Doke needs to pump fake before he goes up to make that harder to time. When he just goes up like that in rhythm it's very easy to time.

Pump fake also means the guy is probably going to foul hard enough to where Doke doesn't get a shot up. I think no pump fake is better as bad as Doke is at FT's.

I doubt anyone on TCU is strong enough to prevent Doke from getting a shot up. If he pump fakes he probably gets a foul and has a chance for an and-1. Worst-case scenario he gets 2 shots at the line. If he just goes up in rhythm the worst case is we get nothing and TCU is running the other way with the ball. I'll take the foul.

A pump fake means the defender is landing on Doke's shoulders which means he's not getting a shot up with much shot of going in. The blocks are less frequent than Doke going 0-2 from the line and he's getting the and one more frequently than with the pump fake as well.

In the long run, Doke is going to score more points without pump faking than by pump faking. If Doke was a 60% FT, I would be in favor, but he's still not good enough at the line to make me want to see him get there without getting a good look up as well.

Assuming the guy is hanging on him if he ball fakes... Most of the dunks he had in the post today came after at least one ball fake. And that's because a ball fake makes the shot attempt harder to time.

What is the line

Is there a record for dunks?

Might be held by another Kansas big man lol. Any guesses?

This team reminds me so much of the 2012 runner up team. Mediocre offense, but elite level defense.

Don't know where I've heard this before.

ESPN has ticked me off twice today, and once in the week to come. ESPN main page makes you click on NCAAM to find the KU score. 3rd ranked team in the country. Talking heads on half time "if a team wins the ACC they ought to be a 1 seed". Tuesday, will have to watch the game off my computer making me pay more for a service I already pay through the nose for.

The ACC is so down. 3 good teams and 13 or so bad ones

ACC is at best the 4th best conference in the country. They are somewhere between 4-6. They don't deserve anything this season.

GOD DAMN IT. I hate being so right. I really hope we dodge MSU I don't care what their record is or how they finish the season.

They haven't looked that good this year, honestly. I'd rather play them than Auburn or Oregon honestly. Payton Pritchard is better than Cassius Winston this season.

Light Work Game Thread • Feb 08, 2020 05:59 PM

Ochai is the guy who needs to step up. He's a lot better than 2 points and 1 rebound.

Light Work Game Thread • Feb 08, 2020 05:54 PM

@BShark Great defense and TCU can't offense.

Big 12 Conference Going to Help or Hurt KU • Feb 07, 2020 12:54 AM

I did this a few weeks ago, so it's probably changed a bit since then. But here are the average rank and average adjusted efficiency margin for some of the conferences using data from Ken Pom.

Average Rank and Adjusted Efficiency Margin:

B10: Rank - 36, AdjEM - 16.92

BE: Rank - 43, AdjEM - 15.34

B12: Rank - 45, AdjEM - 16.36

ACC: Rank - 67, AdjEM - 12.44

SEC: Rank - 72, AdjEM - 11.58

P12: Rank - 77, AdjEM - 10.86

AAC: Rank - 95, AdjEM - 8.43

WCC: Rank - 128, AdjEM - 5.64

A10: Rank - 130, AdjEM - 4.97

I'd say we're at worst the 3rd best conference top-to-bottom this season, but we're pretty top-heavy (3 teams in Ken Pom Top 7), so we probably won't get more than 4-5 teams into the tournament. B10 looks like the overall best conference, but I'm not sure they have a team I would pick to get to the Final Four. Really it just depends what you use to evaluate a conference.

Wiggins • Feb 06, 2020 09:26 PM

The culture and stability could help Andrew a lot. He's gone through, what, like 4 coaches at Minnesota? And who are the players he had to look up to on the Timberwolves? Jimmy Butler? Kevin Garnett? Steph and Klay are more laid back, and probably better role-models for a player like Wiggins, and Kerr is probably a better coach for him.

We'll see, though. Wiggins' biggest issue has always been his motor. I'm not sure any change of scenery is going to help with that.

@BShark said in Ok guys , so what am I missing, got to be things:

Our defense is ridiculous.

