They are giving it to us with their shooting might as well take it.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 07:31 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

ESPN owns SEC Network I believe.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 07:26 PM

I think it was pretty good defense but poor shooting on uncontested shots. We are working really hard on offense but can't finish.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 07:11 PM

I don't mind this type of games if it is well played but it's not.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 06:56 PM

Cincy challenging us with man to man defense.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 06:47 PM

I guess the get KJ going has been scrapped. We need to amp up the defense.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 06:33 PM

ISU is on the road a -2.5 against TTU. KU 68-64.

WKRP in Cincinnatti • Jan 11, 2025 06:10 PM

Cincy has only two opponents score in the 70's one 72 and one 70. If we are prepared to defend like crazy and maybe have a 40 point half it should be good.

Favorite All Time Players • Jan 11, 2025 03:43 PM

@ImmunoHawk

I can't remember which rookie drove the lane and scored and Wilt told him the next time you try that I will make you pay. I think it was Walt Frazier and he went in and Wilt laid him out. I didn't do that anymore.

Vital five game stretch • Jan 11, 2025 02:52 AM

We won our let down game with 2nd half defense and energy. Cincy has lost three straight all in conference and their season is teetering and could fall off the cliff with another loss or grab a life line with a win over a surging ranked Jayhawk squad. We should want it more than they do and need it more and to show our players they are legit in the here and now. This is a road game with a probably loud crowd and playing a stingy defense minded team and we don't want a slow start from our shooters to play into Cincy's plan. We have won 4 out of 5 and should make it 5 out of 6 going into the unfriendly confines of Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday. We need this one first and put the fear in Georges Niang, Jeff's Grayer and Hornacek and the Mayor Fred what's his face (Hoiberg). I really don't know which one I dislike the most. Not to forget Marcus Fizer I don't like him either.

Arizona St • Jan 09, 2025 05:35 PM

AJ start physical guarding and boarding. You have the gifts and then get in on the fun. Then go to your spot and ring the bell from three because you need it and the team needs it. Just a couple of makes opens up one side of the lane and gets us to a reliable 10 makes from deep to complement our defenses emergence. It's all about confidence sir.
Did the Sun Devils get only 13 in the second half?

Arizona St • Jan 09, 2025 06:03 AM

Bill said, no energy? Let's press and the defense we've seen for the last several games went boom. Shak Moore I can electric slam and I can thief. Rylan was having FUN! Hunt running out to contest three pointers and I'll have another double double. Yes Zeke can score. Flory eyes are on everything and oh here's an athletic slam from a Juan dime. KJ playing as hard as I can remember. We only really played one good half but look out B12 we can ball.

Arizona St • Jan 09, 2025 02:22 AM

No zip. Looks like a Hunter Mayo against their three ball shooters and board work.

Arizona St • Jan 09, 2025 02:01 AM

ASU playing harder at least on defense.

We have nine conference home games to go. Thinking about winning the conference title is okay but conference tourney seeding with a vaunted bye is more attainable. With so many new teams it remains to be seen if we find some new struggle arenas and I do remember dreading going to Boulder every year for instance. Very interested in how we play tonight.

The KU Sports paywall • Jan 08, 2025 10:50 PM

"“We know we dropped West Virginia, first game of conference, and we know we can’t let that happen in front of our fans, and we’re super ready to go,” Moore said."

I love this statement! Let's see if it's true!

Exactly what I wanted to hear and didn't know it until I heard it.

Arizona St • Jan 08, 2025 09:54 PM

Let us not forget the unselfish play from Zeke Mayo who can light it up and probably will in Allen tonight. I hope we don't lay a Tennessee egg. About playing time for KJ, Hunter and Flory as they all are foul prone it will be different game to game and as Rick Barnes said it can be overcome with elite guard play. AJ is on the verge of being in team elite along with Rylan and joining, Shak, Zeke and Juando. Is Zach still hurt?

Arizona St • Jan 08, 2025 09:34 PM

Tennessee is the only team this century to shoot 30% or worse on two pointers 15% or worse on three pointers and 60% or worse on free throws in a single game, (with a 25% minimum of attempts in each category). 12-56 from the field (21%) for the game. From beyond the arc they were even worse hitting 4-29 attempts (14%) and rounded it all out by shooting 16-25 from the free throw line (60%). (From OptaStats). The Vols came in undefeated ranked No. 1 in the nation. Rick Barnes didn't really brush it off in his post game comments, "We've been here before, believe me, we have been beat worse than this and will learn from it." According to Barnes, "Florida looked bigger, longer and more athletic in the front court but we could have overcome that with elite guard play."

