Instead of this horse and pony show I'd rather the NBA allow kids to be drafted out of high school but if they go to college instead make them stay more than 8 months. At least make it 2 years or better yet 3 like in baseball. Of course the NBA clubs don't want the pressure of drafting an unknown and getting the next Kwame Brown...
My only question is who will watch this and how many fans will tune in???
And to answer my own question and start off this poll.... I for one will not be tuning in.
This just doesn't interest me. And I'd say I'm a basketball junkie. But to be more specific I'm a college basketball junkie. As a fan of the Kansas University I watch all KU games as well as certain other college teams (mostly our BigXII brothers, Michigan St, some ACC, others), coaches, and players that I like. I don't watch the high school games on espn unless there is a KU kid playing and I have nothing better to do. The McD's games, the Adidas All Star games, the others all star games.... I don't watch. I'm not a fan of no defense and half ass effort. I don't watch the NBA but I do follow our former 'Hawks, always checking the box scores. I haven't even tuned in to one playoff game.
If a guy like Thon Maker becomes a LV Dealer will anyone care?? Are there already Thon fans out there?? Did anyone in the US that isn't a friend of Mudiay watch a single game of his this year??
I don't know who Cerruti Brown sees as his target audience? College basketball fans that he's stealing OADs from? NBA fans, if there is such a thing besides during the playoffs.... ?
@konkeyDong I hope KU doesn't get involved...
@Crimsonorblue22 : Just a little partial to ISU is putting it nicely.
I recall it but the question earlier was about the last five years.
2011:
:star::star::star::star::star: Nash, signed with OSU.
2012:
:star::star::star::star::star: Cam Ridley, signed with UT.
:star::star::star::star::star: Marcus Smart, signed with OSU.
:star::star::star::star: Reese, signed with A&M.
:star::star::star::star: Shaq Cleare, signed with Maryland. <-- No scholarship offered according to Scout.
:star::star::star::star: Prince Ibeh, signed with UT.
2013:
:star::star::star::star::star: Julius Randle, signed with UK.
:star::star::star::star::star: Matt Jones, signed with Duke.
:star::star::star::star: Shepard, signed with TCU.
2014:
:star::star::star::star::star: Mudiay, signed with SMU played in China.
:star::star::star::star::star: Turner, signed with UT.
:star::star::star::star::star: Justise Winslow, signed with Duke.
2015:
:star::star::star::star: Tyler Davis, signed with A&M. <-- Scout claims we didn't offer him a scholarship though...
:star::star::star::star: King McClure, signed with Baylor.
Looking at this without looking at the make up of the entire team during the kids recruitment can make these numbers appear however you'd like them. Just with last years class alone, does Tyler Davis want to come to Kansas and battle the likes of guys like Perry, Cliff (wasn't known if he would be back when Davis declared), and which ever big recruit(s) that commit later in the season or does he want to go to A&M and get more PT earlier?? I'm sure you could go down the line and pick a bunch of these off like that.
We aren't wasting resources recruiting in Texas. We play at least 4 games there every single year! It's not a long drive or plane ride for parents to come see their sons play either.
Snacks is the lead recruiter on 6'7" SG Terrance Ferguson. No way Self puts Snacks on the number 5 nationally ranked guy if Self is thinking about replacing him. Especially when we are in the lead for him.
Are you counting Skal in that UK class? Not sure if his guardians, Gerald Hamilton, make believe prep school "Reach Your Dream" is going to clear the NCAA much like Deion Prime Time Sanders prep school didn't for Mudiay last year. And if the NCAA listens to the coaches that have said the Hamilton was shopping the kid around UK will have to do some under the table crap to get him to play. Wonder if Emmert is a JayZ or Drake fan? Cal could probably set up a concert for him.....
@JayHawkFanToo said:
Until we see what Bragg and Diallo can do, KU will have a lot of potential and upside but not quite the proven team ISU will be.
