I think this is a generational deal. I feel the uniform designs are geared more towards what the recruits and their peers like. If you give them the choice of this:
!Old Helmet ↗

or these:
!Newer Helmet 1 ↗

!Newer Helmet 2 ↗

!Newer Helmet 3 ↗

I'd guess they're going to go with the newer ones. And I think KUs hopes are that these new, flashier designs catch the eye of some of their recruits and gets a foot in the door. Now if we had a winning tradition in football like Bama, ND, and OU or like our MBB then I would say we don't need flashy gear to get these kids attention but unfortunately we don't have that luxury. Anyone know the players and recruits take on the gear??

I mean it could be worse and we could have this Arizona State design...:

Tait has had a couple of articles (not) updating us on the search. The first was about Harbaugh Read article... ↗ and just how close he was to being the FBHC before good ol' Lew screwed the pooch, figuratively. Now, do I think he was that close, uhhh hell no. ^1^ And now the latest piece is about Gary Barnett, go ahead, I'll wait for you to Google search who that guy is.... Read article... ↗ and his interest in the job. Tait thinks the Barnett interest in our job will only help us and it's free publicity. Yes, publicity from a known NCAA rules breaking jackass that hasn't coached since 2005 when he left CU amid scandals. USA Today Article ↗ This article is all about what happened back in Barnett's tenure at CU. Do we really want our brand to be associated with a guy that has made these comments in the past about alleged sexual assaults committed by his football players??? This guy is bad news. I don't care if he's found Jesus, Allah or the Eighth Dynamic I wouldn't consider him for water boy. If I'm Zenger I call Barnett asap and kindly ask him to please refrain from expressing interest in our FBHC position.

^1^ noticed this after I posted it. and it's too funny to just correct. He = Harbaugh and not Uncle Fester. I know for fact that Lew did actually screw the pooch.

Best case and worst case. • Oct 08, 2014 03:44 PM

@HighEliteMajor - I saw where @JayHawkFanToo suggested that without Wiggins we may not have gotten Oubre or Alexander. Maybe not. Let's say we don't get Oubre, since he was sold in part on taking Wiggins spot. So, we don't have Wiggins or Oubre.

Since this thread is best case, worst case and you gave best case for this year I'll go the other direction.

So we didn't get Wiggins and everyone turns out the same as they did last year...

Without Andrew we lose to Duke early in the year. In the BFA instead of beating Wake because of Andrew's strong second half we lose to them. With that loss there's no need to worry about our L to Nova because we'd be playing USC who I think we would have beat just like Wake did. In the 5th place game for the BFA we woudl have played Tenn and just like WF we post an L. We get to come back to the states and head to Boulder to pick up another L right before Florida slaughters us putting us below 500. Next up is NM who we beat with out Wiggins because of foul trouble so we get back to 500. We beat G'town and Toledo then of course SDSU kills us. Sitting at 7-6 before conference play even starts.

In league instead of the four L's we got we double that number. Here's how: ISU and OSU beat us at home and away. We lose the WVU there but by even more this time, we still lose to Texas and KSU away and then the last L is the close one at Texas Tech in which Wiggins scored the layup at the end. So in league we go 10-8. Regular season isn't looking so great at 17-14.

What's 17-14 (10-eight) get us for the tourney?? 5th seed in the Big12 tourney facing off against 4th seed KState. (KState wins the tie breaker since they went 1-1 vs #1 seed ISU) We split the regular season with KSU but at their house it took overtime to beat us so we win on a "neutral" court. Next would be 1 seed ISU and we go out to them. Now we're 18-15. Ouch.

Now 17-14 was WVU regular season record from last year and they didn't get into the tourney. But we're a big name having a down year so we go as the lowest seeded Big12. NC State move up to an 11 somewhere and we take their place in the First Four games that pits 12 seed Xavier versus 12 seed Kansas? We're the 12 vs 5 that always screws peoples brackets. Everyone picks this 12 to upset the 5 of SLU. SLU was the only 5 to survive last year. They are in this scenario as well. We go home in the second round (aka first round).

