Frank Mason going Pro • Jul 22, 2015 08:22 PM

Well lets say he is borderline 1st rounder. Projected to go anywhere from 25th overall to 40th overall. Does he, remembering he has a kid and is a college student with basically no money right now, go pro then? Because that is where I would see him projected personally. Isaiah Thomas went last pick in the second round. Chris Paul went 4th overall. So you would think a 15 ppg and 6 assist season from Frank would net him somewhere in the middle of that. I would take my chance at that point if I were him.

Frank Mason going Pro • Jul 22, 2015 07:47 PM

This notion seems to keep gaining momentum! Today I read a bleacher report article saying he was potentially gone. De'Aaron Fox made comments about KU, and it seems that if Mason is gone, Fox is coming to KU. And to me, his comments sounded like our coaches have talked to him about Mason not being here next year.

Strengths:
- Can score amongst the trees.
- Good Rebounder for his height and position.
- Tough as nails.
- Leader on the floor
- Hits open 3's.
- Great ball handler

Weaknesses:
- Height
- Low steal numbers.
- Doesn't necessarily create for others.

He is clearly the best PG in the Big XII (I know Morris for ISU and Taylor for Texas are both good, but lets be honest, no Frank). So, if we put together a 30 win season and a deep run in March, do we still see a Jayhawk wearing number 0 next season? IF that happens, I say he won't be here. Only because his stock will never be higher. Just my thoughts, but I'd obviously love to hear some more.

Wiggins • Jul 22, 2015 06:14 PM

@drgnslayr It was a HORRIBLE trade for several reasons:
1. Wiggins will have a better career than Love. He is clearly the next superstar in the league.
2. He would have been cheaper than Love for about 4 years.
3. They would have been more versatile on offense as you could go "small" putting Lebron at the 4 and not actually lose any size. Or you could go "BIG" and have FOUR 6'8 guys or taller. And if that isn't scary I don't know what is.
4. Wiggins would have had plenty of time to develop as Kyrie and Lebron were both hurt at the beginning of the season. Plenty of games where he would have been the main threat and had to develop the killer instinct he got in Minnesota.
5. Cavs love to play in transition. Who is better in transition? Love or Wiggins.
6. Your defense is unquestionably better with Wiggins. Love Brings nothing to the table in that arena. You could put Bron Bron on the best player and Wigs on the 2nd best and vice versa. Having two 6'9 uber-wings isn't even fair!

That's all I could think of. I'm sure you guys could come up with more, but that is at least my take on why they totally F'd up.

ROYALS vs Pirates game 1 • Jul 21, 2015 04:57 PM

I was at the game, and to me it just felt like after we gave up the 4 early runs that Ned conceded the game. He left Ventura and Medlen in too long. Not to mention our bullpen was fresh after Duffy went deep Sunday. Ned didn't even give us a shot to win.

Quality Control • Jul 21, 2015 04:49 PM

@globaljaybird he does have about 3 months to put on some strength though!! I think it is more up to him and his current mentality. If he sees the opportunity he has to jump to the front of the line, and busts it this offseason, he could slide into some extra minutes for sure. If he is just happy to be here, getting the spot minutes, and taking over the team next season, then that's what'll happen. A lot of it is just in his hands.

@HighEliteMajor If we want to talk about Wayne "playing free", how did him playing with the good ole USA on the front not come up?? He was playing a lot more "free" than most of the other countries players!!

But in all seriousness, I don't think I am trying to dismiss your responsibilities as much as you are putting too much emphasis on them. We are talking 3 MAYBE 4 times a game resetting the offense or popping out to catch a pass, maybe taking 1 or 2 dribbles, and then immediately passing it back to the PG. Could Svi or Devonte do that? Absolutely!

Did position move have an impact on Wayne? I would be crazy not to say yes. But, I only think a slight one. I believe all of the other reasons offered up so far would have a greater impact than the position switch. (Maturity, Self's reigns, pecking order, patriotism, etc.)

