Whole lotta drama for nothing. Should've just declared when the rumors surfaced. Oh well, I'd rather land an OAD at a position of need (the 5). Hopefully no OADs no matter whom else Bill signs. Diallo come on down for 2!
@JayhawkRock78 My grandmothers second husband had been married to a Cramer girl. We were almost distant relations thru marriage. haha.
@globaljaybird I agree this needs to be cut out. Quit the brawling get back to balling. I just think so far it has played to the Royals advantage; I doubt it is sustainable over the course of a season.

The second weekend of the evaluation period is upon us, and that means Week 2 of "sneaker season" is here. There is an added element of intrigue in this second session though as the three major shoe companies will be operating their collective events all within 175 miles of one another. Here is a look at some of the other storylines to watch:
Nike EYBL (Lexington, Ky.)
Location, location, location: Nike’s prestigious league sets up shop in the backyard of its most prestigious college basketball program. Is it a recruiting advantage for John Calipari and Kentucky to have so many guys in town? It certainly doesn’t hurt.
Coming at No. 1: ESPN 60 Jayson Tatum (No. 1) defended his territory two weeks ago with four strong performances to open the EYBL season. The task only gets tougher this weekend as he and his St. Louis Eagles squad take on MOKAN Elite and ESPN 25 small forward Michael Porter (No. 2) on Friday. Then they face Alabama Challenge and ESPN 25 small forward John Petty (No. 23) and Alabama Challenge early Saturday afternoon before the major showdown happens with Wings Elite and ESPN 60 shooting guard Malik Monk (No. 4).
Big league: When it comes to size, EYBL has a leg up on the competition as it has far more five-star big men than either of its competitors. This weekend will feature a battle of their best bigs as ESPN 60 power forward Harry Giles (No. 2) leads Team CP3 against the Georgia Stars and triple towers in ESPN 60 Udoka Azubuike (No. 10), Abdulhakim Ado (No. 20) and ESPN 25 Wendell Carter (No. 10).
Adidas Uprising Gauntlet (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Finale or bust: Though Nike and Under Armour utilize a regular-season model, Adidas took a different route with one big bracket spanning the course of both live weekends. The goal for all 56 teams in the competition is to advance to the "Elite Eight" and earn a consequent birth in the Gauntlet Finale during the first three days of the July evaluation period in Atlanta. That means there will be a little something extra at stake this weekend.
Decommit buzz: A pair of former Pittsburgh pledges and ESPN 60 products, Mustapha Heron (No. 22) and Maverick Rowan (No. 25), were among the top performers at Week 1 of the Gauntlet. Heron was still committed at the time and should have a big following after last week’s decommitment. Rowan will undoubtedly continue to generate long lines of coaches, partly because he has yet to completely rule out a move up to 2015.
Guard game: If the EYBL is the circuit of big men, Adidas hopes to hang its hat on the guards, and there are plenty of them with ESPN 60 products like Dennis Smith Jr. (No. 4), Kobi-Jordan Simmons (No. 5), Josh Langford (No. 13) and Frank Jackson (No. 30), not to mention wings like Heron, Rowan and Rawle Alkins (No. 27).
Under Armour Association (Louisville, Ky.)
Always close by: When Under Armour moved the UAA Finals to Atlanta last year -- on the same dates that Nike was holding the EYBL Finals at the Peach Jam roughly 100 miles away in North Augusta -- the intent was clear: To go head-to-head on the biggest stages of grassroots basketball. This weekend, it is doing that once again by heading to nearby Louisville while Nike is just 45 minutes up the road in Lexington.
Can Jackson rise? ESPN 60 small forward Josh Jackson (No. 3) led the UAA in scoring in Week 1 and couldn’t have been much more impressive. Nevertheless, the race for the top spot in the ESPN 60 has been between two horses in recent months (Tatum and Giles). The question for Jackson is whether he can continue to raise the bar in order to be a legitimate contender for that No. 1 ranking.
Youth movement: Under Armour calls itself "the brand of this generation; and the next." At the UAA, there seems to have a heavy emphasis on the latter. The No. 1 ranked player in the ESPN 25, DeAndre Ayton, is already the signature prospect in the Association. Fellow ESPN 25 products including Jalek Felton (No. 7), Billy Preston (No. 13), P.J. Washington (No. 14) and Trevon Duval (No. 15) are also on board.
