I’m still not real pleased with the play calling but it has been better this half so I’ll give Grimes a little bit of a break

Why didn’t run it? It looks a like a catch too me, their defense looks gassed to me this delay helps them more than us.

I’m listening on the way back from my son’s game and David Lawrence has called out the playing calling non stop. It is holding us back big time again today. Just another Saturday with the worst offensive coordinator in the nation.

@wissox me too, big win for Illinois in Lincoln tonight so that makes me feel a little better. Ugh if only we didn’t give away games.

As I said earlier in the week I believe this to be a bowl elimination game. I don’t see either of these teams getting to .500 after falling to 1-3. It will be interesting to see how we come out and if JD can return to form. The defense has kept us in games so far but that’s a lot of pressure on them at this point. WV will try to control the line of scrimmage and run the ball down our throats.

I predict another 100 yard rushing game from Neal. I’ll take WV 35 to 13, I think the defense gets gassed from being on the field too much. JD continues to struggle staring down receivers and throws 2 picks, one of which is returned for 6. I’d be happy to be wrong but I haven’t seen anything from this team that leaves me to believe they are capable of beating an FBS team let alone a conference opponent on the road.

@AsadZ I’m frustrated that we have ran the option twice this season, gained 20 yards each time to not run it more

@benshawks08 right, at this point I have zero belief in Grimes play calling and play book in general. As I posted above on this thread. The special teams scored more than the offense for his last team thru 6 games a year ago. If I feel that way, how do the players? If they don’t trust or believe in Grimes it’s gonna be a long season. There is just too much talent on that side of the ball for us not go average above 35 PPG.

People may start pulling funding seeing the product that is being put on the field this season.

There definitely has to be both accountability and praise from a coach. Most good coaches are very intense and get on players til they get it perfect. YouTube Nick Sabans Alabama practices that are taped, if they are off by 6 inches on play, he is in their face telling that ain’t the right way. Great players love the accountability and hard work. Now as @FarmerJayhawk said you have to be able to do both that and show the guys or gals you care at the same time.

@approxinfinity the quote was wrong and a little misleading. But pending on the delivery context I may have. I hate to break this to people but most male athletes are full testosterone and very masculine. If anyone one here has been around professional athletes they would confirm this. Scuffles and fights happen fairly often behind closed doors. Bill Self has gotten in to several physical altercations with players over the years. I did get to watch some of his press conference and did appreciate him admitting to needing to call better plays.

hopping in the portal for the offense is a win at this point. It would’ve been super hard to hear that being a senior that was told you haven’t hit rock bottom yet with what they have gone thru. I honestly would’ve took a swing at him.

To add to the original point of this post I just came across a nice Jeff Grimes stat from last season. Baylor special teams scored 54 points in their first 6 games while the offense was only able to muster 42 points. Why did we hire this dude? One good season at BYU in a cupcake conference.

@rockchalkjayhawk Hunt knows KC is a well oiled machine at this point I’m sure he was calling as soon as the news broke. He was let go because he was dishonest with coach Reid about what happened.

@wissox I was told that JD has the worst passer rating in college football in attempts more than 15 yards down field. The ESPN Wichita guys pretty much spent the whole segment laughing at Jeff Grimes and JD. I have to agree with them also bringing up how if KU can’t win this season returning all the talent they did, how in the hell will they win next season?

@FarmerJayhawk right that’s been my biggest issue is you have to change something. “Doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity” - Albert Einstein. Word on the street is LL is headed to Gainesville and packing it in.

I think next week is a bowl elimination game. WVU had an easy schedule last season and people were pretty high on them to give Penn State a game and beat Pitt. Neither of which happened and they sit at 1-2 with us. I don’t have the numbers but I bet the odds of making a bowl after a 1-3 start are very slim. Maybe JD just needs to go back to Morgantown, where he claimed a new era of KU football had begun after a win in 2022.

@AsadZ ya, definitely have some issues to clear up but I wouldn’t want to be playing lights out in September. LT as you said is a huge issue at the moment, the linebackers continue to be less than impressive and turnovers have all been a problem.

@AsadZ no question but that’s the mark of a good team. Finding ways to win when they weren’t necessarily the best on that day. Really has been a staple the last 5 years.

@AsadZ yes people that have invested in this team like myself for decades thinking we have turned a corner. It’s an even worse feeling in the morning. I’m fine when we get beat by a better team and it’s clear they have better players than us. That has not been the case the last two weeks. We should’ve won by a minimum of 2 scores. To me it goes back to poor coaching not putting players in the right spots to succeed. Baylor fans had a field day on Grimes last night on X. They said we told y’all he was a total mess. LL has to take over the offense or coach Z.

@wissox the original 4th down that they got by 2 inches was a joke. He was stuffed for 6 seconds and then went forward. If the play wasn’t dead it was a fumble because as soon as he got it, we stripped him. The officials were almost as bad as us. The PI call was wrong, if the ball was uncatchable, by rule it can only be holding. If you watched the OSU vs Arkansas game, they picked up 2 flags in the exact same situation. It that was truly a penalty you could just under throw every play. I also rewatched JDs scramble, he got the first down or was with in a few inches he sure as hell was no where near 2 yards short. We lost this on our own but these guys make 6 figures a year and should have some accountability IMO.

@wissox ya I have zero idea why didn’t snap it as soon as he was obviously faking. It goes back to Grimes and the offense just being out of sorts often. Man I feel bad for Neal he likely hurt his draft stock on a 1-11 team when most places had him as 4th or 5th rounder last season.

I just randomly thought of a Mark Mangino press conference after we were destroyed by KSU 64-0. He was saying there was zero excuses for a D1 quarterback to play that way. That they were done making excuses. They weren’t letting anyone take their pride and Dignity anymore. Maybe LL needs to take that approach.

I’ve watched us get spanked many times in memorial stadium but this honestly is one of the worst feelings I’ve ever had as a KU football fan. One of the easiest schedules in FBS returning loads of talent. I’m not sure I can convince myself to want anything to do with Kansas football anymore. With the hype around this team less than 8 wins sets us back several years and cripples all the momentum. You may as well fire everyone and start fresh with the new stadium.
