@FarmerJayhawk Any idea when KU is planning to announce the non-confernce portion of the basketball schedule? I know we know part of the schedule, but it'd be nice to know all of the non-conference schedule since it's almost July. For comparison, KU announced their non-confernce schedule for the 2023-2= season on June 5 last year.

@nuleafjhawk said in So, Kansas Reinstated the Border War (for the Chiefs):

@Texas-Hawk-10 Just so I'm 100% sure - you're not a huge fan of Bud Adams?

The man pulled the same shit that John Fisher pulled in Oakland with the A's. Adams devalued the franchise by gutting a Super Bowl contender and negotiated in bad faith with Houston for a new stadium a few years after Houston taxpayers spent a lot of money to renovate the Astrodome (that was finally paid off in 2014, 15 years after the Astrodome quit hosting pro sports). The negotiations were so bad that the city of Houston never even put it to a vote, that's how bad the deal Adams was pushing was for Houston because he already had the Nashville deal worked out.

I have no skin in the game, but do know the feeling of losing an NFL team due to a city refusing to bend the knee to a billionaire owner that didn't want to pay for his own stadium. I don't give a shit that Bud Adams was a Jayhawk, fuck him and I hope he's rotting in he'll for what he pulled with the Oilers here in Houston.

With the recent player ratings of team facilities and such that recently came out, we all found out how much of a cheapskate Clark Hunt really is. I'd say if he wants a new stadium, either pay up to renovate Arrowhead or buy land out by Legends and build a new stadium himself with his own money. Taxpayers in the KC metro area, regardless of which county and side of the border they are on, should not give Clark Hunt one cent of public funding for a stadium or renovations.

If these stadiums provided the ROI claimed to swindle the public to vote for them, then the owners of these teams would have zero issues building and paying for everything themselves because they would make a nice profit from those deals. Since owners don't do that, that should be a big red flag to people that these kinds of deals aren't money makers.

It's getting closer to the 2024 edition of the The Basketball Tournament (TBT). Mass St. will once again be competing and already have their first players committed this year in Frank Mason and T-Rob.

One the biggest issues the KU alumni team had last year was a lack of point guard play which should be taken care of with Mason in the mix this season.

Another Jayhawk wins an NBA Championship • Jun 18, 2024 02:53 PM

Last night, the Boston Celtics destroyed the Dallas Mavericks in game 5 of the NBA Finals win their record 18th NBA championship.

Svi Mykhailiuk was a reserve player for Biston this season who played in 3 games during tge finals playing a total of 14 minutes scoring 5 points and getting 2 rebounds in his 3 appearances.

This is the 3rd straight season and 4th time in the last 5 seasons that a Jayhawk has won an NBA title. Svi also becomes the 16th Jayhawk to win an NBA title and 2nd Ukrainian born player to win a title.

68 Ventures Big12 would be confusing.

If it's going to end up being a corporate sponsorship deal, Allstate sounds like the most likely sponsor. Considering their long history with college football, that seems like about as food a sponsor as the Big 12 could hope for.

As goofy as this all sounds, I will always give Yormark credit for being proactive in trying to keep the B12 viable. If Bowlsby was still in charge, the B12 likely would've been picked apart by the ACC and Pac 12 after Texas and OU left for the SEC.

Yormark is doing whatever he can to help keep the B12 going and deserves all the credit in the world for the job he's done so far in solidifying the B12 as the number 3 conference which is not where anyone though we'd be as a league 5 years ago.

2025 recruits - - -starting off well • Jun 12, 2024 08:48 PM

Flory is going to be a strong rebounder and possibly a strong rim protector from day 1. His offensive game leaves a lot to be desired so him playing back up minutes to Hunter is a good role for Flory this year to maximize his strengths and hide his current weaknesses.

@dylans I'm honestly burned out on college sports right now. I hope that changes. But at this moment, tickets would about HAVE to be free before I'd consider going. I hope the football team will give me hope this year - they sure did last season.