And I think you and I both know that quotes from coaches have to be taken with a grain of salt...Especially during the offseason.

How Many Excuses For Wayne? • Jul 21, 2015 06:02 AM

@KUSTEVE I do love Svi! But only because he clearly has his mind set on becoming great! All the stuff in the weight room this summer is awesome. I mean when is the last time we heard someone put on 15lbs (already! Could be more come November) or put as much time in during the offseason. The most recent in my mind is T-Rob. And I may be premature in my love for Svi. So, I will admit to being biased towards Svi in all of our debate. Part of it is I just want the kid to succeed as bad as he clearly does! Part of it is I just don't see greatness from Devonte. I see a lot of goodness. And maybe I'll be saying that a lot at the TV screen this year as Devonte proves me wrong and crosses three defenders for a ridiculous bucket. Time will tell. I do love hearing how people see the team though! Really makes ya think...

@HighEliteMajor First, You bring all of those up comparisons (because you know the answer already) but you leave out B Mac and Releford? Why? Because B Mac was able to put up 16 points and 5 boards a game? And has a very similar skill set to Selden. Much more comparable than any other single person you brought up. Also, none of those teams had a 6'8 potential lottery pick just chillin.

Second, I am not saying him playing with a "free mind" didn't contribute to it. I COMPLETELY agree that Self allowing him to play without the worry of sitting on the bench was key. It allowed him to develop and instill some much needed confidence. I'm sure Bill noticed that too.

How Many Excuses For Wayne? • Jul 20, 2015 07:58 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I never thought that the "basketball" side of Svi needed too much work. It was clear he just wasn't physically or mentally mature enough to handle the situation. His basketball skills and IQ shouldn't be questioned. If you think back to where you were at 17, a Junior in High school, think about how mentally inept you would be to play a sport at such a high level. At that age your confidence get shook from the littlest of things.

So put yourself in his shoes. You are a Junior in HS, but It's your first game in a KU jersey. You feel the pressure of 16,300 people wondering how good this Ukranian freak is going to be? You go to check in and the crowd immediately starts cheering. You finally get that open shot... And Airball. Your adrenalin is pumping so hard you accidentally shot the ball 5 feet over the rim straight into the backboard. You hadn't missed a shot that badly in a long time. So immediately you are freaking out (because c'mon you just embarrassed yourself in front of everyone) and think to yourself "let me just shoot another 3 to prove to everyone I can shoot." Except, uh oh, you nearly do the same thing. Your confidence is shot. And at this point, you are flinching just trying to make a layup.

And that is how his season was. These pressures and expectations that he couldn't live up to and you couldn't even imagine at 17 years old. Now, he has had a year to adjust both mentally and physically. He has no excuses this season. He has had an entire offseason to bulk up and shoot so many 3's that calling it muscle memory won't be doing it justice. I just can't wait to see it.

@Statmachine Believe me I'm on your side. Resetting the offense shouldn't be SO taxing that Wayne becomes a no-sho. And it isn't like we are expecting him to break the press for an entire game. Teams like WV and Shaka's Havoc are going to make us play a lot of Devonte and Frank together for ball security purposes. That is just good sense. But, all the other teams that don't put that kind of ball pressure shouldn't even have him batting an eye. Hell, him resetting a play this season might just mean a 1-4 iso drive scenario that we weren't comfortable letting him do last season.

Also, many of you bring up that Selden needs to play the 2 to increase his draft stock. I would agree with that statement. Self would too. Self also knows that he has to get players to the NBA in order to recruit these so called "stacks." So, it is in Selden's, Self's and the Program's long-term interest to have Selden playing a lot of 2. And doing it well.

@JayHawkFanToo Yea there is a reason Turner didn't get the Nebraska job when it was open...

@Crimsonorblue22 @JayHawkFanToo can't we all just agree that firing Mangino was the mistake in the first place?

@Statmachine PREACH!!

