@jaybate-1.0 "We've always been at war with Eastasia".
@Crimsonorblue22 Why don't we just change to purple...or gold and black? Makes as much sense as "sepia volcano dust gray". You have to trust me on this - I am considered a fashion expert at the cement pond :)...
@wrwlumpy We are spoiled rotten. We are ingrates to the highest degree ( myself included ). I take the criticism as loving parents who complain about their kids. They still love them, even though they want to strangle them at times.
@JayhawkRock78 I think they used the color scheme based on volcanic dust. I have dubbed those unis "the Mt. St Helens volcanic ash uniforms".
Random, meandering Jethro thoughts:
We looked like a different team the second he took out Jamari, and put some size on the court. If we run out Jamari and Perry as the starters, we will get dominated inside by everybody we play, unless we happen to schedule a middle school JV team.
Our team is suffering with very poor passing and ball handling skills - 15 turnovers, with Wayne doing a nice "bad Frank Mason" impression with drives to nowhere. Still, Jamari managed to lead us again in turnovers, so at least he remains consistent. This team needs Devonte Graham. Our offense and defense needs Devonte Graham. We aren't the same team without him. With Frank, Oubre, and Devonte, we have a very good chance of getting multiple run outs every game.
It's time to start Cliff. Quit beating around the bush- let this kid find his way.
Oubre was fantastic. He was everything Perry wasn't in the first half. I swear I thought it was Brandon Rush on one of those steals.
Kudos to Perry for not giving up, and fighting through a lousy start to make some really nice plays. I think he grew some hair on his chest from last night.
Frank looked great, played within himself, and hit several clutch shots at the right time, He is going to get better and better, imo. Sorry I sold him so short pre-season.
I don't see Greene with us next year. Wow, so much promise there.
I remain cautiously optimistic about our team, but we sure need Devonte back, and Cliff to start.
@Crimsonorblue22 Glad to hear the sun is still shining, the birds are chirping, and KU is back to winning again. Nice to hear positive perspective, although I admit I think we'll continue to look ugly winning unless we do something about those sepia colored jerseys.
What has me worried the most are the pukey grey unis that Adidas is making us wear. We must get that uniform color right, or we're going to continue to look ugly.
@BeddieKU23 it's a daunting task, but every team in the Big 12 has to run the gauntlet. 12-6 could possibly win it. I think it will be quite a weekly standings rollercoaster, with no easy games for anybody. I'm thinking we still come out on top.
SB Nation is an ingenious website. By every form of hook and crook, they have managed to fool lots of folks into thinking they were the real deal. But, they're not. They are a website that puts up college basketball blogs, writes some fluff on each team, and attempts to generate hits by writing ignorant steaming piles of horse s*it such as the "rub it in KU's face" story you reference. They have no affiliation to KU at all, yet they provide a KU bb website where no nothings write tripe about a team they know nothing about. They do the same thing with a slew of other teams. If there was an internet death penalty, and I was King Poobah..off with their heads!!! Sorry...I get a little steamed with some of their posts...lol.
@drgnslayr Maybe we should've had you in the locker room at halftime...lol. We need to toughen up...
@drgnslayr I remain very optimistic about this team. We have never had a team that I can ever remember that didn't lose games they should've won. National championship teams, and national runnersup teams that flat blew it at times. It was a horrible game- no excuses, BUT it's still one game out of forty.
This team hasn't developed yet, and are nowhere near as good as they will be by March. By March, Cliff and Kelly are going to be winning games for us, and Devonte ( praying for good health for this kid ) will be taking lots of pressure off Frank, which I think helps Frank's game.
@KUinLA Yes..."woe is us". Puhleez. 82% win percent, and you talk about him like he was a stray mutt.
@jaybate-1.0 I would be satisfied if we would better utilize the available resources that we have on hand. We hired coaches based on their recruiting ability - lets get back to teaching basketball. I miss Danny and Joe, even though Norm and Jerrace are probably better recruiters.
I wish we played defense like Louie-ville. They trap, they press, they mix in zone along with tough man to man, depending on the circumstances. They get tons of run outs every game. They have been rated in the top 10 in defense for years.
@jaybate-1.0 I think we need Devonte for a whole slew of reasons. He's one of our few shots at transition with his quick hands. We are a better defensive team with Devonte on the floor - he plays with a poise and confidence that belies his age. He doesn't speed himself up when we get behind and start repeatedly turning the ball over, like others do on the team. He doesn't blindly force offense, and he is real good at feeding his teammates. I don't think Temple's guards run roughshod over us if he's healthy, and playing major minutes.
@Shanghai_RCJH Yahtsee. I think having Devonte in the lineup helps Frank's game, as well as our team. Good point.
We have a bad game, and now we want Roy back? Oh Lordy....lol. I hate getting blown out. I hate losing any game, especially games where we act like we can't find the arena. But, it is what it is. Remember when you were a kid, and the day before xmas, the excitement built up so much that you could hardly wait for it to get there? Neither can our team. No matter who we blame for this fiasco, we'll come back and play much better ... more focused, more in tune. As for Roy....you're kidding, right?
