Tonight and until every last 7' footer signs with a program I need everyone to say a little prayer that we land 1 or 2 guys that fit HCBS hi low offence so we don't have to continue to watch BAD BALL!!! Please dear Lord send us some help on the front court!!!! Someone that can catch an inlet pass back to the basket turn and shoot! Some one that played volleyball and soccer until they were 7' foot and too tall to play either sport. Someone that can learn HCBS ball in one short summer and be ready to dominate the big12 and stay for 2-3 years... AMEN
First time I have smiled since KU's loss this past weekend. How did anyone think HEM was a girl???
Its still not as fun to watch bad ball lol! Prior to last year our KU basketball was like a well oiled machine. There was chemistry, there was high flying chest bumps after great plays, countless alley-oops, and there was something comforting when your favorite team beats everyone by double figures! I used to really enjoy watching KU basketball now I am just nervous every game lol.
I WISH COACH WOULD LET ME SHOOT 3'S
@tis4tim The real problem is HCBS trying to run his HI LOW offence, his bread and butter! NEWSFLASH HCBS your HI LOW offence is NOT going to work this year and the FOOLS GOLD is the only thing you have going for you... He asks his fan base what are you supposed to do when the 3's aren't falling? I say to HCBS what do you do when your HI LOW offence isn't working (which it never has this season)???? You BOMB 3's and hope that your averages pan out coach!!! I would rather watch Alexander attempt a 3 before watching Oubre get picked attempting to throw Alexander an inlet pass!
@Kip_McSmithers He is a 6'8" SF according to ESPN
@Kip_McSmithers I think the Nets need a serviceable PF more than anyone in the league. With Mirza Teletovic out for the season with blood clots in his lungs and Kevin Garnett traded to the timber wolves. That leaves the Nets with Cory Jefferson and Brandon Davies as their only 2 PF's on the roster.
@DCHawker It's only a 10 day contract. I am guessing that both parties are testing the waters?
Last year UCON a 7 seed and UK an 8 seed with a combined 18 losses in the regular season battled their way into April. Anything can happen in March and KU will be dancing so I'm personally good with that!
I'm still on the fence but who isn't?
http://fansunfiltered.com/rpi-has-a-point-kansas-can-be-a-final-four-team/ ↗ ↗
Its really hard to beat a top 25 team and their ref's in the final 2 minutes without a 10 pt lead or more. I remember telling my friend we were done with only a 6pt lead in the final 2 min. He looked at me like I was stupid but in the end I was spot on.
No Svi, Wigs, or Jojo! I do remember HCBS saying that they get unlimited practice time to prepare for the games! UNLIMITED guys! That's going to make a HUGE difference in our non conf schedule and beyond! Hopefully it also helps the recruiting cards fall our direction?
I don't see Cliff going pro I actually think he is a good size for his position at the college level but not at the pro level. He needs to develop a lot more before he is ready to take his game to the NBA. Name one NBA starting 4 that Cliff would hold his own against?
@JayHawkFanToo Withey was also a rs sophomore that only played 6.2 min a game and I remember watching him thinking he would NEVER play any real minutes. Just sayn
@nuleafjhawk I would put money on it that Snacks steps down before he is fired. That's how things usually pan out at KU. Jacque Vaughn would be a huge addition to the KU staff if he were to take an assistant coaching job? I would imagine that he has been contacted by other universities already and will take a head coaching job at UT after this season lol.
This would be the perfect opportunity to bring in Jacque Vaughn to take his place if KU/HCBS course of action is to let Snacks go.
@jaybate-1.0 Yeah their both looking to win their conferences and make the tourney. It will look good for us on selection Sunday if they do make it to the dance and we take the next 2 games!
Our schedule has not been easy at all and these next 2 teams are ranked in the top 100 (no cupcakes) according to yahoo RPI. What I have noticed is that KU is one of the only teams in the top 10 that have played a brutal schedule and the only team to come out 8-1 against top competition. After the UK game no one would have said we took the next 7 games and won the tiny tourney against the vols and the sparty's. I think that Bill Self and our team has really navigated through these waters well. Not many of the top teams have a true road game either and most of there schedules are littered with cupcakes! KU is conference ready if you ask me but our Conference RPI is ranked 1st or 2nd in the country so there aren't any days off or cupcakes there either! If 6 of our conference teams are tournament bound then we will have played 12 tournament games plus the 6-8 we played during our non con.
Our Guys are going to be more than ready come March!!!
@Crimsonorblue22 I live in TX but am originally from Maize. Wandering who you are now?
I also think this years conf is going to be the hardest fought battle in the HCBS era! Our conf is sooo good this year. I just hope our guys are ready in less than a month to get down to business!
@bskeet A cautionary note or two: 1: KU is the third "luckiest team" this year.... I HOPE THE LUCK CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND!