I mean maybe i'm crazy but in Self's system I just don't see much of a difference in the 2 or the 3. Maybe a few times going in for offensive rebounds. But other than that I just don't see a difference. B Mac is a great example of what a 2 can do in Self's system. And, like you said, you just saw the light turn on for Selden during the tourney. It wasn't that he was playing the "3." He didn't drop 20 point games because he made that move. He didn't finish around the basket better because of some allocated number on his position. He did it because he was aggressive, while still letting the game come to him. He can still be aggressive playing the "2." See Wayne vs Florida. It can be done folks.

I guess my other thoughts are this:

Devonte very may well start and be better than Svi. But, Devonte doesn't provide a favorable mismatch in my eyes. Svi has the obvious size advantage, and thus creates mismatches we wouldn't have with Devonte. On top of that, everyone can tell Svi has the "it" factor that Devonte doesn't have. I can't envision Graham going off for 25 points at all this season. Svi seems to have that ability. If he puts an early 3 in, look out! Then you don't just have a mismatch. You would have a matchup nightmare. Who guards Svi? Who guards Wayne? Oh wait, Frank just drove in and made a layup again because we can't help off of anyone right now.

@KUSTEVE I like what you're saying that Devonte. But, Don't you think that you really need to look more at how he played most of the season over just the one game? Over the last 11 games of the season he had 20 turnovers while averaging 20 minutes a game. Our worst stretch of the season... And not good for our second best ball handler. He does play decent defense, but he only averaged a steal a game. Nothing special. I guess I just see a very average season from him. especially if he hasn't had a chance this summer to get better at anything. I hope you're right! I think I'm going to stay on "team Svi" for a breakout player over Devonte though. Just purely on the upside. And the fact that if Svi does, nobody can match up with us.

@KUSTEVE what makes you think Devonte becomes a star this year? One more so than Svi? I'm just curious if it is a gut feeling or something you're seeing and would like to enlighten me on!! Because the current situation I think actually plays more into Svis hands. Devonte has missed most of this summer to develop with his injury. And I would think it will be hard for him to replicate his 40% from 3. Where Svi is the opposite. He has put on a lot of muscle and spent the whole summer in the gym. He shot a horrid 3pt% last year but it is clearly in his arsenal and should improve. I just feel like maybe I'm missing something. A lot of people don't expect much out of Svi but a ton out of Devonte. like I said, maybe I just need to be enlightened.

Cheick Diallo • Jul 19, 2015 01:05 AM

You guys don't think that Diallo guards McKay?

Cheick Diallo • Jul 19, 2015 01:04 AM

You guys don't think that Diallo guards McKay during the ISU games?

Cheick Diallo • Jul 18, 2015 06:22 AM

@JhawkAlum I'm on the same page as you. And people that keep bringing up the 2 MVPs. I'm not sure they even watched those games. He was the only one who played real D and rebounded. It was streetball, not real basketball. I love the motor, but is that enough? If you don't have to guard him arent we just back where we were with Cliff? (Except Cliff could actually hit a 12' jumper). Just saying, they both have a similar skill set. The difference is Diallo comes with a motor. But as I said, is that enough?

Big 12 bb • Jul 16, 2015 06:55 AM

@drgnslayr You can't force a rivalry. Just because they are in state doesn't mean it would be a rivalry. We just have to smash them one time and they are put back in their place. As a student, I don't feel the natural aggression towards the Shockers that a rivalry needs. I think that ISU is actually our next major rivalry if they can continue their programs success in the future. The student bases do things to piss each other off and the games lately have been so intense that it feels more and more like a rivalry every season.

WUG Stats And Comparisons • Jul 16, 2015 06:36 AM

Love the stats! A couple of things I would say about them though.

  1. The Devonte vs. Nic isn't really a fair comparison. It is interesting! But, Moore's stats don't consider he has only had a month in the system. Plus the fact that Nic played a majority of all the games where Devonte got to have fresh legs most of the time he was on the court.