No Wiggins = less media attention. No KO to fill AW shoes. Cliff picks up an Illini hat and doesn't do a fake out. Svi is scared and doesn't want to go to a team that struggled so badly so he's headed to Virginia instead to show case his talents. Graham stays closer to home because KU isn't trending on Twitter with the top two in the draft talk. All that love is in Kentucky who just cut down the nets with Wiggins as their leading scorer. So instead a class of Svi, KO, Cliff, and Graham we get a Royce, Milton, B. Anderson, and T. Appleton.... Reloaded.

Pop retires after their great run in the playoffs and Bill fields a phone call. Not only are we shopping for a FBHC this year we also had to replace our BBHC that's now hanging at the Alamo. Zenger hasn't shown he can hire the right guy for the job with our lowly FB program. Let's just hope Zenger doesn't hire Charlie Wise 2.0 to take over the BB program. KU starts the year unranked. Missouri basketball players still mug people in this scenario. We hire Bruce Weber.

Kansas Dorm of the Future... • Oct 07, 2014 07:41 PM

!Photo ↗

Kansas Dorm of the Future... • Oct 07, 2014 01:49 PM

@drgnslayr : I don't think there are two national championship rings in the photo. It goes in order from the left with the ring from 2005 that started it all to the latest addition from last season at the right.

@KULA : KU is the only consistently ranked Big12'er in the top 10 (around 3-6 in the ones I can find) early preseason brackets. Texas makes an appearance as number 9 on one but in the others they're lower double digits (11-13). Iowa State hovers around 13 to 17 range. Other Big12 teams are OU that's and KSU. OU is in the mid to late teens with KSU on one bracket in that range but completely missing from the others. Probably ranked in the others as 26 or 27 on those brackets. So to answer your question KU is a possible FF team with Texas and ISU as outside chances.

@JayHawkFanToo : @KUSTEVE is referring to the 2012-2013 season in which the Mountain West Conference was ranked as the number one conference RPI wise.... Here's the proof --> CBS Sports RPI Rankings ↗

@DoubleDD : Just saying that even if the network over hypes the ACC it still doesn't mean it's not a tough conference. I'm proud of the fact that KU has bragging rights against other Big12'ers and no I don't think any other school could have duplicated our feat of being consistently good. But do you think we could duplicate the same feat in the Big10 or ACC??

@JayHawkFanToo : Never said the Big12 wasn't tops. Said the BE wasn't better than the ACC. The Bleacher Report MCBB early preseason polls ranked by their so called experts have Big12'ers KSU at 18, OU at 15, ISU at 13, Texas at 11, and KU at 3. They ranked 'Nova 12, the only BE team in their poll. For the ACC they had Louisville at 10, Virginia at 9, Duke at 6 and the UNC at 5. That's what my beef is all about. How can the author of the title article think that the BE is better than the ACC when they've got 4 teams in the preseason poll? When are we hanging the banner for the best conference RPI??

@DoubleDD : Not disagreeing that the network over hypes the ACC but I'm not so addicted to the KU Kool aid to think that we'd still have this amazing conference title streak if we had those teams (Duke, UNC)in our conference instead. Duke has one title and UNC two since our run started. That's more titles than Big12 -KU FF appearances. Thanks a lot mizzou.

Also the ACC with 5 in out of 15 is 33% vs 3/10 for BE. The BE may have fewer teams that don't make the tourney (7 vs 10) but they do have more teams that'll be watching the tourney at home percentage wise. Last year the top two teams in SEC were better than the top two for us which is really what matters. Who cares if our bottoms feeders are better than theirs? Does anyone know if TCU or Texas tech beat their respective SEC school? Probably not. But everyone knows KU lost to Florida.

@JayHawkFanToo : I read the criteria. ACC is penalized for having more teams. You can't argue that they diluted their product though with their recent additions. Syracuse. Louisville. And even Notre Dame have all made the tourney in recent years with Louisville winning it two years ago. Give me two teams that do good in the big twelve before 8 teams that embarass the Big12.

