I just can't believe he didn't know, and we never should have paid him. LSU should be in big trouble. I told u they found this out while they were investigating them. That age group of men had no filters. Most got by with that 💩 back then.

Miles lawyer claimed Long knew and I do believe him more than Long. Long was AD at Arkansas when all that went down and just getting over the Bobby Petrino scandal so I just find it hard to believe Joe Alleva didn't reach out to Long about how Arkansas handled that scandal.

Long Out • Mar 11, 2021 12:07 AM

Thank god Long is gone. He was a terrible hire at the time and didn't do much to benefit KU while here. I said when he was hired why would you hire a guy who got ran out of his previous job for pissing off the donors? And history just repeated itself because of Long's weak ass justification and defense of his actions.

As for the football coaching search, I would name an interim for 2021 and let the new AD get settled into the job and see what he has to work with and let him/her have final say. DeBorg has head coaching experience so he seems as good a choice as any on the staff for the role of interim head coach. After 2021 is when I would begin looking for a full time replacement if needed. The timing right now with spring practice getting ready to start doesn't make sense to hire an outside guy as head coach right now. Not only would it be near impossible to get any kind of quality staff put together at this stage, but it would also set the players back as well why they try to learn a new system on the fly. With DeBorg, the players have already started learning his play book and terminology.

Les Miles • Mar 09, 2021 07:51 PM

Does Jeff Long survive this situation? 2 of his last 3 football hires have been fired for non football related issues. I don't trust Jeff Long's judgement and evaluation skills given his track record.

NCAA Tournament - Automatic Bids • Mar 09, 2021 05:03 AM

4 of the 5 title games for tomorrow are set. Only that isn't is the WCC title game with BYU and Pepperdine getting ready to tip, but it probably doesn't matter since the winner gets Gonzaga.

Colonial: Elon (8) vs. Drexel (6)

Horizon: Oakland (5) vs. Cleveland St. (2)

NEC: Mount St. Mary's (4) vs. Bryant (2)

Summit: Oral Roberts (4) vs. North Dakota St. (3)

WCC: BYU/Pepperdine vs. Gonzaga (1)

NCAA Tournament - Automatic Bids • Mar 09, 2021 03:33 AM

App St. and UNCG have each clinched a tournament bid by winning their respective conference tournaments tonight.

5 more bids are on the line tomorrow with the Colonial, Horizon, NEC, Summit, and West Coast title games.

Big-12 Tourney • Mar 08, 2021 09:50 PM

@jayballer67 A big part of KU's issues in seeding is that KU is only 1-7 in games against at large caliber teams away from AFH and that win came back in December against Tech.

If KU can beat OU and then Texas/Tech in KC and reach the title game, then we can start talking about moving KU up to a 3 seed.

NCAA Tournament - Automatic Bids • Mar 08, 2021 07:31 PM

@BeddieKU23 Most of the projections I'm seeing now have Drake in a First Four game which doesn't bode too well for their chances considering a lot of the other bubble teams around them still have their conference tournament to play and improve their odds. Drake could very well be on the outside looking in after the final game next Sunday.

NCAA Tournament - Automatic Bids • Mar 07, 2021 09:35 PM

Drake losing the Missouri Valley title game to Loyola Chicago could potentially knock the Bulldogs out of the tournament because of the weak SOS. Winthrop winning the Big South was big all of the bubble teams as Winthrop would've been in that discussion had they not won their conference tournament title game today.

NCAA Tournament - Automatic Bids • Mar 07, 2021 09:30 PM

SoCon and Sun Belt title games will be tomorrow night. 5 more bids will go out on Tuesday night. 15 bids will go out next Saturday and the last 5 automatic bids will go out on Selection Sunday.

Without the Ivy League playing this year, that means there are only 31 automatic bids this year with 37 at large bids so the bubble is expanded by 1 team this season.

NCAA Tournament - Automatic Bids • Mar 07, 2021 09:18 PM

I will try and keep up with the 31 automatic bids from each conference this week.

If this case was supposedly settled and a non-disclosure was signed, how did any of this get leaked? Are those parties culpable too? It's times like this I wish I had a more robust knowledge of tort law and law in general so I could better anticipate the fallout.

