@HighEliteMajor āWhite privilege is a myth for black people to be lazyā one of my best friends who grew up in the same shitty neighborhood as me who is black. Donāt get me started on the laughable bs that is white privilege, when I lived on the shit side of town the common denominator was single parents not race. The funniest thing to me thinking back to those days was my mom worked 2 jobs, as a bank teller til mid afternoon then JcPenny til 10 but my as formly mentioned my black friends mom didnāt work but when he stayed the night at my house weād always go raid his house for snacks because they had way more food than we ever had, shoot they also had hot water (it sucks to boil water on the stove and dump into the bath tub if you didnāt wanna freeze in the winter). One of my other best friends is 1/4 Hispanic, he went to the same college as me but at half the price because he got a minority scholarship (we actually joke about it because he doesnt look Hispanic at all, in fact heās whiter than a ghost). But some how Iām the only one in this group that is privileged. Now racism unfortunately does still exist and it aināt just a black deal but thatās another issue. In terms of politics, Democrats are lying bastards but so are republicans. The media twists what actually happened to make their side look better regardless of the side.
@justanotherfan great idea except Brucie would never agree to play another known team in the Noncon.
@dylans exactly, he wasnāt effective so the guys wanted LL to get more minutes. The rest is history, no knock on Hunter tho, he was a good dude.
@justanotherfan on paper we should be much improved on both sides of the ball. Returning 9 starters on offense and defense, but I honestly donāt trust this staffs ability to develop players.
@tis4tim PHOF
I donāt think this is a surprise to most of us with Vick coming back, even without Vick I didnāt think heād be a main player. I respect his decision and wish him well, as stated you know when you come to Kansas youāre gonna have to fight for PT all while being recruited over. @Fightsongwriter I think Sam is a great athlete, just hasnāt turned into a ball player to this point. You could argue that Sam never got his shot to shine, playing mop up minutes mainly but Hunter started nearly half the season and didnāt pan out. I donāt think their is a ton more to that story.
Gonna take a stab here at whom I believe will start across the line this season for Kansas. Iāll start with Center- Alex Fontana, transfered in from Houston. He started 5 games and saw action in 11 in 2016 after missing all of 2017 with an injury. With Mesa forced to retire after concussion issues hes probably a safe bet to win this job. Right Guard- Chris Hughes didnāt have a start a year ago but has come along very well as a sophomore. Left Guard- Andru Tovi, has great size and started several games here LY, was giving snaps as a center during the spring but didnāt seem to promising at that spot. Right Tackle- Clyde McCauley, another guy with good size and experience, was forced into starting 3 games ago at left tackle due to injuries. Left Tackle- Hakeem Adeniji, has been one of our best offensive lineman since stepping on campus in 2016 has made starts at several positions across the line in his time here. Is a little bit undersized at 6ā3 300 but I believe he has a shot at the next level, played most of last year win both shoulders injured but still graded out as our best lineman. Everyone on this line has played plenty of snaps here outside of Fontana who played plenty for Houston in 2016. Looking at the experience level and the size of some of these guys, this group who also added OSU transfer Kevin Feder has at least a reasonable chance of being the best line we have had since 2009 or 10. Its still up air on who starts at QB but we have several talented RBs and WRs that can make plays if the line does their job first.
Interesting that the Kings have just signed Yogi Ferrel, my guess is theyāll see whoās better between him and Frank, then trade the less player kinda like what they did Will Hill last year.
@KUSTEVE Ya my wife went on it several years ago and said it seemed pretty shady back then. I just canāt believe they had no idea weather was coming in, Ik storms brew up quick here in the Midwest but wasnāt that the same storm that blew thru Topeka? Prayers to all effected by it.
@KUSTEVE Great news, congratulations to Marcus!
@nuleafjhawk Letās not go that far.