Our guys are ironing out all the wrinkles. Day by day they are learning. You can see them progressing nearly every game. You can see the cream rising to the top. Our rotation is becoming more defined each game. Our 3pt % from our 2 PG's and Greene are outstanding and probably make the best 3pt trio in college basketball if they can maintain it until march! If you look at Ellis and Alexander you see a high shot percentage and Alexander's ppm is super high! I have no idea how HCBS is going to work in all of our guards but the guys that are not knocking down 3's better start spending time shooting more 3's. That is going to be this teams identity with Ellis hanging out on the perimeter and our C walking their man out to the free throw line for the inlet pass, long rebounds, and put backs!
Oh yeah this is a good article too!
Over the next 3 games we will play 3 more top 100 opponents and will have played the toughest schedule to date! According to yahoo RPI Temple and Lafayette are in the top 100. Utah is going to be another close one IMO but I suppose we will see? Our guys are going to go into our conference battle tested more so than anyone! That is what's going to make the difference. I like to watch us kill cupcakes but I think this is the way to go about business, Even though is not easy to watch our guys down by 18 against Florida and all of the close games that have had me screaming at the television set like an idiot! This is going to get us ready for another match up with UK and I know we are all ready for that rematch!
For those of you too lazy to go look its
FG% FT% 3PT%
Ellis .442 .764 .241 Needs to stop this lol
Alexander . 462 .702 .000
Mason .426 .862 .471
Greene .484 .1000 .522
Graham .450 .724 .500
I believe Selden will stay on the floor and Oubre will work his way in the rotation but that 3pt % from the 3 listed is going to make us Deadly if Self can keep these guys driving and dishing!
If you check out our top 6 in scoring and look at their shooting %'s you will see our starting 5 coming together. HCBS sees it just like the rest of us and if we can keep those %'s up with increased minutes our teams offence will be the best in the nation!
!Greene.jpg ↗ I just kept seeing this on kusports.com.. Its pretty funny and I bet Brannen catches poo for that comment!
@Wigs2 Can you post a link I missed that...
@Lulufulu Cameras weren't allowed in to the event as far as I know. The media was there after for the press conference which I posted. If someone would have bought the dvd and posted it on youtube I probably would have found it by now. Sorry Lulu....
How about Tarik Black? Going undrafted to the #10 spot on the NBA Rookie ladder!!!
I have been wondering if lifting weights is effecting Svi's shot? ALL of his shots are long if you have been keeping an eye on it. Is the strength and conditioning bothering his shot? Could be mental could be physical but as for right now its a very real thing. Oubre is shooting 50% from 3 just like Greene but he is not playing? I don't know how all the pieces are coming together but I trust HCBS to fit it together.
@Crimsonorblue22 You're right BUT when the objective is to out score your opponent then scoring is kind of a big deal. A difference of 80 points over 3 games is a heck of a lot of points and I am sure that the drop in defense doesn't account for 80 points. If you add 80 points over 3 games we would have an average of about 90pts per game. Our opponents would have had to hang over 90 points on us to beat us... I can see the reason HCBS plays the guys he is playing but seriously when our guys start to fire on all cylinders its going to be night and day better than what we have now...
@HighEliteMajor I haven't got completely into gear and this is a really small sample size. For example if you gave Mickelson Traylors minutes he would average 15pts 5 boards and 5 blocks. I would have to think that Ellis, Alexander, and Lucas would be our 3 bigs. No more Mason, and start Selden at point Mason has 5ast to 5 turnovers and Selden 12 to 5 and has about the same stat line outside of that. Go with Svi, and Green starting with Oubre coming off the bench. The rest is situational depending on who we are playing and needs of the team.
My take so far 3 games into the season. The starters or guys that have put in the most minutes have tallied up 107 points in 384 minutes of play. The next 5 guys with fewer minutes have 83 points in 187 minutes of action. If you flop the minutes our bench would have put up 169 points. Once the bench starts to play instead of think our guys are going to KILL IT!!! Hope it happens before conference play.
@HighEliteMajor The #1 Key to victory on this list should have been infect UK's whole team with Ebola! The only way we had a chance is if they were a no show!!!!
Sign with NIKE, hire Cal's entire staff, and start finding a huge rap star for next years Late Night Immediately!!! Do SOMETHING to land more top players than Cal or continue to lose to UK for the rest of your tenure HCBS!!!
This really drives home the OAD point home. Recruiting 4 year players is not an option if UK continues to recruit the way it has been doing for the past 5 years... Top 100 recruits want pt and transfer before they have a chance for a coach to develop them and top 25 recruits can win championships together with the right amount of motivation. UK will set a record this year with the most players from one team to get drafted and Cal will bring in another HUGE class. We are going to play 2nd fiddle again next year unless Self and company can out recruit Cal RIGHT NOW!!! Promise PT and over recruit NOW or let UK continue their dominance for however long Cal is there and probably beyond!