Isn't this statement a little contradictory of the rest of that post? Wait and see what KUs new guys do but assume that the ISU, UK, and Duke new guys, be it freshmen or transfers, will all be interchangeable to what they lost??
I think he meant to Cal as in Calipari and not as in California but once he realized the mistake it was too late. He didn't want to look like a fool and explain that one so now he's loading up the car and moving to California for 9 months.
Throw in "per source(s)" and I think the wanna be experts over at 247 will run with it.
You know media (if you can consider sites like 247 and bleahcer report media that is, hell they're more like TMZ for sports - a bunch of no talent az clown journalists claiming to be basketball recruiting experts), always wanting to break the story without getting the whole story or the truth. Neither of those things matter as long as you're first to print!!!!
(Note: This isn't a joke.) ;)
Horse leg?
We play Michigan State next year in the Champ Classic and if rumors are true we will be playing UK in the Big12/SEC showdown in late January. If that holds true I'd expect a return game at the others court the follwoing season so that would put us playing UK next year (2015-16) and the year after (2016-17). So I'd guess Duke is our foe in the 2016 Champ Classic.
Agreed, I'm sure Hatch will end up being on a scholarship and a team manager... graduate assistant one day... If him giving up his scholarship lands Brown I'm sure oh Johny boy will make it up to him.
Posting via Facebook and/or with your true identity didn't civilize the site??? HA! Not sure why the ones at LjW that made the decision to make posting transparent thought that's how things would go down.
247 has completely dropped KU from the percentage wheel. I won't be holding my breath at 5 tonight....
Cannot mix Snyder and Meyer players, as getting those recruits is very much a part of who/what a head coach is. Snyder used to dream of getting Meyer-like recruits, but probably gave up such dreams years ago.
Sell a 5 star footballer on a school with beautiful weather year round (UF), years of great tradition (both OSU and UF), huge athletic budgets (again both), rabid fans (both), major recruiting hotbeds in-state (both), young coach that isn't at retirements doorstep (Meyer at both), school/stadium that isn't located next to rodeo grounds (neither), coeds (both).
It appears Urban would have a really hard time convincing an 18 yr old star to commit to either UF or OSU.... Come on man, give the old man some credit for posting winning seasons at a place that's only tradition is his and it's in a horrible location.
Throw in The Canes and the pathetic "timeout" they were given for the Nevin scandal and yes the NCAA pathetic.
Once he's declared he's old news except to the school he declares to. This way he gets to stay in the spot light a little longer....
SBNation article. Some wanna be experts opinion.
@Wigs2 I think it was an attempt to get DeAndre Daniels
@wrwlumpy Probably signing a grant in aid.
By NCAA terms: A full grant-in-aid is financial aid that consists of tuition and fees, room and board, and required course-related books.
This doesn't tie him down to the school (UK in his case) if the coach (Cal) were to quit/leave/be fired (go to the NBA). He's going to UK in other words...
@REHawk thank you for pointing out that EM had no chance of playing D1 ball this year because of his grades. Most people forget he wasn't eligble.
Same rumors are swirling about Thon which makes me nervous about our recruitment of him.
Diallo is from Mali. NBA Summer Leagues will go down same time as WUG
This is from USA official WUG site.
Each athlete must meet the following specific criteria in order to be eligible.
United States Citizen and able to obtain a US Passport.
Born between January 1, 1987 and December 31, 1997. For basketball, the athlete must be born after January 1, 1990 and before December 31, 1997.
Have taken at least one 3-credit course towards a degree or diploma within the last year before the GAMES. Incoming freshman and transfers are usually eligible.
Sign the Comprehensive Acceptance of Team USA Agreements form.
Sign the Team USA Honor Code and Code of Conduct form.
Sign the Team USA Authorizations, Waiver and Release Form.
This is from KUAthletics website:
Only current university student-athletes or recent graduates, born between Jan. 1, 1990, and Dec. 31, 1997, are eligible for the 2015 Games. For Kansas' participation, only U.S. citizens can compete and incoming freshmen and transfers qualify. The Kansas travel party, consisting of 12 competitors and staff (24 total), will leave Lawrence June 28 and live in the athlete village throughout the Games.