If Jalon Daniels stays healthy, there's a pretty good chance KU could have a very special season this year. ESPN's FPI actually likes KU to win the B12 and has the 9th best odds of any team to run the table during the regular season. A big part of that is that KU is projected to have one of the weakest schedules in the country. Based on the FPI, KU is projected to only play 2 teams expected to finish in the top half of the Big 12.

Things are being set up very favorably for KU football this upcoming season.

Self had his chance to go the NBA 10 years ago and turned it down. Don't forget that Cleveland did offer Self $10 million per year in 2014 when LeBron returned home.

@Crimsonorblue22 said in Keeping track of the ever changing 24-25 roster:

@Texas-Hawk-10 u don't think passmore will be in the rotation? Or as spellcheck keeps putting password.

We know Self loves his 8 man rotations, so who does Passmore beat out for those minutes? Griffen and Storr are both likely starting. Moore, even though he was brought in to back up Harris, will see plenty of time at the 2 because of his defense. That means that Passmore is essentially battling Zeke Mayo for those minutes and I don't see Passmore beating out Mayo at this time.

I think Passmore will be a much bigger factor in the 2025-26 rotation as the main wing back up and possible starter if Storr or Griffen leave.

KU will have plenty of room for minutes in 2025-26 as KU is for sure losing Adams, Dickinson, Harris, Mayo, and Moore to eligibility after this season.

@rockchalkjayhawk KU's at least two deep at every spot with most rotation guys able to play multiple spots.

Harris and Dickinson are probably the only two really locked into one spot on the floor and maybe Flory.

Mayo, McDowell, and Moore can all play the 1 and 2 spots. Mayo and McDowell should primarily be at the 2 when they're in and Moore primarily at the 1, but Self could play those 3 at either spot if needed.

Griffen and Passmore can play the 2 or 3 spots.

Storr could play the 2-4 spots depending on what Self wants to run.

KJ and Clemence can play either front court spot if needed and I'm sure Self will experiment with Flory at the 4 in practice to see if he's playable there, but I doubt his offense is good enough for that at this time.

Starting line up and 8 man rotation is likely to be Harris, Griffen, Storr, Adams, and Dickinson starting with Moore, Mayo subbing in the back court, and either Bidunga/Clemence in the front court off the bench. We probably won't see both Griffen and Storr off the floor at the same time very often.

A Lot. like a friend of mine was just here at the house , and said Hurley would be a fool to take the Laker job - -WHY ? - -LEBRON. LEBRON runs that Orginization -Hurley takes that job he will be out of a job in two three years- -it's not worth it.

Hurley’s goal is the NBA. It can be very difficult for college coaches with that ambition to even get their foot in the door. This gets Hurley an NBA job and even if he doesn't win, other teams will hire him because the NBA loves to recycle coaches more than giving new guys an opportunity.

LeBron isn't the biggest issue the Lakers have because it's not even a guarantee LeBron will be a Laker next season as he can opt into free agency. Rob Pelinka is the biggest issue the Lakers have because he is not a good GM.

Hurley • Jun 06, 2024 03:55 PM

Hurley’s goals and ambition has always been the NBA. LeBron seems to like and approve of Hurley and the Lakers are also having Anthony Davis involved in this process as well to see how he feels. This feels like a Billy Donavan type situation where Hurley really doesn't have anything left to prove at the college level and this is a relatively good situation for Hurley to walk into at the NBA level.

2024 Coaching Carousel • Jun 06, 2024 11:50 AM

Lakers are targeting Dan Hurley as their next coach and the two sides are going to be meeting to discuss how their visions for the Lakers would look. Hurley has always wanted to coach in the NBA and it sounds like there's a strong chance the Lakers hire him.

Shak Moore come on down.

Probably the best PG available at this point and should be able to fill a back up PG role, but does he want to be a back up or is he waiting for a starting job somewhere?

I'm guessing KK Robinson from UALR would be another name KU tries to make contact with now and see if there's any interest for him to return to the P5.

The market for PG's isn't great right now.

