@jayballer67 sad for me? Or like the whole situation is sad? I agree the whole situation is sad. But Alabama sure didn’t act like it was.

Okay so I very easily could be way off and totally , totally wrong on this but I really don't understand WHY these announcers had to re-hash things that everyone already knows for sure by now and that's Brandon Miller involvement with the Murder that happened. -Just don't feel that needs to be brought up again at this time.
I mean everyone if they are alive knows the details on this - -no charges are brought on Miller he is considered a witness - -let the kid play, it will all come out in the end if it's different- it will work it'self out just didn't think it needed to be brought up AGAIN right now
Shout that stuff from the roof tops. Only reason that kid didn’t face any repercussions is because he’s the best player on a high profile team. So glad Alabama went down. Only team I was actively rooting against other than mizzou. That situation was handled so poorly by that program that it should be the only thing people talk about when Alabama basketball is mentioned. From the multiple players involved to the coaches nonchalant attempt to blow past it as if it wasn’t a big deal.

I give up. KU is screwed next year. Back in a year... adios!
Don't give up, but also don't get overly caught up in this quick fix transfer portal/free agency market. The best teams, as you know, DEVELOP players. That's what Kansas has done best to stay on top. Yes we've had a few nice one year pick ups, but the heart and soul of the Jayhawks will always be players developed here. Players like Ochai, Devonte, Frank, Doke, David, Cole, Perry, Jalen, Christian, etc.
Our next crop of true blue Jayhawks are already on our roster and they are coming back with something to prove. Juan made some significant mental errors in that Arkansas game that were uncharacteristic for him. I'd imagine those mistakes are baking into a nice crispy chip on his shoulder. Everyone has said that KJ is too small to play the 5 and can't shoot well enough to play anything else. Does KJ seem like the kind of kid who hears that and thinks, yep, might as well give up? CHIP. Udeh is a 6'11'' McDonalds All American who couldn't beat out a 6'6" guard with short arms for the 5 spot this year. Is that motivating or demoralizing? Ask him and I'd bet he'd give you the right answer. Zuby is a rebounding machine who was on track to be the guy to back up KJ this year until injury got in the way. Do you think his plan is to come back and ride the bench?
I'll take those guys over some transfer who wants to get more individual attention from wearing Kansas on his jersey. They have the tools. Did you see that block Udeh had in the first half after one of those "athletic" arkansas guards beat his man badly? Dude thought he had a free layup. Nope, Udeh had the awareness to recover and help, and the athleticism to make a block off a drop step at the rim look routine. Did you see the way Zuby goes after every rebound with two hands? How lesser men bounce off of his big shoulders as they fight for position and the ball?
We are so good at the five next year not because the guys we have are already good enough to hold down the spot but because they know exactly what they need to do to take their skills to the next level. They have a year (or two) in the system and have a relationship with the coaches that will allow them to progress over time like so many of our favorite jayhawks have.

Glad the discourse here is better than other sites that shall not be named. Where the extent of “who should we get?” consists of sorting CBB reference by 3 point %.
We do need shooters... But wow.
@BeddieKU23 Would be a nice bench guard piece in my opinion. Probably not the big get a lot are talking about how we need to fill those starter spots.

Puff Johnson of UNC in
Wasn't he the defensive specialist from them who came in and lit us up for a bit during the title game?
Question I've been pondering: Would anyone here trade places with Arkansas right now? Obviously we'd rather be in the sweet 16 than not but honestly trade places with them for the whole season. Like our team lost 14 games, has some NBA talent and athletic at the other positions. Played some undisciplined ball but tried real hard especially in the tournament. Came in as an 8 seed. Will be underdogs in the tournament pretty much the rest of the way. Etc.
I'd still take our year even with the early exit but that's just me. What do y'all think?
@Kcmatt7 Feel really good about udeh and zuby manning the paint next year. They both have some skill and athleticism. The understanding and acclimation to the level of play were the main issues for them this year. Those are going to be better next year for sure.
@dylans said in 2022-23 stats-PER, Kenpom etc:
@BeddieKU23 Assuming KJs growth is linear and not exponential, he should only score 100 points per game next season.
Maybe if we start him at the 4...

To be clear, this isn’t me. But I do think kj makes more threes next year than this year.
If you don't mind, lmk your twitter. I'll follow. <3
I don’t actually tweet anything. I just follow folks and read stuff. But it’s the same as my handle here.

@drgnslayr said in Assistant Coach Roberts was... "soft":
I definitely don't want anyone to think I think our coaching sucks... Norm or Bill.
But I have always questioned if we brought enough enthusiasm to games. I've ranted about this for years.
Last year... I felt like my rant was challenged by winning the title and largely being the same as usual... not showing a great deal of emotion.
I still battle with this idea. Is it composure versus enthusiasm? Isn't it possible we have both?
I watched the Zags take down TCU last night and I saw both. Never been a huge Zags fan but I think Few is one of the best coaches in D1.
This gets into an area everyone in here knows me for... I am "Mr. Chip!" lol
Christian Braun may have something to say to you classifying last year's team as "not showing a great deal of emotion"
Jalen was really trying to be Och and Braun this year. He did pretty good on both counts really as the steady role model and emotional leader.
Can't decide if I'd rather Texas win it as kudos to the strong big 12 this year or Houston so that we can still say all of the recent champs are in the big 12 next year. (Is Texas officially out of the big12 for basketball next year? I know they are still in for football.)
I would still be so nervous if we were still in it about Coach's health moving forward. He talked in one of the brief interviews I saw about checking his blood pressure in his hotel room during the first game and it getting too high when someone didn't get back on D.
Can you imagine being a player on the team and getting beat on a back door cut and looking over at your coach hoping you didn't just set his recovery back? I wonder if this as much as the way Self felt was a consideration for him not coaching in either tournament.
I'm chalking this up to "not our year." Jalen got a title so I don't feel too bad though I know he wanted it bad this year. Kev was only here for a year so not going to cry that he didn't win one as a jayhawk. Juan is coming back. Kj is coming back. Gradey was a freshman... We weren't the first 1 seed to lose. Not close to the biggest upset. This loss isn't nearly as bad as some others where we had program guys for multiple years not making a final four or stuff like that. Winning last year really made this years loss a lot easier to take. I do think we were the better team and showed it for about 25 minutes of that game. Oh well. On to next year.
@BShark said in Hog Wild Game Thread:
How many points do we think Self was worth here? At least 10?
Well how many did we score in special situations? He’s good for about 50%of those.

Upperclassmen this half 3/9 from the line if we lose that’s why
Two of those front ends.
God. Free throws.
Stepped out then two ark players knock it out. Glad we got the stop
Man up jalen.

No

Whew its just 4
Didn’t think he’d make that mistake on number 5.
Your turn jalen.
Is that 5 on kev?
Imagine kj only had the two fouls he actually committed this game.
Refs really want this to be about them.
Kev. My god.
Who is this guy and when did he graduate from ark?
Juan not moving great.
Finally a questionable call our way.
Kev fouled a guy with his face apparently.
Jalen and Juan need to take over.
Couple big plays there by zuby.
Just getting pushed around.
Zuby coming back.
Zach has gotta sit. Weak.
Zone. Yikes.

Hack. No call.
Foul. Foul. Foul. Foul. Foul.
“Loses it” because he was bumped.
Hook and hold missed on that
There you go Gradey! Get tough!!
A foul on Arkansas?????
Wow…..
Ok refs.
Stay down on those shot fakes boys. Let them shoot.
