@jaybate-1.0 The 08 team didnt have this problem, to my knowledge. The 12 team? They were so short on players who could play, Im certain they didnt want to risk them being "nicked up" at the end of March.
@drgnslayr HA! Like syntax! Thats a good one ;)
@drgnslayr Wooo hooo! Legalize it! LMAO
@DanR Oh yah, This next season will be different. Unlimited practices for our guys before they head to Korea? Oh yah, KU will be better.
@DanR You missed Tarik Black leaving last year. Bring yer total up to 5 gone.
@HighEliteMajor It was not long ago, just recently in fact, I read on ESPN some piece on legalizing sports betting for College ball, outside of Vegas. Refs affecting game out comes, and some write up on legalizing sports betting? Can't prove it but it can't be coincidence.
@jaybate-1.0 I didnt see the UK game against UCinn. Or the other one. But I did read very intently about the SMU game. Seems to me that someone didnt want Larry Brown at 77, coaching a mid major team SMU to beat a holier than thou UCLA program. But wait, didnt LB coach UCLA before he got to KU? I dont know JB, I think there is some shady stuff going on in our favorite sport. It does not make me happy.
@jaybate-1.0 Hahaha! Thats what Im sayin! Hey WSU, you suck! Losers!
@jaybate-1.0 @truehawk93 Thats what Im sayin! They are totally restructuring their strategy to be more competitive with Nike in college ball. At least thats my opinion.
@joeloveshawks BG wont start if KU lands another 5 star wing. Svi will also contend for a starting spot next season too. I can see it comin. Kids a stud with a better handle and defense iq
@approxinfinity LMFAO!! For real, better tradition? Since when, yesterday? That is soooo funny!
@dylans I just want Cal to get burned for some NCAA violation before he bails for the League. That would make a total of 3 schools at that point. Wouldnt he almost have to leave then? I seriously intensely dislike that guy sooooo much!
@jaybate-1.0 Here's what I get out of this in a nut shell. KU is no longer Big man U. Especially with Manning gone. Thus far into the shoe co deck stacking, Coach Self is basically still on par with the other coaches as far as success goes, not recruiting.
From what I understand also, is that Adidas is not keeping their contract with the NBA so as to get more competitive in the NCAA. One would think that this is good news for KU, one of the best Adidas linked schools out there. Adidas might be trying to limit and even detract from Nike's monopoly of college ball. Based on that assumption, could it be fair to assume that Adidas will have more influence over five star 5's and 5 star PG's through the path of least resistance?
@drgnslayr Wigs is absolutely a shoe in for ROY, Im glad he was at KU.
@BeddieKU23 I dunno why, but I just had a thought that we were gonna get Diallo.
@drgnslayr Yeah thats him! Ortiz!

Good, thats stellar news. We'll need him.
@drgnslayr We get a boxer at KU on the bench, we should get, Oh I forget his name right now, but he was in Lawrence not that long ago. Pro boxer, really good, maybe from Kansas? Just retired I think?
@BeddieKU23 He mentioned earlier in another article something about the WSU loss being on him. He didnt give that sentiment at all regarding the season. I'd like to see him have some more personal accountability. He is the coach. Down seasons at KU are on him and him alone. I dont like seeing him throw his players under the bus for having a down year.
Yes, KU had a good season, beat last years win/loss by 1.5 games and won the conference and got a 2 seed for their 26th straight NCAA tourney appearance. Thats good. BUT, at KU, it is not great and they could have had a great year if Self had exercised a bit more ahhh, fluidity with his coaching and in game adjustments. Thats on him.
@BeddieKU23 Oh yeah, we absolutely need big recruits this year. I also meant next year too.
@nuleafjhawk For real. The big picture here is consistency. How many final four banners hang in AFH, how many conference banners, how many National Title banners?
What does WSU's gym look like? OH HEY! We beat Kansas, once.
BFD. Yeah, sure they kicked our butts, knocked us off the hill, temporarily. But, thats all it is.