Here's a question: Which makes a conference appear stronger? More teams in that don't advance far or fewer teams in but they all make some noise??

Warning - Bleacher Report story. To me an article on BR is just as credible as any of our posts on here. Now with that out of the way... this article is obviously this guys opinion. There is no way that the BE is a better conference than the ACC and that's just my opinion. Do you think if we gave 'Nova the choice of the BE or the ACC they'd pick the ACC because it's a weaker conference and it would be easier to win??? I hate all the east coast bias but we can all agree that the ACC was a tough conference before the 'Ville and 'Cuse moved in, now it's stacked. Since 2000 the current ACC schools have been to 13 final fours. The Big East 5. The last one to make it was Butler and before that 'Nova in '09. Can someone ask this dude if he is aware of the realignment that took place?? Because without UConn (4 FF with 3 NCs, also won NC in '99), Louisville, Syracuse and even Cincinnati they're a shell of a conference.

Big Month For 2015 Recruiting • Oct 02, 2014 07:11 PM

@JayHawkFanToo : I'm hoping Christian got the unused scholarship for this season. He's put in the years and deserves it. I was just trying to point out that KU/Self didn't use all 13 of the scholarships since we had a late transfer in AW3 and Naad left the team. So next year we do actually have one scholarship to give unless Cindy makes Bill give it to Tyler.

Big Month For 2015 Recruiting • Oct 02, 2014 06:56 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 : Pollard is a walk-on. Scot Pollard's nephew joining KU as walk-on ↗

I never heard if they gave it to Christian or not. Maybe they could give it to Evan or Tyler so their parents don't have to worry about that financial burden.

@JayhawkRock78 : Haha!! Deeper coffers!! Agreed of the idea that we should still be looking. On the KUSports thread they talk about what's the magic number to keep Bowen on as HC full time?? Some say 2, maybe 3 wins, plus allow only one blow out, and to be competitive in the rest of the game. I think if KU comes out and beats two other teams besides fellow bottom dweller ISU and isn't blown out once and shows fight, heart, and progress I'd be all in for him staying on if he's willing to make some assistant coaching changes that I believe are necessary. And I think Bowen is a guy that would stick around if he turned the program around and honestly that is what we really need. But I'm desperate so I'd take an up and coming young HC even if he's just looking to use us as a stepping stone until somewhere better comes calling if he could turn this mess around and leave us in a better position than what he found us!!

@justanotherfan : I like your research and the list of current HCs that could be viable candidates and especially like the last line The only way KU gets any reward from this hire is if they take a risk. I couldn't agree more. We're going to have to take a risk on some little known or virtually unknown HC, OC, or DC that's young and motivated. We'd all love to hire that Jim guy from the Niners but that's not happening! I've been looking at OCs and DCs with some ties to the Big12, KU, and Texas with the idea that will help recruiting.

I read Taits 4 things to know about KU football's upcoming coaching search ↗ and one thing leaves me worried. The last sentence in the first point. "But the heavy lifting in the search has yet to begin and may not start for some time." Now I'm not saying we need to hire someone tomorrow, or even the next day, or even this month, but we are likely be one of, if not the least attractive job out there should we let all of the other schools that will be aiming for the same HCs to come and take the one we want and could lure in??? The two guys (Lincoln Riley and Phil Montgomery) I mentioned in the other coaching thread are just like Josh Heupel in the fact that they are "on the radar of a lot of ADs across the country."- per Dave Miller at National Football Post.--> Possible Replacements for Chuck ↗. Can we really afford to sit and wait until the end of the season?? I really hope the comment from the KUSports article is completely wrong or just some smoke and mirrors and actually Zenger is out there actively pursuing and talking to potential KUFBHC candidates.

Am I the only one that thinks KU and SMU will battle over the same HC candidates and is incredibly embarrassed by that??

Kirby Smart makes over 1 million a year to be the DC for 'Bama. You think he wants to give up a job of working with future NFL stars to take a chance at tarnishing his name to become the HC for a program in the dumps?? If Smart wanted to be a HC he would take a more attractive gig than KU. Same goes for Frost at Oregon.

