SELF WORKING HIS BUTT OFF... • Apr 18, 2015 06:49 PM

@Wigs2

We need his potential talent, but in my limited view of him I think he is a long way from being able to contribute in an organized scheme. Tremendous ability and athleticism and if it were 1 on 1 he would excel, but I thought he had limited court awareness and had trouble competing against people of a similar skill set. Add the one semester and done comment and the whole circus that seems to follow him and I just don't think he is a good fit in Bill Self's system.....but that is just my honest opinion......so take it for what it's worth.......nada!

@HighEliteMajor

Thanks for the response.

I agree with your assessment on all counts.

Would add that I suspect he would be able to add a basic B2B repertoire to compliment his existing skill set.....if he values becoming more well rounded. He has the speed, agility and hand-eye coordination to do it......if he has the interest it should come pretty quickly.

I know he can't play in the world university games if he becomes a Jayhawks.........but has anyone read whether he can practice with the team while they prepare?

SELF WORKING HIS BUTT OFF... • Apr 18, 2015 05:03 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

I agree. TRob and Withey were around long enough to get coached up.

JoJo was simply a sponge-like prodigy that absorbed everyone's advice.

Cheick is a must have, no doubt.

Was just a bit surprised how advanced he was in some areas, but didn't attempt to block out . And was curious to know what I was missing.

And by the way I only watched the first five minutes before switching to the Royals......so i didn't see any of the game after he scored on the spin move to make it 10-10.

SELF WORKING HIS BUTT OFF... • Apr 18, 2015 04:55 PM

@HighEliteMajor

I am not a well developed X & O guy.

Chieck's athleticism , agility and motor impressed be a lot.

But what did you think of his defensive rebounding prowess on the first two defensive possessions of the game. He didn't try to block out on either of them. Got the first rebound because of a long kick of the rim and considerable effort/tenacity. Second rebound was another whiff in terms of blockout.

He is a must get if at all possible, not saying anything to the contrary. I want him in Crimson & Blue next year.

I was just curious whether you had seen the same things or can tell me what my untrained eyes were missing. Appears to me there is a lot of room for technique improvement and positioning.....which are easy fixes if he is receptive........and then look-out!

What were your observations/Thoughts?

I'm hearing Cheick Diallo to Kansas??? • Apr 15, 2015 04:12 AM

The whole Diallo thing is making my head spin.

KU has been in the race all along. ISU was gaining a lot of traction but then Mullin hires Jeff A away from ISU. So St. John's starts getting traction.

Then St John's hires Slice from Kentucky, but in explicably KU rises from the ashes yesterday when St. John's signs Sima and flies to Greece to pursue the 7'2" guy over there..

Today St. John's takes over the lead on 247 Crystal Ball, but several analysts are still saying Kansas is the likely destination and that it will be announced Friday at the Jordan Brand.

then late this afternoon recruiting analyst extraordinaire Jerry Meyer indicates that KU is still his pick if Chieck goes to college......but that overseas has become a more likely option because Chieck's high school has had some difficulty getting athletes through the NCAA clearinghouse in the past few years.

So, who knows?!?!?!??

I think he can improve as Tarik did by being in the KU system.

But I also wonder if having a better supporting cast may have an impact on their stat lines too. More open looks, more rebound opportunities, put backs, etc.....thoughts?

Twitter posts are indicating the lead recruiter on Diallo from Kentucky is close to agreeing to workfor St. John's. That would mean key contacts from his recruitment at both Iowa State and Kentucky will now be pulling him toward St Johns.

Not Good!

How Bad Can This Get? • Apr 10, 2015 05:25 PM

@drgnslayr no doubt. our international experience could be brutal. and it could be even if Perry stays. that wouldn't be much fun for any of us.

but even if that happens we still get the benefit of having a summer to practice, to build chemistry, get court time in real game situations and get additional time to learn HCBS's system.

If there were ever a year in which we need a competitive advantage, this may be it........and while I would like for us to show well internationally, regardless of that outcome, I am thankful our team - whoever is on it - will have a chance to improve while every other college team is locked out of the gym.

But the bigger picture here is that as fans of KU basketball...........WE ARE SO FRIGGIN' SPOILED.

We have a nearly unprecedented streak of conference championships, we are approaching the all time record for most consecutive NCAA national tournament appearances, we have been nationally ranked for nearly every week during the past decade and a half, we rarely lose two games in a row (and almost NEVER lose three in a row), despite playing a schedule that is among the nation's toughest every year.

every bull market has a correction and the longer you go without that correction the more devastating the correction usually is.

We are due for that correction.. Long over due.

Hopefully a few years from now, we will look back and ONLY going 1-1 in three or four NCAA tournaments will be the extent of our correction.

But if not, so be it, we're going to have to deal with it. and calling for the head or second guessing one of the great coaches in college basketball.......in my opinion......is not the best way to deal with it. The old adage of being careful for what you wish for could certainly bite us in the butt when we get it.

I too get frustrated when we make an early exit from the tournament.

But I get even more frustrated when we - including me - let ourselves take for granted how truly fortunate we are.

I guess I wish all of us would keep an open mind.

And next time we are upset with a 9 or 10 loss season (after forgetting that it came against the toughest schedule in the nation while we played with xth youngest team in the country.....and we try to compare it to a 3-6 loss season that came against the 50th-100th ranked strength of schedule while playing with a group of experienced and talented players) I hope we can stop and recognize that we still have it pretty good.

and that it could get worse.....lots worse.

Let's go 'Hawks!

Kansas OAD Info... • Apr 04, 2015 05:02 PM

@Statmachine agreed......as long as we are assured immunity from the NCAA that nothing from this fiasco could come back and bite us on down the road. That risk is the only thing that scares me about him coming back.

