I tell you guys idk if I've seen defense this bad letting up over 40 at home in half to a team that averages 75 against 344 SOS. We will not win the B12 guarding like this.

@wrwlumpy I think that's a safe bet but we have a ways to go for sure. Both players really take over late when the game is on the line. I thought Id do some stats between the two. Hart's averages are 20.3 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.4 spg, and 1.6 turns, while shooting 56% from the floor and 40% from 3. Franks are 19.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 6 apg, 1.4 spg and 2.2 turnovers, he's shooting 54% from the floor and 48% from 3. Pretty close.
Its interesting to me how high KSU is ranked on Kenpom and RPI. Kenpom has them at #33, with good adjusted defense at #33 in that as well (not surprising), but its crazy to me for the to be that high ranking with 344 in SOS. RPI has them at #62 with an SOS of 284. They are 211th in rebounding, 143rd in points at 75.5 per game, only good stat is again defense allowing just 59 PPG ranked 7th there. They aren't a great shooting team from the floor or 3, which is surprising looking at the NAIA level of schedule they have played. They shot it terrible vs Texas (36%, 25% from 3) but 33 FTs to 12 was the difference in that one. Weber said in his press that they would go inside quite a bit because we don't have any size, which I don't know that I agree with Svi at 6'8, JJ 6'6, Vick at 6'5 and we could always go to a line up with both bigs and 6'10 Bragg. Self called them one of the most improved teams in the land. I'm not sure about that, I know coach likes to be nice and professional but they are going to have to beat someone at least decent (best win is #109 rpi Omaha @ home) before I say they are any other than better than the joke they were a year ago. Its really strength vs strength, I say its a race to 65 points if much more is scored I say its outta reach on the road for KSU. If we shoot well its prob a route, I'll go KU 78 KSU 62.

I think OSU could play Baylor tight and TT could give WVU trouble. The road isn't easy in the B12. What I love about early conference games is if you win your gaining ground on someone we shouldn't be tested til Ames IMO. Not that it matters one game at time KSU is next in line.
@JayHawkFanToo I did miss read it but still see no way they finish fourth IMO needed home cooking (shot nearly 3 times the FTs texas did) and still barely beat the likely 9th or 10th team in the league at home.

Welcome back @HighEliteMajor , I would agree minute for minute his numbers are decent just needs to break out a few times. Friday he had 9 rebounds in 16 minutes, just didnt finish at the rim the way he is capable.

I think WVU smoking OSU was really the only surprise as OU has looked terrible and also they didn't have Woodard. I say it ends like this: KU, WVU, Baylor, ISU, OSU, TCU, KSU, OU, TT and Texas. The biggest concern for us is defense we have to improve against the dribble drive. WVUs press should be easily broken bye a 4 guard team but we always struggle against tho we have seen it many times now. Baylor and Drew have been smart enough not to run that gimicy zone 24/7 which makes that an interesting game with us.
JR was fun to watch but had issues I'd say we didn't really miss him because Rush showed up the next year. I think we really missed Padgett, he was a solid big. Giles had a high ceiling but was troubling, anyone remember him scoring for the other team off a missed free throw. We also lost Omar Wilkes to transfer who was apart of the "KU fab five" ended up joke with downs and others. Also we had the galindo kid that left that I never really heard anything else about.
A 6'10 transfer from liberty with two years of eligibility left has announced he will leave the program after thanking HCBS. I think grades had a big play in this as Self said he didn't have the semester they expected. That and pt with the signing of Preston, Bragg most likely returning along with Mitch and doke. I honestly thought it was a waste to start with, he looks like a walk-on type of player just has size.
@BShark Ya which worries me, we know we cant have anymore injuries or a lot of foul trouble or we go down. I'm not a betting man but Bragg and LL will be in foul trouble more than once before the season is up. That's why I hoped mitch got some more PT hopefully he gets some against the mildcats.

Anyone else think it was strange that Mitch didn't get in whatsoever, I realize we were never in foul trouble outside of JJ but still figured he get a minute of two.

