@justanotherfan Or maybe Coach Self has just declined to do that thus far into his career? Thats certainly as possible as anything else. The fact that he is coaching for the U S now should hint at better things to come, not a plateau or drop off. Plus, Coach Pop has his back, those guys are tight from what I hear, and Coach Pop is one of the best in the League. You cant ask for a better connection than that.

@VailHawk Stellar idea! Man, that would be out of this world!

Kelly Oubre: A Gambler? • Apr 07, 2015 09:40 PM

@REHawk Maybe he will blow them away at the NBA combine. I hope he does. Id like to see him get into the lotto.

CLIFF GONE • Apr 07, 2015 09:38 PM

@Statmachine Maybe he didnt have a choice but to declare? Either way, I wont miss him. Least favorite since Selby, thats for sure.

@justanotherfan I read some of what he said and your right, it sounded whiny to me. However, his point he was trying to make is valid. UK 10 AA's Duke 9 AA's, It is not fair to every other team or good for the game to have stacking like that at all! Phog Allen is probly rolling over in his grave right now. Its tragic.

@jaybate-1.0 Man, I wanted Wisconsin to win too. Facing two mega Nike stack programs in a row was too much for them. Oh, and the refs were terrible! The NCAA really needs to clean house. Fire all of them. All. Of. Them. Get refs that actually have 2 eyes and a brain in their heads. Im not just talking about the game last night, which I didnt see but read about, Im talking about the whole tournament. Bad calls and even worse calls the whole damm time. I think one of the worst is the call that caused SMU to lose.

In Case Anyone Keeps Count... • Apr 06, 2015 05:56 PM

@drgnslayr NO idea. Good question though. Worth looking in to. But, something tells me the basketball program has nothing to worry about. Traylor seemed to be bigger last season. Cliff was less of himself than he was at the start of the season. Perry, stayed the same.

SVI actually gained size I thought. That photo that Hudy posted of him, he looked ripped and he was a skinny twig when he got to KU. But that was hard work, its doubtful there was anything illegal used with Svi's gains.

Of course, I cant speak for any of the other sports because I know absolutely nothing about them.

New Recruiting Methods • Apr 06, 2015 05:44 PM

@Kip_McSmithers I had no idea. That is very interesting indeed. It would be a bank roll situation for KU Basketball. Football? Yah it would help, for sure.

In Case Anyone Keeps Count... • Apr 06, 2015 02:41 PM

@drgnslayr I refuse to give the squid credit for recruiting. I will swear up and down until the grave that he is doing something illegal, at very least highly questionable.

I also find it highly irritating that he even got selected for the HOF. Sure he has been a coach for x amount of years required and been to x amount of final fours and gotten a ring. BUT he had 2 full seasons of wins vacated with UMASS and Memphis. That should count against him. No, that should disqualify him from even being considered for the Coaching HOF.

I live 3 hours from Springfield Mass. I am highly tempted to make that drive on 9/11/15 to be there when he gets inducted and be " the unknown heckler "

@nuleafjhawk Oh yah! We all know what happened now, dont we? Plus Kensuckballs lost MILLIONS of dollars in revenue from this. I am very happy indeed. All I need now is to see an NCAA investigation against UK for recruiting violations or some such thing.

@jaybate-1.0 Thats proof enough for me. Of course I strongly dislike the guy and I am more than willing to kick him when he is down. Here comes the kick.

I watched that game against Wisconsin. I also watched another game, maybe the one two games before it against ND.

He was not running anything that my untrained eye could not keep up with. All he was having his players do in the half court was set some high ball screens/ pick and roll, saw some baseline cuts, some double curls with his guards coming back up to trey line and a bit of pick and pop. Thats it. Most every time down the court, thats all I saw.

He was just relying on his teams vastly superior size, athleticism and length to get the W.

It didnt work once he got far enough in the madness to where he had to match up with a team (Wisconsin) and a coach ( Bo Ryan ) that could beat him.

Then he showed what he is really made of. He showed he has no control over his players in terms of character building and integrity. More than a few of them walked off, they walked off the court before the hand shake line. And, before the post game interview he didnt bother to make sure his players emotions were in check.