Still not sure why the media is picking a fight with KU at the moment. Seems like we are the proverbial victim in this scenario. I guess LSU is college football royalty so the powers that be will mercilessly cudgel the court jester. God help us if this drags out indefinitely as the basketball situation seems to be doing. What a mess.

The media is ripping KU because KU didn't immediately fire Miles once the investigation became public because the stuff he's accused of is one of the hot button social issues the media is all over right now.

From what I can tell, KU is handling this exactly the way they should be at this point of doing their own due diligence and investigating everything to determine what action KU wants to take and what KU can legally take right now.

@COHawk said in Les Miles:

Better have Tom Herman named HC within a day or two.

Hell no I don't want Tom Herman here. He couldn't get Texas back to competing with OU annually with the resources he had at Texas, but it'd be realistic to think he could make Kansas competitive when he'd have basically no resources here? Herman is also a job hopper. His 4 year stint at Texas was the longest he'd been at any job in his career so if he did manage any success at Kansas, he'd be gone the next season KU would be back in rebuild mode.

KU needs to go get someone who built a winner at a smaller conference and doesn't jump at the first better offer he receives. Go look at Coastal's coach since they've beaten us twice now, Appalachian St., Louisiana, Toledo, San Jose St. These are the types of places KU needs to be looking at for a head coach and not a P5 retread.

Les Miles • Mar 07, 2021 06:12 AM

We for sure have somebody publicly and knowingly lying about this investigation. The lawyer for Miles is claiming that KU officials and Jeff Long were aware of the 2013 investigation at the time Les was hired. Jeff Long is claiming last week was the first the KU was made aware of the investigation.

That means somebody is publicly lying to us about who knew what and when they knew it. After the Beaty debacle, KU is in a no won situation right in regards to how to handle this investigation from a PR standpoint.

If KU had immediately fired Miles and then investigated and found nothing to fire Miles with cause for, it's a repeat of Beaty except a lot more money on the line. Amd that's a likely outcome specifically for Miles because LSU determined there wasn't enough there to fire Miles with cause. Since KU put just Miles on leave, KU is already getting raked by national media for not instantly firing Miles on Friday when the reports were made public.

Too many people in power looking the other way because they don't want the skeletons in their closets being exposed as well or just not giving a damn. Probably the same reason Mickey Callaway got away with harassing women for years and the Indians not doing anything about it at the time.

So this did not get out at all? I find that hard to believe

Based on what I've seen, it sounds like once the matter at LSU was resolved, an NDA was signed so it's quite likely KU is trying to figure out where the limits of the NDA extend to. It also sounds like when all that stuff was going on before any settlements were reached, it was very well known what was going on with Les and that LSU AD Joe Alleva tried firing Miles in 2013 over these allegations. It's also likely KU is trying to find out how aware of that situation Jeff Long was since he was AD at Arkansas at the time. The reason Long may have had knowledge of the accusations was because the Bobby Petrino situation was about a year before the Miles stuff so Alleva may have potentially talked to Long about how they handled the situation at Arkansas.

There's some speculation on my part at the end there, but AD's talk a lot so it's entirely plausible that Alleva asked Long for advice and which could mean Long had knowledge of the accusations when he hired Miles here.

Regardless of the outcome of KU's own investigation, this is going to be another shit storm of bad PR for KU Athletics.

Another reasoned reply to my knee-jerk, naive fan’s subterfuge. I guess I’ve just had it with this miserable football team. I would be happy with a terrible team. What we have suffered over the past decade is undefinable, inexplicable and indefensible.

My question is: does KU have legal remedy against LSU? If they covered this up and these incidences could not be found during the vetting process and it ends up costing us recruits, fans, money and wins can all that be quantified into a lawsuit? Clearly we are going to be hurt through another organization’s negligence. Do we have recourse here?

That's likely why Miles is on administrative leave right now so KU can do their own investigation into this situation to determine what their options are in regards to both Miles and Jeff Long.

This is basically a repeat of what happened to Long at Arkansas and something like this happening is why I've never been a big Jeff Long fan and thought it was a bad hire when it happened, and it's turning out to be a bad hire now. The only silver lining might be if KU end up firing both with cause and saving a few million dollars.