@DoubleDD
**The Most interesting team in the world.
KU doesn't always lose but when they do, they get blown out. :frowning:**
Stay thirsty, my friend.
They just started their xmas vacation early. Merry xmas to all, and to all, a good nite.
@jaybate-1.0 It looked like to me HM was playing angry. Once you watch Landen play, and then watch HM, I could see why he's angry. I hope your hypothesis #3 turns out to be true, because that kid can score and defend, and needs to get regular minutes every game.
It was great to see Kelly make such a loud statement today. Those long arms are great for knocking balls away - that runout off the steal was a work of art. Love the lefty 3 pointers, for sure. When we get Devonte back, we could have Frank, Devonte, and KO as ball-hawking fiends. I would LOVE to see us start getting a slew of runouts.
BTW, I am so impressed with Frank. I have fallen in love with his game. He is playing so much more under control, much better decisions most of the time, and his shot has been great.
Hunter has awoke. I like him better than Landen in every way, shape and form, but that's just me.
Loved seeing Svi have some shots fall. He indicated in interviews he was practicing a lot in between practices, so that kind of work ethic will eventually pay off.
I think we're going to be a real good team come March. This is a good one.
@JayHawkFanToo Upvote for the KU payback and beatdown scenario.
@BeddieKU23 I think the only reason Oubre didn't start is because Greene played so well against G-Town, and he didn't play his way out of the lineup against Utah. But, it's simply a question of when- not if Oubre ends up in the starting lineup.
@jaybate-1.0 But Hank being a grad makes me want to know.
The New World Order, perhaps?
Merry Xmas, everyone. As I luxuriate in the fact that I've won 1 Fantasy Football title last week, and am in the championship game in two other leagues, not only are my FF teams a notch above, so is the team that I love and passionately root for. When all else fails, love truly is the answer. We ALL LOVE KU. They are like our kids. Sometimes, if someone posts something negative, it is like they are insulting one of our children. On the other hand, my parents NEVER had any problem correcting me, cajoling, threatening, and whacking me upside the head when they felt I deserved it. And my parents love(d) me as deeply as a mother and father could love their son. Two different approaches - both approaches love their team.
In my perspective, I'm really lucky to be a KU fan. Can you imagine what it must be like for a Misery BB fan right now? I used to get trolled by several brain dead Moo monkeys for years - now they're no where to be found. I remember when we didn't know if we'd make the tournament- I remember when Ted let them lose to the dreaded WSU Shlockers ...we are a world class basketball franchise. Bigger than Elvis ...bigger than the Beatles...we have 5 hungry guys with screaming steel and sex appeal. All the ladies call us "big'n" - all the men call us "SIR". This team is going to shock the pundits this year, so let's enjoy the ride...
@drgnslayr Play that changed my view on Landen: he gets the ball in perfect position on the block, he stops, sets himself, and then goes up, and gets stuffed against Utah. He is just too slow - that was a very slow white guy in the middle, and Landen made him look fast.
@jaybate-1.0 I broke out in a cold sweat. My wife took one look at me and told the children to walk slowly around me ... avoiding any sudden movements.
This is a pack of junkyard dogs who happened to stumble on a basketball court. Gritty, tough as nails, no displays, no noise, pure business. They don't shoot particularly well, they don't rebound all that good, and they turn over the ball at an alarming rate. At times, they look like they could fall apart at anytime. Then, something happens. There's a real tough wire running through the core that drives these guys to be a little tougher than the other guys. There's a certain quiet swagger that doesn't worry about the situation or the score - they just get it done. Teams like this play relaxed. Teams like this hit their free throws. Teams like this find ways to win games other teams would lose.
@jaybate-1.0 No....No....NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've been thorped before. I still have bruises.
That's a real good point there about Frank, Jethro. Do you come up with that while sitting up by the cement pond, or did you think of that while deep in double knot calculations? Maybe Granny's root cellar, perhaps?
@ParisHawk I have really noticed that Frank has really stepped up this year. I haven't been mad at him in the last several games, so either he is getting better, or I am getting less cranky. I love the way a confident Frank calmly drains the three when we need it the most. He seems to come back after he makes a bone head play, and more than makes up for it. The game appears to have slowed down for him. It would be great to have a healthy Devonte back in 4 weeks to give him some much needed rest.
@jaybate-1.0 Devonte will be an amazing leader for our team for years. I think he's really important to this year's team. He is never overmatched, and we need his ball handling skills for teams that will pressure us in the tournament. I'm hoping he's back all the way in January...
@HighEliteMajor Glad you asked that - the girl was a PTP'er , a real diaper dandy who didn't mean to get involved with a one-eyed used car salesman, so after the tenth shot of Tequila, she went dipsy doo- dunkaroo ...Vitale went straight to the hoop, and after 30 years of being rejected and denied, he slipped the kiss off the backboard...
@wrwlumpy Rookie? She looks like a pro to me....oh wait, are we talking about Wigs?
