@approxinfinity Grimes is still lost in his own head. I had hoped things would slow down for him by now.
Closers they are not. Never a dull moment.

Yeah, we've had a lot of great bigs. I might say Dedric is the best scorer from that list and rebounds well too.
@dylans I assume the deadly from 15 feet comment on which you added the usually is a reference to him missing the jumper in the lane that would have won the Bucknell game.
Still makes me sad.
@jayballer73 Self era. He didnāt recruit Wayne, but he did get to coach him.
Iād go Dedrick, Simein, Embiid, Shady, Wright
Shady helped KU to a championship and had a long pro career based on his skill and athleticism. Not much of a shooter his value is in his all around game.
Embiid came a long way in a short time heās now the most skilled, freakishly athletic amazing player you could hope for. But he was a little rough at times while at KU.
Simien was athletic and skilled enough to make it to the NBA. Deadly from 15 feet (usually) with an arsenal of moves in the post. He was a guy that could carry the team every night.
Dedrick canāt hold his position against a guard, he can barely jump over a dime, heck he makes me look athletic, but he averages 20 and 10. Thatās pure skill in my books.
@BShark so where should my expectations be, good as a Jr? Iām trying to keep them low. I donāt need another Grimes on my hands lol.
Small market clubs (i.e. Royals) can not afford 4-5 good starters. I think a great strategy to counter the payroll deficit would be to run 5-9 1-2 inning guys up there every night. They could just straight deal knowing they are just pitching to a few batters and not have to conserve. As a fan it would suck waiting on all those pitchers to warm up.
Dotson dunked it harder this game than I remember Dedrick dunking all season. Dedrick isnāt a great athlete, but heās the most skilled big man Self has ever had. This season would be a total loss without Dedrick. I just wish Hudy had been able to add more muscle to his frame so he could hold his position.
@wissox Iāve been heckled by KSU fans while on the beach in Negril. Those suckers are everywhere, like cockroaches.
Iām enthused, keep āem coming Les!
I hate losing to KSU. I became a KU fan, not at first because KU wins a lot, but mainly because KSU fans are obnoxious. As a kid I didnāt give a care about sports, my best friends didnāt play, my parents didnāt watch. As a 9 year old I was pretty amazed that KU won the National Championship, but that didnāt make me start watching b-ball. After that season the K-State fans became absolutely horrid, jumping on every little thing KU did wrong - game lost, sitting out 89 etc. It was unbecoming and I wasnāt a fan of any team at that point. There were a handful of KU fans in my class, but the bulk were KSU fans. Thankfully the KU fans, even as children, were more polite and easy to identitfy with as the side to team up with. I still didnāt care about sports, but I knew I liked KU as the better fan base at this point. After KU lost in Allen Fieldhouse to K-State a devout KSU fan and friend of mine passed me a note about how the wildcats had come into Allen Fieldhouse and overcome the steep odds to overcome the refs and KU...blah blah blah. It was done, no way I could EVER support a team with fans as such. But still I didnāt watch much basketball KU or other wise, 3 channels made that hard even if I cared. But that was about to change. My middle school and high school basketball coaches ran the flex offense favored by Roy Williamsā Jayhawks. I was good friends with the middle school coachās son (Ironically a KSU grad) and we watched a ton of KU basketball together trying to figure out the ins and outs of the system as it was at times ran to perfection, but always ran better than us š. This is where my love for KU basketball began; watching Ostertag and new coach Williams. Being amazed by Rex Walters and Adonis Jordan. Jacque Vaughn still has the most beautiful play Iāve ever seen eternally etched into my memory -a wrap around pass that he pulled back and layed the ball into the basket. Mr. Floor Burns Jarod Haase is a guy this team could learn from. 96-97 was my Sr year that team shouldnāt have lost a single game. They were the most complete team Roy has ever had. A triple overtime loss to MU ensured I had no love for those cats either. The loss to Arizona is still the most devastating tournament losses I can remember (more damn cats). I was a Freshman at KU for Pierceās Jr year and was able to enjoy every home game that season. The next season I was at the beat down of KSU in Allen that saw the return of Wilt http://m.kusports.com/news/2018/jan/17/20-years-later-wilt-chamberlains-return-kansas-sti/?templates=mobile ā , my only disappointment was that I didnāt wait in the mile long autograph line just to shake his enormous hand. In 98 I had the misfortune of taking my roommate to Manhattan to get his motorcycle that a friend of his had...meanwhile at a stopsign a random KSU football player pulls a gun on us because we pulled in behind him at a stop sign. The audacity! (Still think I chose my school correctly) The haul from Iowa in Hinrich and Collison in 2000 began another epic run. I also remembered Roy being outcoached by Bill while Self was at Tulsa and thinking he was going to make someone very happy some day...glad it was us.