KU is the best div 1 team in the state, with out question. Lil brother just sucker punched us, thats all. We play them again, I would bet money on the tides being turned in a very lunar direction.
@nuleafjhawk yeah right? One freeking game makes WSU kings of Kansas...for a week. No longer. WSU year in year out in the big 12? Theyd be middling at best. At Best!
@KUinLA Ball dont lie. The Big 12 was the best conference in Div 1. That said, yeah we kinda did underachieve in the NCAA's. I had Iowa St going much much further than they did, Baylor too but not by much. OU and WVU are two very good teams. No mistake on that one. WVU has about as good a chance as anyone at beating UK. Heck, Huggie bear has Cal's number. If anyone can beat Cal, its Huggy.
Over all, the Big 12 is just fine. Sure, it would have helped out if KU and ISU didnt bail out early. But thats the NCAA's How many teams in the SEC/SUC conference are left? 1
Big 10? 3. ACC has the best numbers by a wide margin. All that doesnt mean the Big 12 sucks. It just means they had a rough tournament.
@Crimsonorblue22 Psyched!!! Unlimited practices! Big time exposure. Adidas cashing in their NBA monopoly and jumping into NCAA couldnt have come at a better time. Considering KU NEEDS A HUGE recruiting class next year and this will help immensely. Plus, the unlimited practicing time for our guys this summer will basically do for KU what it did for the evil empire Kentucky last summer. KU will be exponentially better next season. I can see it.
@BeddieKU23 Oh man, thats terrible that Svi wont get a chance to play in Korea with the team. Kid is a stud waiting to happen. He just needs to see the lid come off and the light go on....that and gain about 15 lbs of muscle.
@joeloveshawks Dude, I fully expect that KU will have another great tourney run while Bill Self is in Lawrence. The guy is 53ish? My opinion is that his best basketball coaching days are ahead of him. He has not reached his peak yet. That said, we need a couple of huge recruiting years to get there and some guys that will hang around 4 years to learn his system. Both the 08 and the 12 teams were stacked with talent and experience.
@HighEliteMajor Wish you could get in Coach Self's ear about not being so GD stubborn. After the game, I thought to myself, "Did he just get out coached?" I guess we know the answer. Self is a great coach, is a future hall of fame coach. But, does he have to learn to be more fluid with his in game adjustments? Can he learn to? I mean, here we have one of the best active coaches in the game and he gets his rear end handed to him by a mid major!? Again!? He has a greater than 80% win-loss record and his tourney record has got to be near .500. I mean, its just ridiculous. He has won the Big 12 eleven times in a row and most likely will get his 12th, which is a great accomplishment btw, but he gets bounced twice in a row after the first game of the tourney. What the hell? I mean, if this isnt a wake up call for Coach Self to learn to be more like Bruce Lee in his in game strategies, then I don't know.
@jaybate-1.0 Hmmmm, fascinating. No doubt the treys werent falling for KU that night. I sincerely hope that bloody nose Perry got was not on purpose. It didnt look like it was on purpose. Would WSU's coach purposely tell his player to bash in Perry's face, risking concussion and other more serious injury? Would he stoop that low? That would just be some low thuggish Cincinnati type stuff there.
Completely off topic, On the fair to decent chance that WSU plays Kensucky in the elite 8, I hope they do that very thing. Im actually going to hope WSU makes it to that game. I think they have a good chance to beat the Irish to win a match up with UK. Then thug ball it like mad, like they did against KU. Man, I would like to see that. Even if they dont win, they can hurt those younger less experienced UK players, making a loss in the final four even more likely for UK.
My end game here now that KU is out, is to see Kensucky get beat. They must not go 40-0
@jaybate-1.0 Solid point here. We are going to have most, if not all of our same guys back next season and possibly the next one after that. Coach Self knows this and just maybe he is thinking to the future. I mean, I hope he is. I agree with @HighEliteMajor that Coach Self got his ass kicked vs WSU. He didnt make hardly any adjustments in game to give us a better shot at winning. Why would he do that? Why would he be so single minded and stubborn? Why would he basically toss a game in which a sweet 16 was at stake? It makes no sense to me at all.
