Wow. Bucks Boycott Game 5 • Aug 27, 2020 01:42 PM

@kjayhawks so if i go to a bar and someone whom I'm pretty sure took my wallet, whom I also think may have a knife tries to pull away when I grab him by the back of his shirt, if I shoot him in the back 7 times... I shouldn't, but if I do, it's his fault too that I shot him, because he tried to pull away from me, right?

Wow. Bucks Boycott Game 5 • Aug 27, 2020 11:39 AM

@jayhawks2010

Under no circumstances is it acceptable for an officer of the law to shoot a man down for attempting to enter his car, so whats the point in qualifying it?

I get it. Empathy for the officers. It's a tough job. The officers are supposed to be able to handle belligerent people without shooting them. That IS the job.

And if you build up a culture of fear and mistrust, can you be surprised that someone acts irrationally when confronted by police?

Wow. Bucks Boycott Game 5 • Aug 27, 2020 09:39 AM

In a situation like this, I think the officer should have restrained the person sooner, and should not have had guns drawn.

I think our love for guns in this country contributes massively to the problem, because use of deadly force is one click away from the outset of every encounter.

It seems like solutions can be found in tactics to make this situation not escalate.

Wow. Bucks Boycott Game 5 • Aug 27, 2020 09:34 AM

@jayhawks2010 i'd be down with police officers having to get a blackbelt in a martial art. That would teach them discipline, respect and confidence in non-deadly means of restraint as a primary tactic.

With all that being said, hopefully the public can be educated on respecting officers and following their directions to avoid these encounters.

I think the public is getting a crash course education on respecting officers right now from videos like this. I have no respect for this. You have to earn respect. It's a two way street.

Wow. Bucks Boycott Game 5 • Aug 27, 2020 08:45 AM

@kjayhawks Chasing this guy around his car and shooting him in the back is absolutely inexcusable. I don't know how one can watch the video you posted and justify what they did in any capacity. Whether he was white or black. Doesn't matter. Totally inexcusable. I've never seen a video of a cop do that to a white person. Maybe it exists? If it does, that would be awful and inexcusable as well. But the fact is that this was yet another black guy getting brutally attacked by law enforcement.

Wow. Bucks Boycott Game 5 • Aug 27, 2020 01:56 AM

@FarmerJayhawk unions do seem to be a problem when it comes to law enforcement.

I think the majority of police are not in a union. I don't know think busting the police unions is a magic bullet but it probably would help avoid concealment of abuse.

Wow. Bucks Boycott Game 5 • Aug 26, 2020 11:32 PM

... after Blake shooting. League cancelled all playoff games tonight in response.

I support this :hundred_points: How organized is BLM at this point? Obviously this senseless violence by police keeps happening and it seems like BLM needs to make some clear demands even while reserving a "you know it when you see it approach" in reaction.

Is it possible?

Room on the White Sox bandwagon? • Aug 26, 2020 05:11 AM

Wow! Giolito!

The "crap on Trump" thread • Aug 26, 2020 12:43 AM

I'm not registered with either party. It's the same here in Virginia re: primaries, for now.

The "crap on Trump" thread • Aug 26, 2020 12:36 AM

@FarmerJayhawk well, I can't say I watched most of it; I didn't. And I can't say i didn't see any stupid moments. So, I'm open to something better. I just can't trust the Republican Party.

The "crap on Trump" thread • Aug 26, 2020 12:30 AM

The change I want is this ass-clown out or the oval office. The problem with a dichotomy is that it is self perpetuating. One does not want to give up leverage to the "greater of two evils" with no chance of victory for the 3rd party candidate you would like to support. And running a convincing winning campaign as a third party candidate to date has not been very plausible. Maybe if third parties get better at leveraging social media or something. Build online pacts to agree they will all vote for the 3rd party guy, etc.

The "crap on Trump" thread • Aug 25, 2020 11:35 PM

@FarmerJayhawk wow that's sad. So... Why not sell the house and move to a nicer neighborhood? I mean.. It sounds like the Democratic Party would be a likely landing spot for disillusioned conservatives. Force the Democratic party to stay centrist and the progressives have to jump ship or stay anchored.