@HawkChamp That's pretty much what I was getting to, A rim protector helps a ton when your guards cant keep their man outta the lane, doesn't mean that it is a must to win a NC. Landen isn't a great post defender, he is okay but slow and when you help time after time that hurts. The defense as whole needs a lot of work. We used to do what was called shell drill and it focuses on where you should be when the ball is reversed and who is supposed to help. I would spend hours on this the next few days if I was coaching( I'm self has a plan). Also that's why I said JJ is human no need to worry at this point, just hope he doesn't turn in wiggins with 3 points one game and 30 the next.
@BShark Ya I think they could surprise some people for sure. I see things from a coaching stand point as I did it for a number of years. I think the B12 has 3 teams that can win against anyone, any given day in KU, WVU and Baylor. I would say Texas and OU are the bottom feeders but 4th-8th could be anyone in the league. I think TCU gets in as the 6th and final B12 team at this point.
KU escaped Fort Worth with a 86-80 win. I thought we started off right where we left Vegas icy cold and with little energy. We really shot the ball terrible outside of an 8 minute stretch in the first half, started 1 for 13 and 38% in the second half, finished at 43%. I'm not sure coming out flat was a surprise outta the holiday break being on the road, but I expected us to take control in the second half and we flat didn't and let them hang around. We had an edge on the glass bye 7 at half time and ended up tied with 39 a piece with them and giving up 12 offensive rebounds which is too many. The defense continues to be suspect, we over purse and over help about 20 times a game leading to open dunks and layups. The lack of a rim protector and a solid post defense, yes I know LL had a good game and I'm excited about it, but we have now given up career days for I believe 4 bigs that we have faced and none of which are probably Lottery picks. I've said this before and I'll say it again we look like a Roy Williams team, to win we have to out score the opponent. I really liked what I saw from Vick and Svi (besides that ridiculous pass late), they hit open shots and played well. DG struggled badly from the floor(3/14) and was beaten often on defense. Mason did what Mason does bye getting to the hoop and creating shots for everyone and FTs for himself. LL was great, man if he can play like that on a consistent basis it would be a big help inside, but TCU is small so I'm not gonna get too far ahead of myself. Bragg had a decent line of 5 points and 9 rebounds in 16 minutes, he just has to finish around the rim and catch the ball then he would have more points. Well JJ is human lol. He had a bad game hopefully it was just first B12 game jitters. The most disappointing thing from him to me was he never got after the glass or on floor after loose balls like he normally does baring one play. The slamming the ball down T cant happen, I know hes young but you have to keep your head on straight, we will need him on the floor to win this league. The best things I saw was good FT shooting for the first since Indiana and the stat that won us the game, creating turnovers, in way, seemed like they had a ton of travels unforced.
As if we didn't see enough purple we got KSU on Tuesday.

Some numbers here, Frank with 12 as well as Vick. We are leading on the glass 21 to 14 while shooting 50% from the field which is impressive considering starting 1 for 13. Giving up 48% shooting which has to improve as well as giving up 13 foul shots for us to win.

This time of the year stinks we have 14 days with 2 games. But good for the players to go home and relax for the holidays. Once conference season gets going we will have 3 games in 7 days several times.

@dylans yes! until Texas A&M in 07 a big 12 south team had never won in AFH. So i bet it would've worked out fine for us.
@wissox yes our game was better because it was back and fourth. Wasn't a comeback, but a battle thru out.
I honestly don't think the Nova UNC game was better but I understand why its number 1, the OU game is easily one of the best games I've ever seen and I've watched literally thousands. Kinda like how the Ku Memphis is #1 for Ku tho the mentioned OU game and others like the final border war are better IMO, just didn't have a NC on the line.
First thought is who ever wrote it originally is a fool. First off Texas didn't have KD in 08, he lost in AFH to KU in his only season at UT. Also KSUCK tied us for the title in 13 not 12 and we beat them 3 times that year. The big 12 has been round robin since dropping to 10 teams. I would roast this guy with ease.

Happy holidays to everyone. I was wrapping millions of presents during the game, so i wasnt on. I thought we came out good and JJ really looked great in the first half. But we dont look good when we arent hitting shots. We had to of missed 15 bunnies, which will hurt here as the comp steps up. Nice to see LL get after the glass. I'm still worried about our lack of post scoring and FTs, those two things need to improve for us to go anywhere in march.