I wouldnt say bad coach, I would say terrible coach.

Regarding recruiting, he clearly has a very big edge there. But it is one that I still believe could be less than legal.

Shaka Smart in BigXII • Apr 05, 2015 02:47 PM

@Hawk8086 Nah, Shaka is gonna get shell shocked the first time he comes into AFH!!! That place is going to break ear drums with its decibel levels.

Star Wars and College Basketball. Great match right? Yah, I thought so.
So, if I was the casting agent for Star Wars episode 4 today, I would pick
my cast based upon fictional likeness of character only. Slight malice intended ;)
And, please everyone feel free to change the cast. This is sposed to be fun!

The big 3 of Luke, Leia and Han would be filled by:
Freddy Hoiberg as Luke
Scott Drew as Leia
Bill Self as Han Solo

Larry Brown as Obi Wan

Jim Boeheim as Gran Moff Tarkin ( the officer that interrogates Leia )

Coach K as C3P0

Travis Ford as R2D2

Trent Johnson as Chewbacca

John Thompson as Darth Vader

Shaka Smart as Darth Sidious aka Emperor Palpatine (sp?)

John Calipari as Jabba the Hutt and the trash compactor snakey monster thing

Uncommited recruits... • Apr 05, 2015 01:00 PM

@ZIG Kentucky guard Andrew Harrison has apologized for uttering an obscenity and a racial slur as a question about Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky was being asked Saturday night during a postgame news conference at the Final Four.

Harrison and the Wildcats were upset 71-64 by the Badgers.

After the game, Harrison was sitting at the interview table with his brother, Aaron, directly to his left and forward Willie Cauley-Stein directly to his right.

A reporter directed a question about Kaminsky toward Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns: "Karl, could you talk about Kaminsky and what if anything is unique about defending him?" the reporter said.

EDITOR'S PICKS

Medcalf: The end of Kentucky's perfect dream
Kentucky's 38-1 record will look impressive, but not historic. The Wildcats' lone blemish will, fair or not, be what is remembered forever.
Near the end of the question, a live microphone in front of Harrison picked up his muttering as his hand covered his mouth.

Social media immediately lit up with questions about what Harrison said accompanied by video clips of his response. The AP reviewed an audio recording of the press conference, and the phrase is audible, but muffled.

The team planned to speak with Harrison.

"We have no comment until we have had a chance to evaluate it," Kentucky spokesman Eric Lindsey said.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Uncommited recruits... • Apr 05, 2015 01:00 PM

@ZIG Oh Reeeeeaaallly. Yeah, thats stellar management there by Cal. He should have put a lock down on all those kids' mouths. Goes to show you what a total slime he is and all those players are.

Uncommited recruits... • Apr 05, 2015 12:51 PM

@ralster Yeah, on ESPN, there's the Cal interview. The Harrison slur got mentioned in an article about the game. Dunno what he said exactly. But, yah.

@jaybate-1.0 PHOF for the Zapruder film analogy.

@jaybate-1.0 regarding the egregiously asymmetric officiating, that no call flagrant 2 against Kentucky player I forget his name. THAT pissed me off.
Just terrible call after terrible call in that game.

I will say that I was giggling pretty hard when they gave Wisconsin 2 points in what was clearly a shot clock violation.

Uncommited recruits... • Apr 05, 2015 12:31 PM

@DoubleDD Hell yeah, I was jumping around the room when I saw Kensuckweiner lose the game!! Some of those a-holes even walked right off the court and skipped the hand shake line. Calipari had a particular slimy post game interview. One of the twins even racial slurred against Kaminsky in his post game interview. LOSERS!!!!! The whole lot of them.

Now all that needs to happen is the NCAA investigation for some undisclosed rules violation.

DEKKER. DON'T. CARE. • Apr 05, 2015 03:17 AM

@approxinfinity YES!!!! YES!!!!!! YES!!!!! HUGE MIDDLE FINGER TO KENSUCKASS!! CHOKE!!!

DEKKER. DON'T. CARE. • Apr 05, 2015 02:07 AM

@VailHawk Go Wisconsin!

