Crisp passing. And Bilas is gushing on us
Up by 10, so nice
Jesse Newell says no way his prediction can be worse than last week where he picked KU by 2. He says we lose by 5 today.
I say bull crap. No way we let Shmeksas Drek sweep us this year. Even against a way better defensive team than BlowU, our new chemistry explodes again and the home team folds under the glare of ESPN Game Day lights. KU by 11.
Yes it does seems different this year. Usually we dominate the regular seasons and then seem to wear down in mid February, injuries small and large accruing.
This year we struggled early, played thin, lost a super frosh, had some bad losses, 3 unthinkably at home even, but now seem to be gathering steam instead of wearing out as March rolls around. I think it bodes really well for us. I too smell a run. I think we're going to bury TT hard Saturday.
Agree with most of the Duece bashing, but I gotta admit, some of those passes were things of beauty.
I just had this crazy vision of D-man going into unstoppable beast mode in March and ripping a path to the FF.
I know, I know, it's just one game, and he's just a kid, and it's highly highly unlikely, but I was really smiling thinking, yea, but what if he did...
I don't believe anyone thinks Self doesn't make mistakes and that he and the players are above criticism. But this is pretty much a "fan" board isn't it? The definition of a fan being "If you are a fan of someone or something, you like them very much and are very interested in them."
Discussing and criticizing is good and healthy, but if your posts insult or drags everyone else down who comes here to not only learn more about the team and the game, but to get fired up about being a fan, well I wonder if those posts might be thought out a bit more?
HEM and KU Steve (and Jaybate of course) are two of my long time favorites here. To see them trade insults kinda bummed me out. Even the topic of this thread is divisive (so much of that all around these days, sad to see it here too.
I used to teach a night class at a local college called Intro to Graphic Design. Sometimes the project critiques of budding creatives by their fellow students could be harsh. I was never harsh, because, well, they were budding creatives - even though sometimes their projects really stank. But as an intelligent and caring adult, I balanced the need to give honest feedback with being cognizant of peoples feelings, and with the reason we were all there.
We board rats usually do a pretty good job of balancing this too, hope it continues.
@BShark I have a funny feeling that Desousa won't be behind Mitch too much longer
@KUSTEVE good call on the 100+
Hope you predict it again on Saturday!
Sports center called the dunk of the game that one by Desousa. That last one by Sam looked pretty authoritative too! I second the notion it's the most complete game of the year. Love the full bench usage too
It's good to be Jayhawk!
Was just going to say that. Major ass kickin tonight
Going to be 100+ Tonight, that's a nice change.
The young freshman is making the most with the opportunity tonight. Smooth FT stroke in addition to some strong grabby hands
Lol, a little non call payback, as defender jumps, falls on desousa as desousa collapse under the weight, he's called for traveling. Uh yea.
Garrett with the calm put back, love it
Desousa in and Graham out, don't see that every day
Total spanking!
Dang the okies are icy cold. Sure hope they stay that way. Would love to hang a nasty record setting loss on em tonight
I didn't like him in this line up most of the year because he was a non-scorer that opposing teams didn't have to guard at all allowing double teams on someone else. And most of the season when Malik, who often took (takes) terrible shots, and Vick who disappeared, and Doke who mostly could only dunk, Garrett was a huge liability on offense and part of our losses.
Now that he has shown he can drop a 3 or drive to the rim on occasion, completely different story and I look forward to cheering him on in many future games. The fact that he is likely a multi year glue guy is muey bueno!
@BeddieKU23 yea, but they still lose to the good guys
@Statmachine Thuggins teams foul nearly every play too. Even Bilas was pointing out a few of the many blatant missed calls like when Garrett got his face elbowed back hard on the way up to a basket and when a mutineer completely put his arms around, holding I think Svi, and instead of a foul the ref gave him a warning.
Speaking of Garrett, hats off to him this game, he actually scored some nice points in addition to his usual "glue" play.
And speaking of hats, way to pull another rabbit out of this one, Jayhawks! Just when I think you've ran out of gas, hustle and luck, you come away with another must-have win.
Monday should be very interesting indeed...
They can't miss. Miles 4 for 6 3s jeez
Yea can't believe the 3s they're making. Is Svi on the board even? And Malik another no show so far too.
Doke 2 more FTs!
Doke hook!
@mayjay yes!
Dok hits both FTs! Never saw that before
Garrett took a big hit to the head near the rim. No foul. Refs really letting them hammer away
REEFER MADNESS - Originally financed by a church group under the title Tell Your Children, the film Reefer Madness was a 1936 American propaganda film revolving around the melodramatic events that ensue when high school students are lured by pushers to try marijuana—from a hit and run accident, to manslaughter, suicide, attempted rape, hallucinations, and descent into madness due to marijuana addiction.