So help me out here cause I seriously don't know how this works. - So if they could fire them with cause KU wouldn't have to pay them their money ? - -that would be a just fit. - this whole thing is just a Baad look for the University

Yes, if KU fires Les Miles with cause, that means it would be determined that Miles violated the terms of his contract and KU would be under no obligation to pay the remainder of his salary.

That issue was at heart of the Beaty lawsuit. KU was trying to prove Beaty knowingly violated his contract so his termination would have been with cause instead of not winning enough so KU wouldn't have to pay out the $3 million left on his deal.

I agree it's discouraging. We have now, somehow, scraped below the bottom of the barrel with our football team. On the bright side, so what if there is a mass exodus? We won exactly ZERO games last year. ZERO! In the past decade we have won 18 games. IN TEN YEARS. That's an average of less than 2 wins per year for the past 10. So, really, who gives rat's behind about any of this? Scrap it all and start from the beginning. It honestly cannot get worse.

The fact that this program cannot recruit kids that look like they've even played the game before is simply unfathomable to me. Replace everybody and I would wager we can find kids who can win more than 1.8 games per year over the next 10.

A mass exodus of players means we're back in a scholarship situation situation similar to what Weis created and Beauty inherited. Without a mass exodus, KU's scholarship numbers will finally be in line with other FBS programs. A mass exodus screws up not only the total scholarship situation, but the class balance as well which is why it's taken so long to recover from what Weis did to KU. At this point, I'm convinced Mangino sold KU's soul in football to try and save his job in 2007.

@jayballer67 It's a 3 team race for that last 1 seed to me between Ohio St., Illinois, and West Virginia. Iowa would have to run the table and win the B10 Tournament at this point to overcome getting swept by Indiana and losing to Illinois. Alabama and Villanova don't have the quality wins or strength of conference to take the losses they did last week.

I still have Ohio St. as a 1 seed because they have the head to head over Illinois right now. West Virginia played TCU and KSU last week so they don't get a bump for those wins yet. West Virginia has to beat Baylor tomorrow otherwise they won't be able to get to a 1 seed and Illinois needs to beat Ohio St. on Saturday to have a chance regardless of what they do against Michigan tomorrow night since they may not have Dosunmu for that one.

Return of the Red Jersey's Game Chat • Mar 01, 2021 02:47 AM

@KirkIsMyHinrich Why does Illinois deserve to ahead of OSU at this point? They have very similar resumes, but Ohio St. has the head to head win at this point and that game was at Illinois.

If Illinois goes 2-0 this week which means winning in Ann Arbor and Columbus, then they have definitely have a very strong case for a 1 seed, but that head to head loss to Ohio St. still puts OSU over Illinois to me.

Return of the Red Jersey's Game Chat • Feb 28, 2021 11:46 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich said in Return of the Red Jersey's Game Chat:

Don't think Ohio St is going to stay a 1-seed after losing 3 in a row and being blown out by Iowa today. There will be a lot of make-up games this week and seeds are going to move around. If Kansas takes care of UTEP and wins at least 1 game in the B12 tournament I think they'll be a 3-seed. Winning one game in the B12 tournament probably won't be easy though (if the tournament started today our first game would be against Texas). Long shot at a 2-seed if we win out and the teams ahead of us lose.

Who replaces Ohio St. on the 1 line though? Illinois took a bad loss last week, Alabama got blown out, Oklahoma took 2 bad losses, Villanova took a bad loss, Iowa got blown out this week, WVU doesn't have the resume to move to a 1 seed.

I don't know if OSU drops from the 1 line yet because of what's happening everyone else behind them this week.

Gonzaga, Michigan, Houston, Arkansas, and Loyola-Chicago, are the only top 25 teams that didn't lose a game this week.

Return of the Red Jersey's Game Chat • Feb 28, 2021 09:09 PM

I'm still not convinced KU won't flame out in the NCAA Tournament. Yesterday doesn't change that KU is 1-7 away from AFH against at-large teams this season. KU's offense is going to have to show something in KC during the B12 Tournament to show they can play a complete game against a quality opponent outside of AFH. That one road win was a game against an equally inept offensive team in Texas Tech where KU only scored 58 points for the game.

Can KU play a complete game against a quality team in KC? At this point, they haven't shown that ability to do so which doesn't bode well for the NCAA Tournament.