@DanR way to think positive lol
Thankfully you and your dog are ok. I had a friend in similar situation a few years ago where the cops chased a suspect thru his back yard and they shot his dog, which killed it. He tried to fight them in court but letās face it, you canāt win that battle unless you have hard video evidence and even that isnāt enough in most cases. Not to sound ani police, I believe each situation is different but nonetheless not a fun day Iām sure.
I really think the kings organization is a joke but hey they have some Jayhawks so I pay attention. I honestly think watching Bmac, that he could be a great scorer in this league if put on the right team. Thatās one of my main issues with the NBA, so many of these teams have one guy like a Kobe (Ik he retired) or Westbrook that just shoots the ball 35 times a game and the team goes as he shoots. Especially with some of the lower level clubs.
Lakers down by 17 at the half to Portland in the summer league title. Svi and the lakers are struggling offensively with 33 points while Svi is 0 for 5 from distance and the lakers have yet to make a 3.
Is this about Kentucky of Dook?
Him and Hart played great tonight, Svi 6 for 11 from downtown. Hart had 37 but took 28 shots to get it while Svi only took 20 to get his 31. If he can keep this up, he will be playing good minutes off the bench next season.
@KUSTEVE Boom!
Marcus Smart shots it almost as bad as JJ and he has solid footing in the league because of defense. JJ can follow that same path or work like a mad man on his shot. I think youāll see his shot improve over the next few seasons.
Also sounds like both Bragg and Martin could have the chance to be grad transfers like Hartzog or transfer down to a lower level to play right away if they donāt have the credits. I wish them luck but if you canāt make the 2 deep at Kansas, which I doubt any of these guys would have, your gonna have trouble playing for a D1 team. That being said best of luck to these guys in whatever they decide to do, I donāt blame for not wanting to ride the pine so late in their careers. Edit: Bragg is a injury issue as well according to LJW.
@JayHawkFanToo Not surprising, MartĆn was the worst of our running backs and probably wouldnāt have seen the field baring injuries a whole lot. Tabor was a guy I was super excited about but sounds like his back will prevent him from playing again, which is a tough deal for him. Bragg is a guy that has the size and potential to be good but everytime heās been giving a chance he has been one of our worst linemen, that coupled with some of the juco and grad transfer we just landed probably meant not playing time for him ether. The other kid was someone Iāve never heard of, obviously losing guys is never good but I donāt see any of these as a big loss to us.
@JayHawkFanToo Iām saying Iād would have rather never won the orange bowl and not had Lou than have our football program in itās current state.
@JayHawkFanToo It one bowl game rather have won a good bowl that wasnāt BCS than be in the state we are currently in.
@Woodrow My thoughts on the matter, we also got the grad transfer from (Feder) OSU as well. We obviously know how well Baldwin worked out from Bama but these guys actually have been at good programs for a few years and have played. With who we return on offense if the line can be average along with the QB we may have a chance to compete for wins. Last year we lost every game by double digits and only the KSU game was still a game in the 4th quarter.
6 foot 305 pound Alex Fontana has been added to the Kansas roster as a graduate transfer from Houston. He didnāt play last year due to an injury but saw 5 starts the previous year at center, he also has experience at the guard spots. Sounds like he will have 2 years of eligibility left to play. The offense line has got to be the most improved unit on the field this coming season for the Jayhawks to compete. Looks like Beaty is pulling out all the stops at this point.
That and you donāt see me putting political post on here all time. I think a seldom post on the subject for people with common sense is hardly rambling on and on but hey whatever your think buddy.
@jaybate-1.0 well it is the politics and world affairs section but I think our definition of going on and on about something varies by a lot.
The investigation will never stop, the hypocrisy of politics these days insane. I wish people would just find better things to do with there time than go and on about politics. Trump is the president whether you like it or not Iād be surprised if anything is done to change that before the next elections. Itās the same with Clintonās emails, the investigation will probably never stop.
