jeffborzello Jeff Borzello
Other in-home visits for Brandon Ingram: Kansas tomorrow, NC State on Monday, North Carolina on Wednesday. Working on setting up UCLA.

@KUinLA If all Bill had was 5 star recruits then yes he better be in the final four every year. You forget he doesn't get to choose who comes to KU he has to woo 18 year old boys to come to KU. I personally made an excellent decision to attend KU as an 18 year old. Not all the kids Bill wants will make that decision.

For instance, do you think KU would've gone further in the dance with a center? We've all read about Bill chasing all the top center prospects for the last several years. KU being second choice for Okafor, and Tarc hurt has hurt. I know Bill wants a footer with skills, but one isn't on the roster.

As to your point about Bill making $5 million per year, so is Billy Donavon and Florida didn't even make the dance. Billy Donavon is an excellent coach too. What teacher generates $23 million per year at their job so they can be paid $5million per?

Teachers don't get their due respect always, but if you aren't generating revenue it's difficult to come up with the money in the budget. Esp. with a 660 miliion budget shortfall in KS.

@KUinLA I wish I had had a teacher as good as Bill Self is a coach. I never had a top 10 teacher. Apparently they were all terrible as a few kids even flunked out. Man talk about not winning.

A good coach and a good teacher are the same. You don't turn Forrest Gump into Einstein with good or even perfect teaching. You don't turn Landon Lucas into an all star with a good coach, but you can make him a servicable back up. You help each kid to reach their potiental as a great teacher. You help the team reach its potential as a coach even if that means reigning in a player. A students education doesn't occur in one year. A team doesn't reach it's potiental in one season of playing in a system.

I'm not sure KU didn't reach it's one year potiental the last two seasons with the healthy and eligible players that were left at the end of the season. I feel like the long term potiental was far greater than the one year potiental. Next season the players that have been around will be better. Hopefully only limited minutes are to be given to freshman.

@KUinLA Or maybe the players didn't execute. I thought the offense was terrible all year because guys were out of position. Once a second competent post player is added the team will look much better.

It seemed to me Mason played poorly in 2-3 games at the end of the season all losses. When that happened the wheels really came off. That tells me the team was on a razors edge. They could've easily had 15-16 losses if it weren't for good coaching. I also think these extra wins Bill coaches them to gets the Jayhawks a seed higher than they probably deserve and that's why you see "underperformance" in the dance.

Paying For Shaka Now β€’ Apr 16, 2015 01:14 PM

@ralster I do the same, well less the Viper of course. We are able to attend one to two games a year, so I don't mind paying $500 for center court first 10 rows. There are a few people here that have nice season tickets. The best are 1st or 2nd row dead center at half court. Unfortunately I haven't been able to sit there! My little brother did 5 years ago, I'm so glad he got to go to Allen Fieldhouse once in his life. He was a huge fan.

Recruiting Rumors β€’ Apr 16, 2015 01:06 PM

@BeddieKU23 It wouldn't hurt to have more depth everywhere for '16-17. You are right a big is a more pressing need as they seem to take longer to develop and are integral to the hi-low.

KU pride β€’ Apr 16, 2015 04:12 AM

@JayhawkRock78 Looks like I'm on about the same time-line as you with the kids. I'm 36 with a five year old boy and one (as he says a brother or a sister) on the way.

What sports did you play in HS? Any in college? I didn't have a great opportunity to play bball in HS. I switched from the local HS (placed 4th, 1st, 4th, and didn't make state) to a christian school with 8 highschool students total. We did have an area team. We were absolutely terrible and only won one game my Jr. year. I wish I could say I was an athlete, but I'm not, I gave effort but didn't understand the game.

I went from thoroughly warming the bench at the public school to playing every minute at the christian school. One tournament we went to had 2 regulation games back-to-back with a 2 hour wait until a third game. Most of the teams were from the Denver area and they made us look sad.

In the middle of the final game I stole the ball and made it to half court before both my legs cramped to the point of dropping me to the floor. I kicked the ball to one of our better players to watch him miss an unguarded layup. aargh.

Hopefully I can give my kid a little help in the sports department and get him involved sooner. My folks didn't watch sports at all until I got them hooked on KU b-ball after I came home from college. I think as long as he's around the game and is given a base understanding he'll struggle less than I did. Assuming he wants to play, I would never force him.