What is Adidas up too? • Apr 04, 2015 05:00 PM

@DoubleDD I think we have a better team! Just not sure Self's history of making big time recruits earn their minutes goes over well with some of them.

I really appreciated Bragg's comments that basically said (paraphrasing here) he didn't expect minutes and didn't think freshman were supposed to get them until they earned them. Those are the guys I want on our team.....just not many of them out there these days,

@Crimsonorblue22 Good read. Thanks for sharing. TRob deserves a chance and some peace in his life. Hope this is the beginning of something good for him.

@Statmachine interesting. an indication of who the team is hoping for?

Kansas OAD Info... • Apr 04, 2015 02:19 PM

@Statmachine interesting stuff! Notice any uptick from players from the other front-running teams?

@truehawk93 I believe the reason that St. John's is gaining traction for Diallo is because one of Coach Mullin's first moves was to hire ISU's lead recruiter for his staff - who had been working closely with Diallo. Couple that with St. John's proximity to Diallo's current school and they have gotten a bump in the crystal ball.

Going off on a different tangent - how do you think Hoiberg would do with OADs? He has done very well with experienced transfers who have already seen time on the court at the collegiate level - some who have paid their dues and experienced hardship, so they have a renewed sense of purpose (ala Royce White).

The Mayor is certainly willing to change his approach to cater to the skill set his roster brings to the table.

But I wonder whether OADs have the basketball IQ necessary to excel when trey-balling or transition hoops aren't working and he starts running hybrids and gimmicks to exploit weaknesses. How many OADs have the ability to grasp an understanding of that many offensive nuances?

We know our OADs can't master Self's singular system and that Kentucky's offense is far from prolific.

I hope the violation comments were tongue in cheek.

Dean Smith was a class act who represented his (and our) State and his alma meter with respect and dignity.

And - just my opinion - while he coached a rival institution and put a few lumps on us, I feel his legacy should be respected.

nothing about the NCAA's enforcement division will ever surprise me, but I would hope that a Coach who retired in 1997 and whose youngest recruits would have exhausted their eligibility 13 +/- years ago would be allowed to bequeath assets to them without NCAA scrutiny. Pretty classy act in my opinion.

Just my $0.02.

A Juicy New Rumor About Cliff • Mar 24, 2015 07:44 PM

@globaljaybird lol!

@wissoxfan83 I apologize for reposting.....didn't see your post. My bad!

@truehawk93 I think yours was a rhetorical question, but Farokhmanesh is now on-staff as a coach for the University of Nebraska. Title was something like "Coach-Graduate Manager".

A Juicy New Rumor About Cliff • Mar 24, 2015 07:22 PM

@RockChalkinTexas

All speculation at this point. So anything is a possibility.

While not universal, a general rule is that co-signers are used for consumer transactions and a guaranty is used for commercial transactions. Not always the case.....just the norm.

Cliff providing guaranty is certainly a possibility. And in the world of finance, Cliff's signature on some sort of a promise to repay would be a logical requirement if the source of repayment is indeed Cliff's future earnings.

Anyone who specializes in loans to prospective draft picks (as has been stated about this firm) should know their source of repayment could be impaired if an impermissible benefit could be proven and their client's draft stock were to plummet.

So maybe the loan amount was low enough that they weren't reliant upon NBA earnings......so they got Cliff's signature without regard for his college eligibility because they knew he could make enough to repay the loan by playing in Europe.

Or maybe the information they used in underwriting led them to believe that Cliff would be a first rounder with guaranteed money even in a worst case scenario.....and they got his signature.

But also keep in mind that anyone with adequate earnings and/or net worth could provide guaranty......doesn't have to be a familial relationship.

A credit worthy friend, neighbor, mentor, runner, agent........ could serve in this role.

Anyone - relative nor not - would/should at a minimum want reassurance of repayment by the borrower (so they don't have to repay).

But most non-relatives would likely expect a return in exchange for the risk they are taking.

The UCC filed in Cliff's mom's name is not indicative of a mortgage loan (real estate) or vehicle loan (perfected by a lien on a title). A UCC is used to perfect a lien on non-titled personal property.

But unless documents surface, all we can do is speculate.

@Crimsonorblue22 ....that was my first thought too. Be interesting to know how many they discarded for not being civil!

@Lulufulu - I should have clarified.

The UNC streak of 27 straight appearances is not an active streak. Just the longest streak on record. I'll see if I can find where I read it so you can have the link,

Got to believe we are a lock to beat that, unless Cliff's situation causes some collateral damage.

Cliff • Mar 10, 2015 11:04 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

The UCC filing I located listed the same creditor in the yahoo article.

I have been a lender for 20 years.

The method you mention is basically unsecured lending.....no collateral taken. or you could take collateral but choose not to "perfect" the lien, meaning you chose not to file the appropriate documents to put other lenders on notice that you filed the lien.

If a lender goes this path, they risk another creditor gaining the legal right to seize the collateral.....even if that lender loaned money after the first loan.

If the creditor mentioned in the yahoo article filed a UCC it was to perfect is claim in non-titled property - commonly called chattels - a UCC financing statement is used to accomplish this.

A UCC financing statement is nothing more than a public notice to let other potential creditors know that a lien has already been filed against some form of property. This minimizes the risk of a borrower double pledging collateral to different creditors.

Inventory, account receivable, contract rights, non-titled machinery and equipment, general intangibles, tort claims, etc all use this method.

some non-titled consumer goods loans are also perfected this way.......household goods, small watercraft, etc.

If there was a specific contract involved you can also take an assignment of that specific contract which involves additional steps......but in this case, Cliff had no contract to take on assignment on.