We should look at Lincoln Riley from ECU. He's a Tx Tech, Mike Leach guy which means he's from the same OU Stoops coaching tree as Mangino. Shockingly he's turned down other P5 OC gigs to stay at ECU. Most likely waiting for a HC gig. Could KU be that place??

Phillip Montgomery, AKA Art Briles' right-hand man. Briles is a Leachian too. Do I need to list what Baylor has done recently??

If we want a top level assistant to be the next HC then we need to look at other Big12 guys that know the HS coaches in our recruiting corridor. Not guys familiar with the B1G, SEC, or PAC.

I don't think we'd be able to limit a new hire that's worth a damn to a 2-3 year contract. Guys like that are going to demand 4+ years, your right arm & both legs, and your first born. Proven Power 5 coaches are going to want stability and security. Hell, we promised 5 years with ridiculous cash to two guys that weren't proven. That's why we won't be able to hire a coach that has proven themselves at another P5 school for those terms (2-3yr). Plus there's no way we lure a current P5 coach away from their current position even with (in my best Austin Powers voice) one million dollars. I know Zenger said this “We feel like we can do whatever is necessary for whomever fits our needs the best." but do we really want to take a chance on a guy that's probably going to demand Bill Self's salary and his parking spot too??? Right now for any P5 HCs and OCs/DCs at Top 25 schools KU is a demotion unless we're offering the moon. Minnesota has the lowest P5 HC salary at 1.2 million. And for us to get a good coach we would have to start looking at what we were paying for two below avg guys we just canned. So to get these P5 proven guys to come here we're going to have to add a ton of cash to their current salaries which would make them worth more than HCBS. Like I said in the other thread, our best bet is going to be someone that has ties to here and hope it works out for the best. And please don't pay the next HC more!

And did anyone hear about Weis and his KUvsUT pre-game show?? Chuck says: "They can give it to Bergeron too..." Really!! The problem is, Bergeron was Berger-gone a long damn time ago!! Did he record the pre-game show this past spring/summer?? Zenger should have fired his unprepared ass right then and there! How out of touch with the whole game was Charlie?? Did he not sit down with the DCs and go over things?? Which leads me to this... was Bowen aware that Bergeron had been released??

Weis Fired: Ed Orgeron, others next in line for Kansas job ↗

Deconstruction of Charlie Weis: Where Kansas goes from here ↗

With the search on for the next KUFBHC I really hate realizing that this article and Tait's is probably more correct than we'd all like to imagine. When I remove the crimson and blue colored glasses !Crimson and Blue Colored Glasses ↗
and stop drinking the KU Kool-Aid !Kool-Aid ↗ I come to the realization that Dodd, Tait and Feldman are probably right that our next coach will have to be someone with ties to KU.

First, there is no way Morris is leaving 1.3 million at Clemson to come to KU even for a Weis sized salary. Same goes for Harbaugh even if he isn't coaching the 49ers next season. There will be a much prettier job out there for him (like Michigan, or any other Power 5 school with a vacancy....) N̶o̶t̶ ̶h̶a̶p̶p̶e̶n̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ ̶N̶e̶x̶t̶!̶

There's not a coach on the current staff I'd want us to promote and keep as the new HC. I know Weis is the one that got fired but I can't imagine he's the only one that has put us in the position we're in. Are we to believe Weis was responsible for all of the poor play and execution we've seen? N̶o̶t̶ ̶h̶a̶p̶p̶e̶n̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ ̶N̶e̶x̶t̶!̶

Any up and comer that doesn't have ties directly to KU (Narduzzi, Frost, Herman) would need to be institutionalized if they decided to come here and to risk their chance of getting big time Power 5 gigs!! They'd be better served getting jobs at mid-majors like SMU, ECU, Marshall, ect. N̶o̶t̶ ̶h̶a̶p̶p̶e̶n̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ ̶N̶e̶x̶t̶!̶

Really our best chances at getting a decent HC that can hopefully turn things around are guys like Beaty that could recruit better players all around. His A&M classes are awesome and he knows Texas (granted that's at a hot name like A&M). Warinner is another guy that I mentioned above and he's done great things with an inexperienced O-line at tOSU twice now. And we all know our offensive line could use some sprucing up. Not sure Beck is the right guy. I know it says he's trending and he has Nebraska (5-0) on the right path this year but in the previous few years they've been rather bad and this year they squeaked by McNeese State.

