Originally I was calling for 40 points combined from Hunter and Kevin plus 20 points combined from KJ and Juan and with 15 points combined from the two guard and bench we would win about every game. Now we need 25 from KJ and Juan to win. With Hunter and Kev baby currently being Self's top scoring duo ever we are actually lucky to just need 35 combined from KJ, Juan and the great unwashed. Furphy has already shown he will be aggressive in getting and taking his shots. Of course it will be a pick up the slack if one of the above has an off night. Yup.

Well the BPI shows our final conference record 9 wins and 8 losses. 2.6% chance of winning the conference. Whew, the pressure is off thank goodness and we can play loose and chuck up treys like carpet bombing.
We have 8 conference members in the top 25. Houston and Iowa State are looking like a real problem. If someone can go through this with just three losses it would be amazing. If we lose one you can reasonably be assured of other top teams getting beat at at least the same rate. If we can avoid the dreaded under 30 point 1st halves we will win our share of low or high scoring games. The Furph will probably astonish us a few times but as rookies go it will be inconsistent.
Any problems with Kevin's knee? Seemed to linger the rest of the game. We were playing keep on keeping on all of the first half and OU stayed right with us. At that point I thought they were a very good team.

I think there was a belief that Elmarko would be able to defend the #2 position better than others but was not getting noticeably better so enter the Furph who almost certainly brings more scoring. One question is will the Furph guard the on the wing or out front? I guess it will depend on the lineup both ours and theirs. Should be fun and more interesting I think. I hope we explode and Elmarko plays well for Juan.
I have mentioned my nephew who just played his last year in the FCS and his team won as repeat national champions. He may very well be in the NFL next year or be an undrafted free agent. First team AA and an even better young man.

At the end of our last game the king of 3P's had a decent chance to win that game. That would have been lucky for them?
In the 2022 championship game the Tar Heels missed their last four shots including the desperation three to tie it at the buzzer. Was that lucky for us? We overcame the largest deficit in final history by outscoring them 47-29 in the second half. I think that their being a #8 seed team punching above their weight finally caught up with them. It was a nice but unlikely run for them. Bill was a fist pumping happy man at the buzzer.
NC is #1 in the number of snake bites in the US and may feel they got snake bitten at the half.
Elmarko is seven letters Elm is three = 10 divided by 2 = 5 and becomes Elmar kinda as in Fudd . Elmar for 3!! not much of a ring to it. So it's Marko or Marky or Mark or Elm or E.lo like J.lo.
Johnny or Furphy and 6 letters is too many that goes without saying. There's only one that really works and that is Jofur which is Nordic, and I think also Australian, for Thunder God.

I'm happy that Kevin is shooting and making his free throws with 78 made at a very nice 83.9% rate. This is 50 more makes than Hunter or KJ. Since Kevin came back to raise his draft stock, I guess, one thing the NBA tracks and values is percentage of finishes at the rim and it seems to me Kevin has an opportunity to get more "and ones" than he is getting now. No one is tougher than Kevin and he sacrifices himself every game but if he would complete say for comparisons sake two more at the rim makes and hit the free throw that adds two more points and would up his conference leading scoring average to 22.1 and get him even closer to first team AA status.

From what has happened so far if we play well we are better than anyone. If an opponent is pulling shots out of their collective anus someone needs to exceed their normal output by being an a**hole for our side too. We can shut most teams down but we seem to have about a 4 minute (around 18 pts) scoring lull in each half which causes the famous "we are up by nine but should be up by twenty" posts. Our loss was when we couldn't handle Marquette's pressure. I can see us being 20 and 1 because of our experienced leaders and then the conference games get very heated.
That's a coach who didn't believe in wishful thinking who saw things as they really are and coached accordingly.
I finally watched all the game on replay. We sure do have a top notch 4 starters and we might just have seen that we now have a solid five and what a difference Elmarko made. 86 points is great with little help the bench which was 5/20 from the field including 1/14 from three. This team is damn good but not a title contender yet with such a low performing bench, except for Parker who gives us that athletic big to offset the seemingly unending supply we seem to face.