@HighEliteMajor Frank Mason had a pretty good game but, WSU's PG had just as impressive a stat line and he didnt foul out of the game. Is that part of how WSU inverted? By posting their guards?
@HighEliteMajor Im on #7 and I have a question. Are we going to get a different assistant head coach any time soon? I agree, I think we need someone better. I have no data to support this opinion but I think we have taken a dip offensively since Manning left.
@brooksmd I know, right!? I hope UK gets more than it can handle from Huggy bear.
@drgnslayr Im with you on that one! Go Big 12! That would be sooooooo sweet if WVU could upset UK. At least injure them enough for blood to be in the water and the sharks to come out...figuratively of course.
@drgnslayr I dont intend on staying away. I love the sport too much to do that. I learn things on here that I would never be able to otherwise.
@JhawkAlum You know, I didnt really want to vent this time. But, I will anyways. Im actually just going to ask a lot of questions that I hope some of the more experienced basketball fans on here could answer for me. @HighEliteMajor @jaybate-1.0
Coach Self is 1 - 3 vs the MVC in the tourney!!! What the hell is up with that!?
Did Coach Self get out coached yesterday?
Did the refs swallow their whistles yesterday or what?
Everyone was talking about Perry getting hit yesterday, I didnt think it was more than incidental contact. Was it? Should it have been a flagrant?
It seemed to me that our boys were playing hard but they were having a bad game. Perry, Frank, Devonte, Lucas, Oubre, Traylor, those guys were all fighting hard, it seemed to me. Was that really the case?
Did Coach Self let them come out flat for this one?
Maybe he didnt amp them for that game bcuz he thought they didnt need it??
Closing thoughts; Our boys are young, most of them will be back next season and will absolutely be stronger, more experienced and tougher, more apt to play with a chip on their shoulder every game and finally develop that Killer Instinct again. I have a very good feeling about KU next season, especially if Bragg turns out to be a stud and Cliff comes back and we get at least one more high level recruit to fill in for Oubre in case he bails for the league, which I dont think he should. He got schooled by a tougher, shorter, less athletic and more experienced player last night. How's he gonna make the cut in the big leagues?
@jaybate-1.0 On Coach K, I think thats sad really. I mean all this time I actually respected him as a coach and a face of college basketball being played the way it should be played; ie no deck stacking. He is one of the best out there. I honestly thought he was better than Coach slimy Cal despite having 9 Nike stacks of his own. Now? Im not so certain. I hope he retires soon.
@jaybate-1.0 We got Bragg coming. Im just guessing that Cliff will be back and there is a fair to decent chance now that Kelly is coming back too. IF all that happens, how can we not get skunked on recruiting this year? And, we will still have the same holes in our front court. Provided Cliff doesnt increase his game exponentially over the summer.
@bskeet I wonder, will this loss make it more likely that KU does schedule WSU for some sort of non conference match up in the future? Im thinking we let them come to AFH first in a home and home series, beat their @$%$#$ all good and proper.
@RockChalkChamps I love KU basketball too. Last nights game stung but I didnt even have them picked to win their first game in 3 of my brackets. Im still sad the season is over for our boys. I could see it in Mason's eyes when he went to the bench after fouling out. He had this look in his eyes that said **Never Again, not while I am here. ** We will see who comes back next season but we are most likely going to see everyone back except Oubre. And, even he might come back imo. Plus we should add one or two guys that will help fill our weak spots, I hope. Those boys will be better next year, I know it.
@truehawk93 BINGO!!! Its in Cal's best interest to keep cheating, err stacking the deck.
@SoftballDad2011 Guy seemed pretty humble for having knocked of top seeded Kansas 5 years ago. Seemed pretty non trollish. Good point though, wonder how many interviewees were ahhhh, less than cool.
SEATTLE -- Louisville Cardinals coach Rick Pitino says high school athletes should have the right to enter the NBA draft.
