Some real good discussion on who was the best. I used to hate Bird, but I've grown to appreciate him as time has went by. Was he as good as LeBron???? Hmmm....

@Marco We wanted to prop up shaka so we could continue to rack up wins.
@nuleafjhawk you wrote her out of the will i'm guessing...Maybe Bill sent Andrea down there in order to ensure Shaka keeps his job.
@Marco Have you noticed the NCAA hasn't said a peep about us??? I am starting to think Bshark is right- a big nothing burger.
@Marco I'm sure she has capable assistants that can step up, and continue the program Hudy put into place.
@drgnslayr I'm sure she has an assistant. The beauty of having someone wonderful like Hudy is that all the hard work has already been done. Now they probably won't be as cute or as personable at Andrea, but I'm sure they'll do a good job.
@justanotherfan I appreciate the virtue signaling.We both agree racism is bad. Especially when one thinks everyone else is a racist like Brandon did. The thought of "racism" clearly affected him.
@justanotherfan Which is why Brandon was reassigned to IT.
But I think you have still missed the key difference because you are trying to understand why Brandon failed instead of looking at why Tim succeeded.
I think you're trying to be too smart by half. My original point was that most of what holds us back is our thinking, and most of what propels us to heights that seem impossible are also due to our thinking. We get what we think. That encapsulates both gentlemen. If I didn't drone on about Tim's success enough for you, then I think you might not be understanding my point.
@HighEliteMajor Brandon needs to be let out of the prison cell his mind has created. He's a really nice guy, btw.
@drgnslayr There were two black guys working next to each other in the office where I work, and one of the guys excelled, while the other one struggled. The one that struggled would always call for help from the manager, and the other always handled his deals from start to finish. I tried to encourage the guy that was struggling, but he told me that the customers were just too racist, and wouldn't buy from a black man. I friended the struggling guy on Facebook, and got bombarded with a daily dose of racial injustices ( real or perceived ) that he furiously posted for hours at a time. I think both gentlemen found what they were looking for - Brandon found racial injustice in a world he perceived as unjust and unfair, and the successful guy got promoted to manager. Tim made bank, and Brandon posts on Facebook. Injustice is always there to be found if that's what you're looking for.
@dylans Dedric was on a different speed than everyone else. He always looked like he played in slow motion.
@Crimsonorblue22 Agreed. This is a real misstep.
I'm sad to see her go, but we'll find someone good to replace her. Maybe Tyrel ...
@jayballer73 Garrett, Harris, and McBride isn't "set". We need a Nix.
For your viewing pleasure... my man, Andre Curbelo:

@Crimsonorblue22 People weren't impressed with him.
@nuleafjhawk We all do it- myself included. I wrote off Frank Mason after his freshman year because I thought he was a ball hog, and shot too much. That was crow pie with a side of shame for me.
@nuleafjhawk I recently saw a list of players that were barely ranked in the Top 100 when they were recruited to college that were drafted in the latest NBA draft. I'll look for that tweet when I have the time. Or the unwritten rule for major leaguers: they all say that age 26 is the breakout year, and then you have a guy like Geronimo Berroa, who does absolutely nothing until he turns 30, and then starts clubbing 30 HR seasons. My point is that skills can develop. Yes, it would be nice if they were a complete package at 17 or 18, but most of the time there is further refinement that has to happen.
@nuleafjhawk Is shooting a skill? If it is, it can learned. It's like when people say major leaguers can't hit for power. Then a light hitting Brady Anderson comes along, and hits 50 in a season. Or Yonder Alonso belts 30 in a year, after hitting less than 20 the 3 years previous. Shooting is just like anything else...you practice enough, and you refine your craft, and you will get better. Selden got better. Frank got better. Devonte got better. TROB even got better, although almost all his shots were all 10 feet or less anyway. Svi got much better, and he was a 27% shooter his first year. Rele got better, although he was pretty good to start with. So, can they improve? I would say absolutely. It's been proven.
@justanotherfan He shot the over the head bolo ball shot. If they hadn't changed his shot, his percent would've been 0% because they weren't going to let him continue shooting that way. It's a miracle he didn't shoot 10% with that form.
@BeddieKU23 This team is going to make some big noise. Give Bill a team that has size, experience, and defends, and he'll get every last smidgeon out of them.
@HighEliteMajor I'm not in love with zoning the perimeter. However, i am willing to try anything, including a 3/2 zone at times, to defend the 3 ball better.
@BeddieKU23 Coaching and the scheme is a big part of it. You don't get down by 25 in the right scheme. The other part is personnel. Our guards had damn well better defend the perimeter with a front line like that behind them. I want to see us turning teams over, and getting runouts. Our defense has become so weak...so passive. I want to see pressure on the perimeter, jumping out in those passing lanes, and taking it back at them.
@HighEliteMajor Good stuff. Nice post. My ears perked up when I heard you say 3/2 zone. I would think a perimeter man to man with Silvio and Big Dave playing zone in the paint would be highly effective. When I say man to man on the perimeter, I'm talking belly button man to man. All over them. Never leave your man. No help...no hedge. I would think Big Dave's mobility would be better than Dokes, and him and Silvio would be dynamic in that defense.
@jayballer73 We haven't played real good defense in years. Last year was the bottoming out. I think last year paves the way for this year, when we will be one of the best in the country.
@HighEliteMajor So, you think a Vick would've made all the difference in our perimeter defense against 4 out teams. Interesting. The year before, the "right minded" Vick didn't seem to help us much against 4 out teams, or 5 out teams, as was the case with Villanova. Our weak link over the years has been perimeter defense - last year was the worst. I'm going to have to agree to disagree on your assertion about fielding a competent lineup last year that wouldn't get buried from the 4 out. It's not every year we get drilled by 30 in conference play, and get down by 25 at the half in the NCAA tournament.
We still would've been drilled by Auburn in the 2nd round and Doke wouldn't have made a difference. We were toast against 4 out teams last year.
I just want to say it once...FRIDAY....THANK GOD IT"S FRIDAY!!!!!
Now, back to your regularly scheduled basketball conversation...