KU pride β€’ Apr 16, 2015 03:23 AM

@JayhawkRock78 It's a 6 hour drive to Allen Fieldhouse from my house. Generally if I'm going to a basketball game I want to go to Mecca. The Big12 tournament was fun, but Allen Fieldhouse is the best! I just have a hard time shelling out hard earned cash to go watch a ball game anywhere but in the best venue in the WORLD. Once you go there everywhere else pales in comparison. Could be my crimson and blue tinted glasses though.

Who is in your avatar picture? You mentione the boy scouts in another post. Did you finish? I was able to attain Eagle scout rank myself. You are right it is a fantastic organization, especiallly here when I was in it. If you have a good scout master it is a blast and you learn without realizing it.

KU pride β€’ Apr 16, 2015 01:03 AM

@JayhawkRock78 I haven't had the fortune to attend a NCAA game. The Big12 tournament three years ago (KU win!) are the only postseason games I've been to. I should've went to the NC game in Texas, but...

KU pride β€’ Apr 15, 2015 09:27 PM

@JayhawkRock78 Oh good, I'm not losing it. :)

KU pride β€’ Apr 15, 2015 09:23 PM

@JayhawkRock78 Sorry, I may have mis-remembered or misinterpreted what you said (or someone else). My memory is not idenic and for that I am thankful.

Here's your quote,"And that is all I have in my den, Our Big 8 championships for track.. just 1988 and 2008 basketball framed pics from Sports Illustrated.. No final four stuff at all, but I am very cool with them in the Allen Fieldhouse rafters"

Haha, apparently I value final fours more than you!

KU pride β€’ Apr 15, 2015 09:08 PM

@Lulufulu I'd love to see your collection too!

KU pride β€’ Apr 15, 2015 09:03 PM

@JayhawkRock78 That's one difference, but it is also the same as 3 of the others in another aspect.

I hear you have a signed '88 bball, I'm jealous. Would you be so kind as to post a picture of it here? I'm proud of the teams that win their region in the NCAA also.

@JayHawkFanToo A little bit. He shouldn't have said that on air, even if there's truth to it it's too touchy. Slaves often weren't treated as people, but more like cattle. It's terrible and I'm glad I didn't have to live through that era. The modern world with very few slaves (outside of NIKE factories) is much better than it's ever been in man's history.

Recruiting Rumors β€’ Apr 15, 2015 05:41 PM

From KUSport.com

Atlantic 10 Conference rookie of the year Eric Paschall of Fordham, who is considering a transfer, has cut his list to KU, Providence, Florida and Villanova, as well as Fordham, he announced on Twitter.

The 6-foot-6 Paschall averaged 15.9 points off 41.9 percent shooting (45 of 143 threes for 31.5 percent) and 5.5 rebounds a game his freshman season. He announced plans to explore all options March 24 after Fordham fired coach Tom Pecora. He would have to sit out next season and be eligible to play in 2016-17.

Paschall has visited Villanova and Florida and will visit Providence this weekend, CBSsports.com reports. He was an unranked three-star player coming out of Dobbs Ferry (New York) High. KU director of student-athlete development Fred Quartlebaum played collegiately at Fordham and is a native of Dobbs Ferry, New York.

@wissoxfan83 Yes, Perry is fantastic. And Landon is a body down low. Unfortunately White had less impact on the team than Connor Frankamp. I had high hopes for White. I still love his work ethic.

Recruiting Rumors β€’ Apr 15, 2015 04:25 PM

I hope Diallo hurrys up and signs. It would be great for Self to know how hard he needs to pursue these other bigs. I just don't want another Braedon Anderson, Landon Lucas, 'Rio Adams class.

Recruiting Rumors β€’ Apr 15, 2015 04:17 PM

George leaves his feet too much for a footer. He'll foul out in the NCAA unless he gets coached up. Looks like he's got potiental though.

@ParisHawk Absolutely NO side-effects have ever been proven to occur from eating GMO food. If one single scientific report came out and said it was in the least bit unhealthy all GMOs would be jerked off the shelves so fast its ridiculous.

The GMOs out there are limited in corn over 90% is GMO in the US. Most is just the addition of the Roundup gene. About 40% contains the Bt gene in some form. Bt is a naturally occuring bacteria that attacks the mid-gut of worms.

