixed in.
@HighEliteMajor
Just in case you are serious- memorial stadium, ku track/ku relays venue relocation-where is best-now what for Memorial stadium plans for
Football
@justanotherfan
Thanks, I missed that.
Wow, 1-2. Most impressive.