If he's not getting enough beef I may know where some high quality angus is being raised. Right in our pasture! Too bad we can't legally share. I know how these animals are treated from birth until they are loaded on the truck to leave the feedyard that my father manages (whole life). You are right they are implanted with hormones in the ear as soon as they arrive to increase rate of gain and then are fed hormones the last 40 days to increase water retention.
Some on here have massive gardens to spend their spare time, I have a little cow herd; forty momma cows and hopefully 40 calves when it's all said and done. Oh, and a little garden.
I never thought I'd hear the Royals are too passionate and they need to reign it in. I'm just glad they are relavent again. It's been too long. Hope they can keep it up, but I think that the passion has carried over from the post season. I hope they can continue winning at a fast pace, but hope they dont't have to give 100% every night to do it. Another 147 games have to be played to get to the ones that count.
@RockkChalkk I hope you're right. ESPN has him ranked as the 17th overall player. Another year in HS would defininetly help, but he sounds like a stud. At first I thought it would be like Svi, but his impact should be much greater than that.
@Statmachine has anyone posted pictures of the new basketball dorms on these recruits Facebook pages recently? Maybe they need a reminder of where the should be living next year.
@drgnslayr You say you were the height of a 1 or a 2. What position did you play overseas, the 3 or the 4?
Which one is worse off, the guy sitting on the spikes or the guy being sat upon?
Kinda how I feel watching recruiting unfold this year.
Wednesday afternoon, a report surfaced from CBSSports.com’s Gary Parish that five-star Callaway (Jackson, Miss.) guard Malik Newman intends to publicly commit to Mississippi State on Friday.
Newman, who had visits scheduled with Ole Miss and Mississippi State for Wednesday, says he’s still deciding.
“No, I haven’t committed,” Newman told the Gannett-owned Clarion-Ledger. “Right now I’m down to my final four schools – Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kansas and Kentucky.”
RELATED: Elite players make their pitch for Malik Newman to come to their school
Parrish’s report cited “multiple staffs involved in Newman’s recruitment” including two coaches who said Newman to Mississippi State is “done.”
Newman, again, refuted that information.
“When I sit down with my parents, if I think Mississippi State is the right place, then that’s where I’ll pick,” he said. “Like I said, right now I’m down to my final four schools. I don’t really care what the media is saying. I think wherever is the best spot for me is where I’ll pick.”
Last week at practices for the Jordan Brand Classic, Newman told reporters that he plans to only sign scholarship papers with the school he commits to.
Rumors sparked on social media that Newman has already sent his papers in to Mississippi State. His father, Horatio Webster, denied that claim.
“Who the hell would fill it out for him?” Webster said. “The scholarship papers are on the dresser in my house.”
Newman says he still plans to commit during a private ceremony at 1 p.m. ET on Friday. His commitment will be live streamed at http://www.clarionledger.com ↗
I'm sold. Where do I sign up?
Salesmen: USA Today asked several top prep players to give their best sales pitch to Malik Newman. Here's one from Carlton Bragg, at http://ljw.bz/1DCUunn. ↗
From Bragg to Newman: “OK, Malik I’ve been texting you all day anyway but check it out our fan base is crazy, we’re going to Europe in the preseason and how many teams can say that? Plus, we’ve got coach Self, the best coach in the country, and he lets you play your game and be you on the court. Oh and the girls! We’ve got all the girls you could want! And what’s better than playing at the Fieldhouse? I mean c’mon now!”
@drgnslayr I agree. KU's not waiting on Thon, because Bill most likely won't use all the scholarships. I hope that 2 more scholarships are awarded to players we've all been following lately. If Bill signs 2 of Brown, Newman, Diallo, Ingraham, or Maker watch out!
@wissoxfan83 It'd be nice if he'd leave KU out of it if he has no intentions of going to college.
(This is a big) IF I were Thon and wasn't sure of my eligibility I'd go to Europe like Mudiay. Mudiay made 1-1.5 million instead of having crazy women lick his car for a year. Mudiay's projected as a top 5 pick also, so it didn't hurt his draft stock.
@drgnslayr It's the money that is hard to walk away from. In addition to paying much more than Nike was willing to Adidas was willing to outfit all sports (non-revenue producing also). Nike would never do such a thing. I also doubt Nike will pony up more cash as they already own the NCAA, NBA, and any shoe sales report. KU can grab Adidas by the short and curlys, but not Nike they don't need KU.