Central Flaw rid unh-uh • Jan 08, 2025 04:53 PM

KU has the easiest remaining schedule in our conference. Predicted to finish 15 up 5 down. Nationally we have the 4th best defense.
Offense is rated 10th best among the KPOM leaders. ASU has two starting guards shooting 48% on 3PT so one of them will have a career high tonight. IF KU makes 10 treys we will score 80 pts and snatch the win. Will this be a let down game where we come out low energy well who knows. Would love to see a solid game with our Cinderella group of Storr, Griffen, Shak and Coit all trying to be the pretty sister.

Central Flaw rid unh-uh • Jan 06, 2025 05:57 PM

@BeddieKU23

To be able to finish at the rim 81%. Come on now, to do that you are finishing through contact which is usually a learning process for freshmen. To be already able to play at the level he does thank goodness. I can't define his level as it keeps going up.

Central Flaw rid unh-uh • Jan 06, 2025 05:16 PM

We saw today why we were picked #1 preseason which is this roster is loaded. I wasn't familiar with Shak, Griffen, Storr, Coit or Zeke. I kept hearing KU fans will love Flory because he can run the court and has a big motor. We can now add fast learner to that list. I saw that opponents played him very physically which I thought he resented and now doesn't work as a tactic. Not a lot of floor time for him but he picked up the defense quickly and true to his smarts played it to the max. As we've seen he takes ownership of mistakes and that's a big reason why he is so good. I mentioned before his presence on the floor especially defensively frees up the big dog to be in rebound position and make his top level outlet passes. Can we imagine him as a 14/10/4 guy? Shak played a sneaky good game and will be a huge difference maker as a ball handler, passer, scorer and all around speed demon. Will Storrs, who was projected to be our big guard perimeter defender who could even guard a 4 if needed and Griffen who has been in the big time take over and run with it now with penetration and bombs away? Juan may finally get the pieces we were hoping for and stir up a storm. Big time defender type teams like ISU and Houston can't shut us down when our guys are as good or better than theirs. But it was just one game. One 50 point beat down game. Which is more impressive/surprising our 99 or their 48?

Central Flaw rid unh-uh • Jan 05, 2025 10:42 PM

Griffen 4/4 from three and 2/2 from the line.

Central Flaw rid unh-uh • Jan 05, 2025 10:28 PM

Central Flaw rid unh-uh • Jan 05, 2025 07:59 PM

I don't have a clue about this game. 75-74 Jayhawks. I really want to say 60-59.

Central Flaw rid unh-uh • Jan 05, 2025 07:47 AM

WVU torched us during the first 10 min taking advantage of the switch up top and wide open dunks. When the opponents don't make the pass I'm thinking hey stupid he's wide open again. That cost us the game and our heroic run in the second half fizzled out on about four bad plays in a row after that.
My point is that we can defend until the cows come home or away but if we are bricking threes and missing shots in the lane to begin the game. It doesn't matter when we are averaging one point a minute.
Our new guards are not new to the game and sure as heck can shoot them as they did in the past.
And the KJ thing is not bashing him even though it feels like it is. Flory is our only hope as he limits second chance points and by God he frees up Hunter who can and score a lot. We want it we need it we feel it and something else I forget.
Sorry about the dangerous weather I hope everyone and your loved ones stay safe and warm.

West Virginia- a game finally • Jan 03, 2025 09:50 PM

What are the odds of KJ starting against UCF? 100% 200%.
We have a 7'2" center who can operate but he is being triple or quadrupled guarded or trapping with Juan beyond the three point line. That's with KJ on the floor. We saw what happened with Flory in the game. Everything changed for the better. No second chance opportunities, No triple teams. No effective penetrations. It made it possible to release the Kraken. There is no other player like Flory there just isn't. KJ is foul prone and so in Hunt but Hunt isn't foul prone with Flory with him on the floor. AJ and Rylan are butterflies at this point but Bill has to change and park one of his beloved guys. The status quo is a losing painful to watch season. What are the odds Bill will change about this? Zero or negative prime of a gross?