@wrwlumpy The 4 for 20 behind the arc didn't help, either. Worst loss in KU history. We had bunches of games back when Roy was coach where we were putrid from the line. The group we have now is the best free throw shooting team I can remember. Greene relishes shooting clutch free throws. He might be the best FT shooter we've ever had. Kind of hard to beat 100%, eh?
@jaybate-1.0 As a side note, I witnessed something more rare than a blue moon - I actually saw my first Perry Ellis head fake ...and it WORKED. He got fouled, and made both freebies.
I certainly hope that Cliff gets major minutes the next 4 games. Cliff could be the guy we need to provide muscle in the post.
@jaybate-1.0 Pull quote from Coach Self ( KUSPORTS.COM)
** "Self said walk-on Evan Manning could be used at the point to go with Wayne Selden Jr. and even forward Jamari Traylor in some situations."**
Our new point guard ... Jamari?
@jaybate-1.0 Is coach trying to hold this team back? Prevent them from peaking too early?
We're all over the place. For 10 minutes in the first half, we looked like a top 5 team. For 18 minutes of the 2nd half, we looked like this year's version of the Misery Tigers. Frank was great, then he was terrible. Then he hits a big shot. Perry looked amazing, and putrid. It's like having an entire team of Tyshawn Taylors this year. We won. I don't care how we got there- we got there. Winner, winner - chicken dinner...
@HighEliteMajor A penny for your thoughts ... a dollar for the photo...lol. You win hands down for the best photo:

@justanotherfan That wasn't a reference to your post. It was a reference to the dozens of posts I keep reading on every KU board about Texas. Texas, Texas, Texas. Very little is being said about the fact we turned around a bad loss, and beat Michigan St, Florida, and Georgetown on the road back to back to back. Seriously, did anyone think we would beat those 3 teams in a row after the Kensucky game? I was shaking my head with the many KU fans who predicted we would get blown out at Georgetown. Now fans are saying we would lose by 20 to Texas. Does anybody believe we can win anymore? I am very proud of what this team has done so far - I LOVE this team. I'm just saying let's give these guys a chance to develop before we write off the farm.
This post is a general venting from a myopic, defensive KU fan who bristles at any hint we aren't the best since sliced bread. Please handle accordingly....lol.
@DinarHawk Nice post. I wish our fan base would allow Texas to play themselves out of contention, like they do every year, before we spend one second worrying about them. It seems like we as a fan base are now Texas-obsessed. Everywhere I look, on every website concerning KU BB is ... "OMGTexas". They are a good team- they are a big team, but they aren't a team that will likely be in our bracket come tournament time. It would be nice to win number 11 in a row, but I'd take a Final Four appearance over another conference title any day of the week.
@bskeet I'm not impressed with Utah. I wouldn't be surprised if we beat them by double digits. Just my opinion.
@globaljaybird i guess I was about 16 when I saw the mural at the Capital building in Topeka. It was stunning...amazing. I remember it vividly.
@JayHawkFanToo I don't think we win against Florida if Coach didn't replace Svi with Graham. We are simply much faster with Devonte and Frank on the court than any other combination of players we have.
@jaybate-1.0 Ohhhh.... you stole my thunder...lol. I missed that....good call, then....
@JayHawkFanToo BTW, Utah is playing BYU on ESPNU. I can't say I'm impressed by the Utes.
@JayHawkFanToo I was beside myself over that foul. That was the epitome of the way the calls went most the night.
@HighEliteMajor Good analysis. Frank wasn't close to being 100%. Not trying to make excuses for him, but he made some nice plays to somewhat make up for his Tyshawn moments. Epiphany game for Brannen, imo. You can't teach that kind of confidence - we were absolutely brutalized ALL game by some of the worst uncalled fouls I have ever seen in a basketball game, and Greene absolutely tore them a new one. Shoved it in their face and made them like it. We need a tough SOB that doesn't take crap, and I think he's our man. I think we have a tough team, folks. Agree that Devonte played really well, and was glad to see Kelly finally get into the flow. My apologies to Jaybate - I had promised a 7 or 8 point win, and that 3 point bank shot miracle cut our win margin down to 5. Dang it, I was hoping I would hit it on the nose, my friend.
@HighEliteMajor Ugh...if you only knew how completely pissed off I get about the Louisville fiasco, you would've avoided the subject all together. He, he. I am still sick to my stomach over the decision to tell Louie to hit the road. I hate the Big 12 because of that. All you Big 12 lovers, put away your pom poms - it won't work with me. That was the single worst decision that I ever seen. Can you imagine the home and home with Louisville? What that would've done for our conference, specifically in basketball, would've been HUGE. And hey, their football program is real good as well. I hope we leave this conference at our earliest opportunity, maybe with the Kitties...maybe to the Big Ten. Honestly, to willingly be puppets of Texas turns my stomach - to put our World famous program in the hands of people who obviously could care less about basketball - like I said, it turns my stomach.
@jaybate-1.0 You know I love your posts - I just disagree with your predictions. You're great at analysis, and not so good at predictions...lol. Love ya, man!!!!