Philly is a dissapoinment • Aug 25, 2020 05:58 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 true embiids injured have been varied and not chronic in one place. Orbital socket, knee, foot, finger... One problem that has been called out is that he falls down too much. Not sure if he's stopped doing that?

Philly is a dissapoinment • Aug 25, 2020 02:25 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 agree with the durability issue and not making him a centerpiece. If Simmons could shoot a 3 it would strengthen your argument. JoJo career .319, Simmons career .083!! Thats rough. Not sure you want to build around that either.

@kjayhawks NFL explained it as a contamination at their NJ lab.

Wow they actually have a couple that pointed their guns at BLM protesters as speakers?

Yeah but... No amendments to the platform right? Was that part of the 2016 platform then?

The "crap on Trump" thread • Aug 24, 2020 07:41 PM

@FarmerJayhawk a cop out. I expected nothing more.

They don't have aides that could help them use a computer?

"Continued enthusiastic support of Trump's America First agenda..." 176,802 dead and counting. Still first!

@jayhawkblue73 gotcha.

@jayhawkblue73 said in Differentiating fact from opinion on COVID-19:

read of a health site last night -- Headline read : COVID -19 Soaring in these 5 States.

Iowa , Kansas , Illinois , North Dakota , & South Dakota
....
We need everyone to follow the same playbook. Kansas has 37,544 cases & 431 Deaths.

Btw I thought you might have stale numbers there because those are the numbers the Google widget was reporting but looking at the numbers on kdh they looked lower. :man_shrugging: site says update mwf by 12:30 so maybe someone at kdh went on lunch break before clicking submit...

https://www.coronavirus.kdheks.gov/160/COVID-19-in-Kansas ↗

Typically i would assume the state numbers would be more accurate. Weeds out third party telephone tag / CDC number suppression. But maybe that's not always the case of maybe Google is going more to the source now.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 23, 2020 12:46 PM

@FarmerJayhawk thanks as always for bringing a measured response in counterpoint. Really helpful. You help me not live in a bubble. I admittedly didn't read the Giuliani post. Lazy googling. Saw the title and didn't see "pedophile" in the missing words, so made an assumption. It's still slander. If you talk to YouTube commenters for too long you too might think that Trump's base is dealing with an entirely warped set of facts.

I think you're downplaying things that matter but it's reasonable. I hope the Republican party isn't rotten to the core, but I remain skeptical.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 23, 2020 02:46 AM

@FarmerJayhawk FNC doesn't have to say Biden is a pedophile, they just need to portray Trump Jr and Giuliani in a positive light (and they most certainly do) while they run around saying Biden's a pedophile. Damage done.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 22, 2020 10:36 PM

@FarmerJayhawk calling Trump a "bad messenger" of a nationalist, populist message isnt :hundred_points: though. A bad messenger doesn't say the right things. Trump doesn't do right things. Often he does the worst possible things. Deliberately! But somehow people still support him.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 22, 2020 10:27 PM

@FarmerJayhawk the fact that 80% of Republicans don't know what QAnon is is a bad thing; they're listening to QAnon rhetoric from Fox News (e.g. "Biden's a pedo"). Being conditioned unwittingly to vote for demagogues and nut jobs.

As for the USPS shakeup, what do you think the intent by Trump administration was there? How is this a conspiracy theory?

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 22, 2020 08:37 PM

The Republican party right now is not a monolith! It's a cabal of rich people, pro life people, gun people, "anti-liberals", racists, and crazies.

I don't see the party rejecting the crazies. Tell me @FarmerJayhawk how many times do you think they will mention rejecting QAnon or racism at the Republican Convention? My guess is zero. And they never will.

Morally bankrupt.

I would love to debate this because I'm just not seeing the other side of this atm. Obviously there are good people that are Republicans. But when
40% of the country is supporting Trump right now, I don't think the good elements of the Republican party are enough to save it.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 22, 2020 08:27 PM

@FarmerJayhawk I don't follow.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 22, 2020 11:37 AM

Those crazy fringe group conspiracy theorists that have found a home in the Republican party aren't going anywhere.