"I'm very much in favor of high school kids going pro," said Pitino, who will lead Louisville against Northern Iowa in a round-of-32 NCAA tournament matchup Sunday, during his pregame comments Saturday. "I had six young men commit to me out of high school that didn't go to college, that went to the pros. I'm very much for that because they didn't want college. They wanted to go to the NBA. And if they go to the [NBA Development League], that's fine with them. But the six-, seven-month education, online classes second semester. I don't know what that does for a young person."

Rick Pitino is all for high school players being eligible for the NBA draft, something he knows Kentucky rival John Calipari doesn't favor.
Pitino added: "Now, I'm different than, probably, the coach of Kentucky, who is having so much success with that."
Kentucky, which is 36-0 after defeating Cincinnati on Saturday, has been led by multiple freshmen throughout John Calipari's tenure. Calipari is 7-1 against Pitino since he was hired in 2009.
Calipari has previously expressed support for a two-year requirement before players can declare for the draft.
Pitino has rarely relied on freshmen to carry his teams. But he has lost multiple star recruits, including Sebastian Telfair, to the NBA.
Spartans coach Tom Izzo said he would welcome a one-and-done talent to Michigan State but added that he is worried about those advised to make the jump to the pros.
"Like everything else in the world, smoking cigarettes was cool, then after research of years and years and years, it develops lung cancer," Izzo said at a news conference Saturday. "So we change our thoughts. We have not researched where a large majority of these guys that come out early [are]. ... Some day, 10 years from now, there's going to be a study of how many kids came out and ended up on the streets. That's the crime of this whole thing."
Izzo said if he was a kid in that situation he would enjoy the college experience.
"I would take a completely different approach -- not what's best for the NBA, not what's best for the college, what truly is best for the kid and how can we work around it," he said.
The current rules -- that a player must be 19 years old to enter the NBA draft -- could change once the NBA and National Basketball Players Association enter negotiations for the next collective bargaining agreement in 2017. Commissioner Adam Silver has said that he is in favor of an age limit of 20 years old for potential draftees.
Pitino disagrees with the age limit, which essentially forces elite athletes to attend college for a season or compete overseas for a year if they desire advanced competition.
"College is not for everybody," Pitino said. "So if a kid doesn't want to go to college, let him go to the pros. Let him go into the [D-League]. And if someone does want to go to college, let them go. We're still going to have great basketball teams."
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said the decision is out of the hands of college coaches.
"It really doesn't matter what I would want. It's what the players' union and the NBA would decide on," Krzyzewski said.
@HighEliteMajor I am positively scared, like Michael
@approxinfinity HA! Thats funny stuff. Those funny guys, playing with that poor lady. Although she was probly having fun too. I hope WIsconsin wins it all this year, if they dont end up playing KU that is.
@drgnslayr I fully agree. This game will be a tough bar brawl all the way down to the final second. I think KU matches up very well with WSU based on your descriptions. Height doesn't mean everything as we have seen already this season. If our boys can take care of the ball, win the boards and at least break even with fouls and t/o's, it'll be a close game. Both teams will leave it on the court. This game means more than a sweet 16 appearance.
@jaybate-1.0 Seriously, that was awesome. I wish you had been my English/Literature teacher in high school. I loved your references from sports and religion to aesthetics, poetry and philosophy. Inspiring stuff Jaybate, truly. Where's that book of yours?
On to the impending game today. I will just say this; KU and WSU will both play tough and bring their A games. This is more than just an NCAA game for the sweet 16. This is in-state bragging rights and 22 years of built up tensions between the programs, albeit most of it coming within the last couple years. Both teams will come out and compete hard and leave it on the court. Win or lose this game, I am proud to be a Jayhawk today.
@SoftballDad2011 WHOA!!!
@DoubleDD Ahhh yah, that makes send DD. Very good point. Likelihood of all 4 #1 seeds making the final four again?? 0.01%
@joeloveshawks Nice!