I probably am 50/50 on jaybate1.0, he has his moments that are funny and good posts. But there definitely are some posts that worry me from a mental stand point if he is ok. That being said it doesnāt really matter to me, if I donāt like it, wonāt comment or read all of it. Iāve always said Iām fine to agree to disagree with anyone. Just my 2 cents on the matter
Sweet Lou as l call him a terrible human being on all fronts and was the absolute worst hire in not only KU history but WSU as well. Sadly I hear heās still around Lawrence, man if I ran into it would be tempting to beat the daylights outta him. My booster friend have always stated Mangino had dirt on Sweet Lou for his role in the ticket scandal and stealing the exercise equipment. He did everything he could to turn the university against Mangino, using stuff from years before the orange bowl that they had been documented for years. If they wanted to fire him they could have in 06 after missing a bowl at 6-6 after blowing several games they should have won. Then you have the most laughable contract in history he got Gill before he left as a slap in the face on the way out the door. Sweet Lou crippled KUs football program and looks as if we another 4 years and coach from being respectable. People give him way way too much credit for the Orange Bowl and NC season. He didnāt hire those coaches and didnāt coach, he reaped the rewards of others work is what he did.
Draft picks have been laughable and the beginning of the end started with resigning Gordon for way too much money. They couldāve kept a good chunk of the WS team together had they not done that. Iām a fan of Gordon but heās easily replaced IMO.
Sounds like Long has taken the high road with Coach Beaty at this point calling for support. I agree with it, it would be rather silly to fire a Coach right before camp starts and would likely not do any favors for a season that already looks dim. I think you could see him let go if he isnāt able to win the first 2 games. If he can manage that I believe Long will give him the rest of the year to prove his worth. Iāve never been a fan of firing coaches in the middle of the season especially when the next hire most likely isnāt coming current staff. Our season ends on thanksgiving or most likely, meaning most coaches are still coaching and there isnāt any reason to fire him before that date excluding a lose to Nichols State. Some say firing early helps get names together and what not. I guess I have no idea why Long couldnāt start the process with a few weeks to go even with Beaty still there.
Goodness this thread took a turn I didnāt see coming. Wow I think basketball season needs to hurry up so we can atleast argue about something worth talking about lol. Iām not a yanks fan as stated, Iām an avid royals fan when they actually field a major league team. Sometimes I think we all just like to argue.
Thatās why I laugh at the Yankees and their fans. For the all star team that they field every season only having 2 titles since the millennium and 5 since 78. Now that would be good most other franchises but for a team that yields the best player in the game at several spots and has for years its laughable that they ever miss the playoffs.
@KUSTEVE I agree, it would just be interesting to a guy that got the AD fired from his last gig come in to his new gig. I have no doubt he's a better than what we have had since MM was here.
@KUSTEVE Bielema also ticked off some Texas hs coaches talking of how the spread doesnāt work and you need a fullback but he also spanked the daylights outta KSU and Snyder in the liberty bowl a few years back. I think heās a better coach than anyone we have had in my lifetime not named Mangino or Mason.
Plenty have questioned if Long was the right guy to hire, some wanted Parker from CSU. I think Long was probably the best we were able to get. Long has experience which IMO is a good thing, doesnāt mean he didnāt make his mistakes like Giving Bielema a extension. I donāt think hiring Bielema was a mistake because of his record at Wisconsin, on paper it was a great hire and just didnāt workout. Hiring Patrino I donāt think goes as all bad on him, yes he was rumored to be a little in left field but hell his own wife had no knowledge of his cheating and shanigans, not surprised that his boss didnāt. Iād be ok a scandal like that over Baylorās any day not that I want any scandal. Experience is big, Zenger had very little of this and used his football background with his used car salesman approach to get on at KU. Respect, the fact that Long is well respected in the college athletics world probably means that he has a pretty good idea of what heās doing and heās a decent guy. The world of collegiate sports can be very cut throat at times and having someone thatās been in the game that long (no pun intended lol) that doesnāt have people throwing shade at him on a mainstream level is positive. Connections, I am one of the many people that believe the B12 is all but done after the current media contract is up in 2022 (I believe). Having connections from being around a long time could be huge in terms of finding a conference home outside of the Mountain West or American if the B12 does come crashing down. Those same connections and relationships build with coaches like Bob Stoops, Brent Ventables, Dave Wannstedt and Les Miles could come in handy finding a new coach for the laughing stock of D1 football. Now Iām not saying he could talk any of the mentioned names into coming to town (I would be unbelievablely excited) but having there input on whoās the next big guy that needs a break or who they believe would fit could pay off if has that type relationship with really any of those guys.