Soybeans are closer to 100% GMO in the US with the Roundup gene being the main culprit. Next year soybeans will have a Banvel and 2,4-D trait added in some varieties to help battle weed resistance.

About half of Canola is Roundup ready in the US.

I believe there are Roundup ready sugar beets also.

The thing most people don't realize is that Indians have bred corn (more or less what is being done with genetics dual haploid breeding etc. currently in a few years) over thousands of years to go from a grass with black berries on the top. Now corn is a grass plant with yellow grain on ears in the middle of the plant.

Unfortunately the UN-science of ignorant people persists myths of GMO food issues. Take away GMO corn and instead of rich people complaining about GMO's it will be poor people starving instead. The good about that is poor people are rarely in the media, so we won't have to see the suffering without a little effort.

@drgnslayr Football is the most popular US sport for a reason. It is also the reason commonly sited as a reason why we are so good at war. Football tactics and war go hand in hand.

I'm hearing Cheick Diallo to Kansas??? β€’ Apr 15, 2015 03:20 PM

@Statmachine I hope you are right about Cal loosing his luster. He does have the #1 recruiting class again though. If UK adds Newman it will stay the #1 class. If Bill adds Diallo and Ingram to Bragg this class will be top 5 also. Maybe #2 if four stud freshman sign.

Sounds like something slave owners did.

Paying For Shaka Now β€’ Apr 15, 2015 03:53 AM

Man, Texas tickets are cheap. I spent more on two tickets to Embiids first KU game than season tickets to Texas (Less the $2500 donation of course)

What's it take at KU to get good seats? About a $100,000 donation and $1200 per season ticket. I think a 15K donation will probably get you out of the corner bleachers.

I'm hearing Cheick Diallo to Kansas??? β€’ Apr 15, 2015 03:35 AM

@drgnslayr When Taylor catches the ball in the key and drives down the lane it scares and excites me everytime. It scares me because it's Traylor. It excites me because I can see a player like Bragg or Diallo killing it with that move.

Any chance for Brown or Newman? Doesn't look too promising from where I sit.

I'm hearing Cheick Diallo to Kansas??? β€’ Apr 15, 2015 01:50 AM

@Statmachine My concern on Ingram is that most of the schools on his list are in his home state of North Carolina. I thought he was Roy's to lose with KU in second. I really like what I'm hearing about him though. I hope he realizes that KU is the place for him!

KU pride β€’ Apr 15, 2015 01:46 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks. Anytime you or any of the buckets crew are in SW Kansas swing by.

I know a guy who gets autos after the games. I got the basketballs from KUStore.com Except the '07-'08 I had to pay a guy an arm and a leg to get that one last year. The rest I found on-line in shops or on e-bay. I get PSAs opinion on most of the autos to make sure they are legit, but you can spot most fakes.

The pic of Chalmers was given to me by my father in-law. He knew the photographer and she kinda knows Bill Self. When Bill saw the picture he said to bring a stack by for him to sign for her. Pretty awesome, coach!

@Crimsonorblue22 Hahaha. Poor guy. I just thought he was slow with poor footwork. Turns out he was hurting too.

Seriously, I thought his D picked up quite a bit this season. When he was making shots he was hustling more on D. too. I just hope he can keep improving his handle and defense so he can stay on the court longer.

Here's one that also has been a 6 year project:

!image.jpg β†—

I guess I'm confused why Coach Selfs words could mess up Brannen's head to the point he couldn't shoot, but a concussion doesn't affect his head?!?

Free-throws are all muscle memory, but you must adjust on field goal attempts. BG was still golden on the FT stripe. His three ball went down the crapper though. I can't decide if it was mental (coaches doing - not likely or concussion) or physical (bone spurs). No jumping on free throws so that could factor in also.

By all accounts BG is thick headed and stubborn so a "fools gold comment" is unlikely to stick in his craw. Did this de-rail him?

A progressively worsening bone spur would most likely cause a tapper off and not the precipitous drop off we saw. That is unless the pain hit a threshold he couldn't handle any more. It didn't appear that he was in that much pain, so more likely the pain was causing him to change his motion more subtly.

A concussion affects people differently depending on severity and a multitude of factors we don't fully understand. It is possible that a concussion messing with his head and bone spurs messing with his form added up to a huge drop off in shooting percentage.