Another way put. How do you stop this train?

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 22, 2020 10:48 AM

Yes. Right. All of these things are true. But let's talk about the elephant in the room.

The Republican Party enabled this nightmare. We've seen what the end game from the Republican party looks like. Win at all costs. Even if it means enabling a monster. With an uneducated, disillusioned base, I see Trump as the blueprint thaf the party will continue to employ. This is a beginning. And it needs to be the end.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 21, 2020 11:47 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 well ok. I know what impeachment means. My point is we should have kicked the sorry sack of sh-- to the curb, is that more precise?

Still should. Every minute he's in office enables him.

And if the Senate wasn't a den of corruption, i.e. controlled by Republicans (see again, two things that aren't synonymous, but this time I'm deliberately conflating them) impeachment WOULD have resulted in removal.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 21, 2020 10:55 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I take your point but yeah, what @benshawks08 said.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 21, 2020 09:30 PM

We should have impeached the m***er. Now we need to remove the Postmaster General for perjury. Should impeach Trump still. Not hope that we can somehow have a fair election while he tries to do everything in his power to corrupt it.

@FarmerJayhawk I can't see myself voting Republican ever after this. This has been such a godawful nightmare. It's gonna take a long time for me to ever trust the party that enabled this, probably never.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 21, 2020 03:53 PM

Biden was somewhat reserved in his acceptance speech. His detractors saw that as being slow. I can't wait to watch him kick Donald Trump's ass all over the stage. Can't run away from the podium during a debate. Or maybe that'll be another first.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 21, 2020 03:23 PM

Spent the better part of last night discussing reality with Trump supporters on YouTube. Someone needs to reach out to them in their bubble.

The "crap on Trump" thread • Aug 20, 2020 06:53 PM

@Kcmatt7 absolutely. Totally picking up what you're dropping, my QAnon brother.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 20, 2020 06:01 PM

Kamala looked like the Grinch trying to smile. Someone told "Mamala" she was too cold. (I didn't come up with this comparison but I agree). I turned her off.

Mr. Graham to represent... • Aug 20, 2020 02:48 PM

@Marco agreed. Kings and he'd be D-League.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 20, 2020 11:26 AM

Barack was outstanding. No pulled punches. If Trump wins it's the end of American democracy.

@Texas-Hawk-10 :) you in person or virtual? I can't remember if you said. Good luck. I'm sure it's going to be a rollercoaster.

@benshawks08 progressives need a seat at the table and they need to be welcomed.

@jayhawkblue73 kieff is on Lakers.

As an aside Frank put up a nice stat line for the Bucks in extended minutes the other night (!)

I think Mario was the only Jayhawk other than Pierce to win a championship as a starter in the NBA modern era (Sasha got a ring in Cleveland as a deep bench guy). That should count for something.

@Texas-Hawk-10 you left out Embiid though

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 19, 2020 07:10 PM

@FarmerJayhawk what happened when they lost your ballot? Did you not get to vote?

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 19, 2020 02:52 PM

Are you guys gonna vote in person or via mail? I'm starting to lean towards the former and vote early, just because I don't trust Trump's mail.

The Democratic Convention! Day 2 • Aug 18, 2020 08:45 PM

...Of which I did not see day 1. Under the weather and slept last night. If anyone has feelings from tonight/yesterday, please share. I'll also try to watch day 1 when I can and posit any questions I have here.

I don't think Bill Clinton should speak tonight fwiw. I think his day has passed.

Room on the White Sox bandwagon? • Aug 18, 2020 01:08 PM

@wissox nice! I've got a 6th grader, going to be virtual starting in a new school. Do you have any interesting books about science you'd recommend? He's a voracious reader (though mostly fantasy, I probably also need to find some good science fiction for him to bridge the gap).

@jayhawkblue73 I hope we can continue to live in a world where competence from authority figures is expected.

And boom goes the dynamite.

@DanR :hundred_points: agreed. what is the point?

It seems the only schooling that can reasonably open would be hyperlocal rural school.

Universities are only opening because they're a business imo