Today's Press conference. He's raving about the hogs:

Here's the path to PT for Braun : Injuries and more injuries.
Here is Braun's interview after spending a week in our program. This is a very poised and sharp kid:
[
@HighEliteMajor I don't ever see him playing on the ball, and no one is speculating he will be a main factor this year in any way. Of course, we said the same thing about Ochai last year, so you never know.Technique can be learned, but confidence in yourself can be a tricky business. I would submit Q as a perfect example of a player devoid of confidence. Every interview he had, he talked a mile a minute ... you could feel the anxiety rushing out of every pore. I think confidence is the straw that mixes the drink...the great equalizer...
@HighEliteMajor Specifically, I was blown away with Braun's first interview with the press. Here was a guy that didn't flinch, looked completely in his element, and didn't look, sound, or act like the stage was too big for him. So, i took note. Contrast that with McBride, who sounded a little like not ready for prime time. Then Braun goes out, and scores and scores in the summer scrimmages. Then several teammates compliment him on his toughness and grit. Impressive.
I think his friendship with Ochai helps a lot. He competed for years against him, and he is watching Ochai bloom, and I think it serves as a great example that Braun can play at this level, too. I don't think Braun thinks that Ochai is that much better than him ( right or wrong), so maybe that is why Braun is so confident. I also think having Dujuan Harris sign with us helps as well, since Braun has played with him for years as well. This is all pure speculation on my part, but I think the future bodes very well with these guys, and Braun will make his mark on the program at some point in the next few years.
@HighEliteMajor Did you read the article? Several guys on the team have complimented him on toughness and his highly competitive nature, and the way he plays the game. Is there any room left at the inn? Maybe not. He might not see very much time at all next year. Or his shooting ability might propel him to get some minutes if Moss is having one of his 0 for 7 nights from 3, and it is determined that JW can't defend the 3 as well as they thought. I'm very impressed with him, for what that's worth. I like his ball handling ability, as well as the shooting touch. His intelligence on the court is really impressive, too. I think there's a lot to like about this kid. When he's a junior/senior, I think he's going to be really good. Just my opinion, for what's it's worth.
@jayballer73 I've been saying the same thing for awhile now about Braun. The team is raving about him :

@dylans Sublette...been there many times....
@dylans where you at?
@justanotherfan I disagree with Selden. He was horrid his freshman year. Then they changed his shooting style, and his numbers dramatically improved. If Coach and staff hadn't changed his technique, he would've been the pre-Marcus Garrett.
@nuleafjhawk 1996-2008.
@drgnslayr Then I'll keep cheering when we miss out on Mr. Big Time OAD. Experience wins in the NCAA- show ponies look good, but they don't win the hardware.
@mayjay I like the Rays and the Bucs, but I don't bleed for them. I think the Rays do more with less than any team in baseball.
@drgnslayr i think we're already on the right path. I love our recruits this year. I want the Devontes, the Franks, and the Agbajis of the world- the guys that unpack the bags, and are here for multiple years. No OAD mentality- no guaranteed minutes.
@Kcmatt7 It reminds me exactly of when Larry Brown took over for Ted Owens. We were in shock for months.
Utah got the book thrown at them. Look at these overwhelming penalties:
$5,000 fine (self-imposed)
8% reduction in official visits in 2018-19 (self-imposed)
A show-cause penalty lasting one year for the associate head coach, including a one-week suspension from Nov. 13-Nov. 19, 2019.
A prohibition of all four countable men's basketball coaches from off-campus recruiting for a five-day period from July 11-15, 2018 (self-imposed)
A reduction of men's basketball in-person recruiting days from 130 to 113 for the 2018-19 academic year (self-imposed)
I'm surprised they didn't take dessert away for a week...
@BShark Cleveland St must feel slighted...
@HighEliteMajor They were real bad for like two years, but then they improved. It wasn't a way of life like KC. I still root for KC against every other team in baseball except the Stros. i was glad they didn't give away Merrifield, who i like a lot.