  2. I agree that Vick was a nice surprise! I wouldn't go so far as to call him a "veteran like" player as he did make some freshmen, or Jamari, type of mistakes. But, I think he has the potential to make Greene be the odd man out this season. The reasons being, I think he could shoot 40% from 3, and at 6'5 with impressive quick-twitch muscles, he could end up being a much better defender than Greene and fit much nicer into an up-tempo offense should we (hopefully) want to play that way more this season.

All good things must come to an end. • Jul 14, 2015 04:09 AM

So now that we got our once in a lifetime opportunity to see our Hawks play this summer, and we got to watch them will their way to a Gold medal. (Seriously how awesome has this summer been?) We now must move on to what lies ahead.

This season has HUGE implications, and our players should be extremely motivated! Fist and foremost, we still have the streak to keep alive! And we have a very solid Iowa State team, along with Buddy Hield and an always competitive WV ready to take us on. Now, I may be one of the few that is truly amazed by the streak. It is proof that Self, while he may not be the best coach in the Nation, sure as hell is the most consistent. And we have been spoiled since he has been here. Seriously, a "down year" for us was a #2 seed in the Tourney.

On top of that, we have been the butt of the joke for the major programs after losing early in the tourney lately. And its best time we stick it to everyone. The players and Self should have a chip on their shoulders right now, and it doesn't come off until another banner is hung in AFH.

Finally, now that we have a had a sneak preview I think it is time for the serious debates over who starts, and how minutes should be distributed. So, I guess I'll kick us off!

Starting 5:
- Mason- 28 minutes regular season. 38 Post season. The heart and soul of our team. But, we need to cut his minutes down. He clearly wore out late in the season and then just lost confidence. We play Saturday and have quick Turnarounds to Mondays nearly every week. He needs a few extra minutes off.
- Svi- 25 minutes regular season. 22 Minutes Post season. While we are in for what looks to be a special year, I don't think a NC happens without him being a legit threat.
- Selden- 28 minutes. Regular Season. 33 minutes Post Season. He is going to be our leader this season. But, like I said, we have enough talent and we need to keep our guys fresh all season. You saw Wayne become MUCH less effective around the rim when his legs went dead. And that was his biggest asset during the WUG.
- Perry - 28 minutes Regular Season. 30 Minutes Post Season. He is Perry. We know what he is going to be and yet, I think thats a good thing. You need that consistency from someone in the post.
- Hunter- 16 minutes Regular Season. 22 Minutes Post Season. I just think that sometimes you start the guys that gel best together. And the confidence the players had in Hunter by the end of the WUG was great. You saw all of them click together. For that reason alone I don't think you see Diallo start.

Bench:

  • Devonte- 25 Regular Season. 22 Post Season. He is going to be huge this year and allow us to be versatile. He can sub in for any of the other 3 starters at any given moment. He will be on the floor in late game situations for sure as well.

  • Greene - 12 Regular Season. 3 Post Season. With an injury, his improvement should be minimal. So, you can expect the same out of him.

  • Vick - 3 Regular Season. 0 Post Season. He is still a freshmen. He is skilled enough to come in and give us a spark when needed, but there is still a pecking order.

  • Bragg - 5 Regular Season. 5 Post Season. I like what he offers. But I just think I'll like it a lot better next season.

  • Diallo- 24 regular Season. 28 Post Season. He needs to be a force.

  • Lando- 5 Regular Season. 2 Post Season. If he know his role he could be productive in key moments for us.

  • Traylor- 5 Regular Season. 3 Post Season. He's maxed out his potential it seems.

Notes:
- I know that a lot of people have/want Devonte to start. I just think he provides us with the most versatility off of the bench.
- I like Hunter to start ALL SEASON. Why? Simply for gelling purposes with our older players. It could allow us to get off to a good start, and then BAM we hit you with Diallo running 1000 mph end to end to really stomp on your throats!!!!
- Finally, we have too many bigs that minutes are going to be spare. Yet, we could use this to our advantage. It could allow us to run and push tempo more and use an almost Hockey like substitution system. Just play as hard as you can for 4-6 minutes at a time and then we can get you a breather.

