It would have been 29 or 30 would it not been for the trouble that Larry Brown got us into after the '88 title. What other high elite major team can say that? None, thats how many. Not Duke, UNC, UCLA, UK, IU. None of the bluest blue bloods can say that! Sure UK and Duke and UNC have a couple more titles than KU and I would rather have the ring myself but that stretch of tourney appearances has got to be just as impressive as Coach Self's 11th straight conference championship.
@Hawk8086 Yah, you know I kinda thought that was weird too cuz Ummmmm we have 6 guys that can gun it from trey. Granted the lid has been tightened down on the bucket like like a hatch on a ship during general quarters. But, thats lids off now and at the perfect time. I just hope it stays off.
@DoubleDD I have to disagree on the 08 team. Yah sure everyone was picking UNC or Memphis that year but our boys were stone cold killers that year. They were hard. Easily one of KU's best teams in Self's tenure and possibly Roy's.
@DoubleDD I like your reasoning. I feel compelled to keep not believing though. So far it has worked well. Wichita state is gonna be amped for us tomorrow and KU will be amped for WSU.

@REHawk Of course they have an edge. KU is like the 8th youngest team in Div 1. Hasnt changed all year. Could be a factor tomorrow but most likely it will come down to who wants the game more. Coach Self > Coach whatshisname
@Shanghai_RCJH WSU's guards have the experience edge on KU's guards. But, that wont scare Mason or Devonte. Plus WSUs guards will have to play both ends, guarding drives and the trey strip

@wissoxfan83 True man, true. If Oubre is gone, we still have Svi who should be much better, the kid is a stud, he just needs time in the summer to bulk up and learn the game more
I am only stating opinion here because I have no stats to back it up. But, I really think Mason is a lot like Sherron. The kid is a stud. He shoots better than Sherron did. He knows how to set up his guys for shots and create his own shot in different ways. He is quick and bulldog tough. His assist to t/o ratio might not be on par with Sherron's at KU but its got to be close. One thing for sure is Mason has a nose for rebounds. Against NMST with 17, 9 & 4. Thats awesome.
I asked @Jesse-Newell to write something about Mason Vs Collins after the season is over. I hope there is something there worth mentioning besides my own personal feelings on the topic.
@VailHawk I believe KU is tougher than WSU. WSU claims to be tough and play angry. I think the Shockers will be shocked at how tough KU is.

@JayHawkFanToo I just think we have to be realistic in light of our current teams injuries and deficiencies. I dont want them to lose. I just think there is a better chance that they will. Id rather be surprised that they broke my bracket and moved on than let down when I pick them to win and they fall.

@Lulufulu I filled out 4 brackets on the ESPN challenge. 3 of them, I picked KU to get bounced in the first game. My 4th bracket I picked KU to win it all. If thats not manic picking, I dont know what is. I call my 4th bracket my dream bracket simply because I picked KU to win it all and because I picked every big 12 team to reach at least the sweet 16.

@Crimsonorblue22 One more thing. I picked my brackets trying to be as objective as I possibly can be. No favorites, no biases. Just picking the teams with the best chance to win imo. New Mexico State has been on a roll lately and while their competition isnt to the caliber of what KU has had to face, they have put together a string of wins while KU has gone 5-4 and having injuries to pretty much their whole team. My opinion, KU is to banged up to beat a good team in its first match up, no matter what tricks Coach Self pulls out for the game.
@Crimsonorblue22 I am not expecting anything. I hope they will win but I dont believe they will. I dont expect them to lose but I believe it is more likely that they will. Its a conundrum to be sure.
This team has become a conundrum of sorts in itself. They are great and disappointing all at the same time.
@Crimsonorblue22Sort of. What I am trying to say is this, Coach Self will have them ready to fight for the win, healed up or not. The team will be ready to go leave it on the court. I am just not personally expecting KU to win.

@JayHawkFanToo Naaaaaah, Duke over Gonzaga. Duke is actually from a tough conference. Gonzaga's conference is second tier compared to the ACC. Plus, Gonzaga doesnt have a duo like Jones and Okafor.

Everyone needs to stop holding Self and KU to different standards than other elite coaches and programs. Self hasn't even had his first Cal trip to lose in the first round of the NIT! And this team has lost way more to injury and suspension and started with less talent than that UK team started with.

Face it. He is a genius and better than the rest, except for Coach K. And if he were to stay around as long as Coach K, he would probably exceed his win total, for the same reason Coach K and Knight exceeded Dean's total wins. They coached in eras with longer seasons for similarly long numbers of season. And Dean exceeded Rupp for the same reason. And Rupp exceeded Allen for the same reason. If there were a way to index total wins for games played I suspect Allen would be the winningest coach all time still, though Rupp might be neck and neck.

@jaybate-1.0 I hope you are right dude. I hope you are. I really had to let my expectations go after the ISU loss. The whole team is injured.
I know @HighEliteMajor made a reference to our trey shooting taking a precipitous drop after Coach called it BS. I dont think that was the only factor. Psychology alone did not cause Brannen to drop from 50% on treys to 15%. That goes for all the other players too. Injury and psychology both played a HUGE part.
For everyone who reads this, I am not giving up hope that KU can make a run, I am just letting my expectations of such run fall away. I wont expect a single win, but I will hope KU proves me wrong. I do hope.
@jaybate-1.0 You were right about your win/loss prediction at the start of the year. Looking back on that prophetic vision, did you think for one second that KU would make a deep NCAA run? I realize thats quite different from all the empirical data we have now. Now we have seen how KU can win games and how they can lose games.
I would love nothing more than to see KU prove me wrong and beat the tar out of their first two opponents by 4 points each wink and then move on to do the same the following weekend!
@jaybate-1.0 Fascinating is the basketball tree of life. By the time Self hangs it up for KU, Manning, Haase and Vaughn could all be serious contenders for the job. Or at UNC with Roy's replacement.
@BeddieKU23 Ellis is hurt. So is Selden, Oubre, Landen, Traylor and Greene. Mason and Devonte got hurt earlier and they also may not be complete. Cliff is gone, we wont see him again. We are at 1/3rd strength at best. They wont win against a hungry NMST team looking for its first win. If they do, they certainly wont beat the second team, whoever that turns out to be.
That said, I did have one bracket where I picked KU to win it all, just because I hope. And, because I love KU.