The two biggest factors for KU this season will be AJ Storr and Zeke Mayo. Is Storr going to be as selfish a player as he was last season? And, can Zeke Mayo play well enough to where Self can play a lot of 4 out offense?

If Storr plays selfishly and/or Mayo plays like Timberlake on offense, then KU's offense isn't very scary because there's not much outside shooting like last season and teams will pack the paint to stop Storr from driving amd automatically doubling Dickinson.

You could be right but what do they gain from that? Some form of masturbatory high-five from their own conference?

They've been a huge culprit in destroying college basketball by making it a conference race to the bottom. Basketball is only watchable when it's competitive... and that takes having multiple competitive conferences.

They want more power which means more money, simple as that. KU needs to do whatever it takes to be part of that party whether it's the SEC or Big 10.

@approxinfinity said in Big-12 going to 20 game league schedule:

Who are we playing twice? Does it change every year?

20 game schedule should mean we play 5 teams home and away. I would split the conference into 4 geographic pods with the Arizona and Utah schools together, the Texas schools together, KU, KSU, Colorado, and OSU together and ISU, Cincy, WVU, and UCF together. That would take care of 3 home and away games and then the other 2 would be based on conference standings from the previous season. Not perfect obviously, but probably a good place to start when determining who plays who for home and away games.

For Kansas, that could look like home and away games with CU, KSU, OSU based in geographic proximity, and home and away games with TCU and BYU or Utah based on how those teams finished in the Big 12/Pac 12 last season.

At least that's how I would determine the home and away match us annually.

That's not how baseball's system works though. In baseball, once you sign a professional baseball contract, you are no longer eligible to play college baseball anywhere anymore. You can be drafted and choose not to sign a contract and then still play college baseball, but once a player signs with an MLB club, they are no longer eligible to play college baseball.

@Texas-Hawk-10 agreed thats what g-league is for,
but it seems that NIL has shifted the balance, with g league ignite going away. Would seem that a high profile college program with a difficult schedule offers several advantages that may work better for some, including not getting your ass kicked by grown ass men with a chip before your body fills out

A player in the G-League on an NBA or Two-Way contract is making more than NIL. The Ignite team was essentially a select team that was invite only for a handful of top HS kids that could legally go to the NBA. Contracts for those players worked differently than the rest of the league as Ignite players made significantly less than the rest of the G-League and less than NIL. Their salary range was between $50-$150k. The quality of players they could land had significantly dropped in the last couple of years because of NIL.

Also, because NBA franchises, except for Phoenix, operate their own G-League franchises, the players are developed how that franchise wants them developed because it's their own coaches and staff doing the developing. The G-League is also primarily made up of younger players under 25 so Furphy wouldn't usually be going against "full grown men" on a daily basis, he'd be going against players under the age of 25 for the most part.

I'd love to Furphy come back next year, but at the end of the day, his and pretty all basketball players dream of the NBA, not college basketball. At this point, the G-League is a better option for long term development than college is for players.

That's literally what the G-League is for, to stash and develop players who aren't quite NBA ready. A lot of people here need to get past their outdated views and stereotypes of what the G-League is. Literally over half the NBA right now has spent time in the G-League including many first round picks. Furphy will be better prepared for the NBA playing and developing in the G-League than he will at Kansas.

@BShark The question is whether to get instant gratification or have a long NBA career. Real money is made in 2nd/3rd contract.

He can get picked in mid to late first round, but he will most likely be warming the bench or playing in G league.

After a few months he may be traded and move around before disappearing.

His parents seem to be doing well in the sense that he does not need money right away to support them, so even without NIL he can wait to get real money and get drafted much higher and have a longer NBA career.

Over half the league has played in the G-League at some point and that number will keep going up as the old guard keeps retiring. Furphy being drafted later in the 1st round means he is very likely going to championship contending team. With all but 1 franchise having their own direct G-League affiliate (Phoenix is that 1 team that doesn't), that means those coaches down there are developing players in line with what the NBA coaches vision is and Furphy would get relevant minutes against very good players in what is probably the second best basketball league in the world.