Correct. This is one of Self's best defensive teams at Kansas. The offense isn't elite, but it's good enough to keep up with teams when they get hot (Dayton made sixteen 3-pointers but we only turned the ball over 11 times). We get into trouble when we turn the ball over excessively and don't make other teams play against our half-court defense.

We're ranked 3rd in defensive efficiency and 9th in offensive efficiency per Ken Pomeroy. The 11-12 team that lost in the national championship game to Kentucky was also 3rd in defensive efficiency and 23rd in offensive efficiency. I think we're similar to that team, but with a little more depth/upside on offense. That team won 3 games in the tournament by a margin of 3 points. Again, similar to that team, if we make a deep run in the tournament I don't think we're going to be blowing teams out. We have a problem with keeping our foot on the gas pedal. I worry about our free-throw shooting in close games, but I think Self is smart enough to make sure we're putting our better free-throw shooters on the line at the end of games.

Other Games • Feb 05, 2020 01:26 AM

Neither team has made a 3-pointer in this game between Duke and Boston College with 12:00 minutes left in the 2nd half. The two teams are a combined 0-26 from 3 right now.

Texas in the bonus jacking 3's. Must be nice.

The back board is your friend.

Superbowl Hangover Game Thread • Feb 04, 2020 02:45 AM

It's kind of ridiculous that the fouls are almost even when Texas is chucking 3's and Kansas is driving or throwing the ball inside every possession. I swear DeRosa officiates every game that I feel like is being fixed for betting purposes.

Superbowl Hangover Game Thread • Feb 04, 2020 02:43 AM

Doke got a call. It's a miracle.

Superbowl Hangover Game Thread • Feb 04, 2020 02:41 AM

There's no way that's an offensive foul.

Superbowl Hangover Game Thread • Feb 04, 2020 02:35 AM

Bilas is a ref apologist for bad calls against KU, and a referee for missed calls on KU.

Superbowl Hangover Game Thread • Feb 04, 2020 02:24 AM

Joe DeRosa needs to retire. And I hope he steps on a rake on his way out.

Superbowl Hangover Game Thread • Feb 04, 2020 02:20 AM

Tired of Doke getting pushed and no foul being called.

Superbowl Hangover Game Thread • Feb 04, 2020 02:05 AM

The last 1.5 minutes of this game have taken about 20 minutes in real time. And these officials are clowns.

If anyone is low on salt, Kentucky fans are giving it away for free on social media.

I think Baylor is an elite team. They remind me of 10-11 Connecticut, except they're better defensively.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 08:03 PM

If you want to boo, move to Philadelphia. I'd sooner applaud Baylor's players.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:52 PM

@Woodrow Okay, sure. But let's distinguish between lucky shots and bad offense. Dribbling for 30 seconds and making a pull-up 3 is bad offense. Made 3-pointers off of broken plays is bad offense.

His defense on Doke was good, I'll agree. We are also horrible at feeding the post.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:50 PM

It had to happen eventually. This Baylor team is good. Oh well, let's move on and keep getting better.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:48 PM

@Woodrow Baylor's half-court sets have pretty much consisted of iso-plays leading to pull-up 3's or dishes for lay-ups. I haven't been overly impressed with any of the action Baylor has ran other than a good baseline lob out of a timeout.

Mostly I think Baylor's dudes have just played their ass off today and wanted it more than we did. I guess credit coach for that, but I don't think Drew has been masterminding this game.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:42 PM

That's a moving screen and a flop but oh well

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:38 PM

Turnovers are the difference in the game right now. Their offense hasn't looked any better than ours.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:33 PM

Patrick Stewart is still alive? Wow.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:32 PM

Can't make dumb turnovers. Can't get cute with lineups. And Ochai needs to show up.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:30 PM

Dumb turnovers leading to easy baskets again.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:26 PM

To be honest it looks like all of Baylor's players are taking steroids. They seem a little too intense out there.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:20 PM

Honestly we have a chance if we can stop turning it over. Baylor's offense hasn't looked good at all in the half-court.

BayLOL Game Thread • Jan 11, 2020 07:18 PM

Flop lol