Taits list of replacements are all former or current KU assistant coaches. @globaljayhawk I too hate the fact that 3 years ago we were looking at outside, up and coming guys. Now we have to pick from our own below par staff?!?! IMO none on the current staff should get a snuff. (Unless Bowen inspires them to win out the rest of the season...ha!!) I like Ed but would he be a good hire because we don't know if he's HC material?

@DanR looks like we all need to take turns looking at the two articles they posted about the firing. There poor server connection is why I linked KCStar article.

I know it's hard to get coaches to commit to schools that are in the dumps but the no buy out clauses are killing us. Thankfully big money donors that want the Football Hawks to win on the field have been putting up that cash for these last two firings. Now Zenger better look at his list long and hard, check it twice, and make sure he's making the right hire this time around because if not he'll be packing his office along with whomever he hires.

KC Star Weis Canned ↗

Although I think he needed to go I'm at odds on the timing. Part of me hates not giving a guy the full 3 years. Another other part of me knows the chance of us winning another game this year is very low, especially if our offense can't get on the board. So we might as well just yank the band aid off now and start the search for the next KU FB HC. I imagine that Zenger already has a wish list and hopefully we don't over pay for this one!

Read the comments after the article, if that's what you can call it. Not sure how great of a scouting report it is really because it's more of a blog to poke fun at the KU players names' and Weis. And at what point do people grow tired of making the same lame ass fat jokes over and over??? I'd guess never since people still make very unoriginal "Do you know Toto?" cracks all the time.

Forward plans visit to Kansas • Aug 07, 2014 03:41 PM

The word he says is obviously "rules" and he's talking about Twitter. And @JayHawkFanToo I'm sure there are more wanna be journalist out there that like the idiots at 'BroBible' (I just threw up in my mouth) that have written about the interview and like @justanotherfan stated, they too are trying to drum up clicks. My wife and I watch a few TV shows that use subtitles for anyone that's non-American with an accent even when we can clearly understand them and we often think, "Why do they always have subtitles for someone so easily understood?". Now I know it's for Brandon Wenerd!!

The Lebron Legacy • Jul 25, 2014 12:16 PM

@ParisHawk : He got the max contract because the Cavs know they aren't going to be paying it (well only 30 days of it...) and to decrease the difference in $$ between the Cavs - Wolves trade.

The Lebron Legacy • Jul 24, 2014 10:21 PM

Wiggins signing sucks. I really hate the fact that in 30 days he will probably be traded to the T-Wolves and be apart of that piss poor organization for probably 4 years.... I guess this way we won't cheer for the Cavs and hope they win. Instead we can now all hope they lose! I always hated that I felt ok with the Heat winning because they had Mario.

The Lebron Legacy • Jul 21, 2014 10:01 PM

@JayHawkFanToo : I put this in my above post: There is a fourth player that is being included in the deal at this time and it's Brendan Haywood. But to make the salaries work they will need to do one of two things. Either add another current Cav player or include a 3rd team. Some have said the Cavs may have to include Tristan Thompson to make the money all equal out. But by adding him in the mix Cleveland is putting up 3 lottery picks and they likely won't want to do that. So the only option left for the Cavs is to find a third team to include in the trade to make all of the $ work. This is why I think the Golden State trade option would be more appealing if I'm the T-Wolves GM.

The Lebron Legacy • Jul 21, 2014 02:28 PM

@EdwordL : Rookie contracts are 2 years, with the 3rd and the 4th year being team options.