The Miracle on Wood • Jul 13, 2015 09:35 PM

@JhawkAlum Yea it works well because it doesn't allow the opposing team to double the handoff without giving up a much easier bucket. So no matter what it allows a decnt look at the 3.

The Miracle on Wood • Jul 13, 2015 09:24 PM

@JhawkAlum I love it just from the reasons you gave. There are a TON of variations. And with it, you can lull your opponents to sleep for an unexpected bucket. I would say that we have seen only a sample size of plays that Bill can run off of it. And that is why he sticks with it.

National Media Blackout! • Jul 13, 2015 02:44 PM

I think the games were great for us as a team. Clearly the reaction to the win from the players was amazing and created a great bond.

BUT, I am honestly very upset with the lack of coverage by major sports networks. I wouldn't be, except for last summer Kentucky did their little stupid Bahamas tour, and it got HUGE coverage on ESPN. And, why that may seem small, that is extra marketing for UK that we didn't get. I just don't get how Coach Cal has turned himself in to such polarizing figure for the sports media.

Side Note: Duke looks to be bringing in #1 and #2 recruits... We could REALLY benefit from an early commitment....

I think that the WUG and boot camp are trying to accomplish completely different things.

I have coached HS football for the past 4 years and every summer we play in a weekend long contact camp. This is for coaches to see what we have, and allow some players to earn some confidence before the season. It is basically the same thing as the WUG has allowed us to do.

Then, right before the season we have 2-a-days. These are for, as many people pointed out, a team building and mental exercise more than a physical one. 2-a-days started back in the day when players would go home for the summer and come back out of shape. Nowadays, the players have been working out all summer and are in great shape. But, coaches have found out that 2-a-days and boot camps are helpful in building comradery. They build mental preparation, push players beyond limits they thought they could go, practice not letting down the team, and force players to bond.

Because this team is so deep, and we have such high expectations this season, I would argue that we not only NEED boot camp, but it should be HARDER than it has ever been. With the talent we have, I want our players to be able to push through being tired and beat up and stomp teams into the ground like we should. I want our guards to all be so mentally tough that comparing them to Sherron won't even do it justice. I want our bigs to be so in tune with each other they have better telepathy than the Morris twins. I want everyone on our team so focused that they can spell Mykhailiuk without even thinking about it. I want this team to have butterflies in the pits of their stomachs right now because they know they are talented enough to put together a historic season.

Burnt Ends • Jul 10, 2015 04:05 PM

@HighEliteMajor The fact that of those guys listed in that article, a35-40% stayed another year or more. I probably should have stated that. So players similarly ranked and at the same position, about 40% stayed. That's all I meant to say by that.

Burnt Ends • Jul 10, 2015 12:44 AM

Adding to my point that you can't presume Diallo a OAD is this KC Star article.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/campus-corner/article19399905.html ↗

Its more like a 60% chance he leaves if you ask me...

@wissoxfan83 As concise as I can make it.

Some pretty good competition. Most of the opponents are older and have played professional ball for years.

WAYNE FREAKING SELDEN. Been the best player in the tourney hands down.

Hunter has been super solid. Coming out party honestly.

Frank has been Frank.

Freshmen:
- Bragg looks decent for a freshmen who has practiced with the team for 3 or 4 weeks. Obviously needs to get stronger.
- Vick clearly looks like he will be a stud down the road. Can hit the 3 and has been athletic.

Lando: Sucks. Been awful. And thats being nice I think.

Burnt Ends • Jul 10, 2015 12:24 AM

I don't presume Diallo to be OAD. I think he is so raw on offense and until he proves he is a shot blocker at the college level he is going to be back. I hope he does prove that and that he can develop quickly. We just need a Montrezl Harrell type of season out of him. He just needs to be intimidating in the lane and make energy plays.