@jaybate-1.0 More people need to join in the fun. I would have said something sooner but I am at work and I was busy as hell for the last couple hours. Maybe HCBS can do another most interesting man in the world skit for tonight. It could say something like "I don't always eat sea food but when I do I eat pieces of Calipari for dinner" pun intended!
@jaybate-1.0 You forgot to include that Coach Self will hold a seminar on X's and O's. He will also school Cal on how to make plays out of time outs and how to close in the last 2 minutes! No malice lol...
@JayHawkFanToo "Too many, too quick against less than top competition so far". I don't know that they are sub par competition considering they returned 4 starters from a team the won 20+ games last year. USBC could make the dance this year? We could have faced a Presbyterian team that only won 6 games last year and blown them out like Duke did last night... We already had 2 exhibition games for that lol.
I think that there are some good things to take away from last night! The most impressive stat line was Ellis who had a Double Double! The commentators said he increased his vertical by 14"!!! That's just absurd to think about! Alexander only played 12 minutes and had he been allowed to play for 29 like Traylor he would have had a game like Alan Williams had last night!!! Our pg play which I remember everyone being concerned about was one of the highlights of the game! Add in that our 3rd option at the wing is Oubre and that's not a bad dilemma to have! Its all good people. Play was sloppy and chemistry wasn't really there but that should all be tightened up by conference play and I believe that Alexander, and Ellis will be one of the best starting front courts in the country come early next year. One of our wings will start to separate from the pack and our pg play exceeds last years already in my opinion. Tuesday cant some soon enough for me because I think we will hand UK its first loss.
IF Self can play small ball we are surely a Final 4 team. IF HCBS try's to play Self ball with no 7 footers or real height then I'm no so sure? I suppose we will see glimpses of how he is going to play in March next Tuesday? I don't think anyone including HCBS feels comfortable going into Tuesday but at least we will see what our team is made of? On paper I think our presumed starting 5 are as talented as anyone in the country. Our bench is second to only UK (on paper) and since you can only play 5 at a time I think we have a shot!
@JRyman I only see 3 recruits on the ESPN recruiting board? the #1 pg, #5 center, and #12 sg by position in the country.
I hope for more than an elite 8 run but its all good! Next year will be really good also! UK just landed 2 guys in the ESPN top 20 which HCBS was not recruiting... I was glad to see that because it may push the ones we are recruiting our direction if they were a UK lean! Next year could be really special if we land 3-4 top 20 guys and return most of our roster!
@KUSTEVE NP

It happens some times. Our guys looked pretty raw at times in both of their preseason games.
@jaybate-1.0 It just said he was uncomfortable. He never said he didn't do it lol. Man up Roy and make a statement that there is no truth to any of this just like when President Clinton said "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". Then we can put this to rest!!!

url)This is not the best video quality but if you watch it you can smell the toughness and chemistry these guys displayed on the court every night (minus the TCU game I believe). Its the reason we have all grown to love watching KU basketball! Before last year KU was a well oiled machine with tuns of ally oops and highlight dunks. It was streamlined and sexy like a foreign super car with 1000 hp. KU or HCBS dominated opposing teams, controlled tempo, and executed plays out of timeouts. This is the era HEM dwells on and this is what most of you have grown to love.
Many posters on this board talk about how they would rather have a national championship vs the 10 BIG 12 titles. Many of you talk about the OAD era and your likes and dislikes pertaining to the OAD's. How you like to see player development. How you like to get to know players over time vs a one year stint before going pro. I understand every ones arguments. However those days have come and gone and a new era is taking shape at our beloved basketball program.
The OAD era has arrived and not a second too soon! UK has beet us to it and boarded the OAD train a few years before HCBS and has been to the FINAL FOUR three out of the last four years and the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game twice with records like 29-9, 38-2, 21-12, and last years 29-11. I would settle for some ugly play, early losses, poor records, and many more OAD's if HCBS can keep us in the running for 3 out of the next 4 years.
I say "if you cant beat em join em"... No one has had the recent tournament success UK has had and everyone says they got lucky last year. I think if Noel didn't get hurt they could have made it there again. I think its taking the entire season to prepare these youngsters for the big dance. Imagine if JoJo was healthy last year? Many experts predicted KU making it to the Elite 8 if Embid was healthy and that's only one win away from where HCBS is taking our program. Why wouldn't you want to land guys that only take 6 months to develop vs 3-4 years? I really like where HCBS and the OAD train is taking us and I cant wait until next years OAD's start signing. Time to get excited about recruiting success and stop bragging about BIG 12 titles, best coaching record, and everything else that takes a back seat to tournament success! Fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride KU buckets. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
Do you think we are ready for UK in 10 days?
This is the start of the OAD era at KU fellas. When 2 top 50 hs recruits and a senior pg leave your program due to lack of PT it spells OAD all day! There are mutable reports out there now so I highly doubt its here say. Say by by to senior night and hello to the OAD era... So when are we going to start giving big 12 rings to rappers? We need a more youthful approach for late night to keep up with the Jones's over at UK.
