Comeback starts here.
Frank's favorite player is Dirk Nowitski!
Boom! As long as we pass the ball around and get an open shot I'm happy. Great recognition Svi.
That was a foul on Mason?
Calling Agent Zero.
Probably more importantly. We need our yellow lane to stop resembling swiss cheese on D.
@DanR There were moments where we were making crisp passes reversing the ball where we got some wide open looks. Also, JJ and Devonte seem to be on another level of consciousness understanding how to break down the pressure (I didnt check their TO's, but last 10 min, swag). Hopefully we can continue to lean on them to make the play, find the open man, and green light all shooters.
But if one school has the most talented players, best coach, and best training facilities, how can the other school have a chance if the refs don't help?
I believe in fair.
@BeddieKU23 Come on. Josh was about 4 feet higher than the other guy and the other guy wasnt established.
How are you going to call a foul on Devonte when his back and the guy he "fouled"'s back is to you.
Jackson's poise with the ball in pressure situations is great. Now to make FTs.
@chriz they booed him at one point after it appeared he pushed off to create space on inbound, then made the bucket on other end.
ESPN showing horror movie commercials with my 7 y.o. and 5 y.o. watching. Thanks ESPN!
In your face WV! Devonte played 2 guys in the lane like a fiddle, drives, draws contact then reverse layup with ease.
Come on MItch, be strong! yes!
Oooh! Nice Carlton, keep it up!
Josh for 3? Lord. that one actually looked nice! Form improving.
Vick for 33333333... do... more of that!
Before the break, the gushing by Vitale started... a syrupy nothingness that comforts and dulls the senses... the feeling that the game is moving away from a deadlock.
Seeing a stretch of swag here. Carlton, Devonte, Frank and Josh all showing it. Good stuff.
Block by Carlton. Block again!
POY 4 3.
JJ taking the charge. Excellent recognition. Then strong dunk by Carlton other end. Emotion.
Hey Carter, you all don't need to be hitting 3s.
Frank fouled on shot, no call. Then possible backcourt not called on WV.
@globaljaybird was good man! he ran point the whole game, didn't come out (we only had 6) so its great to see him get comfortable directing the offense. less TOs, better recognition of the D, now we have to fix his shot. shooting from the shoulder.
@DanR Agree, as long as he doesn't collect a dumb foul / go to the pine.
Now its getting chippy right before first tv timeout, elliciting boos from the Mountaineer faithful. Frank almost collected 2nd foul pushing off on inbounds, then he got fouled driving on the other end.
@jaybate-1.0 now 11-8 us
@jaybate-1.0 Not too physical, but all 9 of our points from 3 threes thus far.
I think Lucas is going to smell like 5 brands of deodorant before this game is over.
Perfected the art of getting his hand stuck in people's armpits.
Is it going to be a long night? I'm scared.
@dylans lol ty!
@wissox you are right that Duke is in our heads. But this isn't an inferiority complex for me. It has to do with media force feeding us Duke, and us not appreciating it.
It has much less to do with basketball the sport and more to do with basketball the business. And it is a nasty business. And it may well make bball less fun, but if we didn't talk about it, I'm not sure if it would feel better or worse. We'd still get hit with it elsewhere. :shrug:
I hearby pledge for the next week (til next Tuesday) I will refrain from saying anything Duke related on here, and I'll assess how I feel then.
:thumbsup:
@drgnslayr Absolutely! But Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams don't use words like "thug" or "spoiled brat" when talking about poor little Grayson. They only talk about how he needs help, he's not having fun, he needs a break from basketball to collect himself.
Since when has it been the college b-ball community's responsibility to raise Grayson Allen?
They talk about how Allen is a distraction for the team. How about a distraction for the country? I want to hear more about Florida State sitting at 6-1 in conference and #9 in the nation!
You are the monopoly ESPN. You spun this Grayson Allen story! Now just like any other network that peddles fiction that declines in quality, you need to recognize it, kill it, and move on.
@jaybate-1.0 Interesting read.
Is this in response to anything in particular? Sorry I trolled your thread about Shaka and pace :smile: I admit it. I hit you with the ol' lazy swoop and poop. No malice, just malaise.
Andrew Jones draining an nba 3 when all you need is a 2... lol. Well alright then. Nice shot!
I actually think Texas is improving. I mean, they really really sucked in the non-con. There was nowhere to go but up.
@JayHawkFanToo Something is fishy when the absence of losses in a weak schedule is valued so highly, like Massey.
UCLA drops because the west coast conferences are always weak. I've given up picking Arizona to win in the tournament because they ALWAYS underachieve, just like Gonzaga.
But I don't think any of these models have really figured out how to assess the current trending of the team. My guess is they don't get granular enough in the data they examine.
@JayHawkFanToo hard to buy into a rating system that ranks gonzaga #1. Sure it's hard to statistically smell an imposter when they play in a crappy conference, never have early attrition to the league and don't play a challenging noncon.... But we all know that when the pressure is on, they'll crumple like Coach K on horse tranqs.
@BeddieKU23 Graham's stats stand out. Aside from Frank's otherworldly 3PT% and big time play in pressure situations, statistically Devonte is right there with Frank. I always shake my head a little when the commentators say they are "practically twins", but this shows that Devonte's contributions in conference play have been extremely valuable as well.
Lucas too. Good god. 13 rebs per game? 10 points per game? Wow, I need to take off the shades and let the sun's crimson and blue rays find my face.
To build on @JayHawkFanToo 's qualification of JJ's FG%, some of those misses inside are where he's batting the ball around and relying on his superior quickness to get the subsequent rebound.
Thanks for posting this. Great positive wakeup call, imo.
@drgnslayr agree about the length of the season. Way too many games and not enough preparation or concern goes into each game. With half of the teams making the playoffs a lot of the regular season games are often irrelevant, and the split between the crappy east and the stronger west makes the fate of the 8 that are in on each side all the more certain early in the regular season. Also the top heavy league means only a couple teams really have a prayer of winning playoff series at the end of the season. And the lottery system encourages tanking to rebuild. Everywhere you look there are reasons that make the NBA boring. It's rough.
@JayhawksandChill I think we win at the octagon of dumb, JJ will go off on their underwhelming bigs for a career night.
Also it seems like we have made strides defensively and they won't shoot the lights out in the first half like last time.
Gotta go guys. Good luck Jayhawks... and good luck... my son's.... blue team... :grimacing:
I'm really glad Frank has become the defacto senior Wooden candidate this year, commentators lining up behind him.
JJ 2 threes? Oh lawdy. :traffic_light: gonna be all green light now!
@HawkChamp agreed. above all else, just hope we enter the tournament healthy and hungry. then we'll see what we're really made of.
@globaljaybird :thumbsup: :100:
@HawkChamp Svi and Josh super clumsy in transition. Maybe thats the Havoc effect.