There was a whole slew of KSU hatred towards KU, a few racist rants in Aggieville by random strangers...etc that also made me very happy to be a Jayhawk and sad for KSU fans. We all lose when we act like that. Thatās the best thing Larry Brown gave us.
@joeloveshawks Bill read boards past and is letting Grimes play through his mistakes, you donāt want to shatter his confidence, ya know? Lol
Seriously, I just think Self has too few options on what was supposed to be a deep team. Youāve got to play Vick, or Moore, or Grimes, or KJ, or Mitch. Most games Grimes just disappears. You usually know when the other guys are in. Our McDonaldās AA Center canāt get off the bench even with the two guys ahead of him on the depth chart out for the year. This is not the team America expected last summer.
No leadership, no chemistry, not good...yet I still hold hope this squad will galvanize. It may be losing the streak on the court (not in the court) will motivate the fantastic fresman core to be dominate as Sophomores (and Juniors if I may be greedy). Heck it may be they figure it out after this loss, but it looked all to familiar for me think a turnaround is that eminent.
@mayjay The solution is pretty easy, make the punishment so severe getting caught makes it not worth it. I.e. lifetime ban for players and coaches. That or execution Iām not sure which would work better. (Which is why while disappointed about Silvioās situation I donāt think itās all wrong as long as other players and programs are punished equally across the board...Iām looking at you Zion.)
If things prove to be as corrupt as believed here, Iām over college sports. There is no pride, no true joy in winning by cheating. I donāt cheat in solitaire why would I enjoy screwing someone else over?
Even if the other party is cheating, that doesnāt make it acceptable. Thatās how I live my life, Iām not sorry if itās too high of a standard for these supposed roll models and community leaders to achieve.
First few games Vick was amazing. Now we see the donāt want him to come back Vick. Bipolar play
@approxinfinity In all fairness I did say freshman vs Sr and I stand by it. No comparison. Sr Graham or Sr Mason would pretty much single handedly destroy this team.
Freshman to freshman comp Dotson is better.
@approxinfinity Dotson is great. Turnovers are not.
@Woodrow Freshmen point guards are tough to watch especially after the last couple years.
@approxinfinity What happened to Moore in the second half? Disappeared to the bench it seemed
@bigbad Makes Dokās loss more glaring having to play so many subpar guards.
Heck even Mr no defense Grimes had 4 fouls. Including a charge (or two?) at least he moved his feet occasionally.
Hahaha Vick was so bad on defense the refs couldnāt even call a foul on him.
@approxinfinity Vick was baaad and not in a good way. Throw Grimes in there as well.
The over was the winning bet at 131.5. I was right on my guess for KUs 67 points. I just thought KSU would have 65 to make it interesting.
KSU avg 14.4 fouls at home Ku avg 18 fouls on the road. Tonightās game seems like a bit of an outlier.
@jayballer73 team? No. Tyshawn? Yes.
The game where every flop is a charge
Aargh Vick!!!
My poor three year old looks a little shell shocked...His name is Vic.
What was that?!?
Well grimes and Vick were bad. Too few good options sometimes.