The Lebron Legacy • Jul 21, 2014 01:43 PM

The reason LeBron only signed a two year deal is the fact the NBA is signing a new TV deal in two years and he hopes he can get an even larger paycheck at that time. He now will be able to negotiate a better contract in two years and also has the choice to opt out after one season to renegotiate next summer. Player options only can come before the final season of a contract, another reason for the two-year deal. The TV component is important and valuable. The NBA and players share basketball-related income (BRI) at a near 50-50 split, and TV revenue is included in BRI. The higher the BRI, the more money for players. Also don't be surprised if James negotiates and re-negotiates max deals that are shorter in length for the next few seasons. The players and owners have the option to terminate the current CBA after the 2016-17 season, which could lead to another change in maximum contracts.

Now why would the Wolves agree to the Cavs trade when the Warriors have a much better package??

Cavs are offering Wiggins, Bennett, Brendan Haywood, and next years first rounder

(which would be a late first rounder since Cavs + Love = big things...) So really you're getting Wiggins (unknown prospect), Bennett (failed his first year, may get better, may not), Haywood (UNC alum that hasn't amounted to much), and a border line second rounder. Throw in the fact that Wiggins hasn't signed his contract and it's not sure if the dollar signs will match up. To make this deal work the Cavs would either have to add Tristan Thompson to the pot or seek out a third team to make the money all equal out.

The Warriors have a deal of

Barnes, Lee, and Thompson for Love and Kevin Martin

which works money wise without much additional wrangling (aside from whether the Wolves would demand the Warriors' 2015 draft pick). With Barnes, Lee, and Thompson you're getting three players that you know about. None are prospects. Thompson, Lee, and then Barnes were 2, 3, and 4 in team scoring last year. And Lee was second on the team in rebounds.

Now I know the Wolves have been a very bad organization the past decade or two, but are they so inept that they can not to see that 3 starters (Barnes/Lee/Thompson) out weigh 1, maybe 2 starters (Wiggins/Thompson if he's included).

This is for Jaybate. Shoe-co money! • Jul 14, 2014 05:06 PM

This is the kind of deal that KU needs to lock down! One can dream right?

Not really sure how hot of a seat he is on since his contract still has a lot to pay out. I don't think the big boosters are going to put up the payout this time around and KU Inc. don't want to keep paying him like they have the previous 2 HCs. I understand what the author of the piece means. We as Kansas Football fans are ready to see improvement (aka WINS). But even if those wins aren't there this year I don't see anyway possible that we can buyout Charlie and get a respectable replacement.

As for the other coaches, I can see why most of them are on the hot seat and do believe that if their respective teams don't get the W's then they will be canned. Florida won't stand for another year of suck. And I'm shocked Nebraska hasn't canned Bo yet. Isn't that the same school that fired Solich after a 10-3 record??

You're both incorrect. It was Dayne Crist and Charlie Wise on a conference call to Mike Brey. Sheahon is busy trying to figure out ways to black out all KU games to every household in America. Pure facts.

NCAA: Paterno family's lawsuit 'ignores reality' ↗

I wanted to talk about this because it just boggles my mind that the Paterno family can think dear old dad was never in the wrong about any of this. If you've read the Freeh report you know it's flat out sickening how former PSU President Graham Spanier, former Senior Vice President ‐ Finance and Business Gary Schultz, former Athletic Director Timothy Curley, and former Head Football coach Joe Paterno all acted and FAILED to act on the behalf of the children in all of these cases. To totally blow off these incidents and to continue to allow Sandusky access to the Lasch Building (where the shower INCIDENTS took place) is criminal. I wish Paterno was still alive so he could spend several years behind bars which would allow him think about their inaction (well he and his cronies did take action, but it was the completely wrong, criminal, and immoral action) and the continued sexual abuse they allowed to occur.

Just a shot in the dark here.... but HCBS told Tharpe it's in Tharpe's best interest if he transfers now because Self knows he's got the next starting point guard for KU suiting up next year.

Rustin Dodd just tweeted that - Tharpe is transferring to be closer to his daughter, who is currently going through some medical issues. Or something along those lines...

Sorry to hear that his daughter is having problems. Best of luck to him and her and I hope where ever he ends up he gets his head on straight and matures.
