What About Mitchell? β€’ Aug 28, 2017 10:42 PM

@mayjay thanks for the reminder on Coleby to WKU. Never occurred to me that Mitchell's PT time would be affecting Colebys.

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 26, 2017 09:46 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I dont think I can watch it for a week, but tell me the most balanced fair program and I'll watch it one time and report back?

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 26, 2017 08:03 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I have watched a bit a couple months ago in a hotel (Tucker Carlson made me want to claw my face off) and at doctor's offices over the years (made my maladies seem more trivial after force watching Fox). I have watched clips of various broadcasts and OReilly clips over the years and I despise the guy. He is a self absorbed windbag who can't tell a falafel from a loofah. While I havent subjected myself of late, I don't think my feelings toward fox are without any exposure.

Excellent. Yeah, tbh, podcasts from close to middle-of-the-road sources may be the most honest news out there. Feels like theres a higher level of integrity.

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 25, 2017 09:04 PM

@DoubleDD I've been listening to podcasts for my daily news. Here's my daily line up:!0_1503695241084_Screenshot_20170825-170412.png β†—

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 25, 2017 08:46 PM

@DoubleDD Until you agree that Fox News is MSM and deeply biased, we are going to have a hard time finding middleground, I'm afraid. They are in the business of selling biased stories. There's no way around it. Say what you will about CNN and MSNBC, I'm not trying to defend them. I think you're skirting around the point here.. You ever watch Clean House with Niecy Nash? You gotta let the clutter go man. Who wants a clean house?!

! β†—

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 25, 2017 07:47 PM

@DoubleDD OK! Let's find middle ground here. I think there's enough on the table on this one where we can compromise... I agree DWS is likely dirty and or stupid and or in politics for the wrong reasons. I'll withhold judgement like you but I think we probably see completely eye to eye on her. What I ask is that you recognize that she is not all Democrats. She's DWS. I also agree that CNN and MSNBC underreported the story, but it seems there haven't been new things coming to light so I say that in the past tense, with full anticipation that they will underreport again should new things come to light! What I ask is that you stop talking about MSM bias, recognizing that Fox News is MSM, and instead refer to specific networks and their bias, even if it means typing a few more characters. This gets rid of the conspiracy element of it and calls out specific deficiencies in specific networks.

When new facts come to light on DWS and Awans I'm counting on you, @jayhawkfantoo and the rest of the board to keep me aware and on top of it!

Can we agree here buddy? :handshake_tone2:

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 25, 2017 06:41 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I'm not looking for liberal publications talking about the stories, looking for neutral ones. Not having much luck myself but I had time to dig around a little and found some of this reported by NY Times and read a couple other conservative sources.

The gist is, as I see it, the Awans are bad people, Wasserman Schultz overpaid them and people think that they "must have something on someone". And they're being investigated by the FBI right? It seems like this is the proper channel to handle it.

I agree that CNN and MSNBC seem to have neglected the story, though I don't watch them. Is it possible that the lack of coverage for the greater spectrum of news outlets is because there aren't any ongoing facts surfacing, even ancillary to the story, that can be reported?

I think what's frustrating to people aligned to the left is that this story seems to be thrown around as a counterpoint to Trump's Russia collusion investigation and it really is a different investigation. Are both parties dirty? Absolutely.

What's the possible scope here? DWS is dirty and gets exposed. Awans stole emails and leaked them.

LAWSON BAR BILL β€’ Aug 25, 2017 11:28 AM

@JayHawkFanToo @JayhawkerRedLegs there's an old ballad that is perfect here. I heard an unknown band sing this variation of it a long time ago:

I once knew a man, a skinny man, a skinny man from Hoboken. And if I told you how skinny he was, you'd think that I was jokin'.

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 24, 2017 05:45 PM

@DoubleDD I'm not interested in CNN either. Just something more credible than Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel's baby. No doubt it's harder to hunt around. And I completely agree, it's effort that most don't have the time to do. But how can you take anything as fact without confirmation from verifiable sources?