@drgnslayr Oh my gosh! Will they just hurry up and decide!? I dont want to wait anymore on this Cliff thing.
Im at the point where I say let him go. He is just about to be a detriment to the program. Not to mention wholly underwhelming during his limited minutes on the court.

Shaka Smart in BigXII • Apr 04, 2015 01:31 PM

@Hawk8086 You mean about beating KU a few years ago in San Antonio?

I felt like that was a true statement. No malice intended by Shaka. BUT can he beat us twice? Can he come to AFH, the toughest place in div 1, and come out with a win? Because that is what it will take to knock KU off the big boy hill.
Huggy couldn't do it.
That would imply that Shaka is a better coach than Huggy, and I just don't see that.

@wrwlumpy I think it would be cool to have a new challenger around, with a cool name like Shaka!

WHAT IF KU SIGNS THREE OADS? • Apr 02, 2015 09:48 PM

@jaybate-1.0 This year? I dunno. I mean if we even add one more perimeter player like Malik or somebody, I'll be good. But I guess we might need another Big to complement Bragg, whether it be OAD or Senior Transfer. Dont much care which.

TEA LEAF TIME--SHOOTING FORWARD • Apr 01, 2015 11:03 PM

@REHawk Yeah, but then if he kills it in the combine, he could be right up there again. The kid is a stud. I mean, I think of him as being right in between Wigs and Ben as far as talent and athleticism.

Okie Lite Mulling Firing Ford • Mar 31, 2015 05:45 PM

@drgnslayr Yeah, your right. Fred doesnt get too rattled by much. He is a very calm guy on outward appearance. My nursing background makes me think that he could handle the NBA though. I mean he is in good shape and he is relatively young. He is 42 years old. Thats young. I dont know his whole medical history but if he stays in shape, keeps his stress low, which he appears to be good at, there's no reason he wouldnt be able to handle NBA coaching. Granted, it wouldnt be a life time gig. But he could do it, if he wanted. Its not impossible to imagine for me. He could totally keep on a strict cardio healthy diet. One of the things in his potential NBA contract should state that he needs such and such a diet delivered to him when he is on the road. He can keep his cardio status up by doing drills with his players at times. I dont know if such a thing is done. My point is, he would have access to elite status health care and elite status resources for maintaining his health. He could totally do it.
I would rather him stay at ISU though.

Barometer On The Jayhawk Nation • Mar 31, 2015 05:26 PM

@drgnslayr I dont see them losing the conference next year, but stranger things have happened. If I have to pick just one option though? I'll pick the 1st one.

Because imo #2 would be a wash with option #1. Im not saying a trip to the final four would be less than desirable. Because it would be very desirable. BUT a 12th conference title in a row and a one game improvement upon this years team in the NCAA's would give coach Self and KU something equal to hang in the rafters just like a FF appearance would AND a huge chance to bring in #13 the following year and tie Coach Wooden for consecutive conference champ wins. That is legendary.
AND, you all know we absolutely will get another ring here before Coach Self is done. It will happen. Its just a matter of when. This is about longevity here, legendary coaching status, which affects KU for decades to come! This isnt just about finishing one year in the final four. This is for the future generations of the Jayhawk Nation!

Barometer On The Jayhawk Nation • Mar 31, 2015 04:52 PM

@drgnslayr Stellar question. One that requires more than just a reflex response. I'll be back.

Okie Lite Mulling Firing Ford • Mar 31, 2015 04:48 PM

@HighEliteMajor said:

Self goes to Oklahoma St.; and introducing the new coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, Greg Marshall!

That would be a completely upside down world.

HEM! Shame on you for saying such a thing! Blasphemy!

Okie Lite Mulling Firing Ford • Mar 31, 2015 04:47 PM

@drgnslayr My question regarding Freddy is this. How could an existing heart condition keep him out of NBA coaching? Its not like he's gonna be running the floor with his players. He would also have access to the best cardiology physicians on the planet with the $$ he would be making. I dont know what he gets at ISU but my guess is its not that good. Good, but not that good.
I dont particularly want him to leave ISU, I think he is a genuinely good guy and good coach, does good things for the Big 12 image and all that.
But, if he did want to leave, why would his current condition prevent it?