@drgnslayr This is from the Brannen Greene hip article β†— in KUSports.com today

Summer exhibitions: Self revealed that KU’s World University Games team would play a pair of exhibition contests against the Canadian National Team this summer in Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. It would be the week before the Jayhawks head to South Korea for the Games, which run July 3-14.

β€œJust because Allen Fieldhouse is not air-conditioned,” Self said of playing in KC. β€œIt’d be hard to play a summertime game in Allen if you are able to put some people in there. It’d probably be pretty miserable. We plan on doing that the week leading up to the tour. Nothing is finalized.”

KU is allowed 12 players on its World Games roster. Svi Mykhailiuk (Ukraine) cannot play for the KU/U.S. team. If Self needs to fill out the roster, he cannot add any former KU players now in the NBA because their participation is against the NBA collective-bargaining agreement.

β€œIt looks like all our ex-players in a development-league-type situation are too old,” Self said. β€œA Tyshawn (Taylor), Elijah (Johnson), Travis (Releford), they are all too old. They all turn 25 before Jan. 1. You can’t turn 25 before Jan. 1. I could possibly go try to get a guy from another school, somebody fighting to try to find his way just to fill a spot. We’re going to wait and see how many guys we have, who we sign. If we get another international player, he can’t go. Numbers may be such we may need to get a guy or two.”

I though this would be a good place for people to show off their KU pride!

I've been working on my man cave for the last 5 years. It is finally nearing a point of completion. For the last 20 years or so I've been collecting KU memorabilia and autos. I'd like to share a few pictures of my completed basement with you all. It's not 100% KU as I do have a couple of other interestes, but it's not a place that a mizzou fan would feel comfortable. :)

Please put any pictures of your KU paraphanellia here! I'll start putting pics of the man cave this evening when I get home from work. Remember this is a wholesome KU thread when posting pictures.

Perry's Back! β€’ Apr 14, 2015 02:42 PM

I was excited to see SJ pick up a big to help push Diallo to KU, but the guy (Sima?) is ranked 177. That is lower than Landon Lucas. I hope the sigining is a sign that SJ is looking elsewhere, but I don't think the kid will push Diallo away.

I'm taking it as a major positive indication though.

@REHawk said:

@dylans I care. Those are our Jayhawks which were chosen to represent the USA. If we finish 9th, as have a couple of other "USA" teams in recent years, then it goes down as FAILURE!

You and I are in the group of KU fans I mentioned who care. The games do not count though is my point. The usuall Bill Self win at all costs is not a good way to go about this tournament. This is PRE-SEASON ball and the games count less than a local pickup game. The practice is important. The team chemistry building is important.

If KU takes 9th place, but learns how to play as a team and plays up to their potiental the following season(regardless of a National Title or not) then the games where a resounding success. If KU takes 9th and makes no improvement then this was a horrible waste of time and money. If KU wins the tournament and doesn't improve (not likely) it is also a waste of time 'cause these guys are going to burn out playing such a long season.

These games are a chance for the team to come together and for the freshman (hopefully freshmen) to catch up. Winning is nice, but not important at this tournament depending on how you win or loose. A bunch of close losses at the buzzer would be bad too. A bunch of blowout losses would be bad for confidence.

This is Bill's chance to tinker with the line-ups and give guys minutes that may not get minutes when the games count. Think about how much better Svi could've been last year if given the same opportunity.

You are correct I though NBA players could play. Just D- League guys like Travis, Tyshawn, or international guys like Kevin Young can play.

Royals in 15-16 β€’ Apr 14, 2015 02:09 PM

It was '93 I was going to be a freshman in HS. That fight really left an impression on me. Watching it again is great too. Don't mess with a grizzled veteran, rookie.

@BeddieKU23 Good I don't want Cliff anywhere near the team. He will in no way shape or form help KU win a national championship next year. I wish him the best in the league.

Why loss games? Go get NBA hawks to fill the roster. I'll tell you why, these games don't matter. No one cares about the outcome. The winner doesn't even care. It's all about experience and getting our guys better for next year. Getting our guys extra practice and playing time is all that matters. They just need to go to the games and play hard. The outcome of the games isn't that important.

So with games that no one will watch or care about (besides us KU fans) why waste time on players who won't be here next season?

I was watching that game. It sealed the deal for me. Nolan Ryan is still my favorite pitcher.

@Lulufulu Bill blamed his shooting slump on his concussion, but I've got to think the bone spurs in his hip didn't help.