Where is the investigation? β€’ Aug 24, 2017 01:33 PM

The Daily Caller. The Daily Caller is an American news and opinion website based in Washington, D.C.. It was founded by Tucker Carlson, a libertarian conservative political pundit, and Neil Patel, former adviser to former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Can we find a less compromised source?

@jaybate-1-0 it looks like the text of Abott's Frederick the Great book is available here: https://archive.org/details/historyoffrederi00abbouoft β†—

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 19, 2017 05:40 AM

@JayHawkFanToo this is after his initial statement saying both sides were to blame and then saying that again on Wednesday. For a white supremacist that reads like "I don't want to hate on you but I have to. All these things I have to say for the camera." I think it is pretty apparent that there is very deliberate subtext here in a lame attempt to fracture as little as possible the racist voting block that powered Trump in the election. Now it's clear that the backlash is too great, so Bannon falls on his sword and is "out" which means out the front door and in the backdoor, while dropping some ominous statements. Can you tell me what Bannon meant by:

"His natural tendency β€” and I think you saw it this week on Charlottesville β€” his actual default position is the position of his base, the position that got him elected."

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 02:50 AM

@DoubleDD thanks man. This week has been pretty emotional and it helps to talk about it.

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 02:45 AM

So I think some of the terms and arguments you use feel like they come from the right wing spin machine. I don't see anything fishy about white people wanting the statues down. In fact, that gives me hope. Were it only black people that wanted them down you think their voice would be heard? The fact is that a lot of people of all colors want to make it clear that this overt racial prejudice is not welcome here. When you refer to leftists and alt left, you are using terms made up by people with an agenda to create the appearance of some sort of unified, abnormal threat that they can rally against. The fact is, this so called "alt left" in this case is just people with a conscience that are saying they don't want KKK parading around their town in broad daylight.

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 02:16 AM

@DoubleDD I'm quite confident the media you subscribe to likes Trump :)

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 02:14 AM

I don't think the two party system makes us great. I think it hinders us from seeing the issues because we are hung up on partisanism. I would argue that instead of looking at conservative and liberal as two opposing groups look at them at ends of a single spectrum. I do appreciate the saying that s Democrat is a Republican that hasn't been mugged yet, because I do think that feeling threatened makes people conservative and I also think that liberal thinking yields more creative solutions. Thats why I don't think Democrats and and Republicans are liberal and conservative respectively. I think they are mostly all conservative and self serving. And I do think we need more l liberal thinkers who are in it for the good of humanity and are intelligent to balance things out. Where are those people? Few in politics.

So to your last point regarding dropping the past, I think you're right, and to me that means taking all the statues down. There's no place for the KKK in this country. That needs to be made clear and these statues are obviously a rallying point for this racist garbage. This is not a slippery slope re the left attacking the constitution. This is about burying metal skeletons and chasing away the ghosts that encircle them.

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 01:54 AM

So is it possible that when you subject yourself to spin media, the news is in fact like terrorists brainwashing you while they hold you hostage, and you are exhibiting Stockholm syndrome when you start to side with them after the nth repeating no matter what the words they are saying are? It's a matter of self preservation. Be a highly stimulated nervous wreck and then believe in their call to action because you think it could make the anxiety they stirred up in you stop?

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 01:06 AM

I don't want my kids bombarded with threats until they think it is them against the world and they have to be selfish and look out for no one else.

That's what depresses me the most right now. I want them to have a world where people are kind to one another, considerate, I want them to feel like part of something great, marry wonderful people and feel like the future is bright for their kids.

Not feel like they live in fragmented chaos where we are constantly one step away from disaster, nobody cares about anyone else, and everyone is a threat.

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 01:03 AM

The part the article omits is what I assume... That people change over time. This isn't something they are just born with.

You can't help yourself? β€’ Aug 19, 2017 12:58 AM

@DoubleDD

they support recent evidence that conservatives show greater sensitivity to threatening stimuli

Hence the constant framing of alternative viewpoints as threats by media.