@rockchalkjayhawk said in West Virginia- a game finally:

Upon further review…there were two bright spots last night. Zeke and Flory.

Bidunga was great. (I’m ignoring that last second freshman mistake)

Love his energy and enthusiasm.

How Flory reacted to getting faked out was very telling. He pressed his lips together and walked away. No bull no poor me just acceptance.

I could question that call. Flory went straight up and the dude literally lunged under him from a long ass way away. An offensive foul move if I've ever seen one. Try that with Hunter or Charles Barkley and you could be on your way to the Medical Center. I wouldn't wish anything serious just a 48 hour observation and safely back to Morgantown which is known as a party town at the downtown strip. Sounds familiar somehow,

On our way to UCF and remembering we are two and three in our last five games. Need a win against a good offensive team.

West Virginia- a game finally • Jan 01, 2025 06:12 PM

I'm just not sure that KJ over Flory is a winner. We put KJ and Hunter and together and we get Hunter trying to scramble back from the top of the key to cover the easy layups. It's been a disaster and KJ and Flory together we get the same damn thing, And as opponents get so many easy shots they could get more. WVU could have been up by over 20 instead of 15 in the first half. Also we are last in the conference in giving up offensive rebounds. When we had Hunt and Flory together we owned the glass. Flory is a freak on defense. Did you watch him smother whomever was his man? He played belly button to belly button with athletic guards even better than KJ does. He showed us and them and the guards didn't know how to react to that 7'2" wingspan who is quicker than they are. We lost the game when he was pulled out and that's the truth. Hunter was able to play down low and get in position to rebound and when he gets that position he is in his element and he can be his bad ass self. We are wasting a guy who is a preseason first team AA selection. He gets the board and is as good as it gets making the outlet pass. Flory even showed a couple of nifty moves on offense. It looks like we are setting up Hunter for failure. KJ averages 9 pts on 55% shooting and Flory averages 6 pts on 82.9%. KJ averages 29.4 minutes per game to Flory's 12.6 minutes per game. Teams are making a joke of our defense and we are playing hard.

Juan on point, Zeke as the #2, a big guard ScorrGriftPassShak at the #3, LeFreak at the #4 and the Big Game Hunter.

We have to make 9 to 12 threes per game to be a top seed. Winning the 16 team conference is good but we are looking for bigger things aren't we?

Happy New Year my peeps.

West Virginia- a game finally • Jan 01, 2025 02:35 AM

@Kcmatt7

Bill was really pissed by the last call but cut it off and went thru the sportsmanship line.

West Virginia- a game finally • Jan 01, 2025 02:31 AM

Zeke Mayo was mad at himself for not getting the and one shots to fall but 13/13 from the line is impressive especially when the announcers had tried to jinx him. He makes scoring look effortless and I think he should get even more points per game going forward. Whatever flipped the switch IDK but it's sweet to watch.

West Virginia- a game finally • Jan 01, 2025 12:42 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

We first cut it to two they hit a jumper to go up four, Coit missed a trey badly and Yesfu didn't miss and we were seven down just like that with 5 minutes to go. We were still down by six at the 1:36 mark. So for 3 and 1/2 minutes we only made up one point. Their 5 point run shortened the game when we were defending much better.

West Virginia- a game finally • Jan 01, 2025 12:09 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

I don't know either but he is likely costing himself a fair price of change with the path he has chosen.

West Virginia- a game finally • Jan 01, 2025 12:03 AM

It was a good call by Self when he took a chance with Flory during our rally. I don't believe WVU grabbed an offensive rebound after that.

@SlimShaddy54 said in West Virginia- a game finally:

Flory needs to be on the floor more- - he was the one who got us back in this-- Eight points and Eleven rebounds , and Zeke once again leading scorer 27 points- -mercy

Yes he was everywhere and even able to guard the guards. His board work and making tough shots was great to see. KJ was out of it from the first play of the game which he screwed up. Flory needs to start over KJ and others.

West Virginia- a game finally • Dec 31, 2024 08:51 PM

It was a hell of a comeback. Went to shit when Flory was pulled for KJ who made three quick fouls and missed an easy game winner. Flory and Zeke you guys were great. Again a KU team that gets down big in the first half like 15 in this game. Storr, Griffen, Coit where are you.