@Texas-Hawk-10 100% agree hopefully our athletic department does too. If we can get a hot name, it will help keep guys from transferring as well. Hull is about the only coach Iād like to see kept on this staff. Bowen maybe as a DB coach, I actually think heās decent at that.
@BShark I canāt wait til one of this men that had a rough upbringing knock, the daylights outta him. He aināt that good of player to start with.
Ventables, I agree but would we be able to pay him enough to consider the job? If Iām not mistaken he is one of the highest if not the highest paid assistant in CFB, 1.7 million a year. Thatās a ton of money for a guy that isnāt gonna get near the heat of a head coach after a loss. I donāt think heāll end up at KSU, my KSU sources said that ship sailed years ago when he was messing about with a high profile boosters daughter.
Everyone calm down, letās not get the thread locked.
Obviously Beaty is sitting on a ticking time bomb unless the unthinkable happens and KU gets to a bowl game. Long supposedly has strong ties to Les Miles, Brady Hoke and Brent Ventables. Does anyone think we could land Miles or Ventables, man that would get the fan base going and the new stadium.
I think itās a great hire, if you look back I posted that I think thought he was one the better guys that could come. I wouldāve been fine with Parker from CSU but he hasnāt done anything great, he raised money for a new stadium for a program that hasnāt been great since McElwain left a fairly decent roster to. In regards to Petrino, Long hired a great coach but a guy that cheated on his wife (not right but recent studies show nearly have the married couples in the country are unfaithful). Time will tell if this was a good or bad move, tons of people thought Charlie Weis was a great hire and the Bill Self was a terrible hire. I know we got a guy unlike Zenger, who only had a few years at a small school (Illinois State). Zenger was a used car sales man with hair slicked back thatās all he was.
@nwhawkfan Interesting, Iāve never been west of Colorado but I think the the thick trees of north west would be beautiful. On the other hand me being from a town of 600 people, I canāt stand traffic or bass bumping all hours of the night like you get in the city. If I ever get to retire (lunch break on the day of my funeral the way itās going). Iād like to travel to the northwest, northeast and maybe by then the country wonāt be divided and I can enjoy seeing it with own eyes. Some days itās like Iām running outta time with the world the way it is, Iām only 30 but Iāve never seen the ocean, been to an amusement park or even on an actual vacation. Guess I got a little deep lol.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Iām not saying our lines good enough to run any offense, just saying to it got its start in football to help teams that didnāt have great lines.
I agree with @JayHawkFanToo , LeBron has a lifetime contract that probably has loyalty tied in with it. That doesnāt mean there is no way to get outta of it but reports said the deal was worth more than 1 billion dollars so I doubt Puma can keep up with Nike in a bidding war. Interesting enough I did read way back when LeBron signed with Nike that he liked Adidas better and would have signed if they matched Nikeās offer.
Kendrick, RUN THE OPTION! The option is designed for teams with weak offensive lines and good running
backs and a running QB.
I think Lonzo could be a good player at some point if he improves his shooting 30% from 3, 36% from the floor and 45% from the line.
@JayHawkFanToo If LeBron wants him gone, I'll bet he's gone but who knows if he actually does?
Lopez is the guy they need gone espeically after signing McGee, Lopez's contract is second to Lebrons and he's an average role player at best. I'd be shocked to see him back in the finals as I said earlier. Also Stephenson's deal is just for one year, if they don't do much he may not stay.