As of October 2017, 64% of all Americans say pot use should be made legal.
If any of the guys are smoking, you can bet they did not just pick it up recently. So any good games and HS highlights you watched of them were also while they were smoking. And if Self really thought it was an issue, $10 buys you an accurate drug test kit and he could put a quick end to it.
And just for fun...On June 12, 1970, Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis threw a no-hitter despite being high as a kite on lysergic acid diethylamide, otherwise known as acid. Facing the Padres at the old San Diego Stadium, Ellis took the mound having dropped acid earlier that day and blanked the Friars. It was the first and only no-hitter of Ellis' career.
Am I advocating pot, acid, alcohol or tobacco use by KU athletes? Of course not, those all impair your performance. But blaming our current issues on pot... well that seems like something out of 1936 propaganda film to me.
@drgnslayr that was sarcasm, right?
@nuleafjhawk no, did a week at this killer Air BnB on a beach in Costa Rica.
@Crimsonorblue22 sorry, didn't mean to sound snotty. We all want the same thing here - for the good guys to win. (And the margaritas in the airport on our long layover in Houston today were strong)
@Crimsonorblue22 ah, yes, I missed that 8-3 vs 8-4, my bad. This completely changes things - time to throw in the towel for sure now.
Thank you for this! I just got back in the country from vacation and peeked at the boards and some scores. All this talk of the game today being over in the first few minutes and looking to next year.
Jeez, you'd think we were tied for last place instead of tied for first! Yea, we had some off games but so has everyone else.
To paraphrase Devo - are we not fans, we are KU! (Okay that might be the margaritas talking, but you get the idea, the fat lady ain't close to singing yet)
@dylans and how about a good chunk of the KSU game Self running a zone defense?? Liberace pointed out "they don't play zone". This new flexiBill does!
"The Kansas Jayhawks have defeated the Kansas State Wildcats for the 195th time in this long series. No team in Division 1 has defeated another team more times than KU has beaten K-State"
Court storming for under 10 pts, nice one, that made me chuckle.
@JayHawkFanToo Great share, thanks.
I liked the Graham interview.
I liked Jevon Carters non-answer to what its like to play for Huggins "Pause. More pause. Well, uh, you know, main thing playing for a legendary coach, I couldn't pass that up. I wasn't highly recruited coming out of high school, I couldn't pass that up."
I liked the Graham interview.
And lastly, I liked this line from the article as I've wondered about the same thing: "The various computer power ratings love the Big 12. So as the conference of fickle fate recommences, here’s what you wonder: Are the recent scores reflective of teams starting to show flaws, or the inevitable bleeding when you go swimming with sharks?"
When the other B12 teams do their early exits every year from the dance, is it because our conference isn't as good as people think it is, or because they're all bleeding? Combo maybe?
@KUSTEVE Ha! I went away from the live game posts for awhile for same reason - some of the Debbie Downers here just can't handle losing a game now and then and really bring the whole vibe of this FAN board down. I guess we all get disappointed and whine on occasion, but some of the hand-wringers take it way too far for my tastes. I find your upbeat posts are a nice counterpoint.
Two big reasons our D looked so good last night - the Liberacettes are dead last in rebounding in B12 - when we are 10+ rebounds like last night we get to transition and speed things up.
And that zone totally threw them off. I've watched in pain as we've reacted that bad to a zone, a real pleasure to be on the giving end. Specially to our purple neighbors.
Couple other thoughts...
Self is great in so many ways, adding this newfound flexibility to his tried and true ways to his arsenal is just deadly.
Much like I was with Lucas last year, going from wincing when he played to cheering, I'm that way with New-man now.
Watching Mitch just makes me smile.
If we keep up this steady improvement, we are going be dancing later than we have in years.
Onwards and upwards!
@BShark yea, only thing on espn now about the game is that "Lebronlike" swat! Beautiful
@mayjay yes, seeing some confidence that they can geterdone without frank
After some shaky moments earlier, #14 is lookin pretty good right about now. Amazing. How much is KU and how much is Big12 infighting...
@Kcmatt7 plus there seems to be a general sense of improvement overall, coach getting looser, iffy players getting solid, defense getting less soft.
A good time to be a Jayhawks!
I'm sure it was the refs fault Liberace lost again
Self vs Weber, not much of a matchup yet again
Dang, would not have thought this comfortable a win
Definitely don't want to see mitch hurt
New-man!
Dok with new mechanics at the line and makes one!