If this is true then it would possibly confirm my feeling that DT will make us all conservatives simply by constantly threatening liberal sensibilities, and the media on both sides blaring the air raid sirens.

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 19, 2017 12:45 AM

@DoubleDD I think there have been some pretty strong arguments for why it is the right thing to take the statues down. If there's one thing we've learned about this presidency it is that polls can be deceiving, right?

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 18, 2017 11:24 AM

@DoubleDD also disgraceful, this story quotes a random person on an indeterminate social media platform to try to strengthen their point. Apparently, their target is not the person who did this, but rather everyone who possibly could have done this or sympathized with this.

"F- Abe Lincoln,” responded Quintin Mitchell, whose comment was β€œliked” or deemed β€œfunny” by 160 others.

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 18, 2017 01:50 AM

@JayHawkFanToo If millions of people felt that way? Maybe. But there's a difference. The Civil War was in large part about the institution of slavery. Jefferson represents the founding of this country, first and foremost. I don't really care what Al Sharpton says.

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 17, 2017 11:54 PM

@JayHawkFanToo There's nothing wrong with holding everyone accountable. But you act like wrongdoings by Democrats somehow justify bad things that Republicans do. Can't we disapprove of all wrong doing without sorting it into two partisan buckets first? Do you assume that all people who agree with some liberal idealogy condone all actions by all Democratic politicians?

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 17, 2017 08:35 PM

@approxinfinity also, the fact that statues seem to be a bridge between white nationalists and Trump sympathizers is a scary, dangerous, slippery slope. I think we need to a double take as @Kcmatt7 suggested and ask why not take them down .

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 17, 2017 08:27 PM

@Kcmatt7 exactly. What's so wrong with having empathy and loving thy neighbor?

For most Americans, the question isn't whether you're racist because you don't want them taken down, it's whether you're not being respectful of what these statues represent to people other than yourself.

@DoubleDD @JayHawkFanToo let me try to give some perspective here on the statues. This isn't equivalent to whether the Japanese concentration camps remain as museums. What you are arguing is the equivalent of debating whether Germany should take statues of just Hitler or also the Nazi soldiers wearing swastikas down. The ones they erected 50 years after the war. I do not think that ever happened in Germany. But it happened here. The fact that some people derive some vague sense of connection with their southern heritage from these statues is a non starter. My grandfather was a Nazi soldier who died in Russia. I do not want a statue of him in Nazi gear in a public park.

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 17, 2017 11:09 AM

@JayHawkFanToo ok man. I see the questions you are asking. The source was off putting. And also, regardless of what the police did or didn't do, the fact remains that racists congregated in Charlottesville to protest the removal of confederate statues, and that they feel they have an ally in President Trump. It's disturbing how this President's has wielded their sentiment to his advantage and as long as he waffles on condemning it, he gives the appearance that now is the time for this kind of thing. The argument that the police let this happen skips over the fact that the biggest instigator of this event remains Donald Trump.

This changes what we have heard... β€’ Aug 17, 2017 02:32 AM

It seems hard to ignore the appearance that Trump has been able to unite the sentiment of racists in America and is now reluctant to turn on them.

I'm having a hard time with what happened in Charlottesville, to be honest. I was having a hard time before anything happened, when encouraging family members Saturday morning that we might consider taking down statues that a certain part of our citizenship feel represent the dehumanization of their race, statues that were erected during Jim Crow laws and later in reaction to the civil rights movement.

What's wrong with a little empathy?

Sick of this portrayal of life as a zero sum game, and it seems everyone is eating it up without realizing they're doing it.

ROYALS vs Cards game 1 β€’ Aug 12, 2017 06:50 PM

@JayHawkFanToo do you really think the Royals have had average talent at best the last few years? I am not following them closely enough to be sure, but it seems like a team that has stockpiled prospects for a decade should have better than average talent.