They must have something on Self and a cheerleader.

Other topics here have indicated the light may have come on for Clemence finally both on and off the court. Elmarko was basically told by KJ's family to nut up or shut up and he chose to nut up amd earn it. Jamari I'm genuinely surprised by unless the plan is to keep him off the ball. Also, I'm sure KU's NIL package played no small part in Elmarko and Jamari's decisions as well as KU is typically near top of college basketball for NIL deals.

D2 can’t guard his man one on one but he’s an A team defense guy. KJ is a stud defender in the post and one on one but can’t rebound worth crap (go hang out with Barkley this off-season).

AJ storr is a legit athlete and one I think Bill can teach to defend same for Griffen. Your analyzing these guys defensively on other teams and building up how great Bill is defensively but then claiming how bad this team will be (as if Bill won’t idk maybe be better than their previous coaches on D).

Bill won’t ever change he guards inside out first and plays inside out on O. That’s who he is and he ain’t changing that anytime soon.

Well, you clearly know nothing of my history on this site with KJ Adams if that's what you think I believe about him. FYI, people here got as sick of me calling KJ the worst rebounding big ever as they are of your Dejuan shit. KJ can spend the whole offseason with Barkley and he's still going to be the worst rebounder ever because he has short arms.

I'm also not building up Self as the greatest defensive coach ever either, despite what you think. I said plenty of times last season that the defense sucked ass, especially after McCullar got hurt, and I'm gonna keep saying the defense is gonna be worse next season because Self brought in 4 transfers, if they all come here, who have never played any defense in their lives, or just flat out suck at defense because they're not good athletes.

The worst defensive team of the Self era statistically is the 2018 Final Four team, this team is getting ready to make that team look like the 2008 team on defense.

So guess what, you're gonna as sick of me saying the defense next season is going to be a steaming pile of shit as everyone else is of your Harris takes.

@kuballin10 said in Keeping track of the ever changing 24-25 roster:

I’ll tell u this we have a better chance of getting to the sweet 16 with this years upcoming roster versus the crap we rolled out there last year (that’s including a healthy Kev).

No fucking shit it takes a good offense AND defense to when a title. Your head is so far up Dan Hurley’s ass right now about his offense that you're ignoring Self over-correcting last year's issues to bring in a bunch of transfers that can't play defense.

You claim Self can make someone like AJ Storr a better defensive player, but still shit all over Harris and Adams defensive abilities when they've been in the system for 4 years now. So based on your own logic, it sounds like Self sucks at developing defensive players, but yet you think he's going to make 3/4 guys who are coming to KU as terrible defenders and suddenly make them play good defense? That logic isn't logicing there on that one.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what round KU loses in because people will continue to whine about another preseason top 5 KU team not winning a title or reaching the Final Four and you'll continue making the same lazy ass posts about Dejuan and KJ all season because there's three things you live for. One is shitting on Dejuan, two is sitting on KJ, and three is worshipping the ground Dan Hurley walks on.

Comparing Wiggins to Furphy is dumb because each came in with a different level of hype and expectations of what to expect from their freshmen seasons. Both played their roles well. Yes, I do think another early flame out next season is more likely than a deep run in the tournament because I believe this defense next season is going to be the worst ranked defense of the Bill Self era which is currently the 2018 team that was 47th in adjusted defensive efficiency.

Since KenPom began in 2002, the teams with a sub 50 adjusted defensive efficiency to reach the Final Four are Marquette in 2003 (109), VCU in 2011 (78), Miami in 2023 (99), and Alabama in 2024 (111). Meanwhile, teams ranked sub 50 in offensive efficiency are LSU (62) and George Mason (66) in 2006, Louisville (112) in 2012, Syracuse (50) in 2016, South Carolina (91) in 2017, Loyola-Chicago (63) in 2018, San Diego St. (75).

So again, I stand by my statement that a team has a better chance to make a deep/Final Four run with a subpar offense than subpar defense because that's what history tells us.