IF he does holy crap. I mean with the way Wayne and Frank are dominating, and the projection of how Svi is going to look this season we should be in for a 30+ win season.

My last thought. I know I'll be in the minority. But I still think Svi is going to start this year. Only because if he plays like I think, and many NBA scouts think, guarding him AND Wayne at the same time is going to be a friggen nightmare. Plus, just if Frank gets in foul trouble that spells a long game for Devonte. Or worse, they both get in foul trouble and we have no point. I want to run two guard, just maybe not to start the game.

Paschal Chukwu to Syracuse • Jul 02, 2015 03:24 AM

@drgnslayr Totally agree with you. Similar to a LaMarcus Aldridge.

Paschal Chukwu to Syracuse • Jul 02, 2015 01:43 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I just don't think you can say Bragg will be back next year with certainty. The kid is uber-athletic for his size and can consistently knock down a mid-range jumper. Sounds like and NBA big man to me.... Especially at 6'10-6'11.

Paschal Chukwu to Syracuse • Jun 29, 2015 08:53 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 You are right that Chukwu is the better long-term option. But, perhaps Bill thought we didn't need a long-term big. Next year Lando was going to be our only guaranteed big to be back. Because of that, a guy that can put in productive minutes that season is more important than one that will make a bigger impact down the road. Think Justin Wesley almost. (Hopefully better than that though).

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class • Jun 12, 2015 08:51 PM

@justanotherfan @Texas-Hawk-10

And it allows the player to get in a rhythm. If you were to get two early fouls and sit for 17 minutes then halftime you have no flow as to how the game is going anymore. But, if you wait and let them play the next 5 minutes, they can get a feel for the game and come out ready to go in the second half.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class • Jun 11, 2015 02:08 AM

I'm doing this on the fly as I type. But I'm breaking it down into two grades for each player. The first being immediate impact and the second being future impact.

Diallo
- 9.5/10 immediate need. (Only because he isn't 7ft)
- 5/10 future impact. Not sure he will be OAD, but if he is it still helps future recruiting.

Bragg
- 9/10 immediate need. (Need some scoring help in the frontcourt outside of Perry).
- 9/10 future impact. Odds are he is around for another year and will be THE guy.

Vick
- 4/10 immediate need. (Not sure what to think of him still. Should barely see the floor, but I could be wrong).
- 9/10 Future impact. A rangy SG with a solid upside. I like his future in the program.

Colbey
- No grade for immediate need. So stacked at the frontcourt that this seems to be a great move.
- 7.5/10 Future impact. I like the toughness I've seen. Seems like he will be a solid rotation guy.

So adding all of that together I came up with roughly a 7.5/10.

So my inside source told me that they sold Chukwu on walking on as we expected. But, they said he loved the idea and was eating it up. Apparently his parents/guardians are doing ok on the money aspect.

On top of that, he worked out for the coaches here and he didn't on his Nebraska visit.

whats up with Vick? • Jun 02, 2015 06:28 PM

There is such a thing as a "Run off" waiver that could be used.

This would allow a player to be eligible for immediate transfer providing the head coach admits that he cut the player from the team without any misconduct. The player would also have to be in good academic standing.

The reason most coaches don't do it is because they have to admit they kicked a player off of the team for essentially no reason and that looks very bad when recruiting.

But, I believe this would allow someone like Hunter or one of the bigs who wants to leave to actually transfer schools and not have to sit out a year. It could easily be a mutual benefit for us and a guy like Hunter.

Dwight Coleby To Kansas • Jun 01, 2015 09:06 PM

"Coleby could play a big role tonight to provide some more size in the Ole Miss lineup. After a strong freshman campaign, Coleby is having another solid season off the bench for the Rebels. He is a very good rebounder, especially on the offensive glass, and finishes everything around the rim."

-Scouting report I found on him before the played Kentucky.