Are they changing the rules?
Google says TT was born April 12, 1990.
EJ is July 7, 1990.
Travis is February 22, 1990.
Something ain't adding up here... Does Bill just say these guys are too old hoping that he can fool the OAD guards to sign with KU since we don't have any other options?? Or is he saying he doesn't want TT, EJ, and Travis?
Can Diallo put you down for let's say 500 in Avon products??
I live in the area. Wife grew up near Cassville. We stick to the west end of the lake ourselves. We vacation around Indian Point every summer with her family. Not much of a fisher since I'm pretty bad at it but I will eat it if you can catch it!
Really calling it a year is exaggerating. Especially since Loangate ended his less than what we had hoped for season a month short. Feel bad for the kid but the D league and overseas is in his future.
I thought Global said something about being on Table Rock a while back. Which isn't the Lake or the Lake of the Ozarks. Table Rock is Branson and south Missouri. Lake of the Ozarks is more central MO.
Currently we have two scholarships to fill. NCAA allows for up to 13 scholarship players and we can only take 12 to the games.
If we get really lucky and fill out our roster we have a few scenarios.
If we fill it with players born in the US then everyone that's a scholarship player minus Svii could represent Kansas and the US in the WUG.
If one of those guys is Diallo then we would have a roster spot for a former player or one of the current walk-ons. (I vote former player)
If Perry were to leave he could still play on the team this summer as long as the team that owns his rights is down with it. But if Perry is drafted he will more than likely be playing in NBA summer league games.
Orlando is July 4 to 10 and then Vegas is 10 to 20. The WUG is July 3 to 14.
Any players like Kelly, Cliff, former guys trying to impress NBA squads will probably be playing in Orlando, Vegas, or both.
Maybe it was the size of the Duke players guarding Dekker but I thought the air balled threes were more about having tired legs.
Lyles (6'10" and 235) and Lee (6'9" and 220) are the same height or taller. Sam (6'9" and 220). Booker (6'6" and 206) is a few inches shorter and smaller but he wouldn't be the first or second choice to guard him.
Alex is 6'8" and 238.
Winslow is 6'6" and 225.
Matt Jones is smaller than that.
As a team they go 60% from FT line against Duke. They made 81% against UK. On the season they were a 76% FT shooting team. Dukes size can't be responsible for that.
I have no doubts that had Duke been the one to play Kentucky on Saturday and won it would have drained them and we'd be talking about the Badgers being the Champs. The win had more to do about gas in the tank then the number of OADs on the court.
I'm still not sold on the OAD theory. The tourney is all about the match ups. Duke had the easier side of the bracket and coasted in their FF match up with a poor day for Michigan State which left them rested. Wisconsin had the tougher of the two 2 seeds in Arizona to battle (committee wanted to see that rematch) and they had a really hard fought game against Kentucky two days prior which left them dog tired. You could see it from the start of the game that Wisconsin was worn out. Had Duke faced Kentucky and won, which I don't think they would have by the way, then Wisconsin would be the National Champs today.
Night all
Not intentional
@brooksmd they were calling a cab. What did you think they were doing?? Making a crucial call against Duke???
Guess the NCAA printed a bunch of duke t shirts like they did for UK and they don't want to be out of that cash...
Indisputable saves their arse
Wait. It'll be too close to call so puke ball...
Review that you cheating zebras
Frank fouled twice by Okafor. He's never fouled out and tonight won't be the first...
Look the other way refs....
Did he just throw it off Frank then?
@tundrahok no. Or at least I don't think they did
D up
They seem confused by that foul. Have they been allowed to put two hands on opponents all year?
@approxinfinity you called it. Flop City
@wissoxfan83 a little early for Late Night man!
He just ran him over
@tundrahok on chocolate milk right?