That being said I'd really like to see what recruits Bill could pull as a Nike guy. Would he have wasted the last couple of years recruiting? Many of those kids are identified as being posible Adidias kids would they switch to Nike? It doesn't sound like Brown would.
@BeddieKU23 The Morri where golden with that entry pass from the top of the key to the block. So was Kaun, Aurthor. Our bigs are small so they can't pass over the D as easily. I also don't think our bigs were good passers. Traylor gets too amped, Lucas has no touch, Mickelson gets no minutes, Cliff was lost. Perry doesn't throw the pass to the blocks often, mainly because the other posts don't know how to hold position (Lucas may figure that out).
Here's one to fuel the Shoe Co. debate (old news but fun)
Antonio Blakeney (No. 15): It looked like Blakeney had ended his recruitment back in early September, when he announced his commitment to Louisville. Less than two weeks later, Blakeney reopened his recruitment and decommitted from the Cardinals. It wasn’t your usual decommitment either. Stories of shoe company involvement quickly spread. Blakeney played AAU ball for Nike-sponsored Each 1 Teach 1, and Louisville is an adidas program. Louisville coach Rick Pitino even criticized the role of shoe companies in the recruiting process. Blakeney maintained that his decommitment was his choice and had nothing to do with shoes. A few months later, Blakeney ended up committing to LSU over fellow finalists Kentucky and Missouri. All three of those finalists were Nike schools.
I know last years team would've been much better with an inside presence. Other than Perry no one showed up late (Cliff was gone) I'd like to think that Hunter and Landon will improve to the point of being quality starters, but that'd be my crimson and blue glasses.
If KU misses on Diallo then Maker could fill a need.
Jaylen Brown (No. 4): With so many guys waiting until late in the process to make a decision, we had to include an uncommitted player, and Brown’s recruitment is the most mysterious. No one outside Brown, and perhaps his family, knows where he will end up. Even coaches involved in his recruitment are completely in the dark. Brown has expanded his list rather than trimmed it in recent months and continues to keep people guessing. Kansas, UCLA, Kentucky, California, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia and Georgia Tech are all still in the mix for Brown, who isn’t giving any hints. Oh, and don’t forget the quotes Brown gave last summer about his ties to adidas. He has essentially shut it down in terms of media access and reportedly will not take any more campus visits or in-home visits. We just have to wait and see for Brown’s decision date -- which, of course, is unknown at this point as well.
@Crimsonorblue22 Dunno HAD works. At this point I seriously doubt Bill uses all the schollies so there's really not much to lose. He could turn into a 2 year player, not likely but stranger things have happened.

Moose!
When I was young I saw a sports illustrated cover with a St. John's player on it. His jersey was wrinkled and obscured the S. I tried to figure out who in the world was playing for Taco John's for awhile.
score?
@JayHawkFanToo I am a mere 6.5 hours from any of the locations! mmm bbq
@JayHawkFanToo I've had the Olathe locations ribs a couple of times, but I've never been in. Back before they had branched out the line was insane. It would always be at least the length of the building and usually started 20 people outside of the door. They shoved people through amazingly fast! Delicious. I wish I could buy bbq that good here. I've got to make it myself and I'm not that good...yet.
In Mission near the state line. It's the classy joint in the back half of a c+. Man that was good bbq! You'd see all the local pro-athletes, tv, radio guys in there. It was fantastic in the '90s and still is, I just don't get it but once in a great while now. :(
Hard to beat Oklahoma Joe's at the original location.
@Statmachine Your picture above about gave me a heart attack. All I saw was the St. John's above Diallo.
@Crimsonorblue22 Love it! Thanks for posting.
@approxinfinity How about that block button, please. Negative Nancy is ruining this site. I come here for fun not to be told how I'm routing for my team wrong.
@HighEliteMajor Last comment directed to you. How about a little talk about the 90% of Bill you like. Or presenting the 10% in a constructive manner. The team lost you can cry about it or get over it like a man and move on. Support your team however you choose, just please direct your negativeness elsewhere. I will try to not ruin your day with my positve feelings about Bill and KU.
@KUinLA Following this guy, yes it is hyperbole

No doubt he's great, but better than Wooden? It's not like K hasn't had talent too.