I think he is going to be a decent player. Probably nothing truly special, but if you look at next years bigs, odds are they are Lucas and Bragg. That means we would be relying on 2 freshmen to fill a lot of minutes. Coleby is just insurance. He is a solid role player at the very least that can come in off the bench and give solid minutes. Something we will need when he is finally eligible.

VICK TO DECIDE THIS WEEK ON 2015 OR 2016. • May 28, 2015 03:05 PM

If he does reclassify, how do you think minutes get dispersed? I honestly don't think he plays and gets a redshirt. He has to put on at least 10lbs of muscle before he can hang IMO. But, WUG and the exhibition games could easily change my mind.

Here is my thoughts though:

Backcourt: (120 Minutes)

  • Mason - 30

  • Selden - 30 (Based on last 2 seasons)

  • Svi - 30

  • Graham - 17

  • Green - 13

  • Ellis or Bragg - Spot/Emergency

  • Vick - RS

Frontcourt: (80 Minutes)

  • Ellis- 28

  • Diallo - 22

  • Bragg - 17

  • Lucas- 12

  • Traylor - 8

  • Mickelson - 3

WUG - Pluses and Minuses... • May 20, 2015 02:57 PM

@REHawk I could maybe see a Wake Forrest guy... Danny trying to stay in good graces and could get a guy to get extra work in a similar system. Just a thought that seemed logical.

@Statmachine AMEN. and who's to say Bolden doesn't come here still? If he is thinking long-term we should still be considered regardless.

@nuleafjhawk look at it this way, if he isn't around long it was a great pickup. I'd rather him come in and have an amazing season and leave than him have 2-3 mediocre seasons.

Vick commits • May 18, 2015 01:49 PM

@Lulufulu I don't think he comes in and crowds the back court. I wouldn't be totally shocked to see him redshirt. If he was already planning another year of prep school like they say, then he probably is open to the idea if it means more PT down the road.

Bleacher Report says... • May 18, 2015 01:39 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Great post! haha. But seriously, I would agree except that he can come in and work with an amazing college strength coach for an entire season, practice with the team, and learn the playbook before we might actually need him. It wouldn't surprise me to see him redshirt this season either. If we have an injury or something we can rip his redshirt and he can fill in as needed.

So the coach left. Now What? • May 14, 2015 04:11 PM

He is 8.

You forgot William Hamilton on the list.

@JayHawkFanToo Oh I totally understand what highlight videos are. I just was attempting to get people excited about the kid. I realize that he only shot about 30% from 3 on average in his international play. But you have to look at some of their scores. His team was pretty bad, so he is shooting some desperation shots just to try and keep his team in the game.

@justanotherfan I was going to disagree with you about Bragg at the 3 until I watched this video. (Just skip to 4:40). I didn't realize how well he can handle the ball well for his size. He definitely needs to work on his left hand a bit still both shooting and dribbling, but I'm still impressed.

@jaybate-1.0 You definitely might be right that he will need an extra year, but I personally believe he is about to explode. Per my source, he has been putting in a ton of work already and has been dominating at practice.

I'll even make a bold stat prediction for him.

Ppg: 12 Reb: 3 Assists:4 Steals: 1

Just go Rewatch this if you feel a lack of confidence in Svi. His 3 point shooting is going to get better for sure next year. He will go to the rim more. He might even lead the team in assists next year with the vision he has. Guy is going to be a stud. Just imagine being 17 and dealing with all he was dealing with last year. No way he had a shot at being good. Last season will not be indicative of how good he can be. He was dealing with a new country, new basketball rules, new teammates, new coaches, new everything.

I mean here is a great example of what Svi was going through at the beginning of last season:
One of my friends is a manager on the team and Svi came into the managers office to ask for something early in the season.

He starts pointing down and saying that he wants a "spanking."

"You want a spanking Svi?"

"Yes a spanking."

"I don't think you want a spanking Svi...."

"Yes a spanking." And he goes and points to a pair of slide on sandals.

"Ohhh. Gotcha. Some FLIP FLOPS."

Hopefully Svi will put a spanking on everyone this next season.