Congrats Wissoxfan83 • Mar 30, 2015 03:29 PM

@nuleafjhawk I dunno, I saw the look in Frank's eyes after the game. He was clearly hurting. He wasnt brought to tears that I know of but man, it hurt me just to see him. I hope we keep this kid around for another 2 years.

TEA LEAF TIME--GUARDS • Mar 30, 2015 03:26 PM

@jaybate-1.0 You know, I hope your wrong on this. It would be great if all those mentioned come back. Svi, Devonte, Frank, Wayne. We already know Greene is here to stay as per his dad. My spidey senses tell me there is some sort of disconnect between Wayne and Coach, like with Russ Rob except I dont think Wayne will stick around 4 years and get better.
What we really really need is another big to complement Bragg.

Congrats Wissoxfan83 • Mar 29, 2015 12:54 PM

@jaybate-1.0 OH man, those Wisconsin guys are good! I watched that whole game. Arizona was pretty darn good too. But, Sean Miller suxx. What is the count on Mickey D's players for UA and for UW?

Carlton Bragg • Mar 29, 2015 02:19 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Wonder if they are worth going after, ie; what the team needs to fill holes, get better, etc. We need Bigs and wings that can pass and have great b2b games and face up games. We got PG covered.

Carlton Bragg • Mar 29, 2015 12:55 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 WIGS!!

Carlton Bragg • Mar 29, 2015 12:55 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Tyshawn is over seas im guessing?

Carlton Bragg • Mar 29, 2015 12:54 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Has Coach Self gone after/ recruited any of those other guys?

@wissoxfan83 @Jesse-Newell tweeted regarding Wisconsin and I quote," The nation's top offense doesn't seem to be scared of Fools gold"

Rick Barnes • Mar 29, 2015 12:48 AM

@approxinfinity Shaka! Thats just a cool name. My sentiments exactly on having him in the Big 12.

Congrats Wissoxfan83 • Mar 29, 2015 12:46 AM

@brooksmd Yep, Wisconsin just got it does vs an apparent "Nike stack" in Arizona. I think if Wisconsin keeps playing like they just did, they can beat two more "Nike stacks" in Duke and Kensucky, Kensuckarse, Kensuckhole, Kensuckit.

If I am not mistaken, Wisconsin is an Adidas school. just fuel for the Petrol Shoe Co fire @jaybate-1.0

@HighEliteMajor You know what I would really like to see on here is some teaching posts from the board rats with coaching and or playing experience.
I have learned quite a bit about the game just from reading what you all post on here and watching the game over and over. Id like to learn more, retain more, but Im such a visual learner. Id almost have to go out there and play the game. But thats not going to happen anytime soon.

@jayhawk-007 Yeah, thats cool but Im guessing the results would be much different if done again this year.

Stats, numbers, equations, they are all supposed to be flawless in their logic and yet they can be skewed and altered to say nearly anything, any way. So I dont really hold much stock in all that stuff.

What I do is the facts, and those are as follows.

Kansas University Mens Basketball
total wins 2150
Final Fours 14
Elite Eights 21
Tournament Record 96-42
Championship Seasons 1952, 1988, 2008 ( Helms champs '22 '23 )
Tournament Appearances 43

Miss these 2! • Mar 28, 2015 02:04 PM

@HighEliteMajor Yeah, I can see that. I mean out of all the OAD/TAD types that have come through KU, I have to say I miss JoJo the most. That kid was great, huge talent for a footer from KU. Very funny and likeable too.

Miss these 2! • Mar 28, 2015 02:02 PM

@VoyagingJayhawk Hey, on that topic. Shouldnt KU get the 03 title by default? I mean since Syracuse is being shellacked for NCAA violations. I wonder if they include 2003?

@Crimsonorblue22 ahhh i didnt watch the game, just the box scores

@drgnslayr Doesnt UK have to fly in a plane to their next game? just sayin...

@VoyagingJayhawk Me too. And, Utah is 5 down at the half to Duke. Box score says Okafor is having problems with Utah's size.

@jaybate-1.0 Ah yah, good point. totally forgot about all that stuff.