And I'll ask again, who do you want to replace Bill Self with?
@approxinfinity I'm afraid my system will probably skew towards OADs since they are media darlings. I'll try to score out a few lower ranked guys to see how that goes. Or feel free to check it out yourself I've been finding most of the data at sprorts reference. I'm afraid I'll be busy today until late.
If the numbers don't add up we might give production (points reb assists) more points. I haven't looked at any of the advanced metric stuff as I normally don't, but that could be simpler way of grading the players. WAR or something similiar.
This sucked to put together. I need to go gouge out my eyes now.

@approxinfinity A multi year player will generally have more of an impact on a program than a OAD (melo aside). Should it be weighted? Or just go with the players best season?
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes I am.
@approxinfinity How about 10 points for lottery pick 6 for 1st round 3 for second round. 1 for undrafted free agent pickup.
5 points for a conference championship, 10 points for a final four 15 points national championship.
10 points for top 10 national production in points, rebounds or assists. (This can be skewed by weaker competion)
8 points for leading the confernce in points, rebounds or assists.
5 points for leading the team in points, rebounds or assists.
3 points for 2nd on team in points, rebounds or assists.
20 points for 1st team All America
15 points for 2nd team
10 points for honorable mention
10 points for 1st team conference
5 points for 2nd team conference
10 points for national player of the week
5 points for each player or rookie of the week award in the conference.
Or something much simpler.
I think what we fail to realize is during the time-frame that all the # 20-100 players were signed KU was looking so stacked that Frankamp (top 30 talent) transferred. Kelly Oubre said when he signed he didn't want to play for Cal because he didn't want to be forced into the L after one year. Cliff looked like a two year player also and probably would've been had his eligibility been cleared up. I know if I was a marginally talented player I wouldn't want to walk into that potiental logjam.
@approxinfinity The easiest way to evaluate would be where the players get drafted, that would take our personal subjectivity out of the equation.
Otherwise I'd have to rate Perry Ellis as a better college player than Andrew Wiggins based on overall production and program impact. I'm pretty sure that would start a fight. :)
I'm not really sure how to properly rate the players impact.
@wrwlumpy Do you think the increased pace at the summer games will help during the season? I think it may be an advantage. I'd like to see KU initiate the offense with a sense of urgency early in the shot clock. The weave and passing back and forth up top without swinging the ball from corner to corner doesn't do much for me (or the offense).
@approxinfinity I'm picking Simmons 1-10 Diallo 11-20 Bragg 20-30 Tyler Dorsey 30-40
Of course Bragg is a KU guy so I may have to adjust per your rules and hopefully Diallo will be too!
Diallo had 26pts and 11 reb. in the Jordan Brand Classic tonight. The announcers are right, once he learns to pick his shots better he will be a much more efficient player. He definitely looks like a stud that would look good in Crimson and Blue!
I'd like Scot back around the program. He's a pretty light hearted guy, but loved to get down and dirty in games. You've gotta think that the years in the NBA helped him learn a thing or two also.
@nuleafjhawk Beasley was toxic anyways. I have no idea how he was cleared. 5 high schools and I've heard from KSU fans (for what its worth) that his momma has made a living off of him since he was middle school.
@Statmachine The planes were donated so no payments. Maintence and fuel is very expensive though.
Why wouldn't you want this guy on your team?
“I’m using that last game and the season as my everyday motivation to get better,” Selden said in a release. “I’m happy to come back to Kansas next season. This is a special place.”
Wayne is rated the 21st best sophomore by draft express behind only Monte Morris of ISU in the Big 12. I hope Wayne improves as much as he is capable. 6'5" with a 6'10" wing span, plenty of strength and 2 years of major minutes in the system. Here's hoping for the breakout season that I expected this year.
@HighEliteMajor No. The absolute best talent hasn't always been in Lawerence during that stretch. Durant, Aldridge, Beasley are a few players that come to mind. KU hasn't been picked first in the pre-season in every year which is a pretty good guage of which team the press/coaches feel who is the most talented and Experienced.

@KUinLA Who do you want as KU's coach? Seriously I'm curious who you think would be the ideal canidate to replace Bill Self.
Coach K has been called the best coach ever this year. Hyperbole is all it is, but he's undeniably great. The "best coach ever" lost to Mercer in the first round as a 2 seed.
